Desperate Housewives - Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman might be leaving
Nov 21, 2010
Cancelled ShowsUpdate: 22nd November Teri has now denied this here.
Thanks to Samuel for the heads up.
Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher is to quit her lead role in the show, leaving the future of the series in jeopardy.
The 45-year-old actress, who has played ditsy mother Susan Mayer for seven years, has told colleagues at ABC that the next season will be her last.
Bosses at the U.S. network are now prepared for a double exit with co-star Felicity Huffman following Hatcher out of the show.
Teri Hatcher has played Susan Meyer on Desperate Housewives for seven years but she had told colleagues at ABC that the next season will be her last.
‘Teri has given in her notice and is making active preparations to move on,’ says a TV insider.
‘She has another production deal in the pipeline and she is in the early stages of developing a sitcom that she wants to start work on immediately after she finishes Desperate Housewives – she wants a new show in time for the mid-January pilot season.’
But while bosses are keen to keep the hit show running for at least two more seasons, insiders say the drama, set on the fictional suburban street Wisteria Lane, won’t work without Hatcher, meaning that the next season will be the last.
The show’s creator, Marc Cherry, signed a deal with ABC Studios last October which gave the show a stay of execution for two years providing that its leading cast members, including Hatcher, Eva Longoria Parker and Felicity Huffman, remained happily onboard. But all three will be out of contract after the next season.
‘ABC hasn’t announced its schedule yet because the future of the series is up in the air,’ adds the source.
‘Some of the crew are disappointed in Teri, they feel like she is abandoning the show that revived her career.
‘Desperate Housewives can’t really continue without Teri or Felicity because they need the original stars to pull in the ratings.
'Teri has been inspired by the success of people like Courteney Cox, who walked away from Friends and bagged her own prime-time show, Cougar Town.
‘She says she had an amazing run on the show but feels it is time to move on to a project that she has more control over.’
A spokesperson for ABC said: ‘We are working on the next season at the moment
and we haven’t got anything to say about the one after.’

Daily Mail ain't a reliable source. They've posted too much crap for DH in the past that never happened. I'd say we wait untill there's something more official. But I highly doubt that either of them want to leave DH.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this is BS but I'd actually LIKE to see the show end after next season... It's still good but beginning to go downhill and I'd rather it go out on a high note rather than dragging it into the ground... ;
ReplyDeleteyeah I agree that this could be all spec, but if its true I also think its a good thing if we only have one more season after this. Eight season for is way too long any show, but Desperate Housewives has done a remarkable job at keeping things fresh and maintaing quality. I still enjoy the show very much and while some seasons I wasn't big on, like 2, parts of 5, and the end of 6, this season has been excellent so far. I'd kind of think this could be the last season but if they think one more can be done, i think they've earned the right to do it. In general I think no show should go past 6 seasons, and that only if its a strong drama show. Comedies get stale usually after season 3 or 4 (The Office).
ReplyDeleteNext season mean season 8?
ReplyDeleteThat's weird, but next season propably mean current season. According to wikipedia "There is no confirmation whether the show's main characters — played by Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria Parker — will continue for those two years, only being committed through the 2010–11 season, the show's seventh and current season."
ReplyDeleteLiving in the UK I can tell you know, the daily mail is as accurate as harry potter books, literally its rubbish.
ReplyDeleteAs everyone else has said take the Daily Mail's reporting with a pinch of salt. I wouldn't assume anything unless a rep fro Felicity, Teri or ABC makes an announcement.
ReplyDeleteWhat the others said, I mean this is coming from the group of papers that suggested that Eddie Murphy and Megan Fox would play Catwoman and The Riddler in the new Batman film. The same group of papers that have us being told that every single character in Dr Who will die. The Daily Mail specifically suggests almost everything gives you cancer, including air. Seriously, I understand needing to post the "spoilers" up. But really you should take no note of it because if something is true from it, its purely coincidental
ReplyDeleteTeri is not leaving Desperate Housewives. she has confirmed it via Facebook.
ReplyDeleteYou check your info on Wikipedia? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteFAIL.
