I still really like this show but "Castle" is slowly losing the little touches that make the show unique in favor of procedural staples and cliches.
ReplyDeleteI miss the neat aspects of the show introduced in season one that have been dropped like Castle using his shady contacts from his book research - mobsters, jewel thieves, forensic pathologists, etc. The "two worlds" episodes from the show are gone too when his famous author career intersected with his life at the precinct.
At the beginning of the series, Rick Castle was a guy who used his unique perspective, his superior investigative talents, and his resources not usually available to law enforcement to be an invaluable partner to Kate Beckett that she wouldn't get from another detective.
Now, Castle has been watered down to a wise-cracking author with an active imagination and some occasionally helpful insight.
Plus, now we get the "bar." The staple of countless procedurals where the victorious team goes to celebrate after taking a bad guy off the street and to commiserate when they don't.
Actually, I'm just the opposite. S1 was good but now, I literally love #castle! They are all clicking so perfectly, adding to the case, Castle isn't just a Marty-Sue who knows everything and knows how to do everything, which I was afraid this show could become.
ReplyDeleteI love the show even now, but after reading what you said, I think yeah, they can bring those aspects into the stories a little more.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that would of been the case if they continued to integrate those aspects of Castle's life into the show, but what I do know is that they sacrificed those unique ideas for bland procedure. It's a shame.
