WHY WATCH “BROTHERS & SISTERS”Are you one of those people who are sick and tired of switching on the TV and find only reality TV shows with people yelling at each other with no certain reason, or are you tired of switching it off and be left with nothing? Well, that’s the first step towards a better use of television and so towards shows like “Brothers & Sisters”.
“Brothers & Sisters” is the perfect example of smart and clever TV, where you can find several themes that you can relate yourself, or someone else to. The one-hour show that’s gonna stick you to your television screen, because you feel involved somehow in the Walker family mess! “Brothers & Sisters” opens and stirs up to dialogue, pushes people’s buttons and provokes all of those taboos that there may be in the society, in the family or between friends to just come out with an explosion that can only lead to a Walker-style fight ending with understanding. The drama shows how you can relate to people who are a world different than you are, how can you respect someone else even though they’re not like you and to appreciate all of the differences between people recognizing in them a surplus value. And the greatest thing is that you can deal with such serious matters so lightly, and having fun! In fact, this show is not boring and flat like, for example, going to the church. Its ability to mix important themes with funny and hilarious storylines and gags it’s one of the most fascinating things you can get from this TV show! Sometimes you find yourself laughing with tears on your face, other times you just feel breathless.
Not less important, you can get to see in only one show actors like Oscar-winner Sally Field, famous Ally McBeal’s player Calista Flockhart, Ron Rifkin from Alias and Rachel Griffiths from Six Feet Under. And also you can get to know some great, young and hot actors like Matthew Rhys, Luke MacFarlane, Dave Annable and Gilles Marini.
Why watch “Brothers & Sisters” and why now? Well, because like it’s already been said it opens up your mind in more way than one, which is useful in this kind of world so progressive but still so close, then because its fifth season just kicked in, and it’s a complete reinvention of the show with one-year-time-jump, so you can easily sit and watch for the very first time without feeling completely lost in the desert! You won’t get disappointed, all the family is waiting for you at the dinner table, are you in? We are!

First of all I said "in the society" but also added "in the family or between friends".
ReplyDeleteThen, we have gay characters, some struggling to go through parenting and gone through issues like same-sex marriage.. Life of old people that isn't explored at all on tv.. It exlored themes like immigration, politics, health (cancer, HIV, loss of memory, heart attack), war, addictions, discrimination, adoption of a baby.. Is that enough?
".. and provokes all of those taboos that there may be in the society.."
ReplyDeleteCan you give me some examples?
i bailed on b&s in season 3 the show got way too repetitive and boring
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
ReplyDeleteIt's a pleasure and it's a honor after I've been visiting this site since forever! haha..
I certainly will..
ReplyDeleteJust stay tuned! ;)
Congrats on your first article and welcome to the site :)
ReplyDeleteI;m a B&S addict. Love the show.
ReplyDeleteHope you write my articles on it as it's not a show many people write about.
Would love something like your top 5 Episodes or best scenes etc
Thanks very cool :)
ReplyDeleteYou don't know how much I do appreciate your comments! It's my very first article here and I'm so happy you liked it so much!.. I'll surely give you plenty of good (I hope) articlem like this :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
Great article ...and I couldn't agree more. This year Brothers & Sisters has come back better than ever. I hope ABC starts promoting it because it really is the best its been in years. The balance between humor and angst is just right, and they continue to tackle social issues in a way that doesn't feel preachy or didactic ... just heartfelt. All too often I find myself laughing, then tearing up each episode. Please ... give us LOTS more articles like this telling us what is GOOD about tv!
ReplyDeleteGreat article and I love Brothers & Sisters, especially this season. It has definitely turned over a new leaf with the year jump. This week should be a really good episode 5.05. Keep the articles coming, I'll be reading them.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this article. I'm a fan of the show since day one!
ReplyDeleteI would say that Season 1 was absolutely stunning, it was a whole new, refreshing TV option back in 2006. Though the show has had its flaws, I can't imagine my Sunday nights without it.
Like everyone else has said, I hope more article like this to come! Congratulatios on being retweeted by Gilles Marini (I got the link from his Twitter feed).
Of course I will.. I'll try to make one every week, or even more if I can find enough time.. Keep taking a look and thank you!! :)
ReplyDeletePS: Spread the word!!
Gilles Marini shared this article on his Facebook and Twitter profile!! So sweet.. And I'm so greatful and honored!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been a long-time B&S fan. It has the ability to be both funny and heartbreaking in the same scene. The chemistry between Calista Flockhart and Sally Field is amazing and if I was slightly deluded about reality, I would think they were really mother and daughter.
ReplyDeleteMy only complaint about this season is the whole Holly Amnesia storyline. I find it dull, weird, and just unrelatable. I think there was one scene where I felt sorry for her but most of the time it's just her getting herself in a panic. Bleh.
Sad to see Rebecca go. I was liking where she and Justin were heading but alas, it wasn't to be. I'm already missing Robert too... him and Kitty had a great back-and-forth, and loved his friendship with Kevin.
All in all, a great show. Well worth your time.
What a shame! But I do respect your choice :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! ..Even though the show has had its flaws, it's still my absolute favorite one!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I just wanted to clarify it so I could make a better judgment.
ReplyDelete(Btw, not decided, mainly due to the amount of shows I already watch.)
I did too. Then got back into it in the end of season 4. I don't regret it :DDDDD
ReplyDeletegosh so true. Season 1 was but on taking about taboos
