Ahahhahahaha what show are you even watching this show hasnt been about Sam since season 1 and even then it was about both brothers, it hasn't been about Sam since year 1 unless they're making him evil to make Dean more sympathetic, that's a joke.
I agree they're losing a third of their fanbase if they keep ignoring Sam. Uh. Nothing excites me any more this season and I love this show and don't want to have to quit it.
The story of Sam and Dean is essentially told through Dean's eyes which is why the viewer is likely to be more sympathetic to his plight than to Sam's. It's one sided but like many have pointed out it mostly works. Especially this season where Sam is the mystery, what happened to him, what's going on with him will slowly be revealed throughout the season as to not give the game away. Sam's story is more entwined with the seasons mythology.
I see it as Dean being the MAIN CHARACTER-we see more of him, his feelings, his reactions to everything going on, where as Sam is the MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTER, he is essentially the shows biggest plot device, the one that does or has things happen to him to which Dean reacts to. Dean is the constant, the character barely changes and is consistently written. Sam like I said is essentially the shows most important plot device, the character is changed from season to season to fit with what he is needed to be in order for the mythology/brothers story to progress.
A few spoilers-
-Jared gave a recent interview (which I'll see if I can find and post) talking about how the hell thing (how Sam got out) hasn't come up in anything they had filmed so far-they were about to start filming episode 10 (This I imagine will be the one to watch for the big reveal on what happened to Sam in the cage if it hasnt already been revealed up to this point). He did however tell us that in episode 12 we will see what happened in the year Sam and Dean spent apart. How Sam spent the year avoiding Dean while keeping an eye on him, we will also be finding out how he hooked up with the Campbell's but that would be the lesser focus of the episode.
-Crowley will appear in episode 8-'All Dogs Go To Heaven'
-We will be seeing naked Jared/Sam again this season and before Christmas-there will be an upcoming Sam hook-up and this time Sam is not paying for it. (I have a hunch it may be in episode 6 'You Cant Handle The Truth' with the journalist in the episode played by Serinda Swan-don't quote me on that!)
Sam did say that, but only after months of trying to get Dean to talk, confronting him about Uriel saying he was lying, etc. And, Dean is coming from the perspective that when he finally did come clean, he felt a little better. He knows it will help Sam to share some things. At the time, there was no way Dean could explain to Sam what happened to him, because Sam had no reference for how bad it was -- like Dean said "There aren't words." But Dean has the experience, he's the only one on earth that could possibly understand and he wants to connect with his brother -- even if it in a shared misery. So it may seem like Dean is pushing, but he's trying to help -- and get to the bottom of things -- the only way he knows how.
I don't feel that's right though. I don't think it's cool of Dean to just start demanding the truth of all these personal things of Sam's. Sam said he didn't want to talk about Hell and Dean should respect that and not try to force it out of him. While Dean may be able to pull all of these truths out of Sam, it's still not right. Sam straight up said to Dean in Season 4 "You're not talking about Hell and I'm not pushing." And he didn't. So Dean should respect that with Sam as much as Sam respected that with Dean. Just saying.
I think alot of episodes focus more on dean because he looking at the sam/samuel situation like we are, not knowing what the hell is going on! but you know there is still the whole series to get to focus on sam... but i really love dean so i don't mind :)
They are both the lead characters, although it is mainly from Dean's perspective. One of the reasons for this is because he is normally reacting to something about Sam. In season 1, they are both looking for the yellow-eyed demon, but in season 2 Dean has to try and save Sam. Season 3 was about Dean going to hell, but season 4 was about Sam and his belief in rubya nd drinking demon blood which dean had to try and stop.
I don't think the episodes would work so well if they were about Sam. Sam becoming a vampire would not be as good as Dean as Sam is acting cold and alomost cruel at the moment anyway and as for th truth episode, the ony truth Dean could tell Sam would be that he is angry about him no letting him know he was alive for a year, but Sam can tell Dean a lot of truth about his time in hell
As for family matters, Sam trusts Grandpa, so how could he suddenly mistrust them
I feel that as the season goes on and we learn more about Sam then more episodes will be about him, but most episodes they have th same amount of scren time anyway, it's just hte synopsis that makes it appear as if it's more about one thant the other.
I didn't say it was right of Dean to get Sam to talk about hell, just that I understand why it is dean who is cursed by the goddess to make people tellt he truth as he has got more truths to hear than Sam. He maynot ask Sam about hell, he may just ask him about grandpa and the cousins, either way there is more to find out from sam than Dean,. We know what he has been doing, but not what sam has.
I don't think they are ignoring Sam. Even though the synopsis mention Dean and not Sam, I feel Sam is the main character so far this season as he is the mystery at the heart of the season. What happened to him in hell and who brought him back. It's just that we ahve to see it from Dean's point of view as he is as much in the dark as we are so we can find out with him what is up.
I think we are going to find out more about "the family" and Samuel's role and Sam's role in it. I don't doubt for a second that Samuel cannot be trusted, but maybe more of the truth about Sam will come out, too. This could be a real eye-opener in learning more about what really has happened during the past year. Looking forward to finding out more as weeks progress.
yeah you're right but Sam is the always central character on this show. The kid with the demon blood or the most important part of the big plan. dean was always at the background and always have been a big brother who is trying to save his little brother. Producers already said that this season we will see Dean's changing. I think maybe that's why dean is the one who gets in the trouble in every episode. And beside, I think its gonna change when we started to learn about Sam's mysterious back. That's the top secret right now and it's like they're waiting for explode the bomb :D
You know I love Dean as well has the next person but Dean again?. He gets bitten by a Vampire , he then gets hit by the truth and now he gets suspicious . I havent seen one synopisis refering to Sam . In fact there doesnt seem to be a Sam centric episode at all coming up and if I was new viewer I would think Dean was the only lead character on this show.
Thank you for putting it so clearly. As a fan of the show rather than of Sam or Dean it doesn't really matter to me whether one brother or the other is the focus. To be honest, I usually get too caught up in the story itself. Is someone out there really keeping a record of whether the stories are Dean focussed or Sam focussed? Let's just be grateful we even HAVE a 6th season. Oh and thanks for the extra spoilers.
I wouldn't say Sam was the main character so far this season-we've clearly had more Dean, his life, his views and his feelings-however I would say that Sam is definitely has the more important storyline (he has a real connection with the arcs/mythology of the season) and I would also say that Sam is the more interesting character this season. There is real a mystery and intrigue to him-what happened to him in the cage? how did he get out? is he in on what the Campbell's are up to? can he be trusted? why is he so different? There are major questions surrounding Sam that need to be answered.
Absolutely right! There would be no drama if it was Dean having to tell the truth. What is he going to say, "I lived with a woman for a year, helped raise her kid, took a job in construction, and had a few beers with a pretty cool neighbor." We already know all of that. The fact that Dean gets to hit with the truth stick means that it will be a Sam-centric episode. Everything revealed will be about Sam, his experiences, and his feelings so how can this be a Dean-centric episode?
That discounts their history together. Dean has always taken care of Sam. It was his job to make sure that Sam was okay. As the older brother, he has always been in Sam's business. More importantly though, Sam has changed a lot and Dean has not seen him for a year. If someone you love shows up after 1 year with a completely different personality, you better believe you're going to ask questions. When Dean came back, he attempted to act normally and his changes were quieter (for lack of a better word). Since Sam is so blatantly different, it is harder to ignore.
I wouldn't say that Supernatural is focused through Dean's POV until maybe the end of season 4. In season 1 and 2, we saw things more from Sam's point-of-view, especially when it came to his feelings about everything. In the whole history of the series, I would say that things have been pretty balanced. Regardless though, the show is clearly about 2 brothers and they have never lost focus of that. The show does not work without both of them.
becuz dean always have to fix sams problems *rofl* hes like "angels are watching you!" Like sera (or Kripke idk) said :" This show was never about demons or ghost , its about sam and dean"
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
