-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS’ overnight Tuesday winning streak continued thanks to its winning combination of NCIS (#1: 11.9 rating/18 share), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (#2: 10.2/15) and older-skewing The Good Wife (#1: 8.3/13). Comparably, the Eye net bested second-place ABC by a hefty 40 percent in the overnights. But Fox, the home of Glee, could reign supreme among adults 18-49. Expect a demographic horse race between CBS and Fox.
In week three news, ABC’s No Ordinary Family remained third at 8 p.m., but it dipped to a 5.3/ 8 in the overnights. Regardless, this was an improvement of 43 percent from year-ago occupant Shark Tank (3.7/ 6 on Oct. 13, 2009). Take a look at the three-week overnight track for No Ordinary Family:
No Ordinary Family (ABC)
9/28/10: 7.4/11
10/05/10: 5.9/ 9
10/12/10: 5.3/ 8
Next on ABC was the live Dancing with the Stars Results Show, which won the 9 p.m. hour with an 11.2/17 at 9 p.m. So long, The Situation. But lead-out crime solver Detroit 1-8-7 dipped to a series-low 5.3/ 9 at 10 p.m., which put retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing with the Stars (11.5/17) at just 46 percent. One year earlier, former failed occupant The Forgotten averaged a 4.8/ 8 on Oct. 13, 2009. Here is the four-week overnight track:
Detroit 1-8-7 (ABC) – Tues. 10 p.m.
9/21/10: 7.1/12
9/28/10: 6.1/10
10/05/10: 5.7/10
10/12/10: 5.3/ 9
Fox’s Tuesday line-up started out strong and ended on a whimper, as usual, with its combination of red-hot Glee (#2: 8.0/12) and series-low performances for sitcoms Raising Hope (#4: 3.8/ 6) and Running Wilde (#4: 2.4/ 4). Although Fox did grant Raising Hope a full season order, retention out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of Glee (8.1/12) was just 47 percent. Running Wilde, meanwhile, is just waiting for the axe to officially swing. Here are the four-week tracks:
Raising Hope (Fox) – Tues. 9 p.m.
9/21/10: 4.9/ 7
9/28/10: 4.8/ 7
10/05/10: 4.1/ 6
10/12/10: 3.8/ 6
Running Wilde (Fox) – Tues. 9:30 p.m.
9/21/10: 3.9/ 6
9/28/10: 3.3/ 5
10/05/10: 2.6/ 4
10/12/10: 2.4/ 4
Over at NBC, inspirational The Biggest Loser remains on the downside this season, with a 4.6/ 7 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. off by 10 percent from the 5.1/ 8 on Oct. 13, 2009. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
The Biggest Loser (NBC):
8:00 p.m.: 4.5/ 7 (#4)
8:30 p.m.: 4.6/ 7 (#4)
9:00 p.m.: 4.8/ 7 (#3)
9:30 p.m.: 4.8/ 7 (#3)
Capping off the evening for NBC was fading Parenthood at a distant third-place 3.4/ 6 at 10 p.m. One year earlier, failed The Jay Leno Show was stronger at a 4.0/ 7.
The CW populated the evening with its low-rated combination of serialized dramas One Tree Hill (#5: 1.5/ 2) and Life Unexpected (#5: 1.2/ 2).

- No Ordinary Family really needs to stop falling or it's a goner. ABC needs a winner in their hour-long drama department and I'd like to see it not get canceled.
ReplyDelete- LUX is a goner for sure. Not even the crossover improved its ratings.
Hey, CW! In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best idea to make the show LUX was competing with all last season its lead-in this season. Fans of both shows spent most of last season learning not to like (and rooting against) the competing program. It makes no sense that OTH fans would stick around to watch LUX.
- 1 8 7 is D.O.A.
- Running Wilde is running on fumes.
I wouldn't call The Good Wife a ratings powerhouse.
ReplyDeleteNCIS, NCIS: LA, and TGW are a powerhouse of ratings for CBS.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very weak time slot and The Good Wife is only pulling 18-49 demo numbers in the low to mid 2 range and the show skews toward an older audience. CBS canceled Without A Trace when it was getting nearly identical numbers. If the show is still the same demographically after another season or two, CBS will cancel The Good Wife too.
ReplyDeleteIt was the third higest rated show overall, and the highest rated show @ 10 p.m. (almost 2x the ratings as 2nd place)
