I personally like all the flashbacks, it's always good to make the narrative complicated so you have to think and tie things together. The first two episodes were better than this one, but still this one was really good too.
Now finally the plotlines tie together, with both the government AND Vicky's group looking for Sean. The cliffhanger was really good though I too saw it coming when they showed the solder in a "temporary morgue", something had to happen. It's obvious by now that these "non-humans" have some really cool technology. If the non-humans did it, I can't see their reasons for faking their deaths...that left me thinking.
One thing about this episode that I found a little annoying was the constant unrealism...as I say with Lost, the Smoke Monster is NOT unrealistic, because that's what the rules of Lost say, a smoke monster is possible. So, in this case with The Event, aliens exist, that's not unrealistic, but a car crashing into another car in a 1km straight highway is kinda weird. Those MiB shooting an entire FBI office expecting any neighbour to hear anything too. And all the infiltration that Sean did into the FBI office plus other thing I might have forgotten.
Overall, I still like this show...it has mystery, interesting narrative techniques, subtle sci-fi, etc. I'll keep on watching...hope it doesn't get canceled by mid-season. But apparently the dream of the creator of making 6 seasons is gone. They're lucky if they're able to complete this season.
I totally agree with you. The one flashback we got this episode from that inmate was totally useless. And I don't mind if they scramble order in which events take place, but are they going to start every episode like this? Because that's beginning to get annoying.
"does this mean that michael buchanan is alive too?" It would be pretty weird if only he didn't survive.
"and im guessing the FBI agent isnt gonna survive much longer." I hope she survives, I'm really started to like her.
yeah, and people automatically assume that we cant follow the jumps. if you've watched lost since day one, like i did, you'd have your fair share of flashbacks. and mind you, there were no time stamps on the flashbacks, forwards and sideways, except for one episode.
here in The Event, im more interested to see what's going on NOW. flashbacks are Ok every once in a while but the trick with flashbacks is that the scene must pay off, that there has to be twist, or new information that would add a different layer of meaning to the context of what is happening in the NOW.
im excited for the next epi. seems like there's a bio threat.
does this mean that michael buchanan is alive too?

lol, they've pretty much pitched the show as Lost meets 24. And yeah, this episode was better for staying in the one tie frame for most of the episode - not many shows can pull the non-linear timeframe off.
First Episode: Looks good, might stick around for a bit and see where it goes. (Interesting pilot, and to at least me, fresh faces) Second Episode: *Sigh*, 'spose they can't all be good. Give it a few more episodes (Acting/Writing was a bit poor) Third Episode: Wow. That was pretty cool, defs staying with this for a bit. (Acting/Writing picked up, story arc starting to emerge, and even an episode reference with the similar endings to the first two episodes). btw, I stand in awe of the guys above me that saw the ending of this episode coming from a mile away. I only saw it coming from when I saw the army guy walking up and down the morgue. I knew something would have to go down, and I assumed one person would come back to life. When they all got up, you could have knocked me down if a feather. Maybe I'm just slow, but I consider myself decent at predicting episodes and I didn't see it coming.
Yeah, the ending was a bit obvious from the last scene of the 2nd episode, but I actually found this episode better than the 2nd...The whole scene in the car where he's telling them about the airplane was so awfully-done I was rollin' my eyes. There were 2-3 times that happened in this episode, but only at little things. I already like this show better than Heroes, but it does have that same sort of vibe coming off of it.
Didn't really like this episode. Out of 10, the pilot was a solid 8, and ep 2 was a 10 for me. This one was just weird for a lot of reasons.
1. I know it is bound to happen but the re-recorded dialogue just sounds terrible and the performance is flat.
2. This show has a Heroes feel to it because all of its annoying guest stars. People we don't even know but suffer the whole episode with. The only necessary guest stars were Sean's FBI lady & William, the Inostrankan. Seriously, for the past two weeks, we've seen nothing of Michael, VP Jarvis, Christina... come on
3. The writing just felt poor. Nick Wauters & Evan Katz did awesome on the first two episodes. Now it's written by two random guys I've never heard of (yes I know Katz & Wauters can't/won't write every ep)
I just sound too picky but the episode didn't work for me. On Twitter I'm so surprised by how many people are saying "OmG zombiez????!?!?!111" The passengers clearly were never dead. They appeared that way because of Thomas, who told Simon, "Now that we have them, we might as well use them".
The critics were preparing us for some huge earth-shattering cliffhanger... saw it coming a mile away.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Yep, I'm really enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping they get a full order of episodes for the season.
Well hopefully it'll do better or maybe it will just stay the same. Do you like the show?
ReplyDeleteThanks, that's very kind :)
ReplyDeleteCompared to the previous 2 weeks, yep :(

ReplyDeletehoping they'd maintain the adrenalin for every episode. if lost was more of a drama, the event is starting to feel more like 24.
ReplyDeletei just hope, like this episode, they'd keep the flashbacks to a minimum.
too much flashbacks seem to call attention to itself and not the story
and just a question, was that DB Sweeney? working with vicki?
Yep, did not see that ending either until late as well. Agree with
ReplyDeletepretty much what you said there.

Not to mention how shooting up an FBI office like that is SO impossible and unlikely ha!
ReplyDeleteSame here. I wasn't sure until now. It was good.

Ok, the 3rd episode has got me staying for a while.
