New Competition Ideas

21 Oct 2010

Hey guys,

Whilst we're setting up the preparations for the final 3 days of the Character Competition, this is a chance for people to pitch a few ideas, however radical, different or cool they are.
I have been thinking about a weekly debate, or discussion, where one or two shows discuss certain issues, ideas, cool moments.
An Example could be that several differing Supernatural fans make their claim for why Sam/Dean is better,
or that 'The Event' fans discuss what they think the event it, giving cases for/against. Then, at the end of the week, there is a vote on which side has the best case.

I need some other ideas, as this one is early development, but ideas that get people involved would be cool.

Thanks for any ideas you think of, and of course, if you want to do the idea yourself with me, dark, or on your own, it's always cool to have a good idea on what the people here fancy taking part in.

Keep in Touch
Adam

  1. This most disliked one would be a much bigger fight than the best character, imo. Fun!

  2. What you mean like a competition (fav episode) or sending flowers to Vancouver? ;D

  3. 'Best or Fav episode of the week' sounds awesome and very interesting for discussions.

Everybody watches more than 1 show a week, so the arguments should be very interesting.

  4. Thats asking for a nuclear war. Dean vs Sam "Who's Better Battle"? Trust me, SpoilerTV, you don't want to go there. You'll end up having to ban a lot of people, or at least deleting a lot of comments.

  5. Oh and one more thing then I promise I'll shut up. As a self confessed batshit crazy stalker (see earlier comments to this post) fan of Supernatural, I'm begging you please please please do not put Sam and Dean against each other in any kind of 'who's the better' anything. That's just asking for trouble, and there are plenty of other SPN-related topics that could be covered with much less carnage. IMO. Okay shutting up now.

  6. Separating shows into genres seems like a good idea - otherwise it's comparing apples and oranges. I mean pitting a comedy against a drama would be stupid if you're looking for the best one liner, for example.
And yeah there have been times in the Best Show and Best Character comps when I've felt a bit uncomfortable with the hostility from some commenters (commentators? whatever). Even when not directed specifically at me it takes the fun out of it. Good natured discussion is what makes SpoilerTV so awesome, so can we focus on that and keep the competition aspect low key somehow?

  7. Could be Best comedy show, sci-fi show, police show, etc...or best new show, best Female characters/actress or Best Male characters/actors, best adaptation show from a book or comic, movie or whatever adaptation

    ReplyDelete
  8. I like the Actors idea...the other one would just be suitable for a poll not a competition....

  9. - An best Actor Competition rather than a Character Comp (which basicly is the same as the best show competition).
    - Which shows would you like to get an crossover? (Like: The Mentalist & Dexter (^_^)

We should do something for smallville considering its in its 10th and final season!

  11. I like the idea of which show we would like to see ressurected or best guest star performance.

  12. I like the suggestion that people could simply talk about their favourite character without the sometimes hostile environment of a competition. Maybe we could have a combination of competitions and weekly character profiles. Perhaps it could be connected so that the week after a competition of Best Villain we do character profiles of our preferences and simply have a discussion. The week after the competition of best one-liner could be a discussion of which shows people think have achieved their own tone, or something like that.

I also like the idea of separating it into genres. That way the cycle will be shorter and if you feel that your favourite didn't make it into the competition this time, odds are it wont take that long before they get another chance.

  13. I would go for the couple competition, or the best one-liner of the week, or the most annoying character, or the best death in a TV show or the best sitcom (hell yeah, bring on the 90s!! :P)

  14. Best villain. Most disliked character on TV. Get fans of particular shows to choose their favorite/most disliked episode of their show.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Really? And I thought I was the only batshit crazy stalker fan. What a relief.
btw the curtains are new. So glad you like them.

  16. Maybe a competition of like genre TV shows? For instance... the best medical drama, the best cop show or detective show, the best SciFi ( I LOATHE that SciFI Channel changed their name to SyFY -UGH!) show, or best special FX in a show, best Vampire series, or the best sitcom. It could be broken up into presenttly airing shows or past series, or broken up into subgenre like best non-detective detective show (ie Mentalist vs Castle) or best show in any given city (best NYC Cop show).

Of course maybe it could be a character architype competition like the best comedic sidekick *cough*cough* Barney Stinson*cough* or best TV series boss, straightman (in the comedic sense not sexual).

Any competition on this site will be fun regardless since it will draw people in and despite the fact I will deny it offline, it is fun to refresh a page every 60 seconds to see if anyone has commented on your comments or check poll results!

  17. I was only kidding.

    We're all batshit crazy stalkers.

    Nice curtains btw.

  18. Not exactly a competition but more of a debate/conversation idea:

We take the first season of a TV show and give our own ideas where the show could have/should have gone from there. Kind of a "what if" scenario and each week, the show could be different. I'm sure there's a lot of creative people on here with a lot of ideas.

The ideas with the most likes, goes into a poll, and the winner of the poll wins ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

    Or something more realistic.

  19. I was meaning one in particular - it should have read 'craziest fan' - no offence meant. I'll fix it now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Six Feet Under!!111

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not all Summer Glau fans are crazy.

Now please excuse me while I put on my dress made of cow teeth.

    ReplyDelete
  22. How about "Best ending to a TV Show".

    ReplyDelete
  23. Or maybe just in light of the fact that the Character Competition was/is going on, perhaps you could host a general post where people discuss who their favorite television character is and why. That way, even if said favorite character did not make it to the final round, people get to describe and defend why they love the character without the charged (and often very hostile) atmosphere that surrounds the Character Competition.

It could be thought of more as a way of celebrating all the favorite characters out there, instead of the rampant character/fandom bashing that was found in the Competition.

  24. I liked the idea that jillyanne put forward, to present different shows best one liners. It would be great to hear fun lines from shows that I don't watch. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maybe a poll for which character has the craziest fan - oh wait that would be River Tam/Summer Glau. Sorry. Sick joke. But you have to laugh or he's won right?
Best action scene for the week/month? Most unexpected ending for an episode? Most original casting in a guest role? Funniest one liner? Most uncomfortable moment? Worst performance of the week? Shows we'd most like to see resurrected? Shows that should never have been aired?Hmmm...... I've had one glass of wine and I've got typing diarrhoea - I'll stop now ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think we should go for "best couple". Not necessarily NOW, right after the best character competition, but it's an idea anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Maybe which television show had the best overall episode each week?
Or maybe which show had the best Month/ few months, season, etc.

Maybe a competition between special effects, or acting, or something like that?
IDK I am really just throwing whatever comes to mind atm.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Completely agree with you jillyanne. Don't do a Sam and Dean competition Adam, it has been done before and it always ends in a catastrophe. Fans who want to discuss which brother is better and why, already do it enough on message boards, facebook, twitter... spoilerTV is like a safe heaven because there is no Sam-Dean wank (Adam, writing Sam/Dean might not be such a good idea, don't you remember 'The monster at the end of the book' lol), please don't take that away.
But a favorite demon/monster/ competition would be awesome! I still want a SPN-Lost rematch. How about Alastair vs. Smokey? ;D

    ReplyDelete
  29. Definitely NOT Dean vs. Sam. That's not a fun competition (all the super crazies come out and you can't make a comment no matter how tame without someone taking offense) AND it's been done everywhere else. Besides, then you only get Supernatural fans to participate and that lessens the conversation. I love the idea of the best one-liner of the week. It's the best choice because all shows can participate and you don't have to have as much background information to enjoy it. I also love the idea of a villain contest. Even mini-competitions within certain genres could be fun. Then characters or shows that have no chance in the big contests could get some love.

  30. Dean would win anywayz!!!11

  31. How about we send acting lessons to Kristen Kreuk instead?

    ReplyDelete
  32. But it would so help the world.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like the most unexpected ending of an episode/season. It would bring on lots of interesting challenges

    ReplyDelete
  34. That would be a great present but too late for Smallville. ;D

    ReplyDelete
  35. Btw - nothing wrong with 'Supernatural specific' - bring it on!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah I know it wasn't definite - but the mere thought of it is terrifying in the extreme!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I wasn't planning on definetely doing one. It was just to get across the sort've thing I meant. Sam vs. Dean is a bit Supernatural specific perhaps :P

    ReplyDelete
  38. Now you behave!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Favourite Villian of All Time.

Best Pilot Episode Of All Time.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What worries me about just a general discussion board is that it might just become a counter-productive one where people simply post "Dean forever!!!" and "SHELDON COOPER'S MY HERO!" and... you get my point. Not that that (haha) kind of fandom isn't good, there just doesn't seem to be much point.

I have to agree though, there were moments in the competition where i just felt like i was being attacked *think Dean vs Mulder round*

    ReplyDelete
  41. Best one liner sounds greaat!! And I have to say it again even though its been said. No Sam VS. Dean competitions. That could cause the world to erupt (Well, the Supernatural world anyway :P)

Ooh and how about most evil villain? Most evil villain that acts like a friggin saint? (I'm thinking something like Lucifer here, but I'm not sure how many shows actually have that kind of character) Best supporting character? Best character death? Cutest kid?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wow... this is from waaaaaay back, but the character that comes to mind is T-Bag from Prison Break - i hated his guts but he was seriously a MAJOR plot driver.
