ABC has now officially shutdown The Gates and Scoundrels. The cast and crew have been officially notified by the network that there will be no season 2.

Some goodbye messages from "The Gates" cast from twitter :
Colton Haynes : "THE GATES is officially cancelled. Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride! THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!"
Frank Grillo : Don't shoot the messenger....The Gates is officially cancelled. I new my source was right. SpoilerTV

    Seems strange too because although ratings obviously weren't as good as they could have been, the critical reception was very good after the fist couple of episodes. With the right promotion (ditching the Desperate Housewives-esque ads) it really could have been a sustainable show for the network.

    Soon after the first season finished airing there were rumors that the
    show would not be returning for a second season. These rumors were
    further fueled by cast member Grillo's tweets suggesting that his
    contract wasn't going to be renewed. In October 2010 several of the
    show's stars confirmed that the show had indeed been cancelled and
    that there would be no second season
