Fringe - Lloyd Reveals Nimoy NOT Returning to Fringe *Updated*

28 Oct 2010

Update: 28th October It seems that this is not true according to the Producers.

Sad news indeed :(

Oh Christopher Lloyd, you tease.

Lloyd — an upcoming guest star on FRINGE — told the audience at a STAR TREK convention last weekend, that Leonard Nimoy would be appearing alongside him in the 10th episode of FRINGE’s current season.

Um, say what now?

When we last saw Nimoy’s William Bell, he had sacrificed himself in order for Walter, Peter and Fauxlivia to cross back over to our universe. Not to mention that Nimoy announced earlier this year that he is now retired from acting.

So will Nimoy really be reprising his role as Bell?

Sadly, you can file this under “too good to be true.”
According to FRINGE show runners/executive producers J.H. Wyman and Jeff Pinkner, “as much fun as that would be, it is sadly untrue.”
Bummer.

Lloyd then mentioned that he will be soon filming an episode of Fringe. Lloyd’s casting (in the tenth episode of the current season) as a musical icon and hero of Walter Bishop on Fringe was reported last week, and included in the latest TrekMovie Sci-Fi TV update. However, Lloyd then made some news, revealing that Leonard Nimoy would be joining him in the same episode of Fringe, reprising his role as William Bell. The audience, to say the least, was very enthusiastic about that information and it was exciting news generated at the convention.

Leonard Nimoy last appeared in May, in the the season two finale of Fringe, and at the time he stated it would be his last role, not only on Fringe, but as an actor. However, Nimoy has sometimes noted that he has learned to "never say never", so it appears (if his health allows) that he will be back on Fringe again.

  1. If this is true, it's probably a safe bet that Lloyd wasn't supposed to share that with the public.

  3. Good luck to "Lloyd" on ever getting on another Abrams/Orci/Kurtzman show/movie EVER AGAIN!!!

Otherwise... AWESOME NEWS!!! I always thought in the back of my mind that he'd be back on. The storytelling capability with him involved is even more epic than usual. And he brings such a matter-of-fact-ness to Bell. Its easy to see that Bell had to deal with the consequences of Walter's dealings and they had a MAJOR impact on him.

Since he's supposedly dead, he'll likely be featured in a flashback of some sort - so just awesome, awesome news.

  4. This is fantastic news.

And Nimoy was right when he said that this would be his "last role" — even if he reprises it. ;)

  7. Nimoy better not come back as some flashback or fantasy sequence! I want William Bell to be alive!

  8. Was just discussing the other day with my brother how we really really want Nimoy to come back on the show. I didn't have the heart to tell him about Nimoy's retirement...and now I'm glad I didn't!! ;)

  15. This is not surprising. AT. ALL.

As I said before, if Nimoy is supposed to return it's most likely meant to be a surprise. So, if he is coming back, Fringe producers are going to deny, deny, deny. If he's not actually returning, the situation is the same. Either way, they're not going to confirm the rumor.
