ReplyDeleteIf the character up against Ben were Scully, my vote may have gone for her. But the fact that it's Mulder makes it a very tough decision to make... and I think I'm going for Ben. He's just amazing, as much as I absolutely LOVE Mulder.

Of course, since I can no longer score ANY points, my reign will be very short lived, but for right now... yay for me ! If the game was just about predicting the first 3 rounds, I would have won !

ReplyDeleteYou sound like a very smart person and is cool that you was objective when you voted for Mulder and not for your character's favorite show, as a fan for a show with a fierce fan base as Supernatural, I'm agree with you, some fans make us looks like a mindless cult (and this is not true at all), but I'm honest, I see a lot of show's and normally try to be objective in my answers, but maybe you take my comment in bad way because I hate that people don't respect when a show is a great show, no matter if you're fan from the other show and I wite a bit angry in that moment jaja
Here is my problem with he/she comment, I'm big fan of Supernatural like I said and if I was in the "no-brain list fans", probably here I could start a discussion about what bad character Mulder is (angry because he beat Dean), but no, because Mulder is Mulder, my point is that it's ok that your favorite character was Ben and voted for him because this is a competition and everybody have the right to choose, but I don't think that Ben lose because Lost ends, that's not a good argument when both show's ends and also both show's get to many millions of viewers, your reply was a better argument to describe why Mulder win :)

I know I just posted a reply about the low turnout below but I do want to reply to your statement. In all honesty, and this is slightly contradictory to my point below, but I'm sure more Lost fans have shown up, but LOST fans are very educated, and I think even they know that Ben doesn't deserve to beat Fox Mulder. In all honesty, I'm a huge LOST fan but I voted Fox Mulder because... well he's Fox Mulder. The mindless LOST fans aren't voting since the show ended, but the actually-have-a-brain LOST fans have stuck around, but use their brains and realize Fox deserves to win. The LOST community is no longer some mindless cult like other shows (no offense to those shows, as LOST used to be one as well). It is a fan base that should no longer be feared.

That's because you never watch X-Files, show's like Lost or characters like Ben would not be the same without Mulder, Scully and X-Files...I know that too many people are going to debate me in this (probably the new generations fans), but for me there are just a few characters who can be at the same level of Mulder (and Ben is not one of them), the results are clear, I'm glad to see that people still have respect to this great show.

I should have said, that I have watched some LOST, the two first eps and some scattered ones here and there, so I know just a little bit about how this Ben operates. However that doesn't make me go and say stuff about him.
ReplyDeleteSo let's just agree to disagree here, because Mulder will always be my guy and this Ben will then obviously always be yours. If you want to know just who Mulder is in real, then you should watch X-Files and get your assumptions about Mulder straightened out. But I wont force you of course.
But fact is: The X-Files, Mulder and Scully, and that whole show started a whole new revolution/generation and concepts of show - which is how LOST arrived on the scene years later after some modification changes in it all. That's that. "The Truth Is Out There!" still for me.

ReplyDeleteI don't know who the heck made that Mulder video, but it's far from who he is. That blood spattered picture he holds of a boy and girl, is him as 12 and his sister Samantha at 8 - who was abducted when he was babysitting. Which of course has an impact on him since he was blamed for not looking after properly. The there's his whole childhood which turns out to be a joke, as the father he grew up with, maybe isn't his real father - but that his real father is maybe his nemesis instead. Someone who keeps laying hindrances in the way for both Mulder and Scully, when she gets attached to The X-Files.Mulder is plenty complex, just in other ways and definitely not violent - though only when it is absolutely necessary. As when he really wants answers, whether someone is threatening Scully or wont impart valuable info on a case.

Maybe Lost have a lot of fans, but looks that they're not loyal fans... Lost ends few months ago, X-Files years ago...The fans of Lost should be more active than X-Files, that's the diference of a great show

I agree completely with willyoubemyconstant on this one. To be a Lost fan for six seasons, you got to know the characters of Lost very well. The majority of Lost fans I know are intelligent to know a superior character over another. In this case, I think the poll is completely accurate. Mulder is one of the best characters in television history and while Ben is great, he isn't as high on the list as Fox Mulder.
ReplyDeleteI think a contributing factor to it is that darkufo (a huge lost site) used to put the actual poles on the site but because there is a lost character cup going on now, the poles showing up have stopped and instead its just a link to the poll. I think lost fans may just be missing the small link compared to a large poll, or are just too lazy to click a link to vote. As well, it use to post updates throughout the day (like Sun is currently losing to Blair Waldorf. Vote now!) but has stopped, so I don't think alot of LOST fans feel the urrgency to come here and vote cause they don't know the characters are getting their butts kicked (first Ben today and then Jack tomorrow when he faces that 'The Vampire Diaries' girl)

ReplyDeleteIf LOST was going on now then Mulder would have no chance at winning this poll. There were 30,000 to 40,000 LOST fans online during the seasons. This defeat for Ben only means that LOST fans have "Moved On" to other things. In no way, is Mulder a better character than Ben. I liked the actor in X-files but imo he is doing a better job in Californication than he did in X-files. Regradless of the Result,

Mulder obviously has a huge amount of fans, so there must be something to it, but it just doesn't sound like he compares to Ben.
ReplyDeleteBen is the most complex and entertaining character I can remember. He's selfish, controlling, manipulative, power-hungry, violent, evil at times, and also desperate for a family. His mom died during childbirth, so his father brought him to a hippie community on an island. His dad blamed him for the mom's death so he became an alcoholic, and verbally and physically abused Ben. Ben defected to another group on the island, killed the entire hippie community and personally killed his dad with poisonous gas. He then kidnapped a child and raised her as his own. He overthrew the leader of the group he joined and held that position for years manipulating his follows. When the overthrown leader's merchenaries came for him, Ben literally watched his daughter executed because he refused to surrender. He left the island and orchestrated systematic assasinations of the overthrown leader's associates. Halfway through the series, he also talked one of the show's beloved characters out of hanging himself, only to strangle him minutes later. He then returned to the island and killed the man who had ruled the island for 2,000 years. That's not even everything. I can't see any character being better or more entertaining than that.
He's sexy, he's passionate, he's witty... And sorry, LOST, I love you, but The X Files (and Mulder) were my first loves as a teenager in the 90's so, it has to be spooky Mulder.
ReplyDeleteI never watched the X-Files and base my Mulder knowledge on the video. According to the tribute, it seems all Mulder has ever done is grimmace and look perplexed. It's 4 minutes of him looking sad. How does that even compare to the multi-layered, complex and extremely violent Ben?

I just watched s02ep5 "Killed or Be Killed" and i'm glad there is twists on every episodes. Characters are killed and resurrected minutes later.
