2010 Character Competition - Liz Lemon vs. Olivia Dunham - Round 3.6 - Day 22

Oct 6, 2010

And so Clark defeats Lois, and he now holds the key to Smallville's challenge, can he make it past the Quarter finals, that remains to be seen, but Clark quite comfortably saw his way through round 3, Lois could not match the man of steel. So far the Quarter Finals are fairly even in terms of show representation, only LOST so far has more than 1 character in the final 8 (it has two) which is pleasing :)
Today sees Liz Lemon, a surprisingly strong performer in the first two round facing against the queen of Fringe, Olivia Dunham, who especially over recent weeks (and episodes) has been stellar :P Can Liz overcome another tough opponent? Only time will tell. Better get voting folks...

Also keep upto date with the competition and/or ask questions by following me on twitter. I'll also post some of my reviews, writing updates & other bits & bobs, more often than not TV and Film based. I'm at: http://twitter.com/AdDHarris

Don't forget to keep following your bracket if you entered the competition at http://www.dawgsled.com/darkufo/welcome.asp

All that's left to do folks, is vote....

  1. Well I don't watch 30 Rock so my vote goes to Olivia :)

  2. I need to upload the next few onto my iPod. Who'd have thought it would be New York Metro that got me into Supernatural.

Hadn't mentioned yet, but its a lot more dark than I had expected!

    ReplyDelete
  3. I haven't seen the shows myself and it must be the case for a lot of spoilertv readers.
Only big shows like TVD, LOST, Smallville or cult shows like Firefly or The X-Files are still in the competiton.

Less interest means less votes that's all. But that doesn't mean that Liz or Olivia are bad characters of course, just less popular.

  4. wtf ...An hour ago Olivia had way more votes than liz.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Liz!!!! I love her! She is so hopeless Lol! Well, I guess not anymore 8D (Side Note: Never seen Fringe)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow. Today's poll isn't exactly breaking any voting records. :p

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yeah it is dark. People who haven't seen it tend to write it off - thinking it's just about two pretty boys (which they are ;) ) riding around in a car. It IS genuinely scary and it does visit some very dark subject matter. But that, combined with the humor and the music helps make it so awesome.
I'd like more people to give it a try - I think it's fantastic that you are watching it, and even more so that you are liking it.

  8. Oh definitely. Dark and sometimes quite shocking with the blood/guts moments. But of equal value, is the occasional hilarious moments of it as well. Some of the episodes you'll just sit there and wonder what on earth are they smoking. Jillyanne pretty much read my mind, her post is perfect. Just stick around more and you'll see what we're talking about. ...And keep talking about.

  9. I think it is Home and then Asylum, Scarecrow, and Faith - the fab trifecta. Then Adam all you have to do is get through Route 666 and the cryfest in the middle of Shadow and you're in the home stretch. Gentle warning - do not let anyone spoil you on Devil's Trap. That's an episode better to go into spoiler-free.

BTW I dropped from the second page to the 6th in the brackets. And I was so positive when I made it.

  10. Just one more reason to support public transportation. :-)

I like that Supernatural is not afraid to go there, wherever there is. Kill the romantic love triangle before it gets started - Check (best move EVER). Send a main character to hell - Check. Add angels and talk about God and gods - Check. Turn Santa into one of the goriest episodes ever - Check. Behead Paris Hilton - Check. Mock your closest competitors but mock yourself more - Check. Add in Snow White, Teddy Bear doctors, vicious Ghandi, and death by taco and falling piano. Can't top that!

  11. Yeah, the brotherly relationship was a tiny bit grating in the first season. It wasn't until....welllll Devil's trap and the second season premiere that had me completely hooked.

    ReplyDelete
  12. LOL I love that you're realizing that. There's some episodes people I know couldn't sit all the way through...like Fresh Blood (OMFG DID SAMMY JUST....???), My Bloody Valentine (ARE THEY...EATING EACH OTHER!?), A Very Supernatural Christmas(HOLY FUDGE!!!!!.. lol), and many others are just gag-reflex-inducing. The storyline and dreary atmosphere of the photography adds to the darkness of it as well. Oh and Nightmare is probably the first episode that really amps up the visual violence, even if for just a moment...

    ReplyDelete
  13. I say it's a con...*cough* a con...ventional lack of Supernatural.

If the final votes btwn the final 2 characters ends up having less votes than a Supernatural poll, I'm just ignoring the results lol

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hey, Adam...A little off topic, but who do I contact about writing weekly reviews for this site? I'm just wondering lol

    ReplyDelete
  15. One of the best things about Supernatural is that it does poke fun at itself (yes, and everyone else) But first, and most mercilessly at itself - yet another element that lifts the show from average to spectacular.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's Supernatural all right - gag one minute, LMAO the next - where else can you get that every week?

    ReplyDelete
  17. My Bloody Valentine was the worst holiday episode by far. It was beyond gory into deeply disturbing. I about turned off my TV and I love SPN. Squick to maximum on that one. However, A Very Supernatural Christmas was truly gory and I loved it. I think it was seeing Mrs. Abbott from Everwood channeling Donna Reed if Donna Reed was homicidal. Hilarious turn-of-character. Plus the lines. Dean's "You fudgin' touch me again, I'll fudgin' kill you." is one of my favorite lines. Classic SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Um...why is Olivia suddenly losing so badly?!! O_O

    ReplyDelete
  19. Dark himself. He will send you all the info. Just in case he misses this, send me an email at adam.d.harris1989@googlemail.com and I'll let him know for you. :)

    Hope this helps!

  20. Voted Olivia. Now that my bracket has been completely massacred with the elimination of Supernatural, I can voted for my favourite, rather than strategically. xD

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ranting (not especially yours Wilson) about the lack of SPN is boring.

First people said that the voting numbers will decline after the loss of SPN characters :
This is not the case so far. The average number of votes after the Fox Mulder vs. Dean Winchester battle is 7 922. If someone has the time to calculate the average number before, it would certainly be very lower.

Then people said the characters who brought SPN ones down will not have the same numbers in their next matches :
This is wrong for Malcolm Reynolds.
This is wrong for Elena Gilbert.
    Let's wait for Fox Mulder.

It takes two strong characters to break a record :
The Seeley Booth vs. Elena Gilbert poll had a total numbers of votes of 9 820 which is respectable but not near the record because Booth had only 868 votes.

It may sounds weird that Booth went in Sweet Sixteen with a small 868 votes when Castiel lost with 3 335 votes in first round but it's just the randomness of the bracket game.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Another interesting remarks (IMnotsoHO) :
In the Sam Winchester vs. Elena Gilbert poll, I got the feeling that Sam didn't get all the support he should have from the SPN fans... looked like some Dean fans didn't even bother to support him...

I got the same feeling for Dean (in the Fox Mulder vs. Dean Winchester poll, he only got 6.253 votes-50 less than Sam and definitely much lesser than the votes he got in the first two rounds!)

When SPN won the Best TV Show SPN fans they were all united. Now that it was Dean and Sam separated, some fans decided to support only the brother they favour.
I find it honest at least but don't tell me that everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds in the SPN world. SPN characters have lost to characters who had more votes than them, so did Booth or John Lock. Ranting about it is useless.

  23. Wilson, just drop me an email at darkufo@spoilertv.com

    ReplyDelete
  24. Noticed and comment edited (changed "your ranting" with "ranting")
I know you Wilson and you know me too (maybe under an hispanic first name).

The truth is your comment just gave me the opportunity to deliver my message.
This poll is going to end with probably more votes than the Jack Shephard vs. Kate Austen poll (remember we are on a LOST territory).

Anyone here to contest my numbers?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm sorry, have I stepped on your dog or something? It was a joke.
    Just take it easy, alright?
I do agree though that it seems some (probably crazy) SPN fans probably voted against the other brother in spite of each other. I don't belong to that group lol

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks guys :) I'll be sure to do so. May be a few days just so I can get this research paper in the works first. lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm sorry but I just ADORE My Bloody Valentine. Such a rough episode, but Cas and his burgers was just perfect. "These...make me very happy." XD
And Sam ripping through some demons, the guy in the fryer (OMGGGGG) and Dean actually turning to GOD to ask for help. I'd say it was a GREAT episode.

Still, The Christmas episode is perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I Love Tina Fey and always will, but I can't love Liz Lemon like I can Olivia Dunham. Love me some Olive.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love them both, but my vote goes to Liz only because I feel bad for her since Olivia is gonna win no matter what.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, should've skipped it. :P
Asylum I think is next, and it's a lot better.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I haven't seen either show so I can't vote.
Also, how long has this poll been up? Because there doesn't seem to be many votes like there were for the others during the same time period.

    ReplyDelete
  32. While I agree with your choices, I have to say that comparing what Tina Fey and what Anna Torv do every week is apples and oranges. I don't think Tina can do what Anna does and vice versa. They are both very talented but their talents are very different. Know what I mean?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Fringe is excellent and so is Olivia Dunham, but Liz Lemon is epic! Sorry Liv, going up against Lemon is a dealbreaker.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sorry Liz, but Olivia is my bb. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Even though I stoped watching it Fringe is awesome and Olivia is a big reason for it :D so yeah I voted for her.
I'm kind of lost with this new season and the end of the last one... hope poeple get back to watching it so i'll catch up this summer and have a new season 4 :DDD

    ReplyDelete
  36. :DDD is route 666 from season 1. We need some mistakes on the road to succes... (that sounds way better in french btw)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Liz Lemon (30 Rock)
    extraordinary!
    He has talent, beauty sympathy!

PS i love fringe. :) Anna, but not as good as an actress Tina

    ReplyDelete
  38. Who are these 50 people who DIDN'T vote for Olivia? :P I admit I enjoy Liz Lemon on 30 Rock, but this is OLIVIA FRICKIN DUNHAM, people!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Olivia

30 Rock is one of the worst sitcoms I've seen.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I voted for Olivia. While I can barely put up with Anna Torv's acting, the character itself is interesting. And again: drama characters always have more depth than sitcom ones. That's just how it is.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Awesome. I guessed Clark! Still on the first page of the competition in 12th place :)

Can't help but think that Elena Gilbert is going to screw over my bracket once and for all though :P

    ReplyDelete
  42. Bugs and Route 666 should be completely removed from all season box sets. I still have a bad taste in my mouth. But you know, I can't think of any other episodes spanning the entire 5 seasons plus, that were nearly as bad as those two. Maybe the one with the ghost ship. Yeah that one was pretty bad as well.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Same here :)

Oh, and I've updated the Brackets.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My vote goes for Olivia. I enjoy her character very much on Fringe.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I voted for Olivia. Love Fringe to death, and she is brilliant in it :)

    p.s.
Oh yeah, Bugs did suck :P

    ps.ps.
I'm disappointed I didn't get round to my Fringe Review for Episode 2. I'll merge it with Episode 3 this week.
House Review is coming later today, once I've got round to watching it :P

    ReplyDelete
  46. Changing Channels may be my favorite funny episode unless it's Bad Day at Black Rock. They were both hilarious, guest starred characters I adore, and had some fabulous one-liners "I lost my shoe." SPN at it's humorous best.

    ReplyDelete
  47. My Bloody Valentine was one of my absolute favourites of the season. It had humor, horror, gore, emotional stuff and just some Winchester goodness :)

Lol, my brother thinks I'm crazy because I've watched the Christmas episode 10+ times. I just can't get tired of it :P Little Winchesters are too adorable for words. I hope they do another one like that for season 6.

Another one of my favourites from season 5 is Changing Channels. I don't think I've ever laughed that hard :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. My vote goes to Olivia, never watched 30 Rock and I love Fringe, so no question here for me ! The last rounds of the character competition didn`t interested me at all ;) so I´m happy to see Olivia winning ;P

    ReplyDelete
  49. Tarring and feathering is too good for him/her. They need to go in the cage with Lucifer and Michael. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Bugs was the only episode of Supernatural ever that I couldn't bear to watch the whole thing. I just have a really terrible fear of bugs :S I didn't think it was that bad though, from the bits I saw which was the first half and the last 5 minutes or so.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hahahaaa... I think you just sorta spoiled it for him :P

    ReplyDelete
  52. I have a thing about spiders so I hid behind my pillow whenever they came on. Let's just say that even though Bugs is my least favorite episode I haven't seen all of it. Insta-Morning was the most ludicrous thing on Supernatural and they've hit bizarre a few times. I'm glad you are still excited about the next episodes after Bugs. You're in for some of the best episodes of season 1 next.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I record SPN while I watch it live and I cut out the commercials as I go. I was just about to pause the recording when the genital herpes thing came on. I was thinking that the CW must be going under if they were at late night TV ads when Sam came on. I about fell off the bed I was laughing so hard. Absolutely classic!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yeah Bugs was not SPN's shining moment!

    ReplyDelete
  55. My favorite part of Changing Channels was when I was still thinking it was a commercial and that girl said "I've got genital herpes." I don't know if I've ever laughed so hard. Nothing else beat that for me, and i'm not sure why. I was like "Why is the CW logo still there?...O.M.G." XD
"I lost my shoe" had the same effect on me. SO funny.

    ReplyDelete
  56. You...know me?
    O.o
    I'm scared. Please elaborate.
And we may have been on Lost territory, but SPN did beat out Lost on this very site just a couple months ago for "BEST SHOW EVER." I'd say there's a pretty huge implication in that act.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Just uploaded the next 6 after bugs, which I'm majorly excited about :)

    I'll keep you posted.

Two things annoyed me about Bugs. One: The woman had a spider, on her head! and she wafted it off and then watched more TV.

Then, I think the bugs attacked at like around Midnight, then 5 minutes later the day was breaking! haha

    ReplyDelete
  58. If I had to guess, I would say that Jonathan is the new reincarnation of Manuel and that's how you know him.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I can't watch it live where I live so I download it online. I had a couple of downloaded episodes on my iPod for a flight to England and I was watching Changing Channels in the airport before departure when I started laughing like I was crazy. I definitely got a few stares for that :P Especially at the herpy ad, where Sam's face was just too funny for words. And I loved Dean's voiceover and the cop show thing.

I can't watch CSI anymore without thinking of that scene where Sam and Dean started taking off and putting on their sunglasses at night :)
