2010 Character Competition - Dexter Morgan vs. Malcolm Reynolds - Round 3.8 - Day 24

10 Oct 2010

And so the Round of 16 is almost at an end, the final 8 is almost complete, we are one short, and that one will be decided within the next 24 hours. Will Firefly's Malcolm Reynolds join River Tam in the Quarter Final's to keep it level with LOST as the show with the most characters remaining, or will Dexter Morgan worm his way into the final spot, and leave River to battle it out on her own.
It's tough to call, Firefly has been strong so far, a real threat to current favourites Fox Mulder & Elena Gilbert.
It's that time folks, Voting Time.

Also keep upto date with the competition and/or ask questions by following me on twitter. I'll also post some of my reviews, writing updates & other bits & bobs, more often than not TV and Film based. I'm at: http://twitter.com/AdDHarris

Don't forget to keep following your bracket if you entered the competition at http://www.dawgsled.com/darkufo/welcome.asp

All that's left to do folks, is vote....

  1. I'm not sure which fan base is the most rabid.
Is it Firefly (or Nathan Fillion) fan base or is it Summer Glau's fan base that makes them win?

Of course their votes are the same for the most part and we will know the answer in the Malcolm Reynolds vs River Tam poll.
I already have the answer but i don't want to spoil it ;)

  2. Yes, go Malcolm.
    And watch out!
Because you will be pitted against River Tam in next round and i'm afraid she will kick your a**.

    ReplyDelete
  3. You meant Malcolm Reynolds will win.
    Remember it's a character contest.

    ReplyDelete
  4. lol the X-Files fanbase is eternal, 50 years from now and they'll be still as active, just as the Star Wars fans...mmm well kinda :D

    ReplyDelete
  5. People didn't think X-Files' fanbase was still as active but Mulder managed to beat Dean Winchester, who was predicted to go straight to the finals.

    Stranger things have happened.

(Though, I agree Mal will probably win).

  6. Yet another hard decision caused by the fact I've only just watched Firefly xD I think I'm gunna have to go Dexter though.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Okay, I've drifted since SPN fell out, but damn, another hard choice!!! Why do you force me to make these kinds of decisions?!

Mal or Dexter ... Mal or Dexter ... I love them both, damnit.

But I guess, it's got to be Mal. I've loved him ... longer?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Wasbi! I remember when I was a kid, me and others would randomly say that ha! Good choice on your pick, : )

    ReplyDelete
  9. I so agree with what you said about Season 4 with giving you the shakes. Though, Michael C. Hall did and does very well as Dexter, that season goes to John Lithgo. Creeeeeepy!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Very tough choice. Went with Dexter

    ReplyDelete
  11. phew, season 1 is barely a hint of how epic Dexter is. Season 2 is like season 1 x100000% better. Season 3 was very good if a little tiny bit less awesome than the perfect season 2, and season 4 is probably the only season of television that had me physically shaking multiple times and going out of my mind.

Oh, guess who I voted for?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hmmmmm....Not Dexter, I think ; )

    ReplyDelete
  13. Agreed. John Lithgo did very well as Trinitty. Awesome acting. He is (was) probably my all time character

    ReplyDelete
  14. Never seen either show. But I like Nathan Fillion so I voted for his character :).

    ReplyDelete
  15. You should get that shaking seen to. Next you'll be foaming at the mouth.

But yes, Dexter just keeps improving. And the casting of John Lithgow as Trinity was amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm sensing another Firefly win. Dexter is incredible but the fanbase isn't nearly as rabid/active as the Firefly fanbase has been this competition.

    ReplyDelete
  17. How on Earth did you vote for Chuck?

And we're voting for characters, not shows.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I began to see this show (Firefly) because of all the support in this competition but I am a bit disappointed, I was waiting for a better show and it was not like that, did not hook me and I nor identified with any character... so I voted for Chuck, though it is not my favorite show or my type of show, but I prefer it.
But it's clear that Malcom is gonna win...anyway

    ReplyDelete
  19. Go Nathan Fillion! I mean, Malcolm xDDD

    ReplyDelete
  20. Voted Dexter. But of course Firefly will win... :( Nothing against the show, I just haven't seen it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dayum. I love both, and Firefly made a big impact on me with just half a normal season, but ultimately had to choose Dexter. Deliciously dark and all that jazz.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I voted Dexter, watched Season one, and loved it. Intend to catch up one of these days :P

  23. Just wanted to put my two cents in, since all of my guys are now officially out of the running except for Mal (care to guess who I voted for today?) -- I think Hungry Emo is now my favoritist person on this board. Well, him and Dahne. I was just going through the comments and noticed that most of my 'likes' have been to comments that H.E. has posted.

And if you guessed that I voted for Mal after my blatant naming-of-names earlier, you were right. Just cuz I'm bitter about Spike losing doesn't mean I begrudge Firefly and one helluva big damn hero.

I do have to admit, however, that I'm a tad embarrassed at never having seen Dexter. I want to, I just don't have the time. I'll get there one day.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I never said it wasn't a classic or that it was illogical. I said many people didn't think the fanbase was still active enough to beat Dean Winchester.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not to mention it's a hundred times better than the source material. Which is rare.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I disagree with you about any character from Firefly winning.
Remember Malcolm Reynolds is Firefly's lead character and Nathan Fillion has another successfull serie (Castle).
Summer Glau is almost in the same situation : she is Firefly fans favourite and was Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles fans favourite too.

Take Supernatural for example, the serie as a whole had a great support in the Best Show contest but it was different when the actors were competing separately.

  27. Come on...I don't know where's my head right now (is the collage examination for tomorrow I guess) , I edit my comment twice and I repeat the same mistake again in both comments..thanks, I mean Dexter... sorry sorry jajaja....(I think that I save the edit then)

    ReplyDelete
  28. It Seems like to me that its a question of which firefly character will win.

    ReplyDelete
  29. But how did you vote for Chuck when Chuck isn't in this part of the competition?

    ReplyDelete
  30. The X-Files it's a classic, it's logical that it had many fan base, but without to going forward to what will happen tomorrow, I really hope the same support for Mulder that he received against Dean, otherwise I will question on if really were the fans of X-Files who gave him the win

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well I vote for Dexter because I like him more than Malcom, simple.
And it's clear that the show is an important aspect to be considering when you decide to vote, I don't like Firefly because I didn't hook with any character, it's my right

    ReplyDelete
  32. Dexter. Character wise he beats Mal hands down. (imo)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh for sure! That season finale left me numb for like 2 days. I couldn't stop thinking about it for like a week after. guh!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dexter is an amazing show. It's a refreshingly original series and does not hold back.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well... yes and no. It's Malcolm who's going to win, technically, but you could have probably thrown any Firefly character in there and had a similar result. The fan base is just so powerful. I'm just a little sour, I guess, because the competition is no fun when the results are so set it stone like this.

I'm not trying to make anyone mad here. Mostly I'm just upset because Spike lost yesterday :P But I'll definitely be watching Firefly to see what all the rage is about after I finish watching Dexter or Fringe....

    ReplyDelete
  36. funny how much this poll has changed. dexter was winning by like 100 votes when it started this morning!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love both, how can I even try to decide between those two amazing men? Oooh.. myy.. Had to vote for Dexter, because frankly I am still angry about TPTB cancelling Firefly.. Hard to believe the poll is going the way it is, but I will be happy either way.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This really wasn't a contest. my dog is named Malcolm Reynolds.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey guys, I need a good Fox Mulder tribute video for later. Anyone got one?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Don't like Dexter that much so I voted for Malcolm Reynolds.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's cool. We all make mistakes : )

    ReplyDelete
  42. He was doing so well when everyone was sleeping. :(

    ReplyDelete
  43. I vote Yo Saf Bridge.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That is no question to me!
I'll give you a clue : look at my username.

Second clue : take a look at the bracket below from another similar tournament on a well-know site. Cameron from TSCC was beaten only in semifinale and by Edward Cullen (Twilight fanchise).

  45. First people said that the voting numbers will decline after the loss of SPN characters :
This is not the case so far. The average number of votes after the Fox Mulder vs. Dean Winchester battle is 8 021. If someone has the time to calculate the average number before, it would certainly be very lower.

Then people said the characters who brought SPN ones down will not have the same numbers in their next matches :
This was wrong for Malcolm Reynolds vs Erica Evans (7 374 votes for Mal) and same here.
This was wrong for Elena Gilbert vs Seeley Booth (8 952 votes for Elena).
I have no doubt Fox Mulder will get the same level of voting tomorrow.

It takes two strong characters to break a record :
The Seeley Booth vs. Elena Gilbert poll had a total numbers of votes of 9 820 which is respectable but not near the record because Booth had only 868 votes.

It may sounds weird that Booth went in Sweet Sixteen with a small 868 votes when Castiel lost with 3 335 votes in first round but it's just the randomness of the bracket game.

  46. Bahaha. I like this post to my post.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with about the no-competition thing.
I hope the battles will be tougher on the forthcoming rounds.

Can you tell who will win the Malcolm Reynolds vs River Tam poll?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I voted Mal, but in full disclosure, I have only seen a few episodes of Dexter. He and Juliet from LOST were the only 2 characters left in this round that I didn't know much about. I liked Mal from Firefly but I liked Jayne, Kaylee, Wash, and Zoe more. Still Mal gets my vote; who else could get away with lines like, "I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you." I was laughing so hard, I almost fell off my chair.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The better character did not win this but, then again, I didn't expect him to. Que será será.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Watch "Hungry Man", the Thanksgiving episode of Dexter from season four. *shivers*
"I SHOULD'VE F**KING KILLED YOU WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE!"
    O_o

    ReplyDelete
  51. Loved that episode! I was surprised that Aurthur didn't recognize him for what Dexter is in the next episode after that...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Any idea were I can see it for free. I don't want to watch 4 seasons to get to it. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. No doubt, that Dexter Morgan is my favorite...I got an site for Dexter's custom homepage, www.sleeksearch.com ......and enjoy the themes of dexter.....
