It seems that news of Season 2 being green lit before the pilot has even aired are false, I found this over at IGN.


"AMC has contacted IGN, explaining they wanted, "to dispel the rumor that The Walking Dead has been renewed for Season 2, as that is not the case yet."

Alas… All right, zombie fans, keep crossing your fingers!"

    Wasn't it Frank Darabont himself who said it was a done deal? I'd expect him to be trustworthy. Or maybe he was just misquoted. It happens. In any case, I'm definitely tuning in for season 1.

    Don't worry, this doesn't mean there WON'T be a second season, it's just that they can't green light a second season without even premiering the show. If it has good ratings there surely will be a second season....
