Oh, I so hope you are both right jillyanne and Charlene Buchanan. Thanks for reminding me not to be dissapointed from the begin. I just worry to much, cause I really love the way this show was, the story it had, the characters, the adrenaline, the conection the two brothers really had. I hope you are both right and things will get better from episode to episode.
Just opened my EW and Dean's face was staring at me. They used the quote, "What, did you lose the ability to send a freakin' text message?" in their SoundBites section. Hey, any little bit of publicity helps.
OMG - this episode was AWESOME!!! If this 1st ep is any indication of how this season is going to go and the new places the writters will take us, this series will be around for year 9 & 10!!! Absolutely incredible, from the storyline which keeps us guessing, to the acting... loved every minute of it!!!!
Definitely a 'wow' episode. From Sam's car to the little shoutout to Jensen's golf playing and the weirdo twist with Grandpa, very good indeed. Next episode with babysitting Dean is going to be hilarious.
LOVE IT. This episode was an awesome series premier-starter-let-me-bring-you-up-to-speed. (that opening scene was perfect) Absolutely cannot wait for the next episode, creepiness! This new season has this strange, totally freak me out make my skin crawl vibe to it. (but in a good way) Like when Dean saw those neighbors convulsing through the window. /shivers. I like. And I'm looking forward to more.
What I don't like: -Too many extras (hopefully they'll get killed off as weeks go by, lol) -The Lisa factor. She needs to go. Sorry Lisa, "them's the rules"
I thought this season opener was incredible. It was so bad ass and just so good. I will say that yes, I do feel unsteady about the Campbells and I don't trust them and I don't think I trust Grandpa either, but only time will tell. This is just the first episode. Not a lot has been revealed here. I'm also worried to pieces for Sam. He's really messed up. You can tell just by looking at him, by listening to the way he speaks that he's not okay, but I did get vibes of the old Sam there as well. I loved Sam telling Dean that he wants to be with him. It'll be soon though! Just a couple more episodes and they'll be cruisin' in the Impala together again! Anyway, even though I have those unsteady feelings regarding the Campbells and Grandpa, that does not mean in any way, shape or form do I think that the season opener was bad or that this season is going suck either. I have loads of faith and I'm very optimistic. Bring it on, Sera! I can't WAIT until next Friday night!
I'm trying so hard not to read the comments here to avoid spoilers! I live in Europe, so it haven't aired yet.. but does anyone know of a website where I can watch the episode?? I'm desperate! :(
I like Lisa. I'm glad she's staying and I like how she called Dean on his saying sorry. She's a strong woman but not afraid to show how she feels. Plus she's an adult unlike most of Dean's girl toys. What's not to love.
Liked the episode. Confused as to what is happening. Did not like Grandpa Mitch! He's up to something, doesn't have a good reason to be back, brought in people we don't know (are they evil?), and reminds me of John. I hope he turns out evil.
I loved it. LOOOVED it. Obviously, the method to their madness has changed a bit, but there's nothing wrong with that. This was a perfect start to the new season. My heart broke for Dean every second, but I wasn't really mad at Sam or Bobby for keeping things a secret from him. Sam clearly thought he was doing the right thing (which, admittedly, has backfired on him in the past -- hopefully his luck has changed now), and Bobby was just glad that Dean had a semblance of a normal life, for as little time as it will last. I dunno quite how I feel about Grandpa Samuel being back. I kinda want to punch cousin Gwen in the face a little. (She's a woman, so you already know she's ripe for the picking on this show, lol).
I'm a little nervous about Sam, especially since I've seen some of the promos where he has that utterly evil look on his face. I know he's different, he's been in Hell, and not just Hell, but in the cage, yadda yadda yadda, but there's something off about him. Did anyone else notice in the promos (particularly his topless chin-ups part) that his anti-possession tattoo was missing? I'm really hoping I was just distracted by his abs and didn't see it, but hell, it's still making me uneasy.
And I just wanna say now, apparently some people have already been complaining and whining about the direction the show's going in -- what direction? The first episode aired tonight, and NO one knows what's going on yet, so how can you have the gall to complain about it? Sera, Ben, Bob and Eric WILL NOT let us down. They know how much we love the show -- they aren't going to do anything that will alienate us completely. Give it a chance to really get into the season before you moan and groan. Yeesh.
Anyway, loved the show. Missed Misha tonight :( REALLY hoping they bring back Gabe, and can't wait to see more of Bobby and Crowley! With any luck, the showrunners have something awesome planned, and they might bring back Ellen and Jo *hope hope hope*
Fans have the right to complain. They are what keeps a show on the air. I think we are all a little too sensitive, which is a shame because it will stifle conversation. There are some things I didn't like about this episode, but it doesn't mean that I hate the show. Being able to talk about these things actually helps me appreciate the show better and sometimes leads me to insights I didn't get before.
For me, I like the dead to stay dead. No Jo. No Ellen. No John. No Ash. The only exception I would celebrate is Gabriel. I think being an archangel should give you a little leeway. But there have been too many guest appearances by dead people already on Supernatural. It makes the deaths meaningless. I'm particularly glad that YED was just a bad acid trip. If he comes back, it will lessen season 2's impact for me.
Smarmy is the perfect word. Like something pretending to be human and overdoing it.
Edited to add...it was very convenient how he happened to run into Sam after they both came back from the dead at the same time. These waters are very fishy!
I loved the episode! It was totally awesome to see Fred back!! He totally rocks that character! I am a little confused too about Grandpa and the clan but I am sure that is how we are supposed to be! I thought it went by so fast! It seemed like about 40 minutes of show once you take out the commercials! I have to confess I want to see the brothers back together! The show has and always will be about the brothers and I just don't want to see that get lost! I really only have one complaint and that is that it seemed like they cut a significant(IMHO) scene out! I mean one minute Dean is in the throngs of hallucinations with Lisa and Azazel and Ben and then the next minute Sam and Dean are just saying good bye like a couple of regular folk! I would have liked to see Sam rescue his brother! It just seemed like a significant ommision, Of course I can't wait til next week to see where the story goes from here!
Pretty good way to start season 6. Liked Dean's life, and yeah, it looked like he was trying but not really succeeding and he knew it. Loved Lisa calling him an idiot. She's actually a pretty good match for him. Very trusting and understanding, but wanting him to try. (loved the line "the guy who just saved the world shows up on your doorstep, you expect him to have a few issues...") Sam was off, but Dean saw that too, so I'm sure we'll get more info and figure out what his deal is as the season moves on. Don't trust Grampa or the Campbell Soup Kids, but loved Dean's snarky "See, it's almost like I'm a professional." line to put Christian in his place. All in all, good ep, good tone, good intrigue and I'm looking forward to more!
Campbell Soup kids..heehee! I love it. The CSK for short? Hope you don't mind but I am going to start calling them this too. Now we need a good name for Grandpa Mitch because Samuel is too confusing, Grandpa Campbell takes too long to type, and EOD (Evil Old Dude) sounds too much like YED. (Of course, if he ends up being YED than EOD would work well.) Any suggestions?
PS Dean's "almost professional" line was my favorite of the episode too.
So much to love. Loved the Credit Card. Loved the sequences establishing Dean as the family man. Loved Sam and Dean and Bobby together again. Loved that they didn't play Lisa as dumb or unaware. She hooked up with a pro and when he said there was trouble and she needed to leave....she went. I was luke warm on the Campbell family, er...the Cuzes (heh!) (Loved seeing Corin Nemec, and Mitch Pileggi) but...just not enough there yet to form an opinion.
HAHHA! I'm sure all the cousins gets killed quickly but we might have Granpa with us longer. AND I love him but I want Dean and SAM ALONE! or with CASTIEL because he is one of them hehehe.
AWESOME EPISODE. They have definitely set this season up a notch. It's double the creepiness and it was just so damn epic. I admit I had my doubts at first about this season but that episode just cleared it all for me.
I still hate Grandpa Samuel though, and the cousins. I hope they all get killed off soon :) I actually really like Lisa in this season, I hope she and Ben stay around for a while.
The Impala was in the garage under the tarp, we saw it when Lisa caught him in there. And the jacket was put away in that box T_T I nearly cried when I saw it there. That was just as bad as having the Impala covered up.
BTW - showing my woeful ignorance here but can anyone clue me in on the title/artist of the song they played over the opening montage? I thought it was just so appropriate.
You're probably right, but maybe Cas was too busy with the AAA cleanup (love that!) to pay attention to mundane human things like escaping from Lucifer's cage in Hell. If not, and he knew, I'm sure Dean will feel like the guy who didn't get an invitation to the party. Which will make him feel stupid... which will tick him off... which will be pretty fun to see. And then he can get snarky with everyone and I'll be happy!
The good: - Lisa and Ben - They were a lot more three-dimensional characters than I ever would have expected from this show. Lisa/Dean banter seemed...real and ALIVE (The whole "did you just almost shot a yorkie?" line or the "idiot" dialogue). Awesome. - Sam and his change. something is seriously up there. - New misteries. - the uncertainity factor - was the first YED real? What are cambells planing? Can dean trust Sam? - all these things really feel great. - The Ominous Atmosphere - THIS IS WHAT I MISSED from SN ever since that crappy Season 4 started.
CSK works for me! I just didn't get enough from them for them to actually be considered separate characters, ya know? Therefore, the Campbell Soup Kids. HEck, I couldn't even remember their names right away. I can see a power struggle coming between GpaSam, who is an experienced leader, and Dean, who is a natural leader. Should be some fireworks there.
I think it is a fair bet that Cas knew. He is super-mojo angel boy again, so I would expect him to know something as major as Sam getting out of hell. I am hoping that Cas knows a whole lot more about it and can give us some answers. Still, Cas may get a pass on the betrayal if he uses the "Hey! I thought your brother was going to tell you." excuse. After all he is pretty busy putting heaven back to rights after the Angel Apocalypse Adventure. Cleaning up after your brothers trying to kill each other is time-consuming.
I love the episode but I`m almost sure that grandpa is up to no good! When he took that female djinn and he told these "cousins" to leave with her before the boys are back... he`s definitely hiding something! Oh and I can`t wait to see Dean in his leather jacket again ;) And I want the Impala back !!!!!!!
His anti-possesion tattoo is still there. Someone made a printscreen of his workout-ing from the first SPN promo and I saw it there, but delicately hidden behind those abs of his.
I think that season premiere was incredible. I mean, it was creepy and those bittersweet comparisions of Dean's newly acquired "soccer mom" life and his old hunting days just got me to knees. And the thing I was surprised myself was that I like Lisa. I like how she supports Dean and all that, how she understands, so, I hope that she'll stay and, hopefully, she won't die, because that would piss me really, really off. :D
To Sammy. Sam, Sam, Sam... My the most favourite character in the whole TV universe. I've started watching SPN because of him /later that completely changed to watching SPN because of SPN/ and he was the one cute, sweet, nerdy guy who talked about feelings and EXPRESSED feelings and was polite, and I just loved him, not because almost everyone loved Dean and I just thought he needed more love, but I just liked him, you know, as a person, character... But, I mean, what the HELL was that in 6x01? Where did my guy go? I know, Hell changes things, changes people, we saw that with Dean, but this... The whole 42 minutes or so I was desperately trying to find almost a little resemblence with old Sam but I found none. There's just something completely off about him, his confidence, this cold, I'm-not-talking-about-feelings guy... Ugh. He reminds me of Lucifer from "The End". That just completely got me and upset me, lol, almost like it was a real life situation :D S6's going to be definitely an interesting season.
The episode was great. The only thing that didn't fit are the Cambels. I could live without the Grandpa, don't know why he has to be in every single episode. Wasn't the show supposed to be Sam and Dean only?
That's my concern and my hope. I see Grandpa Mitch pulling a John Winchester with all his "do what I say but I won't tell you anything you need to know" junk. I think that is going to tick off Dean to no end, having already had a lifetime of that with his father. Plus, Dean has shown he can walk away so I don't think Grandpa is going to have the sway with Dean as he does over Sam and the CSK. One thing that gets me though - Grandpa has supposedly been dead for what 26 years. How can he be considered the leader of a group of hunters who find Dean, who has been out for 1 year, rusty? Me thinks there is some brainwashing of the CSK here! (BTW I agree that the CSK are going to have to get some personality stat. Right now they are chicken broth without the noodles.)
The problem is that every time Dean and Sam and miscellaneous guest star die, it lessens the tension of the next death. Already when a character dies I think, "oh I wonder when they will be back to guest star." I should be thinking, "How could they have done that!" There is little tension when a character dies on Supernatural now because you know they will come back. Therefore, it is pointless to have these characters die in the first place. I think death should mean something even on genre shows, and unfortunately for SPN, it no longer does. The only person whose death would really bug me is Bobby and that's only because he wouldn't be in it as often as he was last year.
Something seemed fishy about all of them... or it was bad acting, not sure. I saw way too many "knowing glances" throughout the episode. Why the heck were they keeping that Jinn (sp?) Grandpa said put it in the van before the boys get back. What is that all about? And why the heck are Sam and Dean so distant? Sam seems way way way different. Kinda cold.
He did have that classic sympathetic Sammy look when Dean was frantically searching for Lisa and Ben but could not find them. That's about all I saw. For me it's the creepy head nod when Dean was hugging him. It made me think of a creepy villain voice saying, "Aaahhh! I've got him. My plans are coming together and soon I will release all evil." Seriously chilling that head nod.
I liked the Lisa/Dean conversations too. At first I didn't think I would like how Lisa and Ben fit into Dean's life and I didn't want him to be the bad guy for leaving them. So far, it has surpassed all my expectations.
It wasn't just the djinns not being creepy. They were hardly in it. So much for returning to the Monster of the Week.
"The inevitable accident that will befall Sam's car." LOL! I love it and your analysis of the show. It seems we have similar taste. I also like the Grandpa Creepy moniker.
Screw monster of the week--we all know that's just a device to push the storyline forward. MOTW episodes are nice but hardly amount to engaging television. If you want a procedural, go watch CSI.
"The biggest question--Why in the world does the CW think that by watching Supernatural, I would have any interest in watching 90210? Of all their shows, this seems like the worst fit."
I thought the EXACT same thing. "Why is this stupid woman plugging that show HERE?" lol
ooh thank you xxx just read your analysis too. it was great. i loved your military handbook comments about grandpa creepy. He has that whole Jim Jones vibe going and if thats just for one episode. Whats he gonna be like for the rest of the season LOL.
What you said about him trying to drive a wedge between Sam and Dean. I really hope he tries and fails or sam sees through him because we had enough of that with princess evil(i say princess because Lillith is queen evil) and i don't wanna go through that again. That was excruciating to watch. That whole pantomime she's behind you vibe and gritting my teeth at the screen and calling sam a moron is enough for now unless of course he starts being a moron again. Listen to Dean Sammy.
The best thing about this response is that i have the answer to your question about why the CW think you want to watch 90210. The same reason they shoved Nikita down our throats for 2 months, THEY want you to watch it. Here's an idea CW, hire grandpa creepy as an advertisement, he'll soon have us watching all their show, even the s**t ones LOL.
Nothing in this episode surprised me. Maybe I was one of the few people that read the articles and watched the interviews of the cast/crew about what S6 is going to be like. I'm wondering if thats where the disconnect is. If I didn't already know how Sam and Dean were going to be portrayed, I probably would have the same reactions as some other fans... a big WTF?!. lol
Well part of the campaign for the season premiere was "Trust No One." This episode showed that. What you wrote is great and makes a lot of sense. It is well thought out. Considering I have read so many negative comments over the last couple of days it is good to see some positive takes on this. I think the storyline for this season is, The apocalypse failed, now what happens to everyone.
Hi amy xxx read your comment. the thing is, a lot of us did read the articles and the interviews and some of us even know a few spoilers about whats to come in future episodes(i'm a spoiler w**re).
And even after all that it was still a shock to see sam like that because i couldn't connect with him and thats just one episode. thats how bad it was. When sam reunited with dean i felt nothing because sam felt nothing. He reminded me of one of those kids who are destined to become a serial killer killing an animal and then looking up at you with nothing in their eyes. I know it's an exageration but thats how i felt. That totally wrong vibe that creeps you out. I connect with the boys because they connect with each other in a totally natural way. The actors have a natural sibling chemistry that isn't forced in any way. Thats rare for a show. Thats why it is one of my favourite shows because they are totally fictional characters but you feel for them on a different level than any other show. Thats just my opinion. LOL, i sound like a complete nutter don't i. I'm not though xxx
Sorry it's long and preachy. Didn't mean it to be. I ramble in real life and in cyber space. Thanks for reading xxxx
What happened to Sam Winchester? He seems so detached and I can hardly recognize him. I need to get insight in this beautiful head, really! The writers are torturing me! I am fan of BOTH BROTHERS, but in this episode I couldn`t feel their reunion, I couldn`t feel with Sam (...and there was to little shown to feel) and I couldn`t feel with Dean (...and there was to much shown to feel). I couldn`t feel what is the heart of this show. What happened to Sam? The show has tendences to spotlight one brothers emotions, but I was always related to Sam. When I get nothing but sometimes looks (where I can recognize a bit Sam) I am afraid to say that I could fall from the waggon till midseason. The heart of the show is missing and it is somehow connected with Sam and the relationship with his brother, at least for me! I could only feel with Bobby! That was an emotional slugfest at Bobbys. That`s only my impression and it hurts to write this. I MISS SAM!!!!!!
Another note, the J`s are good as almost always, I really adore them, but I want to say, Jared Padalecki did such a fascinating and spectacular job introducing this new Sam, I watch closely in particular the scenes with him and I am stunned. What he did in a very subtile way. Do they know what they have with him? But I miss Sam!
yeh but if u mind sara did write alot of great episode "crossroads blues" "All hell break's loss part 1" " Salvation" "Faith" "Blood-lust" one of the best from season 2 , "Heart" so sad , "time is on my side" season3 , Are You There, God? It's Me, Dean Winchester" ,"When the Levee Breaks" ,"Good God, Y'All!", now this i love its so sad for bobby classic episode "The Curious Case of Dean Winchester" , "Two Minutes to Midnight", . Sorry about all the titles just trying to restore ur faith in her ae . lol. I believe sam is still the devil when he jumped in the caged he was still and why he so cold and there's something dark about him . But we'll see if ma theory is right lol .
I'm not so sure there is a good reason. I can think of a couple of times the writers have used Bobby to back up Sam that didn't make much sense to me. In the fourth season finale, Bobby got pretty irate at Dean because he finally decided not to run after Sam when Sam beat him up and took off with Ruby. Dean had decided he'd had enough of chasing after his brother and if Sam didn't want to be a part of the family it was his decision. Bobby took up for Sam there and I kinda thought Dean had a point -- and then the angels snatched him and it was time for the apocalypse. And in Swan Song Bobby made the comment that "they'd always been hard on Sam." ??? Really? How? I really didn't get that. I think they were trying to make Sam more sympathetic because they'd written him into a corner and had to redeem him somehow. Otherwise having him make this huge sacrifice to save the world didn't really fit in with what he'd done up till then.
So having Bobby side with Sam's plan to hide his resurrection and let Dean go on believing he was in Hell does have precedence, and they may just let it stand. But I still think it's lame. I hope you're right and I'm wrong, tho. Dean needs to start calling people on their mistakes instead of letting them slide. And yes, I hope we get something SOON! I just hope Cas didn't know -- that would be like the last nail in the coffin. Can Dean trust anyone?
I wonder if there could be more to this. It does seem strange that Bobby would go along with Sam in leaving Dean out of the loop, but maybe there is something bigger going on that they didn't want Dean to know about yet. I have no clue what that might be - I'm just speculating. You're right though - the last thing Dean needs is for the few people he trusts to be keeping more secrets. I've just got to believe Bobby has done this to Dean for a very good reason - which we find out SOON.
I do agree it felt like they crammed an awful lot into one hour, but I guess they did need to set up the season and the new mysteries and questions as well as the new tone, so I'll give them a pass on that. Bobby has a lot of screen time coming up, so maybe he can redeem himself, but just once I'd like to have someone admit to Dean they were wrong and they're sorry, ya know? The poor guy keeps forgiving and forgetting but never actually gets to hear the words.
Absolutely agree! I'm tired of emo. I want Intense!Dean and Action!Dean. But most of all I want Snarky!Dean back. Sometimes I think he was left in hell and someone should break him out. Where's a hell gate when you need one?
Wasn't a fan of Bobby here myself. I thought it was calculating even if he had good intentions. He had to know Dean would learn eventually and that he would feel betrayed. Dean had enough of betrayal by his dad. Of course, perhaps when Bobby gets more than 5 minutes of air time, he will redeem himself. Another example of cramming too much into 1 episode.
Yeah - it's different - but that doesn't equate to bad. Did you read any of the previous comments? The general consensus seems to be that this episode was supposed to jolt us out of our Supernatural comfort zone. Sam is supposed to be cold and emotionless after his visit to hell, but the hope is that he will recover some of himself as the season progresses. Everything we expect to see on SPN has been upended, but that doesn't mean it will stay that way - surely you would expect some fallout from the almost-apocalypse? My main criticism is that they tried to fit too much into one episode. All I'm saying is have a little patience and a good dose of faith - it's not like Sera Gamble and Co. haven't been around since season 1 either - they're not exactly flying blind. ;)
I am wavering slightly. I enjoyed it but I think how different it is jarred me a little - They've both changed so much, which is good, but odd. Sam is so detached and Dean has lost his... Mojo? He's been domesticated.
I was a bit irritated by all the cousins because it meant there wasn't as much a chance for Sam and Dean to talk, although I think it avoided concentrating on them too much. They're definitely up to something ...
I'll know if I'm going to enjoy it by the next couple of episodes I suspect.
I've just seen the episode - wow. Even though Sam's the one who lived the trauma of being in Lucifer's cage, I actually felt for Dean sooo much all episode long. Poor guy, he would love to have his apple pie life with Lisa and Ben, at the same time he would love to put Sam in the Impala and drive with him for a hunt. And he knows neither is possible and whatever choice he makes, someone's gonna suffer. I just love Dean the family guy to pieces, the way he was worried about Lisa and Ben, they way he just CARES... damn, Sam is right, Dean cares hell a lot. And then the dark, mysterious sth about Sam. Loved it. I only hope his coming back will be explained in a way we'll be able to accept. I don't really like the Campbell business, it's supposed to be Sam and Dean against the world, right? I kind of don't feel the idea of them being a part of a group. They're Winchesters, not Campbells. Their team is Bobby, and occasionally Cas. And plus, bringing grandpa back to life is one person brought back too much. I would have loved if they brought John, though. Samuel not so much. so all in all, I'm curious and excited to see how it all evolves, I only hope we won't get to see the Cambpells in every episode. waiting for Castiel, also.
I agree Mia. I'm quite edgy about Sam and Dean working as part of a team... We'll have to see how it works out. And resurrecting Grampa does feel a bit like a resurrection too far; I'm up for changing my mind though.
I loved it. It had glimpses of the old Supernatural mixed in with a newer, darker tone. I mean, Supernatural has always been a pretty dark show but the fact that it has this enhanced and continually unsettling undertone really kicks it up a notch. In a way, it reminds me a bit of season 1 in the sense that it's reminiscent of the horror/thriller genre that Supernatural was originally set to invoke. The episode seemed a bit off-kilter, however, but that's probably because of how much our characters have changed in the past year. I was really impressed... hope they keep up the momentum in the next episodes!
Also, even though I love Castiel and the angel/demon heaven/hell arc, I was kind of relieved to have something focusing a bit more on the motw, just because we've had so much of the angel mytharc in the past few seasons. Like I said before, there was a very retro Supernatural feel to tonight's episode :)
Totally agree with you Rochey. Sam just isn't Sam. He still has that Lucifer smirk... And he's completely emotionless. I think that's why he wants Dean back, he wants himself back. I think it's going to be a journey for Sam to find himself again after everything that has happened to him.
Agree again. I think we're meant to feel this about Sam and that we'll gain some insight in to why he's like this in future episodes. I hope to anyway. If it works it'll be a great character arc.
FINALLY got my computer issues sorted so I could see it.
I didn't like: The first thing that popped into my head to comment on is that Gwen must die! And I really hope Sam or Dean are the ones to kill her. For someone who had a minimal amount of screen time her annoyance factor was off the charts. I'll reserve judgement on the other two for now but not liking them so far. I liked Dean's 'professional' comeback - he obviously just needs to get pissed off enough to put them all in their place.
Not enough humor - I'm talking one liners not full on comedy.
Grandpa Creepy (Thanks for that rochey_1) well yeah he's up to something and I just bet Dean will be the one to take him down. Cos someone needs to. I won't list all the reasons because rochey_1 said it all so well - he is smarmy and controlling. I do NOT like him AT ALL.
The djinn were different - possibly to do with the whole monsters behaving differently scenario we've been told about? I'm hoping it was that and not just sloppiness on Sera's part.
Sam was kind of how I expected him to be given what we were told beforehand - didn't make it any easier to see him like that though. I'm guessing the relationship with Dean will improve over time - hell they already crammed three episodes worth of stuff into one.
So, what DID I like?
Lisa. Strong, brave and totally accepting of Dean and his 'issues', but not about to let him get away with anything. Didn't see enough of Ben to form an opinion, but seeing them working on the truck together was cool.
Bobby. He's awesome and they better not try to replace him with Grandpa Creepy or else!
The acting. As usual the boys were terrific, especially given the changes to their characters. They sold it so well that some people are complaining about how different they are. If Sam's been hanging out with the Campbells for a while it's no wonder he's a bit creepy - if we are patient, I'm certain we'll see more of the 'real' Dean and Sam as the season progresses and Sam's experience in hell is revealed.
Sid. Seeing Dean with an 'civilian' friend was entertaining - and - well, nice. It's a shame he had to die.
The title card (or whatever it's called) with the shattered glass - that is so cool.
The episode struck the jarring, unsettling note that I believe it was supposed to. Everything (except Bobby and even he had lied to Dean) was different or mysterious - it certainly made me somewhat uncomfortable and even more curious as to what's going on. I really loved reading all the other comments, and several people have said stuff way better than I could. I'm just relieved to have Supernatural back, doing what it always does - entertaining the hell out of me.
Unfortunately, I read all the spoilers and saw the videos too. This is the most informed I've ever been about a particular episode. Still reading about what is happening and actually seeing it transpire on the screen are two different things. I could read all day about Sam being hard and indifferent but nothing would have prepared me for that chilling head nod during Dean's hug. I expected Sam to be more like Dean in the pilot, but Dean was NEVER that cold and matter of fact.
"I think that's why he wants Dean back, he wants himself back"
Hmm! I didn't think about it that way. I like that because it would hint that Sam is struggling to find a way to reconcile his experiences with who he is. That Sam is aware that he is different and is fighting to resurface. It also gives me hope that we will get Sammy back instead of this cold Sam.
I'm also looking forward to finding out what exactly has happened to him in hell. Revealing Dean's hell in season 4 was shocking, emotional and more importantly, essential for the plot. I hope it will be similar with Sam now.
I want Sammy back. I feel like he needs Dean to reconcile his experiences; that it isn't working with the Campbell's because, well, they also appear to be quite emotionally distant. I guess we'll learn more about them as this season unfolds.
Hi. I agree with most of what you said - I liked Sid too! I did think the tone was incredibly unsettling, but worked... Will take a bit to get used to though.
Weirdly I disagree about Gwen. I'm not saying I like her, but I find her quite intriguing. She seemed traumatised and very very creepy/disturbed. I liked Mark Campbell (I think he was Mark; the monosyllabic one??)
And I agree. The showrunners/creators/producers/whatever enjoy it when we tell them what we enjoyed or what we didn't enjoy about the show, and they usually take measures to comfort the fans if they pull something out of nowhere that makes us uncomfy. But at the same time, the season just started. We have only had one episode aired, and like I said above, no one quite knows where it's going yet. Like a friend of mine said, Being a fan is like having faith. You can't just have it when things are going good. Give it time to progress and get to where it's going before you condemn the show.
I would agree with you on the 'dead staying dead' bit, but the way my mind works (and sometimes I can't even understand my own mental processes, lol) that would mean that Sam and Dean would be dead a thousand times over and we wouldn't have a show. :-\ Being an archangel does give you leeway, and I hope they do bring Gabe back (but not Anna. Anna can stay the hell away from this show), but one of the most emotional parts of these episodes for me is the return of beloved characters. I miss Ellen and Jo (Ellen more than Jo if we're being honest), and the way they went out wasn't fair to me. I'd like at least a little salute to them at the least, even if it's a flashback or something. And John's ghost giving Dean and Sam his Proud Papa smile in the season 2 finale always makes me cry.
But Azazel being a figment of Dean's horror-filled imagination? Yeah, thank god. I love Fred Lehne, but he gives me the heebies whenever he pops up out of nowhere like he does. Like, he came on screen tonight, and I yelped and nearly fell off of my bed.
Don't know if this has already been suggested, but I'm wondering if Grandpa Creepy deliberately led the Djinn to Dean to manipulate him back into hunting? Seems like he might do something underhand like that to get what he wants.
It was awesome! Fantastic! Stupendous! So well worth the long wait! I loved every minute of it! I enjoyed the flashbacks of Dean when he was with Ben and then when he was with Sam. I agree, something about Grandpa and the cousins just does not add up. Anyone notice the look in Grandpa's eyes the last time they showed him? It gave me the creeps! I think the cousins will go eventually, but isn't Corin Nemec supposed to be a regular for awhile? I have not seen him in a long time and he looks good. Did anyone notice Deans' hair? It looked darker to me and not so spikey as before. The reunion hug between the boys could have been a little more emotional on Sam's part, but I think it was just his way of telling Dean that he was back and that it is really him this time. I wonder if Sam's time in the cage (even though it was hardly anytime really) will be explored a little more. I was not the least bit disappointed about anything regarding the episode and after waiting so many long months for it, it was definitely worth the wait. I think this season is going to be the best ever! Welcome back, Sam and Dean, we have missed you so much!
Uhh...Don't kill Lisa, cos it might caused some chain effect; which I, as a fan, really won't like 1. Dean becomes super emo. 2. Dean have to take care of Ben. & the impala only suited for 1 leather jacket & 1 sasquatch. 3. Ben might die or becomes evil & Dean might have to kill him. Again super emo Dean. Basically, no more super emo Dean. We want super kickass badass sometime emo Dean. Urgently.
Come on.... are you kidding me? Is this the shiow we loved for 5 years??? This was the big return? Does nobody see that Sera is going to $#$%$@# up completly the best show that has ever been made till now?????? (forgive me for my english) . We used to love this show demad... Din is too soft, Sam is completly empty from feelings and the adrenaline? Where the hell has adrenaline gone? ||What was that? \Demad and I was excited the whole summer... ||||Dont destroy the only think we really loved as much as possibnle the last two years... KRIPKE HELP!!!

Grampa Creepy. I like that. The Campbell Soup Kids was mine and I'd love to use Gpa Creepy. I agree with most of what you liked and disliked. I do think Sam is cold and distant because the hunters he's hooked up with are strictly business and not exactly the 'family' he's used to or needs (Dean.) I think once Dean is pulled back in we'll see a change in Sam. I also agree we're gonna get a power struggle between Dean and Gpa Creepy. Not because Dean doesn't respect the other hunter, but because Dean has grown too much to be a follower anymore. He's come to grips with what John was like and is no longer easily swayed. He won't sit bak and say "yes, sir" to someone he doesn't trust and I don't think he's gonna immediately trust Gpa Creepy is ever.
As for the Campbell Soup Kids, I liked Gwen. She liked Dean's snark and I felt like she was kind of just teasing him because she felt like she knew him from everything Sam had said about him. Maybe it's just me, but someone like that kind of makes it easier to join in. i didn't like Christian -- the "leave it to the professionals - douche. He was quite full of himself. Apparently he wasn't listening to Sam talk about his brother. This is a hunter who helped save the world, dude. I think he can be considered a professional no matter how long he's been out of the game. I see some friction between him and Dean coming, too.
And finally I didn't love Bobby here. Wasn't he the one who yelled at Dean for even considering cutting Sam out? And now it's okay for Sam to cut Dean out? And he helped? I can understand Sam thinking it was best -- he has a history of making bad decisions with good intentions. But Bobby? He's smarter than that. He knows hunters don't get out. They can't un-know what they know. They can't turn their heads and pretend the monsters aren't out there. Dean trusted him more than anyone and he let him down. Dean has a right to be disappointed. Good intentions or no, did either of them know him at all?
And yes, I'm looking forward to the 'accident' befalling Sam's ride... and the return of the Impala to it's rightful place.
I enjoyed it completely. It had everything. I loved how Dean was trying so hard to enjoy his new life, but didn't seem to fit in there, but he didn't seem to fit in with the old life either. You know there is something not right about Sam and Grandpa Campbell is up to something.
I LOVED the new ominous feeling that this episode had. And those shots of the neighbors getting attacked really affected me--I am used to Supernatural, but tonight's episode was genuinely unsettling. It feels like the overall vibe of the show has been enhanced slightly.
I am iffy on the cousins thing. Maybe they'll grow on me, but I kinda want them to either die or be sure to give the show some sort of depth.
I just watched it and OMG!!! I absolutely loved it. I am kinda wondering how Sam and their Grampa came back. Theres gotta b something going on there. I am super ecited 4 next weeks episode though
Exactly. This one surprised everyone I know who's watching SPN and creeped me out, but spoilers say that they'd slowly get on the same tracks like before... They better do that! I've read comments like "Woo, how sexy Sam is right now". He's definitely not. He's creepy. And not Sam at all.
Chicken broth without the noodles. Love that! Yes, Dean will not be taking orders from Gpa, I think that will be established pretty quickly. Gpa did say that he had brought them all together when Dean asked them why he and Sam had never heard of them before, so, in essence, he is their leader since 1) he's the oldest, most experienced -- albeit out of touch -- hunter among them and 2) he died and went to heaven supposedly, so he was never 'out' of hunting, since being dead doesn't count. It's like he picked up right where he left off in life. So the CSKs would naturally see him as a leader since he brought them together, as would Sam. But now there's Dean. Dean isn't a follower anymore. Look for fireworks. He may believe he's rusty, the CSKs may believe he's rusty, but Dean is not a learned hunter, he's a born, instinctual hunter. And, life Sam said, he hunts for a different reason than everyone else. His heart is what makes him better. He has always hunted to save people, not to simply kill evil. His motivations are what makes him a better hunter. I think Sam knows that and knows that having Dean around makes them not only better hunters, but better people.
SPN 6.1 - What the heck was THAT? (i.e. Things that confused me)
1. Sam - Is he suffering from PHSS (Post-Hell Stress Syndrome)? Has he been brainwashed by Grandpa Mitch? Does he still have a little Satan in his bloodstream? What has happened to Sammy!
2. Grandpa - Gramps definitely has an evil old dude vibe. In fact, he's going for creepy cult leader. The CSA have certainly drunk the Kool-Aid. Sam's acting like the newest Stepford kid. Gramps' recruiting of Dean seems right from a militant's handbook with his family pride rah-rah and the "follow me or our deaths are on your head" mentality. Add to that the secrets, the djinn kidnapping, and the fact that he's living even though YED killed him and grandpa out-evils the monsters this week. My bet - he's the head of the monster invasion.
3. The Djinn - Now I know the monsters have gone haywire this year, but these guys don't make sense. The whole point of the djinn giving people happy juice was so they could feed off of them. How does giving people nightmares that kill you help them gain sustenance? Also, in the original djinn story, they have the dreams all at once. Dean occasionally saw glimpses of what was happening, but he didn't keep flipping back and forth from reality to fantasy. Why did Dean have nightmares only to get back to reality and then have nightmares again the next day? It made no sense. Finally, why did the djinns' tattoos show up when they were touching Dean the second time, but they didn't when waitress girl touched him the first time?
4. Why does Dean need to lie to Lisa about a possible hunt when she already knows about his previous life? It seemed like much ado for nothing and it's not like she didn't see right though him.
5. Why was Dean's front door open when he came back for Lisa and Ben? Did the dead car guy break in to go to the bathroom? Do djinns not know that suburbanites make nosy neighbors? Just odd.
6. YED - What was true? When YED said something was coming for Ben, was that the nightmare talking or should I have palpitations about monsters stalking Ben? I can't take Ben's death.
The biggest question--Why in the world does the CW think that by watching Supernatural, I would have any interest in watching 90210? Of all their shows, this seems like the worst fit.
Yeah Carrie, I hope that keep each other human stuff applies to this season especially in regards to Sam, because otherwise we won't ever see Sammy again and that will totally suck xxx
I agree with you that Sam wants Dean back because he wants himself back. Remember that hell stripped away humanity. Sam mentioned he doesn't care as much anymore & thats why he needed Dean. I'm not surprised the writers portrays Sam this way. Kudos to Jared for the ability to bring the 'awkward coldness but still Sammy inside' character; strong enough that fans could actually feels it. I think both actors are growing every season. Loved them both so much!!!
The episode was awesome. Agree with great opening scene bringing everything up to date. Wish we could have had more than 5 minutes!!!! of "Happy Dean" before "All Hell Broke Loose" Sammy sitting and waiting for Dean to wake up....Sam way too nonchalant, bodes bad things. I like the addition of Campbell clan. I know all the men from other shows (love 'em) but something is up with Grampa Campbell. Great start to the season
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
ReplyDeleteJust opened my EW and Dean's face was staring at me. They used the quote, "What, did you lose the ability to send a freakin' text message?" in their SoundBites section. Hey, any little bit of publicity helps.
ReplyDeletehmm...i don't know...
ReplyDeleteWow. That's all I can really say for now. Very good episode. Oh, and is it me or does Lisa look more tan than when we last saw her last season??
ReplyDeleteOMG - this episode was AWESOME!!! If this 1st ep is any indication of how this season is going to go and the new places the writters will take us, this series will be around for year 9 & 10!!! Absolutely incredible, from the storyline which keeps us guessing, to the acting... loved every minute of it!!!!
ReplyDeleteShe does and it looks great on her.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a 'wow' episode. From Sam's car to the little shoutout to Jensen's golf playing and the weirdo twist with Grandpa, very good indeed. Next episode with babysitting Dean is going to be hilarious.
LOVE IT.
ReplyDeleteThis episode was an awesome series premier-starter-let-me-bring-you-up-to-speed.
What I don't like:
-Too many extras (hopefully they'll get killed off as weeks go by, lol)
-The Lisa factor.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the cousins? Did you or anyone else not like the looks of Mark?? He was the third one introduced, I think.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying so hard not to read the comments here to avoid spoilers! I live in Europe, so it haven't aired yet.. but does anyone know of a website where I can watch the episode?? I'm desperate! :(
ReplyDeleteDownloading torrent or streaming? Because I know of a good DL torrent site.
ReplyDeletehttp://eztv.it/
Yeah, I know of torrent sites, but I'm not sure if they have posted it already.. Haven't the episode only been out for a few hours?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!! :D
ReplyDeletehttp://www.tv-dome.net/supernatural-season-6-episode-1/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
ReplyDeleteThere you go...
I hope that's good enough for streaming for now...
You are my SAVIOR! xD
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!
I like Lisa. I'm glad she's staying and I like how she called Dean on his saying sorry. She's a strong woman but not afraid to show how she feels. Plus she's an adult unlike most of Dean's girl toys. What's not to love.
ReplyDeleteLiked the episode. Confused as to what is happening. Did not like Grandpa Mitch! He's up to something, doesn't have a good reason to be back, brought in people we don't know (are they evil?), and reminds me of John. I hope he turns out evil.
ReplyDeleteI loved it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little nervous about Sam, especially since I've seen some of the promos where he has that utterly evil look on his face.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I like the dead to stay dead. No Jo. No Ellen. No John.
Yeah grandpa was acting WAY too similar to Yellow Eyes Grandpa...I don't like it. He's...smarmy... :(
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Awesome for me!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSmarmy is the perfect word. Like something pretending to be human and overdoing it.
ReplyDeleteEdited to add...it was very convenient how he happened to run into Sam after they both came back from the dead at the same time.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say: Sam's tattoo is still there. :)
ReplyDeletePretty good way to start season 6.
ReplyDeleteCampbell Soup kids..heehee!
ReplyDeletePS Dean's "almost professional" line was my favorite of the episode too.
I loved Sam's line when he drank the salt water! "Taste like crap" is what I think he said HA!
ReplyDeleteSo much to love.
ReplyDeleteI loved the episode!! For some reason there seemed to be something missing, maybe it's Dean's jacked or the Impala
ReplyDeleteHAHHA! I'm sure all the cousins gets killed quickly but we might have Granpa with us longer. AND I love him but I want Dean and SAM ALONE! or with CASTIEL because he is one of them hehehe.
ReplyDeleteoh gosh I think im gonna re watch it,
I love Supernatural but I was expecting so much more.
ReplyDeleteI don't trust Grandpa or the so called Campbells. Like the new qualities to Dean but not the cold hearted Sam.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME EPISODE. They have definitely set this season up a notch. It's double the creepiness and it was just so damn epic. I admit I had my doubts at first about this season but that episode just cleared it all for me.
ReplyDeleteI still hate Grandpa Samuel though, and the cousins. I hope they all get killed off soon :) I actually really like Lisa in this season, I hope she and Ben stay around for a while.
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!!! :D
The Impala was in the garage under the tarp, we saw it when Lisa caught him in there. And the jacket was put away in that box T_T I nearly cried when I saw it there. That was just as bad as having the Impala covered up.
ReplyDelete"That's nasty" ;D Watched it 3 times already heehe
ReplyDeleteNo probs. I've currently got it on repeat, lol.
ReplyDeleteI like the psychological analysis going on :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Loser by Bob Seger. I looked it up on YouTube immediately: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lqb9PtEO3TA
ReplyDeleteBTW - showing my woeful ignorance here but can anyone clue me in on the title/artist of the song they played over the opening montage? I thought it was just so appropriate.
ReplyDeleteI want Lisa to die!!! She's boring and Deans going to be tethered to her and not to Sam and Cas as long as she's alive.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the promos and Sam has the tat. It is still there.
ReplyDeleteIt is supernatural. What is dead, never stays dead.
ReplyDeleteThen we wouldn't have a show, cause Sam and Dean would be dead.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I would like to see how Sam found Dean and got the stuff out of him in the end. It did seem to jump at that moment.
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right, but maybe Cas was too busy with the AAA cleanup (love that!) to pay attention to mundane human things like escaping from Lucifer's cage in Hell. If not, and he knew, I'm sure Dean will feel like the guy who didn't get an invitation to the party. Which will make him feel stupid... which will tick him off... which will be pretty fun to see. And then he can get snarky with everyone and I'll be happy!
ReplyDeleteThe good:
ReplyDelete- Lisa and Ben - They were a lot more three-dimensional characters than I ever would have expected from this show.
The Bad:
- Djinns - NOT creepy enough -.-
CSK works for me!
ReplyDeleteI think it is a fair bet that Cas knew.
ReplyDeleteI hope their is a reason too. I just don't want it to be that Grandpa Creepy has twisted Bobby around too. That would be evil!
ReplyDeleteI love the episode but I`m almost sure that grandpa is up to no good! When he took that female djinn and he told these "cousins" to leave with her before the boys are back... he`s definitely hiding something! Oh and I can`t wait to see Dean in his leather jacket again ;) And I want the Impala back !!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHis anti-possesion tattoo is still there. Someone made a printscreen of his workout-ing from the first SPN promo and I saw it there, but delicately hidden behind those abs of his.
ReplyDeleteI think that season premiere was incredible. :D
ReplyDeleteTo Sammy.
I agree except for I don't like the fact to "dump" on Lisa. Ya know- Hi I'm here, Hi I'm gone.... I hate that
ReplyDeleteThe episode was great. The only thing that didn't fit are the Cambels. I could live without the Grandpa, don't know why he has to be in every single episode. Wasn't the show supposed to be Sam and Dean only?
ReplyDeleteThat's my concern and my hope.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that every time Dean and Sam and miscellaneous guest star die, it lessens the tension of the next death.
ReplyDeletei love EOD coz right now thats what he seems
ReplyDeleteSomething seemed fishy about all of them... or it was bad acting, not sure. I saw way too many "knowing glances" throughout the episode. Why the heck were they keeping that Jinn (sp?) Grandpa said put it in the van before the boys get back. What is that all about? And why the heck are Sam and Dean so distant? Sam seems way way way different. Kinda cold.
ReplyDeleteHe did have that classic sympathetic Sammy look when Dean was frantically searching for Lisa and Ben but could not find them. That's about all I saw. For me it's the creepy head nod when Dean was hugging him. It made me think of a creepy villain voice saying, "Aaahhh! I've got him. My plans are coming together and soon I will release all evil." Seriously chilling that head nod.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Lisa/Dean conversations too. At first I didn't think I would like how Lisa and Ben fit into Dean's life and I didn't want him to be the bad guy for leaving them. So far, it has surpassed all my expectations.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't just the djinns not being creepy. They were hardly in it. So much for returning to the Monster of the Week.
Oh I know they were there, I mean that he wasn't using them :( I love the impala!
ReplyDelete"The inevitable accident that will befall Sam's car." LOL! I love it and your analysis of the show. It seems we have similar taste. I also like the Grandpa Creepy moniker.
ReplyDeleteScrew monster of the week--we all know that's just a device to push the storyline forward.
ReplyDeleteMOTW episodes are nice but hardly amount to engaging television. If you want a procedural, go watch CSI.
"The biggest question--Why in the world does the CW think that by watching Supernatural, I would have any interest in watching 90210? Of all their shows, this seems like the worst fit."
ReplyDeleteI thought the EXACT same thing.
ReplyDeleteWhat you said about him trying to drive a wedge between Sam and Dean.
Thanks for the niceties xxx
Nothing in this episode surprised me. Maybe I was one of the few people that read the articles and watched the interviews of the cast/crew about what S6 is going to be like. I'm wondering if thats where the disconnect is. If I didn't already know how Sam and Dean were going to be portrayed, I probably would have the same reactions as some other fans... a big WTF?!. lol
ReplyDeleteWell part of the campaign for the season premiere was "Trust No One." This episode showed that. What you wrote is great and makes a lot of sense. It is well thought out. Considering I have read so many negative comments over the last couple of days it is good to see some positive takes on this. I think the storyline for this season is, The apocalypse failed, now what happens to everyone.
ReplyDeleteHi amy xxx read your comment. the thing is, a lot of us did read the articles and the interviews and some of us even know a few spoilers about whats to come in future episodes(i'm a spoiler w**re).
ReplyDeleteAnd even after all that it was still a shock to see sam like that because i couldn't connect with him and thats just one episode. thats how bad it was.
ReplyDeleteThe heart of the show is missing and it is somehow connected with Sam and the relationship with his brother, at least for me!
But I miss Sam!
lol Whoops! Thanks for correcting me : ) Yeah, I thought that was freakin hilarious!
ReplyDeleteno deany dean is still hot and action dean just rusty as he say's
ReplyDeleteyeh but if u mind sara did write alot of great episode "crossroads blues" "All hell break's loss part 1" " Salvation" "Faith" "Blood-lust" one of the best from season 2 , "Heart" so sad , "time is on my side" season3 , Are You There, God? It's Me, Dean Winchester" ,"When the Levee Breaks" ,"Good God, Y'All!", now this i love its so sad for bobby classic episode "The Curious Case of Dean Winchester" , "Two Minutes to Midnight", . Sorry about all the titles just trying to restore ur faith in her ae . lol. I believe sam is still the devil when he jumped in the caged he was still and why he so cold and there's something dark about him . But we'll see if ma theory is right lol .
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure there is a good reason.
ReplyDeleteSo having Bobby side with Sam's plan to hide his resurrection and let Dean go on believing he was in Hell does have precedence, and they may just let it stand.
ReplyDeleteI do agree it felt like they crammed an awful lot into one hour, but I guess they did need to set up the season and the new mysteries and questions as well as the new tone, so I'll give them a pass on that. Bobby has a lot of screen time coming up, so maybe he can redeem himself, but just once I'd like to have someone admit to Dean they were wrong and they're sorry, ya know? The poor guy keeps forgiving and forgetting but never actually gets to hear the words.
ReplyDeletelike what?
ReplyDeleteI downloaded it from iTunes. It worked really well in the montage.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree! I'm tired of emo. I want Intense!Dean and Action!Dean. But most of all I want Snarky!Dean back. Sometimes I think he was left in hell and someone should break him out. Where's a hell gate when you need one?
ReplyDeleteWasn't a fan of Bobby here myself.
ReplyDeleteYeah - it's different - but that doesn't equate to bad.
ReplyDeleteAll I'm saying is have a little patience and a good dose of faith - it's not like Sera Gamble and Co. haven't been around since season 1 either - they're not exactly flying blind. ;)
I am wavering slightly. I enjoyed it but I think how different it is jarred me a little - They've both changed so much, which is good, but odd. Sam is so detached and Dean has lost his... Mojo? He's been domesticated.
ReplyDeleteI was a bit irritated by all the cousins because it meant there wasn't as much a chance for Sam and Dean to talk, although I think it avoided concentrating on them too much.
ReplyDeleteAnd then the dark, mysterious sth about Sam.
ReplyDeleteI loved it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, even though I love Castiel and the angel/demon heaven/hell arc, I was kind of relieved to have something focusing a bit more on the motw, just because we've had so much of the angel mytharc in the past few seasons.
ReplyDeleteAgree again. I think we're meant to feel this about Sam and that we'll gain some insight in to why he's like this in future episodes. I hope to anyway. If it works it'll be a great character arc.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY got my computer issues sorted so I could see it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like:
The first thing that popped into my head to comment on is that Gwen must die!
I used this site. Thanks for posting it :)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I read all the spoilers and saw the videos too.
ReplyDelete"I think that's why he wants Dean back, he wants himself back"
ReplyDeleteHmm!
ReplyDeleteI like how you think Carrie.
ReplyDelete"Gwen must die"
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. And I would make it excruciatingly painful.
I want Sammy back. I feel like he needs Dean to reconcile his experiences; that it isn't working with the Campbell's because, well, they also appear to be quite emotionally distant. I guess we'll learn more about them as this season unfolds.
ReplyDeleteGrandpa Creepy - VERY. *shudder*
ReplyDeleteSaying that, he can't ever go back to who he was in Season 1. The brothers have always been each others anchor.
ReplyDeleteGreat analysis. I didn't even think of the Djinn thing while watching, but reflecting on it does induce post-Supernatural befuddlement. Hrm.
ReplyDeleteHi. I agree with most of what you said - I liked Sid too! I did think the tone was incredibly unsettling, but worked... Will take a bit to get used to though.
ReplyDeleteWeirdly I disagree about Gwen.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with you on the 'dead staying dead' bit, but the way my mind works (and sometimes I can't even understand my own mental processes, lol) that would mean that Sam and Dean would be dead a thousand times over and we wouldn't have a show.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that assessment Dahne1.
ReplyDeleteIt was awesome! Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone notice Deans' hair? It looked darker to me and not so spikey as before. The reunion hug between the boys could have been a little more emotional on Sam's part, but I think it was just his way of telling Dean that he was back and that it is really him this time. I wonder if Sam's time in the cage (even though it was hardly anytime really) will be explored a little more.
I was not the least bit disappointed about anything regarding the episode and after waiting so many long months for it, it was definitely worth the wait. I think this season is going to be the best ever! Welcome back, Sam and Dean, we have missed you so much!
Oooohh! I like this theory. Grandpa Creepy pulling strings right from the start. That's so Machiavellian it gives his character added evil.
ReplyDeleteUhh...Don't kill Lisa, cos it might caused some chain effect; which I, as a fan, really won't like
ReplyDelete1.

ReplyDeleteThanx Carrie - I must have been having a(nother) senior moment - I could have done that myself - duh!
ReplyDeleteGrampa Creepy.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Campbell Soup Kids, I liked Gwen.
ReplyDeleteIt's on there : ) Also, I am looking for a streaming site for ppl, too!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED the new ominous feeling that this episode had. And those shots of the neighbors getting attacked really affected me--I am used to Supernatural, but tonight's episode was genuinely unsettling.
ReplyDeleteIt feels like the overall vibe of the show has been enhanced slightly.
I am iffy on the cousins thing. Maybe they'll grow on me, but I kinda want them to either die or be sure to give the show some sort of depth.
Yeah, this might be the first girl on the show that SURVIVES.
ReplyDeleteO.o
(fat chance but I really do like Lisa...)
Yeah, as Dean has said "What's dead should stay dead."
ReplyDeleteOtherwise it doesn't matter at all if they die...
I just watched it and OMG!!! I absolutely loved it. I am kinda wondering how Sam and their Grampa came back. Theres gotta b something going on there. I am super ecited 4 next weeks episode though
ReplyDeleteDIE DIE DIE DIE! :DDDDD
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA RIGHT! I totaly forgot about this haha.
ReplyDeleteExactly. This one surprised everyone I know who's watching SPN and creeped me out, but spoilers say that they'd slowly get on the same tracks like before... They better do that! I've read comments like "Woo, how sexy Sam is right now". He's definitely not. He's creepy. And not Sam at all.
ReplyDeleteI loved it. I actually found it better than last year's Sympathy for the devil.
ReplyDeleteChicken broth without the noodles.
ReplyDeleteSPN 6.1 - What the heck was THAT? (i.e. Things that confused me)
ReplyDelete1.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that Sam wants Dean back because he wants himself back.
ReplyDeleteThe episode was awesome.
ReplyDeleteLOL, thanks. A friend of mine already confirmed it for me. His muscles were just too bunched up for me to see it. Hee.
ReplyDelete
