Well now I have to admit to being wrong. Last week I said they weren't aliens because why would the President of U.S. be debating allowing aliens to enter the general population of the country. Now I'm saying what an idiot this President is (though I do love Blair Underwood) for signing a bill to allow non human life forms into the U.S.? Had to laugh at that.
I'm liking this show a lot but also laughed at the writers for having the plane & an "alien" invasion in Arizona. Those in the U.S. would understand why there's humor in using Arizona.
I like the cast a lot & the characters. Very impressed with Jason Ritter, At first it was difficult to watch him due to the striking resemblance he has to his father however he's proving to be quite the dramatic actor. My biggest problem with this show is that I tend to make Lost comparisons: the others, one of them (Simon), what they died for came to mind, the dead bodies laying there reminded me of the dead Ajira bodies & thoughts of MIB popped into my head. I'm wondering how much of this is being done on purpose TBH.
The President & Vice President are never in the same place for public functions (except the State of the Union Address). It's normal security standard operating procedure. In episode 1 mention of where the Vice President was before Martinez could give his press conference. I believe he was in the air when all systems went dead, but there was nothing suspicious about him being gone.
Michael seemed quite dead to me, I don't know maybe he was pretending.
Well there were no records of him having a suite and a ticket on the ship.. But when he went in the reception he Was on the ship and they saw him, and after that they started chasing him.. Hope this helps :D
wow so far so good I really enjoyed this episode and love how the show kinda forces you to stay concentrated all the time. It's funny that the actor who plays Simon has his second role as a guy who doesn't age or ages slow ( I remember "Surface"...) The whole " earlier/later flashbacks"-style - LOVING IT!! and lol, looks like Jason Ritter is gonna do a lot of running in the show
just a question, i dont know if you noticed this ...
supposedly there are no records of sean being on the cruise ship, yet sean is wanted for killing greg ON the cruise ship. what's up with that?
dont get me wrong, i like the show. since im searching for my post-LOST fix. i just hope they wont go down the 4400 route, coz we've been there before. just a thought. knowing that one of the show's creators is a 4400 alum
coz im starting to believe that the detainees, like those in 4400, are us from the future trying to prevent an impending doom. i think the detainees are trying to prevent the EVENT. they are us or an evolved version of us
personally, i didn't really dig this episode. the only scene that stood out for me was when simon lee was pulling that plastic tube out of his bicep. it would have been awesome had they released this as part of a two-hour premiere.
i also dig the "common ancestor" theory. the're been chatter on some forums that the event has something to do with mitochondrial eve ... get it? EVEnt? hehehehe nah!
In my opinion, Very Nice comeback after last week. After last week, I was left hesitant as to weather this show was going to grasp me, like so many beloved shows have done in the past. It has.
I'm pretty sure the aliens aren't even close to actually being the event. They are going to take us on a wild ride hopefully for a long time. Hopefully.......
they already stated that they base the possibility of them being aliens by the fact that their genetic material differs from normal humans.
From detainee side - they did not tell them anything. In fact one of the reason they are detained is BECAUSE government found only found out by themselves that detainees differ from humans.
We have yet to see why the government think they're aliens, the detainees said so themselves or the government just think they're aliens? The possibility of a "they were humans all along" twist exists and I love that.
I love your theory, I have a feeling it's only a matter of time until this show introduces time travel. I also think they tried to be as less cliched as possible to the alien approach, and having a "common ancester" really makes sense. But one thing it seemed strange to me is that they also have the same culture...when they were found in 1944 they speaked English and wore normal human clothes, so either they were simulating being humans (which it's hard because it seems that it was an accident that they arrived there) or they are in fact HUMANS, only more evolved.
Wow I voted only "great" but boy was I impressed with this episode. I liked the pilot, but to me the second episode, especially with a show like this, is how you know whether the show is for real or not. After everyone stated calling the whole 'their aliens" thing last week, I was very opposed to the idea. I saw the evidence their, but i figured we were all just reading it wrong, because aliens suck in my opinion, So when they revealed the whole alien thing early on in the episode I was shocked to find myself totally going with it, that how I know this show is actually smart. What I liked was they are humans, and yet they're DNA is a whole percent different. Sterling hinted at two possibilites for this, one is parallel evolution, the other is a common ancestor. As I am personally very familiar with the relation between genetics and the process of speciation, realistically the common ancestor route makes not only more real world genetics sense, but also story wise as well. How can a genetically distinct species, that bares 99% of our same code due to common ancestry, and yet looks exactly like us exist on another planet? The most logical posibilty to me is that they are not just from another planet, but also from the future. In our near future, we leave earth and after hundreds of thousands of years of breeding, but with little evolutionary stimuli to cause adaptation or noticeable physical change, the humans living on this new world would have DNA to distant in time for us to bea bale to reproduce, possibly a whole 1% different. A group of these people then return to Earth in 1944. Also I should point out that in this scenario they technically could still be from a futre Earth, as geography would be unnecessary to produce the 1% difference if half a million years worth of genrations has passed.
You're so right about the characters, as you said it makes a huge difference. In "Event" you really care about the main character while in Flashforward you (I) didn't care at all - I gave up that after 2/3 episodes, but this one seems really interesting. Im glad that there's at least one new show im looking forward to, since this year is in my opinion bad with new ones :/
sure the humans THINK that these detainees are aliens, but what if they are actually humans but from let's say a future or parallel universe.
Both cases would explain their genetic difference.
i really think that the whole "non terrestrial" thing is a red herring, ESPECIALLY after it was commented on how "schimps and humans differ by one percent too". These detainees could have been from future far away enough for them to be evolved further than present day humans.
I too am struggling with seeing LOST parallels everywhere, but that I think is going to happen for me until the show takes on a life of its own which it is quickly doing.
I definitely think it's interesting. I like how there seems to be a lot of things answered already. I love the idea that they're aliens as I didn't expect a network show to really go there.
Great episode.Better than the first. The producers were not lying when they said we would get answers quickly. We all saw the detainers being Aliens coming.I didn't see Simon as one coming however. We see the conspiracy had agents on the cruise ship.which explains how they were able to make It look like Sean wasn't a passenger. However I think the nurses and police are kinda stupid.Sean wants to call the police yet Is suspose to be a killer?President Martenaz doesn't seem concerned that people tried to kill him and his VP and Sterling were convently gone. The conspirators framed the Aliens most likely for the deaths of the passengers.I think Michael will be the only survivor of the plane besides Sean of course.
Voted Awesome! Wow. Great episode. I for one didn't believe that the detainees were going to be Aliens. I just thought that would be a rumor to throw you off track and keep you thinking. Did not see Simon coming, either! Why is everyone of the passengers from the plane except Michael and Sean dead? Did they die of heat stroke, dead by the government or what? When those two feds were driving with Sean, the woman said something like, "What makes you so important?" I am so thinking the same thing! What makes Sean Walker so important that they kidnapped his girlfriend, murdered the girlfriend's mother, and made her father, Michael, hijack the plane and try to crash at that party?? And Sophia!? What do you all make of her? I don't trust her one bit! And I am not talking about her keeping the truth from the President either. Just something about her... Very good episode, the people of the show sure know how to keep me guessing and wanting more!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Anyhow, this show is a definite keeper for me.

I was shocked when I saw all of the passengers from flight 514 all killed. This means war!
ReplyDeleteInteresting theory, Grapes9h5. I like it.
ReplyDeleteloved this episode! this show just keeps getting better and better! can't wait for the next episode :).
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed it. I voted Great, as I think it can get better!
ReplyDeleteMain difference between this and Flashforward so far is that it has great characters. And it makes a huge difference!!
Loved their alien approach. They really are in human form it seems. Not a disguise or anything. It's looking good!
In my opinion, Very Nice comeback after last week. After last week, I was left hesitant as to weather this show was going to grasp me, like so many beloved shows have done in the past. It has.

Wow, this episode was insanely good. I loved every minute. So...
ReplyDelete-Mike's dead?
-Simon is one of the escaped detainees, and masquerading as a CIA agent???
And, like we all predicted, they're aliens. Thought I'd hate it, but I'm really intrigued. It seems like their spin on it is going to be awesome.
Laura Innes is so creepy!
Boring conspiracies? Isn't that pretty much every show that is on nowadays??
ReplyDeleteGlad to know something is thinking the same way as me!! I think its very plausible!
ReplyDeleteThey have a different circulatory system...maybe they don't have a heart beat ;)
ReplyDeleteI think they're are time travelers from Earth's distant future. They are like us, but not...DNA re sequencing, etc has made them 'different'.
ReplyDeleteThey have come back to prevent The event!
Just a guess ;)
have you read the possibility that michael buchanan is from Sophia's camp? and that leila also is an "other" so to speak?
ReplyDeletethey already stated that they base the possibility of them being aliens by the fact that their genetic material differs from normal humans.

Well, this happens to me watching EVERY show, so I guess Lost really defines what we pay attention to :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, if they're able to delete all information about him being on the cruise, they're certainly able to do the opposite just as fast.
ReplyDeleteIf you take the sci-fi out, it would be exactly as 24, uber-boring conspiracies, et al...

So Intresting. The best new show of the season.
The pilot was a good episode- this was flat out amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe Pilot showed potential- this lived up to it.
I hated the idea of aliens- but I like the angle they are taking.
I dislike the "Who is an Alien "? game being played..Is the President a covert Alien as well???
ReplyDeleteI wish the Sci-Fi parts would go away!
Voted Awesome!
