it was intriguing, I thought tried a little bit to much to look like LOST, (there will never be another Lost) acting was good at Best, But i will keep watching it hooked me B+ to A-
I'm in. I really enjoyed it. There are some people out there who just want to compare it to lost and be done with it while some (like myself) are embracing a new show that will hopefully fill the void of Lost. Nothing will ever replace it just like nothing will replace Buffy for me. However, there is great potential in this show in a challenging way of telling a story full of diverse characters. LOST did set the bar for this device, so bring it on because so far, so good. Even Damon Lindelof is DVR-ing it...can't wait to hear what he thought. hehe
I came away from the show feeling that I went to a buffet that only had cheescake. Several different kinds of cheesecake, but cheesecake only. I like cheesecake. Not for a whole dinner. It took elements of several different shows and strung them together, in a not so flattering way. We had 24, Lost, Flashforward, The West Wing, several movies that feature child abduction and extortion, and airplane hijacking. I don't find hijackings to be entertaining.
On a scale of 1-10, I came away wanting more, and annoyed, so I say 5.
This wasn't bad! I expected much less from this show, and it surprised me! Very reminiscent of Lost (flashbacks, cool title screen, etc.) and the main character is pretty cool (interesting protagonist).
I almost didn't watch it after seeing a promo that said something about it replacing Lost. Nothing can replace Lost, not for me. I did end up watching it though because I knew it was irrational not to watch the show just beacuse of that commercial. It was okay at most parts and boring at others, although the disappearing plane was kinda interesting. I may watch a few more episodes to see if it gets any better, but I doubt it. I can't watch television anymore without thinking that whatever I'm watching doesn't come anywhere near the brilliance that is Lost.
I like it overall, but I'm tired of these new shows (ala FlashForward; which I actually liked a lot, for the record) not having any real "wow" characters. There was not one character I connected with and had any emotion for. In Lost, I was immediately invested in Jack and Locke right off the bat. I hope it gets better.
liked it...don't love it as of yet. It's certainly interesting but ...like FF...the characters don't hook one quite the way Lost managed to in their episode.
I don't know why all Lost fans get so butthurt about some show trying to get the same audience, I love Lost and I love that at least this show tried to appeal to the same type of fans.
well apart from the endless mythology and sci-fi elements that were in the pilot, there were some "character moments" that I liked...where Sean Walker (the protagonist) is talking to Michael Buchanan (the pilot), that was great imo. It was obvious they had his daughters at gun point in that moment, so you could felt his sadness and remorse at the same time... also Sean Walker learning his girlfriend was missing, that entire scene was awesome...
Just watched the pilot last night and I really enjoyed it. There will never be a show that can replace Lost, but this show has potential to fill the void. I enjoyed flash forward last year and was dissapointed it didn't get a second chance. Hopefully The Event will continue to intrigue us.
It does seem to be running with ideas and themes from several shows and trying to ride on their success. It just seemed forced and uncomfortable in its own skin in a way. I hope the next episode or two changes that, and it can become its own thing.
The producers themselves said they are not looking to be the next LOST.....so to those comparing....don't.
Look at The Event without comparing it to anything but itself- and you will enjoy it much more.
LOST at its best was a character driven show- that is the part that reeled people in. It started about the characters- with just this bit of mysteriousness lurking in the background.
The Event was full fledged conspiracy thriller with a scifi twist.
Stop comparing- you will only find that everything comes up short to LOST.
I have to say that I didn't think it was that great. I found myself not really caring what the event was or where the girl went. I think the lack of character development was the problem. I can't care about any of it if I don't care about the people. I'll give it one more chance next week to see if it improves.
I like the pilot but it was clear things could either get very good from here, or get very bad. The extremely jumbled plot and timeline worked well in the pilot, but in future episodes I hope they are gonna be less jumpy and be more like Lost, with only two time periods for each episode, one of them always moving forward from the plane disappearance at the end of the pilot. Otherwise it'll be hard to care about whats going on.
I really enjoyed the pilot episode. At the end, my wife and I looked at each other and said, yeah we'll watch that one again and again! Not quite taking care of my LOST fix, but I'll take what I can get! 8-)
Well, I missed out on the Lost train when that first started so if it's going to be a little bit like that with the mystery I guess I should watch. I have to wait until Monday though when it starts here in Australia.
I agree that the characters weren't interesting yet. It might take a few episodes to develop them. The dude's girlfriend that disappeared was easy on the eyes though.
once again, we have a genius who calls out speculation as spoilers. Are you trying to confirm something? Why wouldn't somebody assume it was alien related?
I thought there was too much similarities with LOST! I mean, a plane disappearing in a flash of light, didn't we already see that in LOST?! They could have had more imagination... And with flashbacks and character centrics, I couldn't help but think about LOST again! I may be too addicted, but the inspiration was obvious here. The fact that the producers kept comparing the series to LOST doesn't help neither!
Moreover, the repeat of several scenes was annoying... However, the action was great and I love the mysteries!
I feel like the show didn't give me many characters to care about. Maybe its because I miss LOST :( Anyways, I will tune in next week to see where the hell that plane went...
Haven't seen it but I'll probably start watching once I know what 'The Event' actually is! And just like that, I have become what I hated in past six years: the annoying person who doesn't watch Lost until he/she knows what exactly the Monster is.
The future? The past? Very Langoliers. Or, maybe another dimension. Hmm. Now it's like Lost, 24, FlashForward, AND Fringe, I hope they keep up the spooky factor. That will keep us hooked.
I don't know for sure WHAT "The Event" is, but just based on observations, something moved that plane and then the woman said "they saved us." So how is that a spoiler? Isn't that kind of obvious? What else could have moved it? Angels? Okay, so either way, something likely not human, or maybe someone from the future. I would think it was aliens based on the Alaska thing (like "The Thing"--except maybe not so homicidal.) And anyway I don't have spoiler information. IF I did I wouldn't post it. I'm speculating.
Better watch out or Dark will bust that a$$ for throwing spoilers in there. I will definitely watch again, but the pilot was a bit so so to me. Definitely not "Pilot", but then again not many shows have a pilot as good as Lost. Would have been cool to see a two hour pilot to give us just a little bit more.
The way they did the storyline time jumps was almost blatantly influenced by Damages (the whole show is like that, and it can drive you crazy trying to figure out stuff)...the pacing+government-themed shtick was obviously 24, and the plane drama and disappearance is blatant Lost. This is either going to be spectacular, or spectacularly awful.
I thought it was okay. All the time jumps were too trippy for me, but then again I was planning for a presentation while watching so it may have been my divided attention. I will watch 2 more episodes for sure. The plane thing threw me too.
Multiple time lines- forward, present and past created something in my head that told me I want more information. I guess I'll have to watch it again. Already set my PVR for Monday's. ET lives.
hey...i was getting everything...it was all good...i understood it all then....wtf happened to the plane? that completely threw me off , damn it...why does this feel like lost. shit...now i can't wait for next week
"They saved us." Of course that lady meant aliens. What/who else could "they" be? I had a serious Langoliers moment with the plane disappearing. The writers should take the creep-out factor to the nth degree and run with it, and while they are at it, throw in some crazy stuff ala Twin Peaks.
I'm not sure if anyone agrees with me, but up until the point where the plane dissappeared I was left with a 'meh...' sound in my head, but that twist threw me, and I'm seriously hooked. I think the timeline changes were a pain to be honest, it was like they were trying to capture losts, can't really define what I'm about to say, like transition between island an off island, which I think it didn't do nearly as well as, dissapointed with that, but overall solid, solid foundation. Much better than flashforwards pilot, which I never thought really lived up to any scrutiny.
Bored before the title card popped up. But I'll give it another chance next week just as I did with "Flash Forward". Several episodes into "FF" I had completely lost interest. I suspect the same will happen with "The Event".
So that sure was interesting. The story structure of the show was pretty easy to keep up with but there really are so many questions, looks like I have a lot to write about. The Event definitely has me hooked in the best possible way!
I really liked it. Although I think I'm still suffering from post traumatic syndrome after losing 24, LOST, FF, and Heroes. I'm just having a hard time seeing anything live up to those shows. It kept me interested and I will keep watching. At this point I'm not expecting another "24", but keeping my fingers crossed were not let down.
I was really skeptical after all the hype and comparisons. Thought it was trying to ride in on LOST's coat tails. But the whole family really enjoyed it. And we are a pretty diverse and particular bunch. I was intrigued until the end. Then the twist hooked me!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
it was intriguing, I thought tried a little bit to much to look like LOST, (there will never be another Lost) acting was good at Best, But i will keep watching it hooked me B+ to A-
ReplyDeletethrough one of the windows to the island of course ;)
ReplyDeletelooks like interesting...Got my attention an reminded flashforward a little bit

ReplyDeleteActually, I've read what the event is on this very site... It was behind an "Are you sure" tab.
ReplyDeleteAre you saying you've retracted that spoiler?
Really good pilot.
ReplyDeleteNot at all, but that was just one other sites interpretation/spoiler.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought it was aliens as mentioned, from the earliest
promos :)
We've had no confirmation from any of our sources.
I just can't at the moment see what else it could be?
I like it overall, but I'm tired of these new shows (ala FlashForward; which I actually liked a lot, for the record) not having any real "wow" characters. ReplyDeleteAgreed. Although, I'm actually kind of happy that wasn't a definite spoiler. Leaves the possibility that they'll blow my mind and it's NOT aliens.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the girl that went missing (forgot her name), I think she is part of the 'the others' ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat pilot!!!it's going to be an interesting series unless of course the following episodes go down the same road as flashforward did...
ReplyDeleteIt didn't blow my mind per se, but it was enjoyable. As many said, it's on the line right now. I'll keep watching for now.
ReplyDeleteliked it...don't love it as of yet. It's certainly interesting but ...like FF...the characters don't hook one quite the way Lost managed to in their episode.
ReplyDeletetime will tell
nah, it's all Lost, everywhere :D
ReplyDeletethose frenetic timelines changing are definitely inspired by Lost, only on steroids.
then you just got trolled hard by Darlton...you waited 6 years and the Monster was just the product of some man falling to a magical light :D
ReplyDeleteI don't know why all Lost fans get so butthurt about some show trying to get the same audience, I love Lost and I love that at least this show tried to appeal to the same type of fans.

Lol, that's exactly what I meant
ReplyDeleteThat's the first thing that came to mind. "WTF!? Did the smoke monster get 'em!?"
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I didn't think it was that great. I found myself not really caring what the event was or where the girl went. I think the lack of character development was the problem. ReplyDeleteonce again, we have a genius who calls out speculation as spoilers. Are you trying to confirm something? Why wouldn't somebody assume it was alien related?
ReplyDeleteme too. It stunk and was sort of corny, just like Heroes.
ReplyDeleteI don't think a date has been formally set yet.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as it is we'll be sure to post.
Anyone know when this starts in the UK?
ReplyDeleteI thought there was too much similarities with LOST! I mean, a plane disappearing in a flash of light, didn't we already see that in LOST?! They could have had more imagination... I went to the toilet today and produced something which could live up to the same standard that Heroes set...
ReplyDeleteI feel like the show didn't give me many characters to care about. Maybe its because I miss LOST :( Anyways, I will tune in next week to see where the hell that plane went...

ReplyDeleteEver since the first promo I always suspected it would be something
like first contact etc
If it's not aliens, then I'm even more intrigued as to where they are
going with this.
Check out the recap on the site for last nights episode.
I don't know for sure WHAT "The Event" is, but just based on observations, something moved that plane and then the woman said "they saved us." So how is that a spoiler? Isn't that kind of obvious? ReplyDeleteBy "pull a FlashForward" do you perchance mean take a complete creative nosedive after the pilot? That's how I'd define it.
ReplyDeleteVery, very solid and intriguing pilot. Hopefully it stays strong and doesn't pull a FlashForward
ReplyDeleteI thought it was very interesting. Definitely good enough to keep me coming back for more.
ReplyDeleteWhere the hell did that plane go?
ReplyDeletelol
"They saved us." Of course that lady meant aliens. What/who else could "they" be? I had a serious Langoliers moment with the plane disappearing. The writers should take the creep-out factor to the nth degree and run with it, and while they are at it, throw in some crazy stuff ala Twin Peaks.
