Nikita - A huge FLOP in the CW's target demo?

On the surface Nikita seems to be a hit with total viewers over 3 million on the CW, however with a closer look at the women 18-34 demo which is what the CW sells ADs for Nikita is the worst rated CW show this week (Pending Supernatural / Smallville ratings)
This week in CW W 18-34
Vampire Diaries 2.7 W18-34
Gossip Girl 2.5 W18-34
Top Model 1.9 W18-34
90210 1.8 W18-34
One Tree Hill 1.8 W18-34
Hellcats 1.7 W18-34
Life Unexpected 1.3 W18-34
Nikita 1.2 W18-34

Which is perfectly in-line with how the CW treats the shows, Vampire Diaries,Gossip Girl , Top Model and 90210 have full seasons.
One Tree Hill and Hellcats have 13 episodes + 6 scripts ordered
Life Unexpected and Nikita have only 13 episode orders.

CW still has reality show Shedding for the Wedding pending a timeslot and could still theoretically pickup HMS, it could also import a Canadian shows like Lost Girl which is produced by CW media. Plus last season 2 out of the 10 hours the CW programmed aired repeats most/all of the season (Wednesday 9 PM, Friday PM) so they could theoretically cancel both LUX and Nikita.
This week Nikita lost 56% of it's lead-in's Women 18-34 viewers. Nikita is also a pretty expensive show for the CW to produce.

    I'm still not sure if I will continue watching this show, it is entertaining, but to say it is the best show on tv... I think it is too bad that they are trying to reboot everything nowadays, why not try to find an original script which tells a completely new story, instead of getting involved with old characters and creating expectations (thinking it will be as great as its predecessor), and end up cancelling it after 13 episodes, I would say a waste of time and money.

    They're not gonna cancel Nikita. I don't care what the demos are like. The show gets over 3 million viewers and if The CW cancels it, they'll look freaking ridiculous. The only other show on the network that has managed to crack 3 million viewers in every viewing this season was Vampire Diaries. The CW should welcome these numbers and will definitely put a positive spin on it. They can find something else to target with Nikita. Other networks have more than one demo they attract. The CW should join them.

    Also, the only reason they didn't order more scripts/episodes yet was because Nikita hadn't aired for a third time. That happened on Thursday afternoon, so don't try using that as a reason to legitimize your argument.

    I think these "articles" from Spoiler TV are pretty lame and I wish there was an option not to have to see them on my feeds. They're not spoilers or news; just an opinion...and not even an expert opinion at that. I'm also so tired of the inane polls and commentary. I just want the spoilers.

    This IS A REALLY STUPID ARTICLE!!! Because
    1) Supernatural last year was only up 0.1-0.2 in women every episodes!!
    2) cw target??? 18-49 are the most important target for advertisment for EVERY network, and then for cw is important women too, but it's not only women for the results, otherwise both supernatural and smallville will be dead years ago
    3) melrose place get a full season with awful ratings last year in all the demos, cw will cancel NIKITA IN EPISODE 3???
    4) Episode one in women nikita was at 1.8, in episode two at 1.5, yesterday grey's premierè was strong also in women i guess so it's obvious that nikita was down a bit! But it could easily grow next week or the following weeks
    5) CW ordered Scripts not EPISODES!! Last year they ordered a full season for VD after Melrose place and OTH , but it was the n.1 Show of the network
    6) Dawn Ostroff before Nikita debut said that the show could be the way for cw to open to all the audience, se didn't expect results like 90210 or GG but, like Supernatural and Smallville.

    SO FOR THIS 6 REASONS THE ARTICLE IT'S REALLY NONSENSE!!!

    Also it's the only show that got after VD 3 milions and 1.1 in 18-49, every other show was down in that demo.

    Surely The CW are happy that they are reaching a wider audience? The fact that Nikita managed to get over 3 million with competition from Grey's Anatomy and Fringe must prove there is interest in the show even if it is missing its target demo. If this network wants to expand and grow, surely shows like Nikita are what it needs?

    And Supernatural has moved to Fridays this year, it also earns alot in syndication and DVD sales, international sales which are the main reason the CW keeps it, but correct Supernatural is no monster in w 18-34 only slightly higher than Nikita

    CW works differently than the other networks, once again Smallville and Supernatural have plently of season in the can, good syndication , dvd sales and international sales and are on Fridays CW primarily produces them for those profits rather than ratings which is why they get low promotion and Friday night.

    Melrose Place did not get a full season it had 18 episodes and was ultimately cancelled i never said CW would pull Nikita now i think it will at least air all 13 probably more.

    Which is a bad trend it is falling and loosing more than half of VD's w18-34 audience and the competition is not going away,

    so you think that friday for cw is a death night???
    Cw is more than happy for the results of Smallville that obtains the same ratings of other show on friday, and also move supernatural to give space to other new series, melrose place was huge flop like tbl so maybe they want to have more new hit series?!

    They put supernatural on friday because they want to reach an high level on the day when all the networks are weak, and spn has a lot of fans after 5 seasons and the audience of smallville it's quite similar to the one of SPN. This is the real reason. A network can't live only with the target of women 18-49, why all the site talks first for the cw too about 18-49??

    And for the record 90210 last year in march for 10 episodes was really weak in women too, i checked the results and were always at 1.2-1.3 in women 18-49. And it's still on

    Also the competition were stornger because of premierès that always are higher in ratings that other episodes. Grey's will have 5.3 forever? It will surely falls to 4.5-4.0 next week, same for the other show. We'll see if the show it's this HUGE FLOP.

    But it did better in both A18-49 and A18-34, W18-34 was the only demo that Nikita's been beating it, but not anymore. And SPN is a 5 year old show that never, ever targeted W18-34. And when a new, expensive show can't beat an old show in the same time slot, then it's really, really bad.

    Whatever Ostroff expected, she definitely expected better numbers than SPN. They knew why they were keeping SPN in this time slot for so long, after all. They hoped that Nikita might be the show that could replace SPN and hold its own against GA/CSI/Office/Fringe. Looks like it might not be that easy.

    But I do think that they will give it the back-nine.

    Well, according to TVbythenumbers.com, Nikita doubled Supernatural's 50+ demo while every other demo dropped below SPN - I don't think that's what the CW was aiming for...

    Plus the CW isn't Fox. Fox would cancel after 3 episodes but the CW tends to give their shows the best chance they can. Who cares if they didn't hit the target demo when they are getting good ratings for Nikita? The old La Femme has weird info too. The stats said it was watched mostly by older people making over $250k a year.

    If the CW doesn't pickup Nikita for a full season they are stupid.The CW risks losing men when Smallville
    and possabilly Supernatural(i don't put It past them to cancle It when Smallville ends) ends In may.Nikita
    IS their best chance to get some male viewers apart from the Vampire Diaries.

    It had a 2.6 mil and 1.2 like the season finale!!!
    Cw was right to move spn not because it was weak, but because now friday it's a stronger day in 18-49

    Nikita is doing fine and as long as the 18-49 demo is respectable (as opposed to the W18-34 demo they usually pay attention to) the show should be renewed.

    As long as Nikita manages to stay above 2 million like the average CW show, they're gonna get a full season. The Beautiful Life got cancelled because it had ratings around 1 million. Sure, the women ratings could be better but since the CW talked about Nikita broadening their audience, male viewers, they could actually pay more attention to the male demo, who knows! It's the CW.

    The CW is full of idiots in management- LUX is getting killed being up against Glee. Move to to another time slot and it should rebound nicely. Nikita? Hell yeah it appeals to people who like action - it is not a sappy soap. Thursday is always a tough time slot- a solid audience of 3 million is good. The demos at most nets would not matter as long as the numbers are solid. I swear- I really prefer it when a show I like is on cable. You don't need to have nearly as many viewers to be a hit.

    Seriously, already talking about canceling Nikita? This show is awesome; it takes time for people to be interested. Keep Nikita running and if the ratings are like it was for Melrose Place, then cancel. Give these shows a chance at least.

    I would like to point out that Castle didn't do all that great in its first season, but they took a chance and renewed it. Now it's doing pretty good and a lot of people enjoy it. We're 3 episodes in people, don't expect miracles.

    The entire point of green-lighting Nikita was to finally air a show on the CW that expanded beyond their regular target demographic to get people other than W18-34 to watch, so these numbers aren't really that significant at all.

    not a dead night. Friday is a dead night every where on other network but the cw sucks everytime. And sup and small combo on fridays give them the best rating so far. i know only 1 ep but still. beat the goodguys and one other show

    Your women 18-34 demo for America's Next Top Model is incorrect for this week. It had a 1.9 in the preliminary ratings, but then grew to 2.1 in the final ratings.

    this chart is useless because supernatural only premiered at a 1.3 W18-34 and Smallville a 1.0 W-18-34 Target so you may as well call those show flops this target doesn't really matter Networks make Money off The A18-49 Demo that's where they make profit off not W18-34 that's just Dawn Ostroff's Dream Audience doesn't mean she bases all the show's renewal/Cancel decisions off that it means that she wants to get more W18-34 Audiences yes but she still cares about A18-49 for Renewals

    I agree, I usually give a new show 3 trys, like I look at 3 episodes, if It doesn't convince me by the first episode. But Nikita just sux!! By the 2nd episode I was like 4get this, even then I was struggling to watch half of it!! Not even the full hour...it's just really..........boring!!

    Some people, you won't convince even with hard facts, UFO. You can repeat over and over again that it's not about the overall viewership - when it's good, it's just the icing on a demo cake, not the cake itself! - but they just refuse to listen.
