Hope they have a big secretarial budget over at House, because the Fox hit has just cast Murphy Brown—that’s Candice Bergen to you!—as Cuddy’s mother!
The comedy legend’s multi-episode arc, I’ve learned exclusively, will kick off in November. And I’m sure I am far from the only one anticipating fireworks between Mother Cuddy and her new potential son-in-law. (“You hurt my daughter,” I can just hear her saying, “I castrate you.”)
Plus, Bergen’s gig, her first on the tube since Boston Legal closed up shop in 2008, seems likely to give Lisa Edelstein the kind of holy-smoke material that wins Emmys. (Please, please, please, please… ) It probably won’t hurt that Bergen herself already has five of ‘em!

I love it! Look at some recent pictures and yeah they both can work it... but when you think of her as Murphy Brown or the chick in any of the movies you see her in, you can sure say 'wtf, bad casting.' But no, I'm digging it :)
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh are you kidding people? i think they look kind of alike in the face, and not everyone looks like their moms if their parents don't look alike at all.
ReplyDeleteTHIS is something non-Huddy fans can enjoy about the relationship! And who cares if Edelstein and Bergen are totally unfit for the parent-child roles? All I'm worried about is good acting.

ReplyDeleteThis is good casting just for the sheer anticipation of Hugh Laurie/Candice Bergen scenes. I can't bring myself to call it GREAT casting because there's no way you can put Bergen and Edelstein side-by-side and convince me that these two people are related in any way.
