Goodbye Damon. That's got to be the words of yesterday, as another of the bottom half of the brackets favourite characters plummeted out of the competition to Olivia Dunham, keeping 'Fringe's' hopes pushing forward into round 3, and leaving Elena to fight for 'The Vampire Diaries.' Also, it all appeared to be going smoothly for Chuck Bartowski, however a late surge by Liz Lemon saw 'Chuck' leave the competition, and '30 Rock' to cling on in with a very impressive victory. So perhaps two surprising results today, but based on the comments from yesterday's poll, a popular one amongst the people.
Today we have four characters I have to say I know very little about at all. Jack Bauer's defeat came at the hands of River Tam, one of the 'Firefly' crew, and that stands her in good stead against 'NCIS's' only hope for success, in Abby Sciuto. Following tat we have John Locke's defeater, Spike from 'Buffy', certainly to me the biggest shock of round one, and pitting him against Chloe Sullivan, from the ever popular 'Smallville' round these parts is an equally difficult challenge. I can't really comment on these characters, I'm gonna leave the thinking to you and get on with a Fringe Review :) May the best characters win....
Also keep upto date with the competition and/or ask questions by following me on twitter. I'll also post some of my reviews, writing updates & other bits & bobs, more often than not TV and Film based. I'm at: http://twitter.com/AdDHarris

Brackets have been updated.
ReplyDeleteRiver Tam & Chloe
ReplyDeletegotta vote for the hotties altho I don't like any of those shows :P
Ha lol. So shallow ;)
ReplyDeleteSo who have people voted for. I haven't really watch any, barring a bit of NCIS and an episode of Firefly.
ReplyDeleteI went for River Tam. Leaving the other poll to more people in the know :P
Voted for River Tam and Chloe. Would have voted for anyone against Spike who somehow managed to knock John Locke out :(
ReplyDeleteRiver Tam & Chloe Sullivan.
ReplyDeleteNever seen NCIS, but I am about to start Firefly. So for that, River tam gets the vote (:
I despise Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its characters. Chloe Sullivan gets the vote on that one.
Oh crap... Spike vs Chloe?
ReplyDelete:(
Since I've sorta been in love with Chloe for 10 years, I guess I know who I am voting for.
Spike is awesome, but Chloe kept me through the awkward times in Smallville when I couldn't tell what the hell was goin' on with the stupid Lana love fest and the Lex Luthor stuff became a little too convoluted...(O' course things got better over time and it's in good shape now, thankfully!)
Was a big shock was that one! :P
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe Locke got knocked out by him.
ReplyDeleteLiz Lemon is still being shown as being defeated by Chuck.
ReplyDeleteOpps, fat fingers.
ReplyDeleteWhere? :P
ReplyDeleteIt was in the brackets, and Dark has now fixed it.
ReplyDeleteAnd with THAT, I am solidly in the #2 slot, and it looks like I will hold that #2 spot into at least the early parts of Round 3. Of course, I have zero chance of actually *winning*, but being #2 for a while is still sweet ! :)
River! River all the way!
ReplyDeleteAlso got to go with Chloe over Spike, because I honestly can't say who I had a bigger crush on in Smallville during the 4 seasons I watched every week, Chloe or Lana... but I crushed for both something fierce.
River Tam & Chloe!
ReplyDeleteWhat ?????
ReplyDeleteSummer Glau has not 99% of the votes! How is it possible?
NCIS fansites must have found the poll and spread the word.
i gotta just say pitting Spike (james Marsters) and Chloe (Allison mack) is kinda unfair because James gets the advantage since he played Brainiac on the show Chloe is on (Smallville). Its kind of a no win situation in my opinion for Chloe.
ReplyDeletecannot believe that Abby's loosing that much to the other chick :D
ReplyDeleteYou REALLY haven't seen Firefly because you have put an image from Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles for Summer Glau.Lol
ReplyDeleteBut i prefer TSCC to Firefly and Summer Glau playing Cameron was great so it doesn't bother me.
And those pictures are really good.
Here is another picture from Summer Glau :
http://blastr.com/assets_c/2010/09/6summerterminat-thumb-330x348-47700.jpg
definitely SPIKE! james marsters was great in the show
ReplyDeletehahaha. Whoops. It's quite hard to find a decent sized landscape picture of some characters. I rely on google to help me.
ReplyDeleteand today, it failed :P
What an ungraceful word to discribe Summer Glau; she is so graceful and talented.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget she was a ballet dancer:
http://jaynelovesvera.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/summer-glau-ballet-01.jpg
I´m more then surprised about some of the results from this competition... I really wouldn´t have expected some characters to make it and on the other hand a lot of others where I was sure they would succeed, they had to go...
ReplyDeleteanyway... My votes went to Abby and Spike! I hope that Spike will win, he was an absolutely great character in an amazing show.
Don't change anything, that's perfect.
ReplyDeleteTSCC has a cult following too and is a more recent show.
The following is not from me :
"After watching Summer slash her way through Serenity, writer/producer Josh Friedman wrote the part of Cameron with her in mind. Cameron was a Terminator who, in the future, had been reprogrammed to protect teenage John Connor and sent back to the present. Cameron protected her charge—and avoided the wrath of Sarah Connor—with the mono-minded focus of previous Terminators.
But unlike other Terminators, Cameron resembled Allison, a woman who John loved in the future. The show toyed with the concept that Cameron could feel, perhaps from residual memories of Allison, but these glimpses were rare, given Cameron's status as a cybernetic organism."
Her name is River Tam. :P
ReplyDeleteYou should check out Firefly and Serenity to see what all the fuss is about.
Take a break from sci-fact on NCIS and check out some cool sci-fi on Firefly. :D
Caution:Heartbreak Ahead
I guess I've got my hope pinned on Mulder in this now. I had Chuck going a decent distance.
ReplyDeleteI went for Abby and Chloe even though it was hard to pick between her and Spike. But Girl power all the way!!!! Plus Chloe has changed so much as a character over the seasons and i like that about her.
ReplyDeleteAh, crap.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is easy: River Tam. I liked Abby but I loved River and her mix of amusing, heartbreaking, and kickass.
Chloe Sullivan vs Spike is the hard one. I had to vote against Spike. Chloe's come so far since Smallville began, from the pushy, persistent teenager to the strong, capable woman she is today.
...Oh, and I was recently watching the Chloe vs. Lana fight of years ago and her punch is still freaking epic.
That happened??? Absurd!
ReplyDeleteNo power in the 'verse can stop her.
ReplyDeleteI think there was some anti-Lost sentiments going on.
ReplyDeleteCan i just say and Ask where are all the NCIS fans? I mean really, becuase theres no way Abby can have hardly any votes, i mean seriously!!
ReplyDeleteWho are you talking about?
ReplyDeleteMore seriously, you stole that line from me. I will write it on next round...if she wins this one ;)
River and Spike :D
ReplyDeleteSad to see Abby so behind in this poll. Where are my NCIS fans?
ReplyDeleteLoving me some Spike!!!!!! (Does sad, sheepish wave at John Locke.) Forgive me from last week's vote LOST, but Spike was an amazing character and James Marsters is so unappreciated!
ReplyDeleteOh crap! It's Spike's day already?! I thought I had a couple of days before that... Well, my votes went to River and Spike. Never seen Firefly, but my loyalty to Joss Whedon is much greater than the little pieces of NCIS I've seen. And SPIKE! Best character ever. I hope he wins (if he didn't, it would really make Locke look bad after last week...). Though I must say, I hate the picture that was chosen for Spike... he really doesn't look good in brown xD
ReplyDeleteSPIKE and River!!!!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't know where the NCIS fans are? There is no way Abby is really losing that bad to a show I honestly never heard of! Please tell me people are cheating again... PLEASE?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why River Tam is so loved. She spent 12 episodes being part of the furniture, the most non-character in the whole show. She wasn't this kick butt character people rave about except for 2 TV episodes and the movie. That hardly seems enough to spur such loyalty. I have to conclude that people are voting for the show as a whole, Summer Glau as the terminator, or Joss Whedon. All of the other female characters in Firefly were more appealing to me.
ReplyDeleteI strongly disagree. River had few but MOST of the best lines. Try watching it again. For me River and Jayne are my 2 favorite characters, they are also the most colorful.
ReplyDeleteI find it odd that you would think for one second the girl from NCIS could beat River Tam... the fake Summer Glau account that hasn't tweeted for 3 years on twitter has almost as many followers as the other girls real account. She also has the longest lines at every convention she attends... River Tam is now a scifi icon.
If more people felt like you then obviously other Firefly girls would be in the running. Looks like you are a minority opinion.
May the 'verse strike you down for not liking Firefly. Smallville, I can understand, cos it's absolute crap, but Firefly is a must-see!
ReplyDeleteCannot believe that other chick is considered to be in the same league as River Tam.
ReplyDeleteBeing a kickass character doesn't mean the character kicked a lot of ass. She was kickass in a lot of subtle ways. The smallest of scenes can elevate a character to greatness and River would have stolen the show completely if the others actors/characters weren't so damn good.
ReplyDeleteAbby is the heart of NCIS. She is beautiful, brilliant, and big-hearted. Her character has many quirks that make her a lot of fun, but it's her loyalty to her NCIS family that makes her the better character. Not to mention, she's been on the show for years instead of a mere 14 episodes. Her character has greater range and depth than River Tam's.
ReplyDeleteI almost always do have the minority opinion. :-) And I knew Abby would not beat River Tam. I just think she should. NCIS has a large TV following but very little online presence. The curse of CBS? However, I think the convention lines have as much to do with Summer Glau as River Tam.
ReplyDeleteI watched all of Firefly and Serenity once I saw how many people voted for Mal against Castiel. I wanted to see what all the fuss was over. While many of the other characters stuck in my head and seemed well-fleshed out, my overall impression of River was that she talked to herself a lot, hid in a lot of corners, and constantly needed to be babysat by the other characters. I just didn't find her compelling even if her existence drove many of the plot lines. Now Zoe and Wash I could totally get behind and Jayne had me in stitches.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the score, Abby is not.
ReplyDeleteWhen asked, Summer Glau said that fans coming to see her at convention came on par from Firefly and TSCC
ReplyDeleteI agree, I love Abby. She's the heart of NCIS. I loved Firefly and have the season and movie DVD's but never really thought River was a great character. Mal, yes. Can understand why he beat Castiel, but not sure why River is doing so well. I liked Kaylee and Zoe way more. But, that's what makes it fun, right?
ReplyDeleteIt's part of the Summer Glau effect.
ReplyDeleteAs Cameron in Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles, she basically stole the show and was the fans favourite by far.
Abby may be the heart of NCIS but River Tam is the reason why the alliance is chasing the Firefly and his crew.
ReplyDeleteSadly we had not enough time to discover everything about River Tam but she has become an iconic figure among scifi fans. Abby is nice but can you say she is an iconic figure?
Edit : we may have a River Tam vs. Malcolm Reynolds fight in a few days. More fun to come!
Regarding twitter accounts- PauleyP just got her account about 3 months ago compared to River Tam's 3 yrs.
ReplyDeleteSo, what you are saying is you watch NCIS?
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you. I have never met anyone who actually watched that show before. Is it any good? The chick in the picture is really cute and not at all hard to look at.
In all honesty, the first 3 times I was forced to watch NCIS, I hated it. Then I saw an episode that was Abby-centric and fell in love with the show. Abby humanizes Gibbs, gives McGee humor, allows Ziva to show a softer side, and is just plain fun with Tony and Ducky. There is a reason why the Abby-centric shows always get chosen in the Viewers Choice marathons on USA. Abby is quirky and can summed up as a tattooed, brainy goth child who bowls on a league with nuns. Oh and yeah, a lot of guys think she's hot, especially when they get a glimpse of her back tattoo or her Halloween costumes.
ReplyDeleteI feel totally opposite. I like Wash, but the only scene I can even remember where he had any impact on me in Firefly was in the real pilot when he was playing with dinosaurs. River had much more personality than Zoe, who was mostly stoic and most of her short lines were backing up Mal. They were good characters too, but not my favorites.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile River was correcting The Bible, putting the serve on Badger with her Mockney accent, chatting up a baby hamburger, marking a treacherous gold digger for what she is, and stealing a sex offending ninja sociopath's wheels while playing him for a fool, amongst other delightful shenanigans.
I don't like tattoos but she is pretty. Pretty enough to overlook something so minor as a self inflicted scars on a large portion of her epidermis. :D
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look up her imdb and netflix her episodes since I am not a huge cop procedural show fan. Is her arc pretty much self contained? It's mostly a closed ended episode show kinda like Law & Order with minimal ongoing arcs, right?
Could I jump right into the show?
Doh... talking about Firefly has made me want to watch it again.
ReplyDeleteAlso, many people didn't really like Heart of Gold, but River cracked me up when the *ahem "sporting lady" :P was in labor and she says "I wonder who's in there?!". It is the little things along the way that make her character so endearing. Like the scene with Book's hair. :3
Voted for River and Spike. SO HAPPY FOR OLIVIA AND LIZ, YAAAAY. :)
ReplyDeleteAbby-centric shows are pretty much stand alone. Yeah, you can jump in without much confusion. If you are in the US, episodes are shown every weekday on the USA channel.
ReplyDeleteBloodbath in season 3 is Abby-centric and a good showing of the Gibbs-Abby father/daughter relationship. Witchhunt is not Abby-centric but has the Halloween scene with guys ogling Abby. Random on Purpose is on NCIS-LA, but still a great Abby-centered story.
Cookies for the Summer Glau fans and for those who are wondering why she has so many votes ; it's the famous Summer Glau WuShu training for Firefly and Serenity. Enjoy but be careful it's very addictive!

River Tam and Chloe Sullivan
ReplyDeleteI have to say the competition of River Tam vs. Abby is fishy.
ReplyDeleteAdam, would you check it?
Something is not right about the 'Abby vs. Tam', statistically speaking.
ReplyDeleteAdam, please check the River Tam/Aby Sciuto poll. There's something not quite right about it.
ReplyDeleteWe, have it's fine. See my previous comment.
ReplyDeletePlease stop posting the same comment.
ReplyDeleteIt is boring.
ReplyDeleteEverytime one competiton doesn't go the way some people want, they say it must be cheating.
Summer Glau played in Firefly and Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles, two cult shows with a vocal fanbase, she played in Dollhouse (another Joss Whedon show).
She guest-stared in Angel, 4 400, The Big Bang Theory.
She played in several films and TV films.
Though NCIS is a successful serie, Summer Glau doesn't play in the same league as Pauley Perrette.
Hang on DarkUFO!
ReplyDeleteI got your back on the misinformation campaign.
Edit : i love it when it looks like i was right before anyone else.
I agree the conspiracy theories are old. However, it isn't that River Tam is in a different league than Abby. It is that River Tam has more online fans than Abby. Sci Fi/fantasy cult shows seem to have a larger online fan base with fewer people watching it on TV. Crime procedurals seem to have more people watching them on TV but far fewer fans online. It's a toss up that usually has online fans anxiously waiting to see if their show will be renewed and networks desperate to get their TV viewers more into digital content. There's a reason NCIS was the biggest non-reality show on TV last year and yet the cheapest to buy on iTunes.
ReplyDeleteThat is true, considering the number of live viewers from NCIS.
ReplyDeleteGenre shows like scifi have fewer viewers but they are more dedicated, eager to debate on forums.
I would add to the reasons you quote the fact that story-arc are longuer on genre series; it's more difficult to take a serie in the middle of it (that helped to kill TSCC) whereas procedural have more loner episodes.
Heh. Told you guys Spike was awesome. BTW, Dahne, apparently in the Season 8 comic book, he no longer has that pesky little problem he had in Season 7 :)
ReplyDeleteHi. Lucia, can you calm down please? They replied to this four times already. The mods have checked the poll. They didn't see anything wrong with it. Calm down.
ReplyDeleteWhat, are you silly? Of course I'm voting for River and Spike! Let my Joss Whedon loyalties propagate!!
ReplyDelete(ETA) Seriously, though. I've mentioned this in the other polls before. I have been a fan of not just Spike, but James Marsters himself for the last twelve or thirteen years. He puts his whole being into a performance, and from his initial casting as Spike, to his role on Smallville as Braniac, to his role on Caprica as Barnabas Greeley, to even his stint as the voice of The Dresden Files audiobooks, he has given it his all. His role as Spike started a landslide for him, and with all honesty, I have not been the same since.
Not to mention the fact that Spike was, in the end, a very emotional role, not just a comedic/evil/softy one.
As for River Tam, she's just awesome to me. I don't watch NCIS much, but when I do, I watch it for Abby. I love her character, but I hafta go with River in this one.
Exactly. The people who plop down on the couch to watch procedural cop shows are probably older married professionals that don't have time for the internet. My granny watches all those shows religiously... I tend to avoid them like The Plague because I grew up saturated by the genre on her television. Which is probably one of the reasons I like scifi and more fantastical shows.
ReplyDeleteRead: sarcasm.
ReplyDeleteA reply to someone else's post. I could clare less about Abby.
I didn't even see this round. =/
ReplyDeleteaww, Chloe. </3
Why didn't i vote LOL. Well i'm still gonna choose:
ReplyDeleteI vote River because she kicks ass and in a fight to the death she would kick Aby's Ass xx
I vote Spike because he is Badass and hilarious at the same time and chloe, well she's not xx
It's ok I fixed it.
ReplyDeleteI clicked on the wrong update in the Bracket Database when updating the scores.
Should be fixed now.
Sam, Dean, and Castiel are hot. >.>
ReplyDeleteThe River Tam/Abby Sciuto poll seems fishy. Something's not quite right about it. Adam, please check it...
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with it. The poll was picked up and posted on a number of Firefly/Summer Glau fan sites, twitter accounts and Facebook pages.
ReplyDeleteThere is a large fanbase for Summer/Firefly on the net. Same happened in Round 1
Considering the number of people who watch/watched the TV shows, Abby is.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I dunno. I wasn't really paying attention to his random velvet brown coat. Whenever he wears dark colors, my eyes go straight to his face :)
ReplyDelete
