Hey guys, I'm getting this up a little bit earlier than the end of the previous round, as I have a few other things I wanna do but it's looking pretty set that both LOST characters are heading into Round 3, Kate having turned it around against Chandler Bing is quite spectacular fashion, setting up a re-meeting between the show's main romantic couple a lot sooner than it happened on-screen :P Jack fan's were certainly in cruise control and will need to vamp it up to stand a chance in the next round!
Onto today we have some mouth-watering ties, and some which I'm sure 'Supernatural' & 'Vampire Diaries' fans have been salivated at the mouth over for a while, as we have Sam Winchester taking on Elena Gilbert. The two Show finalists pitting wits in Round 3 is going to put a sting in one of these shows tails, and it will be intruiging to see which way it goes. Also we have 'Bones' favourite Seeley Booth pitting war against Cristina Yang from 'Grey's Anatomy.'

ReplyDeleteI have watched half of season 1 and Dean is funny and a cool character but Sam is like weird .. He's like in his own world and he rarely jokes and laughs(like i said i haven't watched season 2,3,4,5 so i don't know if he changed or not)... I guess the word hate is a little too strong so i'd go with dislike or not caring about.

LOL! whoa!! nonononono. Katie, yea, you misunderstood me, lol. I am most assuredly NOT one of those people saying how "bad" S6 is going to be. Personally, I'm trying to talk Friday into getting here faster. Adam understood what I was trying to say though. :) I would truly rather someone catch themselves up on the last 5 seasons, before jumping straight into the 6th one, because SO much would be lost that is significant. I'm glad I scrolled down and read these posts and cleared up this confusion. It's highly amusing in a way because I feel exactly the way you do Katie. I can't stand it when people gripe about a show and they STILL WATCH IT. What's even more hilarious is their inherent belief that they feel the show has gotten off the "wrong track" as they put it. I'd love to hear them tell Kripke that. It would go something like this: Disgruntled Fan: "Hey Kripke, just wanted to let you know that I feel you are steering your own show in the wrong direction. Please tell Ben and Sera that too, even though they've been here from the beginning, S2 and S1 respectively." HA!!! seriously? Guess what...what the creator/writer/producer/director says...goes. Love it or hate it. It's called canon. Fans don't dictate the canon, the show does. They can only either love it and choose to continue watching, or not love it, and stop watching. It's as easy as....

Yes he's addicted to demon blood, but everything he's done he did with good intentions, and yeah that's what the road to hell is paved with, but that's one of the most basic human flaws. And Sam (and Dean) have paid dearly for their good intentions. But Sam saved the world from the apocalypse!!! Elena is a wimp in comparison - sorry if that offends anyone.

I can't even believe some people would have that girl Elena over the adorable and kick ass Sam. No contest here, with the road Sam's gone since the beginning of the show, from that sweet, innocent kid, who just wants to have his normal life, through all his conflicts with John and Dean, all his mistakes and dark moment to the man who invites Lucifer in and is strong enough to control the bastard and jumps into hell just to save the world from Apocalypse he accidentaly started. Gotta love Sammy, he's like the best little brother Dean could dream of and that means hell a lot.

ReplyDeleteWhile I respect that we don't all have the same opinion and that's what makes the world interesting, I can not abide how Elena is getting anywhere near beating Sam, let alone actually doing it. I have watched a few episodes of TVD and the woman was the reason I couldn't watch she was quite possibly the worst actress I've had to witness and i watched Season 1 of Vanessa in Gossip Girl, she is just simpering and whiny. Sam Winchester remains tv's greatest character for me, there isn't even a competition but clearly the TVD fans are out in droves.

ReplyDeleteIs funny to see how hard people try to beat SPN characters, even if they're not TVD fans. That was clear when you noticed that the most voted polls included Supernatural characters. But this not surprise me, SPN is one of the show's with a very strong fans base without need to be in a big Network, that's why people hate us.

Sam Winchester crossed a lot of different situations in all these years. First he was just a boy who wanted to have a normal life, married with Jess, have a family and be a professional, but then he turned in a revenger for Jess's death, he crossed for different emotional stages like his psychic powers that he never asked, he had to handle Dean's death, he became an addicted to demon's blood, was possessed by demons and by Lucifer and finally he sacrificed himself for Dean and for the rest the world to save it from the Apocalypse.
And a plus, who doesn't want to have a brother who dies for you?

I think thats hilarious or more just ironic considering how many times in the show he's died and come back. Sam definately deserves to win this though and is losing just because haters are hating Supernatural for winning the best show competition when it is on such a small network. I watch both SPN and TVD and can honestly say that between both of the characters Sam is better written and acted than Elaina, even though I like her to.

In the way, they faced monsters, ghosts, demons, urban legends, the death itself. Today is one of the best hits from CW and goes to a sixth season starting this friday (yeah finally).

ReplyDeleteSupernatural is essentially the story of two brothers. When Dean was 4 and Sam was 6 months, their mother was killed by a demon. Determined to get revenge, their father learned how to kill supernatural beings and taught them how also. Living an unconventional lifestyle of constant moving, Dean grew up dedicated to his father's profession while Sam just longed for normalcy. Eventually, Sam left to go to college, causing his father to disown him. Two (or four depending on who you talk to) years later, Dean reconnects with his brother because his father is missing. Sam agrees to help his brother find their father for one weekend, provided he will be back at Stanford that Monday to interview for law school. This is the premise that sets up the pilot episode.
ReplyDeleteI hope you try it. It has a mixture of heart stopping action, heartfelt drama, gore/suspense, and snarky comedy. Supernatural truly has something for everyone and once you get pulled into the Winchester saga it is difficult to let go.
Glad to hear it! I think the best thing about this contest is how many new people are trying Supernatural. I hope you like it. There really is no other show like it on tv in my opinion and there is no better brother relationship.

Honestly though, we have talked about so many parts of Supernatural on these comments in the last 2 months that I would not be surprised if people who had never seen an episode could write a synopsis of it. We Supernatural fans may be small in number, but we are awful chatty about our show. :-)
ReplyDeleteFirefly fans managed it... It is called organization. Firefly and Star Trek have kept a pretty rabid fan base for years after their shows were over. X-Files has that type of fan base also... they just aren't looking at Spoilers. So, someone who is a fan and knows some of the boards should post early about the poll giving members some time to react.
ReplyDeleteI am a big Firefly and Jericho fan. If I get the message about a poll, I will be there, no questions asked... however, I don't check every day... Now, unfortunately, if a Firefly character is up against Sam or Dean, I gotta pick Supernatural... but when Castiel was up against Captain Reynolds, I really had to think for a while. Mal is a fabulous character, but he only had 14 episodes and a movie... Castiel is getting ready to start his 3rd season, but isn't a principle character... Still had to go for Castiel... but if he was skunking the Captain I would have gone for the Captain. You can organize if you are serious and start before the polls do. There is only one day where your poll is active. Don't wait until the last minute.
In all fairness, I believe that it if you hate characters you should vote against them. It is just as valid a reason to vote as liking someone. I would hope people don't hate Sam, but everyone should vote how they honestly feel. I really appreciate when people say they love a show but didn't vote for a character on that show because they thought someone else was better. It reminds me that this is the Favorite Character contest and not Best Show - Part 2.

1) the score is almost the same as in the second Sam vs Gibbs match-up : another proof that the previous votes were legitimate. Sam has not much support that's all. (did i mentioned that Gibb's fans were fooled in the process?)
2) A lot of Dean fans don't like Sam or Castiel; Deans fans could have easely saved them but they deliberately prefered not to do it.

ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I watched the first 7 episodes of VD (ha, fitting acronym) and couldn't stand it. The acting, the awful Twilight-esque feel to it. People complain that VD came first, when it didn't. The source material came first, but when it comes to aesthetics, and tone and all that -- Vampire Diaries is a TV version of Twilight.
Mixed with Glee (no particular reason, it's just aimed at the same bunch of people)
Someone let Joss Whedon deal with vampire shows again :(
Just to help you with the transition, Supernatural actually came out on The WB...and The CW just assimilated it a year after. So, it's not in league with other shows like Gossip Girl, 90210 or Hellcats, it's from the WB :)

ReplyDeleteI really don't understand why people assume everyone hates Supernatural because a different character is winning. The Vampire Diaries has been a massive hit, based on a series of books with a fanbase already built in. It's not unreasonable that people vote for Elena.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the attitude that JUST one season of a character doesn't match up to FIVE seasons is ridiculous and redundant. Some of the most beloved characters of all time actually come from movies, in which they only have around two hours of screentime. The amount of screentime does not equal BEST character.
Don't get me wrong, I love Supernatural. It's one of my favourite shows. But when I think of Supernatural, I think of Dean. Sam has always been a bit of a whiny bitch, to be honest, and although his character is integral to the show, I really don't think it's noteworthy.
Saying that, I don't think Elena's character is all that great either.

I never knew there were so many SPN fans that don't like Sam enough to not want to take 2 seconds out of their day and click a buttun.

I may be biased, but I'd thoroughly recommend it. It has everything. Humour, drama, a lot of blood, romance (but nothing too twilight), and the dynamic between the two lead actors is brilliant. They have great chemistry and work so well off each other.

ReplyDeleteBeing a fan of "The Vampire Diaries" doesn't equal being a fan of "Twilight." The two, although similar in premise, are vastly different. Especially considering one author of the book series did their research on what vampires actually are and one didn't. Whether you like the show or not, your ignorance only further destroys your little argument there.

Whether it be vampires, zombies, ghosts, witches, space explorations, etc etc. TV is a business and they cater for the masses. Supernatural is a great show, and far superior than TVD in my opinion, but the character of Sam is pretty much on par with Elena. Both whiny, clingy, bitches.
I agree. I mean come on, its just not necessary to hit the F5 button every 5 seconds. That's ridiculous. Refreshing once a minute will do just fine.

ReplyDeleteWhat constitutes a good show is largely subjective, so I don't think it's fair to badmouth TVD fans just because they like TVD and are voting for Elena. If Sam is losing it's because not enough Supernatural fans are voting for Sam. Not because more TVD fans are voting for Elena.

ReplyDeleteBooth and Sam. Booth is one of my favorite characters because of his loyalty, his honor, and the fact that he is such a great father. In fact, I don't think anyone on this list compares in just being a great person. He's a true hero, without the antihero traits that are passing as heroes these days. However, he is still a complex character with a lot of depth.
ReplyDeleteSam is another deeply complex character. He has faced more issues than the casts of Gossip Girl and 90210 combined and has still managed to save the world many times over. From being the deeply misunderstood oddball in the family for wanting a normal life to seeking vengeance after watching his girlfriend fry, Sam had complexity in the first episode. Add in guilt/grief over a parent's death, learning your mother doomed you before your birth, trying to deal with psychic abilities when you were raised to kill the paranormal, losing the brother who raised you, betrayal by your closest friend/lover, drug addiction, and finding out you are destined to help Satan, and then fighting Satan to stop the apocalypse should earn anyone a space on this list.
As far as Elena goes, I would have voted against her no matter who she was going up against. I watched season 1 and in not one episode did I ever like or feel for Elena. To me, she is Joey Potter - part 2. A character whose primary goal is to spread the angst, think she is always right, make decisions for others without consulting them, and of course, ratchet up the tension in a love triangle. Take away the love triangle and I don't think this character could stand on her own.
I´m also a Dean girl, but I voted for Sam of course... Don´t know but your post are getting a little boring... you just repeat yourself!

ReplyDeleteIt may also be that more people vote when they think it will be close. If you know your character is blowing someone else out of the water, you don't have quite the incentive to vote. If it's close or you think your character may get beat, you have more incentive to vote. I truly believe that there is an anti-SPN portion of voters, but I don't think there is a conspiracy.

ReplyDeleteI have watched every episode of VD season 1 and I have read all of the Twilight books (what can I say, it's my job) and while I can't stand either of them, VD is no Twilight. It seems to have a coherent plot and an overarching mythology. Twilight was hastily put together at the end in a way that made no sense. Yes, VD is cashing in on the vampire craze, but all genre shows can be accused of the same thing. Even SPN is having at least one vampire episode this season where they are making fun of Twilight. That's cashing in on the same thing.

ReplyDeleteActually I've seen it go both ways and neither was the high ground. Neither character is anything without the other and neither fan side is superior to the other. I think you are talking about a very, very small minority of fans and both sides ruin Supernatural's reputation when they take it to a non-SPN site. You can fight with your family but you don't take your dirty laundry out for public view.
ReplyDeleteYou are dissing a lot of fans right now. From what I've seen on this site, we care more about the show than the individual people in the show. We may each like a different character best but we pull together and nobody has slammed either of them. That's what I like about this site. Neither group thinks the other is better and I hope that it continues to stay this way. By highlighting the infighting on other sites, you are lessening the chance that new people will watch Supernatural (that whole stereotype that it is a bunch of crazy teen fans). The whole point of having this contest is to be able to talk about your favorite shows and hopefully get new people to watch. We've been pretty successful so far. Let's not let what happens on less mature sites ruin our chance of winning more fans here.
