Mulder vs. Sun is one of the hardest choices I ever had to make, as they are both my favourite characters on my two favourite shows. Yikes! Tough decisions... I ended up going with Sun. There's never been a character like her on mainstream American television and it will be a long time before we see another.

ReplyDeleteI loved picking out all of the cool throw backs to yesteryear... I especially liked the spinning drink and the cheesy lipstick on the napkin... The slow move to electrocute Dean was hilarious... especially with the Liederhosen (however that is spelled)....

Fox Mulder! Hands down. I haven't even watched LOST - well a few episodes just to see what it was but gave up on it - so I don't even know of Sun Hwa Kwon. Whereas Mulder and XF has always been my very fave male TV character and very fave TV show.

ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to Dean or Veronica, Veronica was a great character, but most people came to the show too late to save her she went on to be a voice in the show where a girl talks about who is doing what & where well she was the mysterious voice and is now on the show. She was a great character with depth. but Dean is DEAN! the brother who gave up his whole life to raise his brother, and will drop anything on a moments notice (except maybe a Bacon Cheeseburger) to Help someone. Have you seen the man cry! Just watch the show and you will see why Dean defines the word AWESOME! So yeah, I voted for Dean! the best actor on TV!!!
I have seen Dean cry, eat a bacon cheeseburger, load a shotgun, chant an exorcism, and gargle three times, and in each performance he exudes hotness.
ReplyDeleteSame fans equal the same battles, unfortunately. At least we know that those shows are as passionate about their characters as we are about ours. It should be fun albeit I may not have any nails left after this thing ends. Here's hoping we get great dialogue in the comments from both sides instead of a running commentary of just one.

Don't you love how many comments this round got and how few today's is getting? I guess because it is all LOST today and not a significant battle among them. I'm gearing up for the fabulous Fiona to lose to LOST's Jack tomorrow. (sniffling already) We do need a better turn out for Sam to beat Elena, but the real battle will come when/if Sam goes up against Jack. I don't think Fiona, Chandler, or Kate has a prayer to beat him and he has a real chance to win the whole thing.

ReplyDeleteThat scarecrow is still one of the scariest monsters I have seen on any television show to date. I don't know why it creeped me out so bad... but it did!
ReplyDeleteBugs, then Route 666 are my least favorite episodes. At least Route 666 had some funny lines to chew on while you were watching the horrendous plot. I couldn't find anything redeeming about Bugs. Might be because I am terrified of spiders though. Watching Tarantulas the Deadly Cargo at 8 years-old is not a brilliant idea. :-)
ReplyDeleteKaylee is sort of like Abby for Mal, but there is no way Gibbs would ever make fun of Abby and hurt her feelings like Mal does to Kaylee. Just finished watching Serenity and I hate who died. (Don't want to give away any spoilers). Urgh! But I am glad that Kaylee ended up happy.
ReplyDeleteFor me it was the cases and the music that set Cold Case apart. I liked the characters but it was the glimpses into history that caught me.
ReplyDeleteJust stick with the first few years. After Mulder left and especially after Scully left, there wasn't much to keep it together. When Chris Carter said the "truth is out there"., he lied.

ReplyDeleteI liked Bugs the first time through... I just wasn't too comfortable with a racist truck... Huh? I guess the truck was really possessed... but it was just soooooo wrong somehow. We did have the Impala taken over briefly by the Woman in White, but the truck itself seemed to be the embodiment of the ghost and it just didn't sit right with me. But, I still watch it over and over again because the worst episode of Supernatural is still better than most of the other stuff out there. In My Opinion of course...
ReplyDeleteKaylee is the Abby for Mal... There's no power in the verse can make Kaylee not smile. War Stories is another classic where you really get to see what Mal is made of... But, objects in space is my favorite from the series... But, the movie is pure perfection.... I hate Westerns with a passion (with a few notable exceptions like Support your Local Sheriff), but the quirkiness of Cowboys in space at the edge of the Black just appeals to me.

ReplyDeleteI never watched Cold Case... Was there a 'special' character there you liked? I have tried most of the CSIs and the only thing like that I have liked is NCIS. I don't really count Numb3rs as a crime scene investigation show (although it really is); Numb3rs is different for me... I like the nerds on most shows... Especially if they have something special about them or are especially sweet. It doesn't hurt if they have floppy hair :-)

I liked Monster Movie because it was different and we had a carefree Dean for a change. Plus I liked Jaime and the references to classic movies. I watched a lot of classics in college and it brought me back to that place. I loved, "You ever think that maybe you're lonely because you kill people." Plus, the whole bit with the Big Bite Pizza guy - I was rolling. May be the funniest thing I've ever seen on SPN. "I have a coupon" in that fake Dracula-voice - I was hysterical.
ReplyDeleteI agree totally, although I haven't seen much of X-Files (I was 1 when it started xD) and 9 seasons just seems like a lot to commit to. I want to watch it but it will probably be in bits and pieces over time.
ReplyDeleteStill do not like River but Mal is kind of growing on me. He reminds me of Gibbs from NCIS, except he doesn't have an Abby to humanize him right away. Wash is still my favorite and I really like Kaylee. The show is a lot funnier than I thought it would be and I loved how they incorporated the old with new technology. The pool table scene was awesome. I don't like westerns though and that distracted me. I think if Firefly had continued I would have watched it as I came across it, but I don't think it would have been appointment TV for me. Of course, it really didn't have a chance to truly connect me since it had such a short run.
ReplyDeleteIt was Don from Numbers for me. I have a thing for older brothers who take care of their younger brothers, especially when those younger brothers are special. The people here mourn the loss of LOST but for me it is Numbers and Cold Case.
ReplyDeleteLOL. I don't see the X-Files and Supernatural as the same although I know a lot of people do. Mulder is iconic and one of the first characters to get me into genre TV. Mulder was all about the mystery with some heartfelt drama on the side and a messed up relationship. Dean is all about the family with some massive action on the side and a lifetime of messed up relationships. They are almost the flip of each other to me and I love both characters.

ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you. Honestly, I think both are happening. More and more fans are finding out about these SpoilerTV contests, but I can also imagine there are a bunch of fans that didn't get to see their favorite show win BSE and they are determined to get their favorite characters through. I'd be doing the same thing...maybe. Actually I think I'd end up voting against only the shows that I loathed, and just leaving the rest to be fought over their respective fandoms.

ReplyDeleteThey hid a lot about River because the mystery was supposed to last for years. They wrapped in up really well in the movie, Serenity. The first time through I thought Mal was mean and heartless... but by Out of Gas, I was loving him. Now, it also depends on the order you are watching the episodes. I feel that a big reason the series failed was because they aired the episodes out of order. The first episode is supposed to be Serenity... it is listed on IMDb as episode 11... It gives a brief background for Mal and Zoe during the war and properly introduces River and the doctor... and everybody I know loves Jayne (although they don't trust him)... He has some of the best one liners :-) Note: Wash (the pilot) is my personal favorite.... When he is playing with the dinosaurs, he just stole my heart :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's funny because that is what I would have said about Mulder. He was a unique character in TV. Other shows have tried to be the X-Files, but they never had the cache Mulder had.
ReplyDeleteVeronica is more than just a detective. She is dedicated, snarky, and smart. While she sometimes makes bad decisions, she always does it with a good heart. I like Veronica Mars. That being said, I do not believe for a minute that all 2,000 of her votes are because people genuinely like her more than Dean. In fact, I would say that, unlike you, many people will vote for her who have never seen the show. It's not like the rest of us haven't voted against a character either. For SPN it's harder because people aren't voting against the character as much as the show. Of course, some people are voting for Veronica Mars, but my guess is that she wouldn't have or need as many votes if she weren't going against Dean Winchester, considering she has more votes now than her entire match had last time. That, I believe is the anti-SPN vote. BTW I would vote for Veronica over most of the people still in this contest.

Still, for right now, I have completely backwards taste from everyone else here because I like all the female characters except River Tam. She just annoys me. I also don't understand all the Mal love because that pilot is made of awesome and the preacher and doctor are good too. I even like Jayne better than Mal because he is so unabashedly psychopathic. He makes me laugh. Have to see the rest of the show and maybe Mal and River will grow on me.

ReplyDeleteHow are you liking Firefly? That was my big TV obsession before I found Supernatural... Heroes held my attention for the first season, but I maintained my Firefly obsession all the way through... Once I found Supernatural, everything else went on the back burner. I still watch other television shows (like Chuck, Closer, and Eureka), but nothing else comes close!

I don't know. I was definitely able to stop during the Bugs episode. Ugh on sooo many levels. Good thing it followed with Asylum, Scarecrow, and Faith. If it had gone Bugs to Home to Route 666 I might not be on this site right now. :-) Still the worst of SPN is usually better than many shows' best episodes. Gotta love the Winchesters!

X-Files is my second favorite show, only to LOST... but my favorite thing about X-Files was always Mulder and Scully and their amazing chemistry and dichotomy (SOOOO PISSED THAT SCULLY DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT PAST ROUND 1!!!!). If it were Locke, Ben, Juliet, or Desmond though... this one would more likely go to the LOST character... But I'm gonna have to go for Mulder this time. I don't watch either of the other 2 shows, so i'm just voting Veronica Mars randomly.

So theres mine for today. Two characters from two very similiar-ish shows.
They did have a male vs male and female vs female system in the first round (except for one, but that was because they had to get rid of one character and they just brought in the one with the next highest votes) but then after that, it starts to mix. I think it's better this way. We're looking for the best overall character, not the best female and the best male. (although it would have made my decision in Dean vs Veronica a lot easier)
ReplyDeleteI used to turn my nose up at all of the Veronica Mars fans... but that was before I saw the show. It definitely wasn't the teeny bopper show that I had envisioned from the promos. Veronica is one smart cookie... But, Dean is Dean after all. The only characters that can hold a candle to Dean in my Book are Sam, Captain Malcolm Reynolds, and River Tam. I don't want to pick among those 4. Oh yeah, and Mulder is a gimme (even though I am not a fan of X-files, I do appreciate its place in the genre).

ReplyDeleteI don't mean to undermine your vote. I know you are passionate about Veronica Mars and I'm glad. It gives us a different perspective, because you know SPN tends to run the comments. I am sure others are just as passionate about Veronica as you are because she is an awesome character. What I like best about her is her relationship with her dad and the way she always seems to handle whatever is thrown at her. I also like her sense of humor. She and Dean are alike in many ways and she is one of the few teenage female characters on TV I respect.

ReplyDeleteRemember season 1, episode 1 of Spn? Two Feds cross Sam and Dean's path on that bridge and Dean greets them with, "Mulder, Scully..." ? Lol. Talk about homage. Everyone knows Mulder and Scully!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite female character is River Tam, but Veronica is right up there for me... I tend to prefer characters that have that little bit of something extra... kind of like Chuck (from Chuck) or Charlie from Numb3rs... Veronica had that for me.
ReplyDeleteI realize that there will always be a group of people who vote against rather than for, and I realize there's a rising backlash for SPN lately, but it really annoys me to see people claim that someone is doing well just because of that. I'd like to think that maybe VM fans are voting as well...I mean Supernatural didn't start off with gigantic amounts of votes in that first competition, no one even expected it to go very far, especially paired with XF and Lost, so why is it hard to believe that maybe more than just a few fanbases have gotten their act together on this one? I'm not naive and I realize the situation but c'mon, I feel like my vote is being underrated over here. Instead of "oh wow, some fans showed up to maybe give some support" it's an automatic "oh, Veronica is gaining, must be some SPN haters." Get what I mean?

ReplyDelete...This post is just ridiculous. You've never seen Veronica Mars obviously. Cause if you had, you'd see she wasn't just some detective girl, so much happened to her--I've never felt so much for a character. (comparatively I have felt much for the neverending strife of the Winchesters, but still, Veronica's issues hit home a little harder for me) And for you to blame it on the anti-SPN people, that's also ridiculous: Ih Supernatural is my favorite television show, but Veronica is my favorite character btwn her and Dean. I'm not saying that it's impossible there's an anti-SPN movement or whatever, but don't forget the presence of the Veronica Mars fandom is relatively strong as well, one would even go to say through the fact people are STILL talking about a movie after the abrupt cancellation almost 4 years ago, it's just as dedicated as Firefly's or SPN's fanbase.

I voted for Mulder too. X-files was a good, original, cult show. I love cult shows. Makes me wonder why I never caught the Firefly bug. Boy I loved Serenity though.

Yep, seems that the SPN haters are waking up. But Dean just cannot lose to some detective girl, no matter how great she is, that would be just riddiculous. So don't take anything for granted, Dean supporters, he still needs new votes!!

ReplyDeleteI just got into SPN in june 2010. so far I LIKE WHAT I SEE!! Hot guys (bad boy dean and sammy) great addicting story lines that you just cant leave alone. I have asked for all 5 seasons on dvd so that i can get all the background and get up to date on whats going on. From what I have seen so far...absolutely awesome show!!!
