2010 Character Competition - Jack Shephard vs. Kate Austen - Round 3.3 - Day 19

29 Sept 2010

Our first all LOST tie of Round 3 is completed, with Benjamin Linus making it into the quarter finals, setting up a mouth watering tie with Fox Mulder for a place in the semi finals. So the quarter finals are beginning to take shape, and in mouth watering fashion. :) Who will win today? I can't say for certain, but on paper out of the LOST's two main characters, I would think Jack goes in a the favorite. But anything is possible here, and there's no denying that a match up between LOST's main romance, one of whom opened & closed the phenomenon that was LOST is a real exciting tie. Can Kate upset the odds. Of course she can. I'm excited to see which way it goes. It's Jack Shephard vs. Kate Austen. One more character from the show can make the Quarter Finals. Which will it be. Let the the battle commence....

Also keep upto date with the competition and/or ask questions by following me on twitter. I'll also post some of my reviews, writing updates & other bits & bobs, more often than not TV and Film based. I'm at: http://twitter.com/AdDHarris

Don't forget to keep following your bracket if you entered the competition at http://www.dawgsled.com/darkufo/welcome.asp

All that's left to do folks....is vote :)

  1. Sorry I meant Sawyer... I don't know how I typed Jack... Probably because it is my son's name...

  2. Jack is back :) and god is he hot

  3. Love them both...but Jack is my choice! :)

  4. voted kate. just for the hate.

  5. she lost to daniel faraday
but yeah, still crazy how whacked out these things have all been
    especially locke losing!

  6. We should have been more organised and started a conspiracy against Mulder! Maybe then Dean would have gotten through (though, I do love Mulder).

Or, wait... isn't there a conspiracy that Dean fans were voting against Sam? Or that Lost fans were voting against Supernatural? Or...

    Man, too many conspiracies!

    ReplyDelete
  7. So you don't like either one (Jack included).

But you like Jack and Locke (Jack included).

    I'm confused by this contradiction.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Who cares? Sorry, I just don't like either one... We could take those same characters and plunk them down into any drama and they would blend.... Jack and Locke are more interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jack is back :D
    Go Jack!

  10. I didn't need Kate from LOST to understand there's both light and dark within people. I got that from an early age.

The reason I dislike Kate is because it seemed her Flashback stories never really had a plan. They were just there to try and piece together why she is a badass... but ultimately failed.

Saying that, I actually didn't mind Kate all that much when she was on the Island. It was the flashbacks, flashforwards, and flash-sideways I found completely pointless. And when they make up her past, future, and pergatory... it doesn't say all that much for her character.

    ReplyDelete
  11. FLASHBACK.

"Ooh, toy plane... this makes me badass somehow."

    ReplyDelete
  12. Epic couple had to tie <3 lol! I can't pick!

"Tell me I'm gonna see you again..."

    *Insert epic kiss*

    "I love you"

    "I love YOU"

    *thuds*

  14. Jack Shephard (LOST) 50% (2,123 votes)
Kate Austen (LOST) 50% (2,123 votes)

    Crazy.

  15. Hey! a Lost quote :D

    ReplyDelete
  16. couldn't agree more.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Or, LOST at all.

    Kate was awful.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Meh.

As in life, not everything can go the way you want it to.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think the reason why they're voting for Kate is because they are thinking she's more hotter than Jack than the acting perspective

I see a lot more people are interested in the girls more on TV shows in the past year than guys which is ridiculous

    ReplyDelete
  20. Good gravy! Kate is still winning. In fact, she's expanded her lead. If she wins, I'm guessing this is a huge bracket buster for a lot of people. This is too funny. :D

    ReplyDelete
  21. why is Kate leading?? absurd.

    ReplyDelete
  22. couldn't agree anymore...perfect summary of this year's character competition so far.....I mean Kate just losing to Miles strome on DARKUFO...and here she is winning against Jack of all people.... John Locke losing to Spike from buffy....the competition ended for me the moment John Locke lost....jeez....

    ReplyDelete
  23. another tough one, but I had to go with Jack. Loved Kate's redemption though :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sorry to say it, but this doesn't seem like much of a competition anymore. A lot of the favourites are gone just because fans of other shows are voting against the popular characters in other shows just so they don't make it later into the competition. As a result we're going to end up with like a Liz Lemon vs. Seeley Booth final. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. lol..point proven...It is a conspiracy...Damn, Jack is losing this......Please those who dont watch, don't vote...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Considering Kate's quick exit (against Miles of all people) on Dark UFO's Character Cup, this is crazy. My bracket is now officially over.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Here are a few Lost character face-offs that would be interesting:

    Kate vs. Sawyer
    Jack vs. Locke
    Locke vs. Ben

    ReplyDelete
  28. Because Jack insisted on getting all the castaways off the island, many of them died when the freighter blew up (as far as we know). Remember that Daniel had ferried several groups to the freighter prior to the explosion. Jack also insisted on moving to the caves, splitting up the group when he should have been keeping them unified. His greatest quality was also his worst flaw: stubbornness. And while in the end, he was the hero that saved the island, he was only able to do that because his stubbornness subsided. His actions and decisions did cause many people to die, including Locke (because Jack refused to listen to Locke) and Juliet to name just two.

I don't understand why so many people dislike Kate. She's one of the more interesting characters because she has many shades of gray in the scale of good/evil. She's the first character through whom we begin to understand that there is both light and dark within all people.

    ReplyDelete
  29. haha oh man...Kate winning to Jack let me laugh just a little more!

For everyone that doesn't watch Lost, let me tell you that Kate is usually the most hated character on the show, especially at DarkUFO. Jack was a little hated too but after the season finale he was like everyone's favorite. So something is not right here :(

    ReplyDelete
  30. How the hell is Kate winning?

I mean...really?? Evangeline Lilly is pretty damn great, but Kate was never one of the strong characters. The way they wrote her episodes most of the time just made me not care and often cringe at Kate-centric episodes. She redeemed herself towards the end, but she easily loses against Jack.

Jack is amazing and one of my favorite characters on TV. Plus the last shot of the show with Vincent was epic. Kate - not even close. If she was up against Nikki/Paolo/Zoe and was winning, I would understand.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Maybe it's a conspiracy. The Firefly fans know Kate would be easier to pick off. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ahh, you've got me there. I knew I'd forgotten something. But still, his leadership to character deaths ratio isn't bad in comparison to many of the other characters in leadership positions on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  33. lol..I think those who dont watch Lost are voting for Kate just for the fun of it...Still can't believe Jack will eventually lose at this rate...

    ReplyDelete
  34. i'm surprised it's so close. i voted jack

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't like either of them, to be honest ... but I dislike Kate more. So, I guess, Jack it is.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I find it hard how you didn't like Jack (especially in season 6) and liked LOST>

    ReplyDelete
  37. can't decide because I didn't like either of them lol

    ReplyDelete
  38. I voted Jack.

He's my favorite Character on the show. And he had the perfect ending :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks Adam.

    Brackets are updated.

    Voted Jack as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. So did I. But Jack redeemed himself in the end for me because he finally believed Locke, and even defended him.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Voted for Jack, who surely is going to be the winner of this.

Anyone betting against a Jack Shephard v Elena Gilbert Quarter Final?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Kate is toast...Jack is the man and Kate is...well, Kate. I don't dislike Kate, but the internet does...haha

    ReplyDelete
  43. Voted for Jack :) My favorite LOST character!

    ReplyDelete
  44. how has the remaining lost characters been drawn against each other......

    ReplyDelete
  45. I voted for Jack. I really liked Kate but she can't compete with Lost's lead character. The luck of the draw is not with Kate Austen this round.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Exactly. If LOST didn't have both characters, the show would have failed. Anyone who says differently is foolish.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Jack, though it was once again a tough vote. Kate was such a great character, then they screwed her up, then they made her awesome again. Kate at her best was an amazing female character like we'd never seen!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jack sucks. Lame shouting idiot who lead everyone into their death. Plus his flashbacks/forwards were always the most boring. Kate it is.

    ReplyDelete

Just a little tidbit for all you non-Lost fans. Darkufo (Lost fan site) is doing this same competition but with 64 LOST characters and Kate didn't get out of the second round. She lost to Danial Faraday. This means Kate has no chance

*Edit* Well as of right now she's actually winning, I'm truly shocked.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nope.
Anyone betting against a Fox Mulder vs. Elena Gilbert Semi Final?

    ReplyDelete
  51. We'll see...

    ReplyDelete
  52. I totally agree, the reason why people hate her so much, in my opinion, had nothing to do with the character herself but the way they wrote her in later seasons. She had so much potential until they just went crazy around the middle of season three and lost touch with the essence they'd been building on. Season five was the worst for her, like, that wasn't even the character of Kate at all--it was Evangeline Lilly still doing a brilliant job, it looked like her and sounded like her but it wasn't Kate.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Well, another difficult choice. They were both kinda annoying for me ;) Kate with her ongoing indecision who she wants to be with and Jack "The Hero" with his "I'll save them all" stuff ;)
But I voted Jack because he was more meaningful character and, surprisingly, I even liked him in the last season.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yeah but, nobody's said anything about "the show shouldn't have Jack."

It IS okay to understand that a character is necessary but still not particularly like them. I didn't like 80% of the Lost cast but still enjoyed the show. I don't like Sam Winchester but couldn't watch Supernatural if he left.

    ReplyDelete
  55. It's a SpoilerTV conspiracy!!11eleventy1

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think it had more to do with her ever-increasingly lame flashbacks, right from the very beginning. A toy plane? Seriously?

When Kate was on the Island, she was alright. When they did her flashbacks, flashfowards, and flash-sideways, they just tried to make the character more awesome/badass than she actually was. It didn't work.

    ReplyDelete
  57. But Daniel Faraday was badass.

    ReplyDelete
  58. LMAO Poor Jaters, they have to choose only one of them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Tell me who Jack's leadership killed?
Locke's leadership got Boone killed, Eko nearly killed, and him giving the gun to Ana Lucia got her and Libby killed.
Sawyer trying to take charge got Jin, Sun, and Sayid killed, while if he'd listened to Jack, they'd poosibly have lived through the submarine.
But I don't recall any instances where Jack's leadership got anybody killed. Sure, he yelled a lot, but he made a good leader.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Interesting. Kate is getting much more votes than Jack atm. At this rate she will be ahead in an hour or so!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jack, of course!
But Jack wouldn't mind being beaten by Kate :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. most of people who voted Kate definitely did not watch season 6 of LOST.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The whole toy airplane flashback was admittedly less than believable. In the flash forwards, Kate has become a mother, which is why she is so different from who she was on the island. The trouble is that we didn't see her make the transition. One minute she says she's not good with babies and she won't even hold Aaron and the next minute she's his loving mother. I agree, it wasn't well executed. Still, I don't think this is reason enough for so many fans of the show to detest her.

All of the characters are better people on the island, which is partially the point of the show. The biggest issue I always had with Kate was why she wanted to get off the island at all. Besides Locke and Rose, she has the single best reason to stay. It doesn't add up that she wants to get off the island so badly, especially so badly that she'd con Sun into poisoning one of the other castaways.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I loved Locke & Jack. I always believed LOST was at it's best in Locke/Jack Scenes.
'Exodus' with the discussion on their way to the hatch, in the hatch in 'Orientation', the end of 'Through the Looking Glass.' 'The Life & Death of Jeremy Bentham' in the hospital. The list is endless.

LOST blew my mind when those two were on screen!
