2010 Character Competition - Day 7. Round 1.7

Sep 15, 2010

(As I'm out from Eleven this morning, New York Time :P, I'm posting early again, and so I've guessed the winners, so if I'm wrong apologies and I'll rectify for tomorrow!)

So we hit the penultimate day of round one and yesterday certainly threw up some surprises, and we saw a pre-tournament favourite bite the dust at the first time of asking. I certainly was surprised at the results, and to lose Greg House so early is a shame (also as I had done a great Character Competition Picture for him for Round two onwards. It will live to show itself another day :P)

Today we have the guy who seems to have far too many bad days, Jack Bauer of '24' vs. short lived Space Drama 'Firefly' favourite River Tam. (as explained earlier in the competition, River Tam was a late entry after a mistake I made in the nomination phase, which explains the man vs. woman in round one) Also we have Abby Sciuto of 'NCIS' taking on 'House's' only hope in the competition now, Lisa Cuddy. The final two matchups are a 'LOST' & 'Buffy' showdown, with John Locke battling Spike, and then Chloe Sullivan of 'Smallville' facing 'One Tree Hill' star Brooke Davis
Also keep upto date with the competition and/or ask questions by following me on twitter. I'll also post some of my reviews, writing updates & other bits & bobs, more often than not TV and Film based. I'm at: http://twitter.com/AdDHarris

Don't forget to keep following your bracket if you entered the competition athttp://www.dawgsled.com/darkufo/welcome.asp

Jack Bauer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Bauer

Place your Votes....

Jack Bauer vs. River Tam
Abby Sciuto vs. Lisa Cuddy
John Locke vs Spike
Chloe Sullivan vs. Brooke Davis

In advance, the voting window is 24 hours, and I have set closing times for the poll, but if they do not work, or they aren't set at any point in the competition, the poll will close when I check the votes myself. This is not at all due to cheating, it's due to the fact that I will be busy and so please let's avoid the torrent of abuse that the infamous Smallville vs. The Vampire Diaries produced :P

Have fun guys, and any questions as always email me on:
adam.d.harris1989@googlemail.com

  1. SPIKE all the way! Locke started off as a wonderful character but along the way I just started to hate him. O.o

    ReplyDelete
  2. Just FYI Chloe Sullivan is what kept me watching Smallville for 10 years. :)

    ReplyDelete
  3. Nothing! That's what Jack Bauer says : )

    ReplyDelete
  4. Locke is my least favorite character from LOST and is the only person on this list who I will be ticked off if he wins.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hello. С кем вы проголосовали?

    ReplyDelete
  6. River Tam was kind of a main character in Firefly. As someone who has seen both Firefly and 24, I can quite honestly say River could take twenty Jack Bauer's in a fight. And she's a ninety pound girl.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Dancing with The Stars and American Idol have won more Emmy's than every David Simon show ever made. The Wire never even won an Emmy.

Titanic won more Oscars than Scorsese's entire career.

Awards are a sign of lack of quality in a show that it accessible to the double digit IQ masses.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I had both House and Locke in the final four and Locke in the finals. The whole right side of the bracket contest is now a failure for me. Oh well. Guess I don't get the prize.

    ReplyDelete
  9. H'ok, I'm home, the next round will be up momentarily
    :)

Hmmmm...I can't get on the dawgsled site to get the next 8 characters, and I haven't written them down. It'll be up as soon as I know all 8 characters :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yea no kidding, lol. I went O.O for awhile there.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Make sure Supernatural is in that list of shows to watch. >.>

    ReplyDelete
  12. Probably due to that fight scene (of EPICNESS) between her and a bar full of people. That was one of the best chick fighting scenes I've ever scene. It was a ballet of destruction and she was in full pwnage mode. pwned. like everyone.

    it was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks for continuing to do this with all the changes in your life. You're making the next 9 days bearable!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I had Locke through to the finals, beating House in the quarterfinals who would beat Scully in the eights. I obviously don't know this audience as well as I thought I did. The good news is that with the exception of Scully, Wilson, and Lorelai, everyone I wanted to win in this side of the bracket has won so far. Go Abby! I hope you get to the finals!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Me neither.. although as I'm the one giving the prize away I was never
    eligible )

    ReplyDelete
  16. Who said anything bout Emmys and Oscars??

I said numerous awards, which is of course a sign that it's quality has been recognised. The Wire has won a lot of awards, it never won an Emmy because it wasn't exactly an Emmy friendly show. That of course don't mean it wasn't quality.

I think due to it's intense mythology, deep character studies, and complexity, LOST did exceedingly well to recieve so many Best Drama Emmy nominations though.

You can say you don't like it, but it's not a poor show in any way. The NUMEROUS (not limited to just Emmys) awards show this and you really have no argument against that.

    ReplyDelete
  17. the numerous award nominations and wins for LOST would tend to disagree with you...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I didn't care much for Peyton, either. But I loved loved Lucas. He was my favorite character. The MAIN character, getting rid of him was pretty dumb. (in my opinion). Whatever happened with CMM and the producers/who ever musta been bad.

    ReplyDelete
  19. "I can quite honestly say River could take twenty Jack Bauer's in a fight. And she's a ninety pound girl."

I watched Firefly (and Serenity) so I'm sure you're right but this isn't an Ultimate Fighter tournament so I really don't know what that fact has to do with anything.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks mate, looking forward to it :)

    Brackets updated.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks for the good work then ;) Remembering how the poll did look last night and the fact that Buffy already went down, I wouldn´t have dreamed about that he would stand a chance at all and even less against someone from Lost! I´m so glad I was wrong ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I hate LOST. What a terrible show that was. The writers were just well paid trolls making up gobbledygook as they went along and ending the show in the most lazy and amateur ways in television history. That show is a joke.

24 was marginally better, borderline pedantic drivel.

I never watched the steaming offal that is House or NCIS.

Chloe was one of the 2 reasons I watched Smallville for 4 years and never needed to look at porn.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why is that a fail? Because Dahne's being honest about who they'd rather vote for, or because Locke isn't one of them? I myself don't particularly take offense to that fact. As a matter of fact, now that Dean and Sam have for sure made it to round 2, and Spike is well on his way there, I'm screwed, because now I have to choose between three utterly amazing characters, two of whom are freaking brothers.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Same for me;) but my bracket was already wrecked after House and Scully didn´t make it through! But I really hope Spike wins this, I was so happy when I saw that he leads right now ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. River, Lisa, Spike, Chloe from me :D

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jack Bauer ftw!! Firefly was good but 24 was revolutionary! it changed tv, as did Jack!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well my bracket is completely wrecked after this round. I put Locke to win all the way through to the final four. I'm very happy Spike won though :) just wasn't expecting it. And Abby :D yay!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Actually I think OTH got better after the terrible seasons 5 and 6 just because we got rid of the whiny, undecided Peyton. She's on my list of most annoying characters ever. And her on and off with Luke was getting old as well.

    ReplyDelete
  29. How in God's name is Jack Bauer losing to that girl? How could he lose to anyone?Blasphemy!

    ReplyDelete
  30. She has come a long way, in my opinion she's come the furthest out of all the characters on OTH but Chloe has too. I think both deserve it but to me, Chloe does more.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I guess no big enough in the online world.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah, I thought House had a huge fan base .. guess I was wrong

    ReplyDelete
  33. Lex was the most interesting part of the show for me, I really hope he appears by the end of the final season somehow. Nothing against Chloe and Clark, but they have had so many cheesy moments.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow. Just... wow.

    I love the internet.

    ReplyDelete
  35. hahaha. Quitting just may be the best option. I've got so much to watch as well.

We should set up a TV watching and reviewing shows section from times gone by for anyone watching old shows for the first time :P Seems I have a huge list now, haha

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, it's a two-way street buddy: Judging from your post, I'd say you're an obvious fanboy of Jack Bauer. That would, by your own reasoning, make you stupid. You stupid fanboy. Quit calling people stupid, ok? People like what they like.

Oh and Fyi, I voted for Jack too I think (That poll didn't matter to me as much since I'm not a stupid fanboy of either show)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow, never seen that before: whaddya gotta say to get BANNED!?
    *Is scared.*

    ReplyDelete
  38. Never did I expect the votes to turn out like this. I guess I'm putting Firefly on my list of shows to rent now. You keep doing these contests Adam and I'm going to have to quit my job just to watch all the "not-to-be-missed" shows I've missed.

Here's hoping Spike can hold on to the lead and way to go Abby!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Brooke Davis has come such a long way in One Tree Hill, she deserves to win over a Smallville character ANYDAY!

    ReplyDelete
  40. My bracket is not going well. I've been very wrong about a lot of rounds :(

    ReplyDelete
  41. River, Cuddy and Locke. So sad that House is out. :( Can you believe it, Scully and House are GONE?!! O_O

    ReplyDelete
  42. JOHN LOCKE!! JOHN LOCKE!! JOHN LOCKE!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. всем привет из г.улан-удэ россия

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jack Bauer FTW! Also, John Locke and Chloe Sullivan!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Chloe Sullivan is by far the best character in Smallville, John Locke is just awesome. Also voted for Jack Bauer & Lisa Cuddy

    ReplyDelete
  46. Morning Folks (Or afternoon, evening, night wherever you are!)

I voted for Jack Bauer, Lisa Cuddy & John Locke. Didn't vote in the last one as I haven't seen either.

(btw, the Brooke David should change to Davis soon :P)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Voted for Abby (no contest) and John Locke (again no contest). Two of the most unique characters ever on TV performed by outstanding actors.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Me too, Adam, me too. I've been a fan of 24 since the 4th episode of Season 3. As for House, never watched it faithfully like I did with 24, but it is a very good show.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed to lose Greg House and Jack Bauer in these early rounds.

They're two of the top few most iconic roles of the past 10 years.

    ReplyDelete
  50. just being curious... what is that about Clark that you like so much?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I can't believe (well, unfortunately, yes I can) that a supporting character from a one-and-done genre show is outvoting Jack Bauer, and American and international television icon. Stupid fanboys.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You took the words right out of my mouth. Abby rocks!

    ReplyDelete
  53. As much as I like Joss Whedon's shows, Jack Bauer so needs to win this! I don't understand where all the fans are coming from!!! If there are more fans to come, River Tam will have Jack Bauered Jack Bauer!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Like your choices, love your explanation.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I feel your pain. I had House in the final four with Scully losing to him in the earlier round. I'm getting no points in that bracket.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Today I am voting against. I voted against Jack, John, and Brooke. I voted FOR Abby, who is one of the most intriguing characters on TV, male or female.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Voted River, Cuddy, and Spike. I love LOST, but Locke is one of the characters I don't like as much, and well... if it was up to me, Spike would win this whole competition.

    ReplyDelete
  58. River - of course.
    Abby - of course.
The only decision I found difficult was Locke vs Spike. In the end, I went with Spike as I'm new to the Lost fandom. Haven't seen the last ones.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Great -,- right now every Character I voted for in this round is losing ;(

    ReplyDelete
  60. This is the first day I care about all the polls. I'm voting for River Tam, Abby Sciuto, Spike, and Chloe Sullivan.

River Tam because she was a brave, entertaining, kickass girl who went through hell but still stood up at the end (because you don't take her Simon away).

Abby Sciuto because, while I haven't seen much of her, what I've seen is preferable to Cuddy (who I've seen much more of).

Spike because he shook up the vampire scene with his irreverent ways and emotional moments. Mostly because he was love's bitch and he knew it. <3

Chloe Sullivan because she's a strong, smart, brave, and just plain out amazing girl that has matured so much since her first appearance on Smallville.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "Just FYI Chloe Sullivan is what kept me watching Smallville for 10 years. :) "

I think Chloe fulfilled her purpose quite a few seasons ago, and the only reason I watched and am watching this show is for Clark.

And I don't want to turn this into a Chloe vs Rest of the SV fans debate so I'm going to admit that watching Chloe on screen has been enjoyable.

    ReplyDelete
  62. John Locke and River Tam FTW!

    ReplyDelete
  63. My favorite character from Smallville is Clark!

And I voted for Chloe because she's pretty cool herself!
Also voted Jack Bauer & Spike.

    ReplyDelete
  64. No matter how much I love Cuddy, Abby is one of the best characters on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Well Whedonesque is without doubt the most popular whedon fan site and they haven't posted anything. On the other hand, River and Spike seem to have very similar total vote numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  66. How the hell is Jack Bauer losing? Granted River is awesome, but this is Jack Bauer we're talkin about.

    ReplyDelete
  67. As much as I hate Smallville, I don't hate Chloe, she's actually one of those bareable ones on the show, but still it's definitely Brooke who gets my vote. Damn it, something has to be done with those Smallville fans, we have some cool characters eliminated because of them :P
if Brooke loses, I will no longer have a female I can cheer for, as Lorelai lost the battle yesterday (and still can't believe she did, she was what kept GG entertaining and great when Rory became too annoying for words).

    ReplyDelete
  68. I voted for Jack Bauer, Lisa Cuddy, Spike ( Buffy didn´t make it and Spike is up against someone from Lost ;°( , but hope dies last ! ) and Brooke Davis.Even so I stoped watching OTH around season 4, Brooke was definitely my favorite character in that show. But I think that I wouldn´t vote for a Smallville character even if they would be up against someone i really hate.Still a little mad , that Scully lost against Lois and Eric against Clark -,-

    ReplyDelete
  69. - Jack Bauer
    - Abby Sciuto
    - John Locke
    - Chloe Sullivan

As said yesterday, heres my votes.
    Dexters on tomorrow :D.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I absolutely love Spike, but I know he'll lose, everyone up against someone from LOST has :(
So my only hope in this round is Abby, who I love :)
I dont watch any of the other shows so I didnt vote for anyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hey guys, an update to the avid fans, the next round won't be up for a few hours as I'm off out now and I haven't had the time to get it completed.
I reckon it'll be up in 6/7 hours though, so get ready :P

    ReplyDelete
  72. I would hope that some of the fact that he's in the lead is partially because of me, because I've been tweeting updates since almost 6 or 7 PM of last night, save for the 8 hour period where I was zonked out on my bed, lol. I'm exhausted.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Great idea! My NetFlix is loaded up.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Of all the characters nominated, John Locke is the one to be losing? He's the best freakin' character (in my opinion, of course)! Granted I've never watched Buffy really... but my favorite character of my favorite television show of all time is currently losing? This sucks... especially after the major disappointment with Scully not making it through round 1.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I did watch LOST for 2 years and I hated Locke. He was my least favorite character by far. In all honesty, I liked Spike a whole lot better before he got the chip in his head. I tend to think of Spike 2.0 as the end of one of my favorite villains of all time. Before the chip, he was snarky and fun. After the chip he was whiny and annoying. But I really hated his character when he and Buffy had that whole angry sex thing going. I felt it ruined both characters. Spike did get better after that mess but he was still a far cry from his heyday when he killed the annointed kid and then said they were going to have a lot less ritual and a lot more fun. That was classically cold and I loved him for it!

There are about 25 people I would vote for before Spike. Locke is not one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Spike is seriously going to beat John Locke? I mean, its just an online voting poll and I like Spike just as much as the next guy, but Locke is one of the best characters ever.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I am so rampant about this, lol. I nagged everyone in my general vicinity during the Dean/Barney vote, the Sam/Gibbs vote, and the Buffy/Sookie vote. Buffy and Sookie didn't turn out the way I wanted it to, but that's prolly b/c, for me personally, I wasn't feeling too good that day and was less adamant about people voting for her favor. Spike's been my guy for the last 12 years, and I WILL see him win, dammit :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. River, Abby, SPIKE!!!! and Chloe :D I've been trolling the boards for the past 2 hours getting people to vote! Twitter is a wonderful thing :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. I voted Spike and Chloe, I liked LOST, and OTH was awesome until Luke and Peyton left, Brooke was okay, and I didn't like Locke. The other shows...I never watched.

I love love love Chloe, and Spike was an epic Vampire, still upset Buffy LOST! wth is this?

    ReplyDelete
  80. River, Abby, Locke and Chloe.

    ReplyDelete
  81. lol what you said, only minus Smallville and plus One Tree Hill.
I don't mean to be bitter but the unbearable show in the equation is OTH...

    ReplyDelete
  82. Spike and Locke are the two greatest TV characters of the last 10 years.

This is sad times that one has to bite the dust so early. Just because he's losing, and he was so awesome and badass and everything a vampire should be (Pattinson, take note)...

I'm gonna' vote Spike, but Locke is the best character in LOST...

    ReplyDelete
  83. I guess a Whedon Fan site has picked up on it :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. River Tam, Abby Sciuto, Spike and Chloe Sullivan - looks like I love to root for the underdog, all but Chloe are loosing #ncis #smallville #firefly #buffy

    ReplyDelete
  85. I don't really care about today's poll because of all the shows up today I only watch LOST and NCIS sometimes. But tomorrow is going to be fun. Dexter Dexter! I hate John Locke but I don't know who Spike is. But if Locke lose my bracket is busted.

Oh I just realised I'm 4/4 for yesterday. lol

    ReplyDelete
  86. I don't watch LOST... Well, untrue, I saw one episode, and it made my head hurt, so I never really went back out of fear for my brain. But I've been a Buffy fan since the show's inception and subsequent departure, and for me, Spike never got the right amount of recognition that he should have. Even in season 7, the whole 'he got a soul' bit? It was met with, "Well, ANGEL did it first." From the character of Angel, even. So, sorry. I don't begrudge you your choice, but I would rather that Spike wins. After 12 years of this character, I think it's the least he deserves.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Go you! Gotta love the people with online connections. Keep spreading the word. Maybe Spike will pull this one off after all.
