2010 Character Competition - Day 5. Round 1.5

13 Sept 2010

So we're back, and hopefully fully bug & cheat free and can crack on with the competition. Apologies for the few day's delays but it couldn't be helped and we wanted to make sure we weren't going to get any wrong results etc etc. Now I'm in New York and pretty much settled, so we shouldn't have any more delays or set-backs and we should be able to cruise to the end of the competition with no troubles. :)
Also keep upto date with the competition and ask questions or comment by following me on twitter. I'm at: http://twitter.com/AdDHarris
So we're into Day 5 (technically) and is the start of the second half of the draw. In the previous few rounds the winners were Jack Shephard, Fiona Glennane, Chandler Bing & Kate Austen, followed by the results from yesterday which were Seeley Booth, Christina Yang, Sam Winchester & Elena Gilbert. Glad we've got those couple out of the way :P
Today we have Clark Kent from 'Smallville' taking on 'True Bloods' resident Vampire Eric Northman. Also we have another of the 'NCIS' crew in Ziva David taking on another of the surgeons from 'Grey's Anatomy' in Meredith Grey. Also we have titular character Richard 'Castle' taking on the man from the other side, 'Fringe's' Peter Bishop. Finally there is Clark's beau, Lois Lane ('Smallville') taking on the second member of the 'X-Files' team in Dana Scully.

Don't forget to keep following your bracket if you entered the competition at http://www.dawgsled.com/darkufo/welcome.asp
Our current leader is Sergey "RussianSnow" Sevostianov with 15/16, a very impressive beginning to the competition. I'm currently waivering in joint 11th on 12/16.

Here's the Round One links to the Characters:

Time to Place Your Votes Folks

Clark Kent vs. Eric Northman
Ziva David vs. Meredith Grey
Richard Castle vs. Peter Bishop
Lois Lane vs. Dana Scully

In advance, the voting window is 24 hours, and I have set closing times for the poll, but if they do not work, or they aren't set at any point in the competition, the poll will close when I check the votes myself. This is not at all due to cheating, it's due to the fact that I will be busy and so please let's avoid the torrent of abuse that the infamous Smallville vs. The Vampire Diaries produced :P

Have fun guys, and any questions as always email me on:
adam.d.harris1989@googlemail.com

  1. Clark Kent
    Meredith Grey
    Rick Castle
    Lois Lane

    That was an easy pick...

  2. These are very easy for me too. Lois, Clark, Meredith, and Peter.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Castle vs Bishop and Lane vs Scully are kind of tough for me... But, I will go with

    - Castle
    - Lane
    - Clark
    - Ziva

    ReplyDelete
  4. Forgot to add the most obvious reason... she's a NINJA!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why? What is it about Meredith that should make people vote for her?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Here is why you should chose Ziva David instead of the self-absorbed, whiny Meredith. First, Ziva could kick Meredith's butt if she were handcuffed, blindfolded and drugged up with 2 broken legs. She is a strong woman who can make decisions and stick with them. She has the power to kill with her hands and yet uses her brain first (usually) to look at the consequences and the big picture.

Second, Ziva has had just as much if not more turmoil in her life. The David family is Israel's poster child for family dysfunction. Her father had her trained as an assassin. He also sent Ziva into a known terrorist's camp without sufficient backup and then did not bother to rescue her when she was captured and tortured. Ziva also had to kill her own brother because he was going to assassinate Gibbs. Emerging from this chaos, Ziva found a new family in her NCIS co-workers. Although not accepted at first (by her co-workers or the fans), she has grown into one of the best-loved characters on NCIS.

Ziva also brings out the best in other NCIS characters. Her relationship with Gibbs is only second to his relationship with Abby. Ziva sees Gibbs as a father figure she can trust, something missing with her own father. While she is physically and emotionally tough, she shows her vulnerable side to Gibbs when she cannot take it anymore and Gibbs' response to Ziva gives his character more heart. Ziva and Abby began with a rocky start as Abby (and the fans) didn't like that she replaced Kate. Still, Abby now defends Ziva with as much heart as she does the other characters and isn't afraid to call Ziva out when she's doing something stupid. Ziva is also a fan favorite because of her chemistry with Tony.

Ziva is an amazing character because she has been trained to be physically superior and emotionally detached. Yet as she has worked with NCIS through the years, she has become surprisingly empathetic and a strong friend. Even when conflicted by her loyalty to Gibbs/the team and that of her family and country, she has been a fascinating character to watch. That is why you should vote for Ziva David.

  7. Eric is not winning? O.o How's that happened? O.o

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ziva only ended lives because her father raised her to, and now she no longer does it unless the person deserves it. She is so strong that she was able to free herself of the clutches of Mossad and her father, the very evil Director Eli David, become a part of the NCIS family, learn how to be an investigator, become a (Probationary hehe Probie) Special Agent, and become an American citizen.

Now, although i like Grey's and I love Meredith... could she have done that? No. She would have whined and ran away. Ziva fessed up to her daddy issues while Meredith ignored them. Ziva is stronger, more liked, and pretty kick ass.... and besides... SHE'S A NINJA! Meredith doesn't save lives yet anyway, she's still a resident. Ziva saves more lives then her.

  9. Ditto to all this.

And Scully was the reason girls/women started to realize, that you could have both beauty and brains, and feel proud of that fact, since she definitely had both - in Spades.

    ReplyDelete
  10. How could u make me choose between eric and Clark T.T
Well i chose Clark in the end (I'm a Superman freak)

    ReplyDelete
  11. yeah, I can't believe Smallville is that popular either, I've already said it once during the best show competition - Clark is the most disappointing Superman I could think of and I'd rather live in a world with no superheroes and be hunted by Croatoans than have Clark of Smallville as my Superman. I gave this show up after a few first seasons, I guess more or less at the time of my growing up. And I don't know what happened to Lex in later seasons and if he eventually turned out evil or good, but for me he was one of the most exciting characters on the show and I like him much more than the pathetic farmer boy, Clark.

  12. saving lives has very little to do with being the better character, Meredith is full of issues, self-centred, insecure and annoying, I still cannot believe it's her and Derek of Grey's in this competition, while there are many more interesting and more likeable characters on the show - Callie, Alex, Mark - I love Alex in particular, maybe I just have a thing for bad boys with dark past and difficult childhood, who later appear to be the sweetest ones of all.
anyway, my point was, anyone is better than Meredith.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You should write a "Why to Vote for Peter" comment. You would be so much better at it than me. Maybe then people who haven't seen Fringe or Castle would vote for Peter, who is definitely the superior character.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Castle vs Bishop was my hardest decision. I just love both of them. Bishop is more unique, but I like Castle so much better...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm 12/16 this far, let's see how it goes today.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ok, so mostly it was voting "against", not "for" for me today - I sincerely hate Clark, so I voted for Eric (and I don't even watch True Blood) and for Ziva, because I can't stand Meredith (she's the worst character on the show, which is ironic, cause she is the lead one). I also voted for Scully, but that one had nothing to do with hating Lois, who is ok. Didn't vote in the remaining poll, cause I haven't watched either show.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Clark, Ziva, Castle, Lois

    ReplyDelete
  18. If I only got to pick one, Scully would be it. Still, I would like to see Ziva and Peter make it through too. I don't care at all about Clark Kent and Eric Northman.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Finally a day of easy picks. Superman, Ziva (who rocks almost as much as Fi), Peter Bishop (second only to his dad as a reason to watch this show), and Scully (one of my favorite women characters of all time). Here's hoping for a day without the multiple voting drama of the last round.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This one is easy:
    - Eric Northman
    - Ziva David
    - Peter BAMF Bishop
    - Dana Scully

    ReplyDelete
  21. Clark, Ziva, Castle and Lois!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Clark Kent, Ziva David, Rick Castle and Lois Lane! #smallville #ncis #castle

    ReplyDelete
  23. Eric, Ziva, Castle and Scully :) That was easy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am only voting Ziva because NCIS and Grey's are the only shows I watch in these polls... but Ziva is soooo much better than Meredith so she beats ALLLLL!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes, am agree too, I don't care the others, I just hope that Scully wins

    ReplyDelete
  26. - Eric Northman
    - Meredith Grey
    - Peter Bishop
    - Dana Scully

Not so much bothered about who wins in the first 3 polls. However, I do wish Dana 'Are You Suggesting' Scully wins (:

On a side-note: Glad to see PollDaddy back.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I voted for Eric Northman, Meredith Grey, Peter Bishop, Lois Lane.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I vote for Bishop, Meredith and DANA SCULLY (Scully is one of the best characters ever...and Mulder and my Winchester boys....)
I vote in this poll, that means that I not were banned because I have to click again in last poll to see the results???

    ReplyDelete
  29. The only shows I watch from this round are Fringe and Castle, and unfortunately they're up against each other... it's hard, but since I've only seen a couple of Fringe and I've seen all the Castle, my vote went to Castle =]

    ReplyDelete
  30. In advance, anyone has any problems or questions regarding the round and voting, comment on this post.

I voted for Ziva David, Peter Bishop & Dana Scully.
What did everyone else vote for?

    ReplyDelete
  31. That are easy picks for me this round ;)
Eric, Ziva, Peter and of course Scully ;)
I like Castle too , but he can´t compare to Peter in my opinion!

    ReplyDelete
  32. HOW IS SCULLY NOT WINNING?!! O_O

    ReplyDelete
  33. Don't care, Ziva (no contest) and Scully in the fourth poll. I ended up voting Peter in the third although I would have preferred the first and third polls be mixed up. *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, that explains it. I thought the Cigarette-Smoking Man was implanting devices into the voters in an effort to further sabotage Scully and Mulder's search for the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I voted Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would like to see Meredith Grey kill someone 18 different ways with a paperclip (: YEAH ZIVA!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lois & Clark have the advantage that they have the same fans :S haha

    ReplyDelete
  38. Can't believe Scully is losing to Lois Lane!!!!
Btw, voted for Kent, Meredith, Castle and Scully!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Many people can be trained to physically accomplish things, but not everyone can save a life with a scalpel. I like NCIS and Grey's, but Meredith's character is more complex in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What I would say if I could make it coherent enough.

I only had to watch a single episode of Grey's Anatomy to roll my eyes of Meredith. So much I feared my eyes would get stuck mid-roll. And the drama... I was cringing all the way through one of her never ending dramas with this guy she just couldn't quit it seemed. And he wasn't any better.

No give me Ziva any day. A self sufficient woman who can kick a** and take care of herself in all matters.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I PICKED:
Eric Northman (because he is better than Clark Kent.)
Ziva David (Because I couldn't care less for Meredith Grey and that show but loves Ziva and NCIS)
Richard Castle (Because while I love Peter Bishop and Fringe, I love Richard Castle and that show most here)
Dana Scully (Just because The X-Files/Scully is my all-time fave TV show/Female character on TV)

    Easy as that.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks so much for explaining why you chose who you did. It makes this contest more fun and sometimes even inspires me to watch other shows.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ziva saves lives too. She arrests the bad guys who are planning to kill more people and blow things up. By taking down the murders and terrorists, Ziva makes sure less people need a doctor.

Edited to add...or a funeral director.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Meredith saves lives - she's a doctor.
    Ziva destroys lives - she's a killer.

NO Contest! Meredith will always be the better character.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Very well said. Ziva is pretty much one of the best characters on NCIS (behind the amazing oxymoron herself Abigail Scuito) and a whole lot more. I honestly don't have time to make any analysis of Ziva like you did because I am watching the football game but I will say a few things...

Her sexual tension with Tony makes about every episode very amusing to watch.

She can sing, like amazingly! (listening to Tempation right now)

Was a European cab driver in another life but we still love her and love watching her almost kill McGee and Tony while driving.

    She killed Houdini

She can kill you 18 different ways with a paperclip

Yepp, that about sums up Ziva haha!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Meredith is the best ever! <3

    ReplyDelete
  47. Same! Plus I voted for Eric.

    ReplyDelete
  48. MEREDITHHHHHHHHHHH! of course :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Out of all the other rounds the only show I even sometimes watch is Castle, so i voted for him. And i left the other rounds and didnt vote for anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  50. If Ziva doesn't win this I think i will cry. Both NCIS guys have lost so far :( and Ziva's my second favourite character (after Tony). So i really hope she wins.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Eric Northman, Ziva David, and Lois Lane

I'd be more conflicted about this if it was the Lois&Clark version of Clark. I fell out of love with Smallville's version a while ago. Eric is delightfully manipulative and mischievous while also possessing an admirable amount of loyalty and responsibility.

I've only seen a few episodes of NCIS and only watched a clip of Meredith (about 30 minutes ago). So, I can't say much about that except I liked Ziva without knowing much about her. The same isn't true for Meredith.

And mouthy, butt-kicking, always-in-trouble Lois Lane? She can drink a guy under the table and then proceed to lift one leg, kick him, and not fall on her ass. How is that not awesome? LOL! I think I sort of connected the Lane family to the Winchesters too. So, that may influence how much I love a Lane. Military father who lost his wife. Older sibling who took on the responsibility of a parent, forming insecurities hidden beneath a tough wise-cracking exterior. Independent younger sibling raised mostly by the older, forming her own insecurities about being the unfavored one.

...Okay I'm rambling now. Anyway, those are my choices.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Argh... right now it looks like only one of the characters I voted for will make it through ;( So Typical ... Can´t believe that Eric loses against Clark -,- Eric is just so badass , you have to love him for that! Never understood how Smallville managed to get renewed for 10 seasons, not only is Clark boring but Lex Luthor is so implausible. I only watched few episodes but I just couldn´t stand it.

And that Scully is losing too is just unbelievable...

    ReplyDelete
  53. Eric, Ziva, Castle and Scully. Completely over Smallville and everyone on it, and have been for a long time. Eric is so nasty - I love it. Ziva kicks ass and still manages to have a heart - Meredith annoys me - as Dahne1 said she's self-absorbed and whiny. Love my sci fi/paranormal but Fringe leaves me cold - whereas Castle makes me laugh. Scully because - well she's Scully, and Lois - see comment on Smallville.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I can't believe this is even necessary but here's "Why You Should Vote For Scully". No offense to Lois Lane here, because in all honesty I pretty much checked out of Smallville when Lex Luther did, but Dana Scully is an icon of TV. Before the Scully character, most female characters on television were appreciated for their looks, humor, or motherly characteristics. Dana Scully was appreciated for her brains. The show celebrated how smart she was and took pains to make that one of the biggest parts of her character. Scully is a predecessor to all the smart female roles we have now.

However, besides being a smart woman, Scully was tremendously complicated. She revered science and yet depended on faith. She was loathe to believe in the supernatural, but didn't hesitate to follow Mulder into strange new experiences. She was after the truth just as much as Mulder and would seek explanations even when confronted with her own prejudices. She was a self-sufficient career woman who broke down as she dealt with cancer, abduction, a possible child, etc. Scully was a complex character who went through a lot and came out fighting through it all.

Others please add why Scully is such an iconic character. I'm too tired to do her justice right now.
