  4. Season 3 for me. That was the best time of Kim Manners. All his works are great, and especially ones in 3rd season are brilliant more than ever.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I agree that season three was very uneven, but it had some great episodes (although, I'm not sure that I would include bedtime stories!)
    -A Very Supernatural Christmas
    -Jus in Bello
    -No rest for the Wicked
    -Bad Day at Black Rock
    -Mystery Spot

I might add that, season 4 was also my favourite, and season 2 would come in second for me as well; I think that season 2 would be the season I would chose to introduce someone to the show. Season 1 (although it has some good episodes) works better if you have confirmation that the show improves a lot!

  6. Having had my say and cast my vote (season 4 in case you missed it) I just want to add how much I'm appreciating here on SpoilerTV everyone is able to voice their opinions without being ridiculed or put down. This is vastly different from other sites I've visited. So thanks.
This discussion has been so cool - I've been reminded of so many things I'd forgotten about! Watched Devil's Trap again this morning - that truck slamming into the Impala still freaks me out! I've also come to the conclusion that Criss Angel is a Douche bag is my least favourite episode of all time. Can't quite put my finger on why though. I think it has something to do with Barry Bostwick's character ending up old and alone, and that Sam and Dean probably wouldn't even live long enough to get old - despite everything there's a small part of me that hopes they'll eventually get a 'happy ending' of some sort. Sorry but I do! Can't even begin to decide what my most favourite episode is.

  7. Huh, it's a really hard decision, but I picked season 2, because there's so much brotherly love, first time trickster, first time evil!Sam and all those great things... <3

  8. The shapeshifters brought us Ron Reznick and Monster Movie so I'm good with them. Skin was a little too gross for me (Dean's teeth falling out - EW) but I loved how it amped up the tension for Dean and Sam with both the cops and the shapeshifter to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I STILL CAN PICK JUST1 BECAUSE EACH EPISODE JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER... P.S. DID ANYONE SE THE GUY WHO PLAYS THE SHAPESHIFTER,HE IS IN THE NEW PEPSI MAX/COKE COMERICAL./LISA

    ReplyDelete
  10. Not a big fan of Bugs either, although I really like spiders in general. I do like the shapeshifters - esp. the Dean one in Skin - they are so gross when they shed. And the SPN take on vampires is cool - all those teeth! This is so off the topic - but hey too bad!

  11. I'm enjoying the rational discussion too where everyone understands the "agree to disagree" concept. It's nice being able to reminisce about different episodes with other who can fully appreciate your fan love without getting distracted by petty arguments. I just hope people continue commenting after the Favorite Character contest is over.

I thought Criss Angel.... was an okay episode. I did love the guest characters. However, my least favorite episode will now and forever be Bugs. Ugh! It was on TNT again last week and I can confirm that this episode sucks from beginning to end. To quote Ron Weasley, "Why does it always have to be spiders!"

  12. Very true about Becky but I'm still going to blame season 4 for her and all the meta episodes. Without The Monster at the End of This Book she would never have happened. I hate that episode and everything it brought along after it. (One exception would be Chuck in The End. He was fabulous in that episode.)

I liked season 3 mytharc because it is the most personal. It is Dean, Sam, and Bobby. It's about what happens to your family when you know someone's going to die. In a lot of ways it's like Dean has a fatal disease, so the real battle isn't against Lilith; it's against time. That's a battle everyone loses and it humbles the whole family. We are so used to seeing the Winchesters pull off a last minute win that when they finally realize they aren't going to win this one it is even more heartbreaking.

I also like how the mytharc changed the characters. Sammy becomes the big protector, a man on a mission. No doubt that Sam had saved Dean before, but this time is different and Sam takes on the main leadership role. Sam's main reason to be in the fight is over (killing the demon that killed Jessica), but he is more invested than ever. For Dean it is the opposite. Already in season 2 he questions how he was raised, but it comes to a head in season 3. When he says, "I'm gonna be gone one day and what am I leaving behind except a car." it crushed me. Dean's not the most introspective character so when this death sentence forced him to examine his life it led to some of the best character development in the whole show.

By season 4 and 5, the mytharc is cosmic/epic. I loved season 4 mytharc; don't get me wrong. It is a very, very close second to me. It just lost a bit of intimacy when the angels and demons swooped in.

  13. season 4 for me was the most emotional and challenging, for me it was the most complete season of all.
Since the beginning of this season I really started to be obsessed with the supernatural.XD

    ReplyDelete
  14. Season 5 , as i it showed Dean got his courage back again and Sam and him were back to usual . Also it had moment's in it that just made me wanna cry . Season 4 was way to much comedy the one were it went black and white and the zombie's and Dracula and so on was in it god i mean it was so bad and not needed. This season were getting to the end i think at the end of season 5 that was no way on earth Sam , i think it's still the devil and it's going be all doom and golm. some of us said you didn't like it cause it was depression but season 3 was far way more Dean went to hell and in season four him and Sam fight . So i hate it that what we call dark and in season 3 we had "the gohstfacer's " they got on my never's . can i just say if anybody want's to email me it's lovemojo1991@hotmail.com . x

  15. My Top-5:
    1. Season 2;
    2. Season 3;
    3. Season 1;
    4. Season 5;
    ...
    ...
    ...
    999. Season 4.

I can not explain why I do not like season 4. Probably because I did not like Sam "Season 4" Winchester. Screenwriters threw him from extreme to extreme. A huge number of angels also played a bad role for me. Besides, books about Winchesters, crazy fans, new Ruby, and even Supernatural convention ... it is definitely overkill. The concept of the show changed a bit after the third season, I think not for the better. But it is not important, because Season 5 again turned out excellent. I do not know what imagined Sera and Ostroff about season 6, but who knows, maybe they will make it the best.
Season 2 is the best for me.

P.S. Sorry for mistakes again ;)

    ReplyDelete
  16. this is actually pretty easy for me. I liked all the seasons overall, but it goes like this for me:

season four-->Sam's powers, Sam/Ruby, Ruby in general (i like her character, and I thought it best in s4, but like someone else said, its really hard to compare the two because they were very different)

Season two--> BUABS (love evil!sam) i think makes this season so special for me, but also has goodies like Croatoan, and so on

Season five-->I think s5 actually gets third place for me instead of 4th because of episodes "The end" and "My Bloody Valentine". To a lesser extent, "Sam, Interrupted" was a highlight as well. Still, I also feel there was more comedies than I would have liked, and not enough appocalypse.

Season one--> This started the whole thing, and had gems like "nightmare" and "home". I love this season, but I am more of a fan of the mytharc than MOTW...but if it wasn't for some select eps in s5, this would have been third.

Season three-->I think this one felt a bit choppy to me b/c of the writer's strike, plus there's Bela...but still, it did give us "bedtime stories" (i love the old fairytales the way they were meant to be, and not the disney versions) and "bad day at black rock", which I am definately greatful for...

so to sum everything up my fav seasons go in this order: 4, 2, 5, 1, 3... :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Season 4. Without doubt the most powerful season premiere that I've seen in a very long time. Dean's resurrection, the introduction of the angels, Sam showing his hand of ipecac powers for the first time... all of that combined was a gutsy, crazy way to start things off. Plus, the finale was even better (made more awesome by the fact that they set the episode where I live!! Crazy.)

But I love every season; Season 4's just a notch higher.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I love them all! Season one: getting to know the brothers and their world. Season two: getting the feeling there was something about Sam. Season three: Dean trying to avoid going to hell - have to say that Bela (the character not the actress) irritated me the whole time so I was pleased to see the back of her. Season four: so much going on - Dean coming back from hell, the angels showing up, Sam and Ruby (loved Ruby - I just knew all along she was BAD). Alastair was awesome (so happy he bought it though). Season five had me heartbroken all the way through - even the funny parts were overshadowed as everything the boys tried to do seemed to backfire. Even though I admit to shedding a tear at the end of ep 22, I was kinda relieved it was over! It was exhausting. Can't wait for season 6. Oh by the way, I voted for season 4 just because there can be only one.

  19. Not a fan of Family Remains. The entire time I was wondering if the writers had finally run out of ideas. It was essentially The Benders Part 2 and the original Benders wasn't that good to begin with. Besides, I prefer my monsters supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  20. OMG, I loved Family Remains!! It scared the crap out of me! :P you gotta love SPN for this kind of horror-like episodes! and I really felt we needed such an episode after the two episode-arc about Anna. besides, I really love it when it turns out they're actually dealing with humans, not monsters once in a while ("demons I get, people are crazy", right? :P). And then, it was also kind of tragic, with the sad story of those siblings. And of course Dean's confession in the end was very surpiring and sad.

    ReplyDelete
  21. season 5 was too depressing for me, because with every new episode all the hopes and chances of sollutions were eliminated one by one. There was too less positive characters and too many angels with issues. I mean, when you have an angel getting drunk, because of the hopelessness he feels, it kind of gets really depressing. When an angel can't do anything, what can two human boys do? That's what I felt watching that season and I didn't really like it. I mean, dark is fine, great actually, but hopeless not so much. I mean, I know it's SPN, and life's not supposed to be easy there, but a little light of hope wouldn't harm anyone :P

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just to defend season 4 in your eyes a bit - it didn't introduce Becky, her first appearance was in season 5 premiere ;)
as for season 3, I wouldn't say the overall mytharc was that great, it was all about Dean running out of time and the only question was whether we was gonna go to hell or not. In this area, i think season 4 had much more questions to answer, more mysteries and unexpected moments. I'd say the mytharc was the most complete in this season. But I agree season 3 managed to have a couple of great episodes despite only consisting of 16, which is admirable ;) Bad Day at Black Rock is the best comedy episode ever, easily beating Yellow Fever, Wishful Thinking or even Changing Channels.
but then, each season had some awesome episodes and some forgettable ones, so I think this poll is more about how you feel about a season and it's atmosphere overall than about single episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Me too. Any guesses as to how many episodes into S6 before we find out?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think it's the complete opposite for most of us. We don't hate it. We wish there was more of it so the writers could have delved more into the buildup of Dean going to hell. I loved the same number of episodes in season 3 as I did in season 2, 4, and 5 and it had 6 less episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Season 4 for me.
If the question was: which season had most of my favourite episodes, I would have said season 2. But I think, as far as the season-long myth-arc goes, season 4 worked best. In terms of individual episodes, it also had my all time favourite epsiode, Lazarus Rising; some great comedy, like Monster Movie, Yellow Fever and Wishful Thinking; not to mention great eps like Monster at the End of this Book, On the head of a pin, In the beginning...Family Remains might not have been the best episode, but it was one of the scariest the show has ever done!
The only episode that I thought was really sub-par was Sex and Violence...Anyway that's just my two cents. As a whole, I think Season 4 worked best.

  26. oh thats sooo sad ahahha! But Gen gave it away with a look she had on her face a few ep before the finale

    ReplyDelete
  27. agree!!!
I dont get why seaso 3 has so many haters. I was watching wit my friend (her first time) and I kept saying OH thats right this ep is awesome! or thats the best one. hahaa. she got enoyed at one point :D

    ReplyDelete
  28. realy? I liked ruby at first cause i knew gen was playing her in season 4 but when i watched the serie again i realize how katie cassidy enoyed me to no limit OMG! and i know people will hate me for this but gosh i hate her. Loved her in harpers island, guess there is an exeption to every rule lol

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's a hard one, season 2 really got me hooked, than it just took off from there, but i'd have to say season 4, that's what I voted for, but season 5 was epic! But hell they were all epic!! But when Castiel came on, with the rest of the angels, that pretty much took the cake for me. Can't wait to see how season 6 turns out, (smiles)...man I love this show!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hmm. I get Crowley for sifting through 2 years of Ruby? I'll take that deal. Well Claudia, you've changed my mind. :-) Yeah Ruby!

BTW Bela as a demon. I could definitely have gotten behind that concept.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Gordon tops my list of recurring characters I want back. He came in when the brothers were most vulnerable. He makes a great case for a raving psycho and he brought along some other great characters like the "Stop playing with my Jesus" hunter. I love Gordon. They really do kill off all my favorites. At least Bobby has somewhat protected status so I don't have to worry about him as much. I guess that means by the end of next season I will bemoaning the death of Crowley. He's currently my favorite non-protected character. I echo your sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It definitely had the worst season premiere. It was more like a monster of the week story. And if the writer's strike led to Dean in hell then score one for the strike. I didn't realize Sam was supposed to save him. The ending was one of the things I loved best about season 3 because it was such a big risk. Sam unscathed wasn't a let down for me though because the finale secured Ruby's hold on Sam and that was worse than anything Lilith could do. Plus, I didn't think Sam whined more in season 3 than he did in season 1. Still, looking back on my favorite season 3 episodes, I did like the stand alones better.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Nearly everybody knew that Ruby was bad, only Jared and the writers thought they were shocking the audience with that reveal. lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. Agreed, season 3 could have been a better season without the writers strike although I doubt it could have managed to be my favorite since they would have never introduced the angels in season 4 and I love that part of the mythology. The thing that bucks me about season3 is the weak premiere and the emo whining of Sam that doesn't lead to anything. I know they originaly intended Sam to go darkside and save Dean and I love NRFTW with Dean dieing but without anything happening to Sam although he worries the entire season, is kind of a real downer. Season 3 has great episodes but on the mythology side it's really lacking.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I want Henricksen and Gordon back... *sigh* Sometimes Supernatural can really be frustrating with their tendency to kill everybody.

    ReplyDelete
  36. To this day I still wished they had cast Lauren Cohan as Ruby. I would have loved that snearky British demon. Oh, wait! Is that why we got awesome Crowley in season 6? lol
I liked Ruby as a character in season 3 where she had a real purpose but was never too impressed with Katie Cassidy. In season 4, I couldn't even decide if I liked Gen's Ruby since she didn't have many scenes until the final few episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think if the writers had given Ruby a bit more to do in season 4, more people would have liked her. I was bored by her character in season 4 but in the last few episodes when she started to have more scenes, I started to change my mind. I would have enjoyed it if she had managed to survive and join Lucifer in season 5.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That's my problem as well, especially in season 1. If you don't care about the monster, it's not very entertaining. Season 2 was way better in connecting the storyline of the brothers with the motw story and the overall story arc.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't know but I have heard rumors of their existence. ;D

    ReplyDelete
  40. No, I didn't asked you because you left them out. I was just curious since you started at the end of season 3 and it's a different viewing experience if you watch the seasons on dvd without waiting. So I was curious of your thoughts about Castiel and Bobby. That's all. There are people who don't like Cas and that's fine, although I don't know of any people who dislike Bobby....

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love them, too, and I certainly did not mean to leave them out! I mean, who would not love them? Both of them have their own quirks, but you have to love them! I have so much respect for Jim Beaver, simply because he has been through so much in recent years-the death of his wife from cancer and his daughter having autism-he should be a saint! Bobby is a favorite name in our family-my uncle, cousin, brother and my Dad are all Bobbys! I was not too sure of Cas at the beginning, but have found him to be quite entertaining and so funny with some of his comments!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Season 1. The perfect balance between mythology and MOTW #supernatural

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yep i totally agree it's a close one

    ReplyDelete
  44. Season 3. While I love Castiel as a character I've really disliked the portrayal of angels on the show. And all the theology was too off for me so it tempered my enjoyment of some of the plotlines. I wasn't offended like I'm sure a sterotypical conservative Christian would be though. I just thought it was silly. Still there were lots of good episodes in those seasons but season 3 really clicking on all cylanders for me.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's what I liked about season 1 too. Many of my favorite episodes are stand-alones with just a touch of mytharc. The straight up mytharc episodes tend to be high on emotion and low on snark.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I didn't like Ruby. At all. In fact, when season 3 ended, I originally wished they had killed off Ruby and kept Bela. However, I liked Ruby 2.0 better too. For me it was that this Ruby actually had a purpose in the show while Ruby 1.0 just seemed to take up space and say really dumb lines. In the end Ruby served her purpose. I still don't like the character but I liked how the plot moved because of her. Also, I loved how Dean and Sam killed her together. Completely satisfying!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I loved Henricksen too. He's in my top 5 people I wish had not died on Supernatural. For only being in 4 episodes he had a great character arc. I really liked the actor too. I'm hoping he's a Vancouver regular so he will guest star in other shows I watch.

    ReplyDelete
  48. For me, definitely season 4. Loved every season, every episode, but I've always been far more interested in the overarching mythology of the show than the standalones, and season 4 blew the overall mythology wide open. Season 3 had some amazing episodes, and Agent Henriksen was poised to be one of my favorite characters ever, but Castiel took the cake. The introduction of angels, something I've questioned ever since the early episode where Sam told Dean he still believed in angels and God, the setup of the Apocalypse and the growing tension between Sam and Dean pushes Season 4 just far enough ahead to be my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Season 4: Dean resurrecting, Castiel's line "I'm an angel of the Lord" (made me go like "holy fucking shit! O_O"), the Apocalypse near, Uriel, Alastair, Anna, Lucifer rising, Dean's trauma of going to hell...

followed by Season 5, which could have been a lot better if it wasn't for too many episodes not focusing on the Apocalypse, in the beginning of the season especially, seriously Lucifer was walking freely and the boys were just dealing with ten thousand times smaller things and laughing...but it became epic by the end with the introduction of Famine, Death, the gods and Lucifer just being hilarious in a brutal way :)
I think they couldn't get Mark Pellegrino for more episodes so they had him for 5 only...and introduced the "Sam was supposed to be THE vessel" thing

    ReplyDelete
  50. That's why I don't like that much season 1 & 2...too much "self-ending" episodes

    ReplyDelete
  51. well, Cortesse was exactly what destroyed the character for me. I just couldn't buy Ruby anymore. She seemed a totally different character as soon as they switched actresses and I didn't like that. I don't know if it was the writing or acting, but I liked season 3 Ruby much more. Pehaps the thing she was also prettier helped as well :P

    ReplyDelete
  52. I REALLY CANT PICK JUST 1 ,THEY KEEP GETTING BETTER.I LIKE THEM ALL/LISA

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think that's apples and oranges. In season 3, Ruby was just a snarky demon helping out the boys for her own (unidentified) reasons. In season 4, she had a personal relationship with Sam and was constantly in his ear. They were two very different dynamics from season to season. I'm not sure Katie Cassidy would have done as well with the material Cortesse was given in season 4.

Over all, I just liked the Ruby character regardless of the actress. I wished the character would of been kept around no matter who was playing her.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I liked Katie Cassidy more...I sort've wish she had stayed as Ruby--but I really don't mind Genevieve Cortesse--she played Ruby really well too.

    ReplyDelete
  55. It seems like season 3 would've been the best season ever if it hadn't been cut short and made choppy by the writer's strike. The buildup was amazing (Jus in Bello, SPN Christmas, Mystery Spot, No Rest For the Wicked) and Dean going to hell after all the crap they tried just spoke volumes to me about the show. Seasons 2,4,5 are all equal to me, and 1 is in last but only by an inch because it was also just SO good.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Season 4 had plenty of Ruby so season 4 wins.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Aw, that's adorable. Do you like Bobby and Castiel as well? ;D

    ReplyDelete
  58. Actually I found season 4 darker than season 5. Why was season 5 more depressing for you? Just curious. I love it when the show gets darker and more depressing in tone but for me season 5 was too comedy heavy. ;D

    ReplyDelete
  59. I know what you mean, for me it was the angels that kicked season 4 into a more epic level than the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Season 4 followed by season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I love every episode of this show, so it was so hard to pick a season. I went with season 4 though because its the first season I watched on TV when it originally aired, so its special to me

    ReplyDelete
  62. So hard to choose.....season 3, very, VERY closely followed by season 5.

    ReplyDelete
  63. have to go with season 1 followed by season 2....big fan of the MOTW episodes!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. season 4 was the best with sams powers bein introduced and lillith breaking the seals

    ReplyDelete
  65. It broke my heart to have to chose one lol. I am rewatching them with my friend and we saw all ep from season 1 to 3 and I relized i was crazy about season 3 but i got to go with 4.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Cannot vote because all of them are my favorites! I got a very late start in watching the show (end of season 3) and it took me a good while to understand everything that was going on. I love Sam and Dean!

    ReplyDelete
  67. season 5? seriously? it was way too depressing for me, and not really too exciting. I voted for season 4, I really loved it, with introducing the angels, finding out about Apocalypse, but without it on yet, with Ruby turning out evil, Sam's powers, Dean's after-hell trauma, breaking the seals, Alastair and some other cool characters. For me it was the most complete season of all.
but really, I loved them all, maybe only season 5 stays a bit behind. But still rocks ;)

    ReplyDelete
  68. They're all amazing and they're all about level but something just nudges Season 4 ahead the little bit more in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Season 5! Followed closely by Season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Season 5! Awesome performance by mark pellegrino although it was just 5 episodes... but still, I LOVE YOU MARK!
