We now have the matches and draws up and onto the system which is through the site http://www.dawgsled.com/darkufo , which is a "home grown site" that Dark has used previously in his LOST site and we have drawn a (mostly)random bracket of the top 64 shows you have helped to select over the past week. (when you have registered and are on the main home screen, under current contests, select 2010 SpoilerTV Character Cup)
Your job will be to go to this site and predict the entire tournament--from the first match through the championship final. You'll have until August 31st at 7:00 PM Eastern Time (currently, but this may be shortened) to get this done. Then the bracket will "lock", the site will switch over to "scoring and tracking" mode, and the actual matches will begin on spoilertv.com.
This gives everyone two weeks to select their results right the way through to the final.
After every match, the scoreboard on the bracket site will be updated. For every matchup that you correctly forecast the winner for, you'll be awarded points. Throughout the tournament, you'll be able to see where you stand against everyone else in the entire world.
Remember: When you’re filling out your bracket, choose the winning episode based on who you THINK will win, which will sometimes be different than the episode that you WANT to win. For the Final you also need to enter in the % amount that each episode will get in case of a tie.
We will have a very good prize in store for the winner, currently we are aiming for an Amazon Voucher that should buy you a TV box-set of your choice, or to use on whatever you fancy.
The way the competition is working is that in Round One each of the 4 brackets have 8 male and 8 female characters, and they have been drawn male vs. male, and female vs. female and then the two sexes meet from round 2 onwards. I did this to try and give both sexes a chance to gather support, and try to make it as fair and also varied as possible, to make for a more interesting competition.
I will now confirm that Elizabeth Mitchell has two entries in the competition, from my knowledge at the moment she is the only actor or actress to achieve this, so hats off to her.
Also, I had failed to notice that after the playoffs for the final places, Nathan Fillion has achieved the double characters award, for his roles in Castle & Firefly. Good work from him too!
Also the characters that have missed out due to the rule of the competition stating that a show may only have 3 male and 3 female characters, are all from LOST and are:
James "Sawyer" Ford, who recieved 59 nominations and was the 6th most nominated male character.
Desmond Hume, who recieved 23 nominations and was the 22nd most nominated male character.
Also, Claire Littleton and Richard Alpert were both excluded from the final places playoff due to the same ruling.
A major last minute change is that due to my lack of knowledge of NCIS, and a small drop in concentration as I was compiling results, I failed to notice that Tony DiNozzo and Anthony DiNozzo were the same person and therefore were listed separately against Jack Shephard and Jack Bauer in Round 1. Therefore one has been replaced with River Tam (I understand she is a female character, but she was the most nominated and voted for in the polls that missed the cut, and due to her being the 65th placed character, at this late stage she enters the competition against Jack Bauer in Round One.
A breakdown of the show nominations are as follows:
LOST 6 (3 male/3 female)
House 4 (2 male/2 female)
Friends 3 (1 male/2 female)
Fringe 3 (2 male/1 female)
Glee 3 (1 male/2 female)
Grey's Anatomy 3 (1 male/2 female)
NCIS 4 (2 male/2 female)* Dropped from 5 to 4 due to reason explained above
Smallville 3 (1 male/2 female)
Supernatural 3 (3 male)
Bones 2 (1 male/1 female)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer 2 (1 male/1 female)
Burn Notice 2 (1 male/1 female)
Castle 2 (1 male/1 female)
Chuck 2 (1 male/1 female)
Dexter 2 (1 male/1 female)
Firefly 2 (1 male/1 female)* Has risen from 1 to 2 due to reason explained above
Gossip Girl 2 (1 male/1 female)
The Vampire Diaries 2 (1 male/1 female)
The X-Files 2 (1 male/1 female)
True Blood 2 (1 male/1 female)
'24' 1 (1 male)
30 Rock 1 (1 female)
Alias 1 (1 female)
Doctor Who 1 (1 male)
Gilmore Girls 1 (1 female)
How I Met Your Mother 1 (1 male)
One Tree Hill 1 (1 female)
The Big Bang Theory 1 (1 male)
V 1 (1 female)
Veronica Mars 1 (1 female)
If you have any problems leave a message here or email lost@dawgsled.com (Do NOT email Dark!)
Finally, a big thanks to Matt for setting up the bracket, and in his email he seems delighted River Tam has made the final 64, so he gets some rewards for his efforts. Thanks to Dark as always for allowing the competition.
And have fun, don't take it too seriously, but also make sure your favourite wins.
Good Luck
Adam

In my mind, i was making a reference to the film "My Name is Nobody" (1973) with Henry Fonda and Terence Hill.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if you've seen it but it's an hilarious Spaghetti Western comedy film.
The guy called Nobody faked-killed Henry Fonda (playing a gun men) on a duel.
On the gravestone was written : "Nobody was faster than him". Got it?
Summer Glau is not nominated for Cameron (shame) but for River Tam.
ReplyDeleteA great part of TSCC revolve around Cameron learning how to feel and the relationship between her and John Connor.
Besides i'm not english native but Best Character doesn't mean Best Personality ;)
One of them is correct.
ReplyDeleteGive you a clue for the second : female
There is no internet poll without Summer Glau on it.
ReplyDeleteShe is the queen of sci-fi.
Proof : lokk at the Mega Poll - Which New Shows are you most looking forward to?
Her new show "The Cape" wins hands down.
It will be the same for the character cup.
Thanks Adam for Summer Glau's last minute addition to the tournament.
ReplyDeleteAnd sorry to all to other contestant that she will crush :)
May i correct you.
ReplyDeleteIt's Summer Glau with a "u" in the first name.
And i have a scoop for you : she will be the winner of this tournament. I consider that Cameron from Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles is a better character than River Tam but i will support the last one anyway.
Proof that Summer Glau is a tough contestant : http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/100810/sexy-beasts-bracket07_1224.jpg
I agree. I would have voted for Barney over anyone else on the list except Dean and Buffy. I keep thinking there's always next year and I will get to vote for him then.
ReplyDeleteThat was unbelievably hard to choose things I would vote against... But that's how I think things will turn out (Unfortunately) I see it coming down to the fangirls in this one in all honesty.
ReplyDeleteOopsie ! Jack Bauer will lose to John Locke before that. He won't go that far . :D
ReplyDeleteYou can pick more than one male and female character from shows like Lost and House but only one male or one female from shows like 24 or Doctor Who. Seems to me that this poll isn't set up right seeing as some shows have more of a chance for their characters to win than all the rest. In normal polls, there would be ONLY ONE female and ONLY ONE male from each show being nominated...
ReplyDeleteOn the EW Sexy Beast poll, Summer Glau is nominated for Cameron (TSCC); she basically stole the show and was almost every fans favorite character.
ReplyDeleteOn semifinal she will be crushed by 12 year old girls mass voting for Edward. Twilight has currently the most important online fan base.
When you say "beat by anyone", do you mean that Summer Glau is anyone (that would be pejorative) or is there no pun intended (remember i'm not english native)?
Edit : You know i'm just teasing you or Claudia for fun, don't you?
After the first round, i'll be glad to say to you or Claudia : i've told you, but you never listen to me girls.
ReplyDeleteMy final 8 ... Winner notified by (W) after name
ReplyDeleteBarney Stinson Vs Benjamin Linus (W)
Clark Kent Vs Greg House (W)
Jack Shephard Vs Sue Sylvester (W)
John Locke (W) Vs Sheldon Cooper
Final four
Linus (W) Vs Sylvester
Greg House Vs John Locke (W)
Linus to win by 53%
it says "emma gilbert - the vampire diaries". that should be fixed to elena.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Glee Character is Noah 'Puckerman', not Packerman... Typo :P
ReplyDeleteAhh, so that's why I didn't know that character Lol
ReplyDeleteThey are an active fan base getting stronger and they may end up with the best video to post for their character. Did you see that love letter of a video that the CW has been showing for Damon? After the Bella and Edward comment he makes, I want to watch him and I don't watch the show. Still, if there is one character more of a target in this contest than Dean, it is Damon. Anyone who doesn't watch VD will be gunning for him.
ReplyDeleteOne thing for sure, a lot of people who didn't know about the Show contest in enough time to vote in the first 3 rounds are here now and determined that their favorites not get left in the dust again. This time it's a fight from round 1 and everyone is vulnerable. Just the way I like it.
OK. I've predicted my winners and now I hope I lose. Because who I think SHOULD be in the final four and who I think WILL be in the final four are 2 completely different things. Just as long as it doesn't come down to Jack vs. Locke. Also, what's up with the 2 most nominated people going up against each other before the final round? Oh well, it does look like the Sweet 16 will have some interesting battles.
ReplyDeletegeez. 24 is screwed on this site. lost gets six??! Where is CHARLES LOGAN??? DAVID PALMER? UGH
ReplyDeletePoor Walter Bishop and Barney Stinson. Such great great characters going up against heavyweights in round 1. I guess that's part of the random draw process.
ReplyDeleteBTW it says Damon Salvatore is Supernatural... he's from the vampire diaries. I know that because I didn't remember him from SN so I googled him I realized it was Ian Somerhalder. I had to clarify that because I was embarrassed to know someone from Vampire Diaries...
Sorry for the miss-spellings etc, the names and shows pass through about 3 people via various spreadsheets, but hopefully we will iron them out! :)
ReplyDeleteThis bracket is gonna take me weeks to complete!!! How can I decide between Spike and John Locke IN THE FIRST ROUND? Never... I need a coin.
ReplyDeleteMaybe. Maybe not. There are fanboys as well aren't there? Otherwise, I don't see how Sommer Glau's character could have made it into the competition.
ReplyDeleteNancy Botwin didn't make it, nor did anyone from The Office. Sad.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with this i have is that i have no idea who half(mostly likely more) of the characters are , so its extremely hard to choose..
ReplyDeleteGoogle is your friend :)
ReplyDeletecome on, i want the final battle between man of science and man of faith
ReplyDeleteLegend! I haven't fully decided what I'm writing about each, but if you wanna give two or three a whirl and email them to me (harris_4_president@yahoo.co.uk) then that would be groovy.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing all 64 images for the characters atm, which is taking most of the time I have available for it! haha
Always good for a bit of help!
I don't want any show to have two characters in the last two rounds. That makes it uninteresting to a lot of people. Here's hoping for good variety.
ReplyDeleteEasy - vote Spike. Besides Locke is going to win hands down.
ReplyDeleteIMDB works too
ReplyDeleteI can write on Veronica Mars, Dean Winchester, Castiel, and a few others if you'd like.
ReplyDeleteYeah , using it right now, still tough to choose lol
ReplyDeleteHa lol :)
ReplyDeleteSounds good Dude. No rush atm! Cheers for the help :)
ReplyDeleteNope. Instead of fangirls I think it is going to come down to who was most ticked their show didn't win the last competition. Characters from Supernatural and Vampire Diaries have a target on their backs so for these two shows it is less about which one is truly the greatest character and more about making sure they don't meet in the finals. BTW that will never happen because my prediction is that there is no way Damon beats Locke or Jack Bauer.
ReplyDeleteFox Mulder vs Dean Winchester ought to be fun to watch as will the next round with the winner of this one. In fact, with the exception of the bottom left bracket which for me is the weakest bracket, all brackets will have at least one interesting Sweet 16 round to watch. Jack Bauer vs. Locke should provide some good comments too.
I don't remember where I had Cameron...Isn't the whole point of her being a "cyborg" that she doesn't have much of a personality?? :P
ReplyDeleteNo, that's not easy because Locke is the best part about Lost and Spike is the best part about Buffy. ;D
ReplyDeleteWe have opposite tastes because Locke is my least favorite character of the 64 (and that includes the GG kids and Meredith Gray). While pre-chip Spike might have been the greatest villain on Buffy, post-chip Spike was just sad.
ReplyDeleteShe's going against Jack Bauer in the first round. I'm not sure she'll be the one doing the crushing. That's a hard draw for any character.
ReplyDeleteCurse you for having Dean Winchester vs. Barney Stinson in the first round!
ReplyDeletelol
I love how I didn't even post what I put in the brackets and you still knew. Idk though, it seems like the VD group has been very active lately for some reason (notice how it's at least doubled every other show in the "looking forward to" poll) but I definitely think all the fanbases are up and ready for a big brawl this time. The first competition was just the beginning lol
ReplyDeleteI think the final two will be Brooke Davis and Dean Winchester. They seem to be the most popular two. Who wins i have no idea
ReplyDeleteDon't count your chickens before they're hatched. Queen of sci-fi? LOL Excuse me but Sigourney Weaver or Tricia Helfer etc. deserve that title and not little Ms Glau who can't act.
ReplyDeleteBring it on. We will see if she even makes into the final round.
ReplyDeleteI would've voted for Dwight. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm having a problem opening up the site...?
Yep, the Bracket site appears down at the mo.
ReplyDeleteeh, she's not that bad an actress. At least, not when you compare her to Eliza Dushku...
ReplyDeleteIt's up now :D
ReplyDeleteBy the way: Walter vs Ben in the first round??? That's cold :P
Here's to hoping I'm wrong : My final had Jack ending up with Damon Salvatore.
ReplyDeleteApparently on the EW poll, she's going against Edward or Jacob from Twilight. If she wins that round it will be amazing. That's a harder draw than the Jack Bauer one here.
ReplyDeleteStill this contest will be for favorite character not the sexiest so I'll stick with Jack Bauer winning that round. I'm not a fan of Jack Bauer but he is definitely a character to beat and more people have seen his character than River Tam. If Jack Bauer gets beat by anyone, it will be John Locke who does it.
:-) Let's just say I think I'm right but I hope you are right. That would mean not having Jack Bauer in the finals and that would be fine with me. Best luck to you.
ReplyDeletegod, these were some of the toughest decisions ever!!!
ReplyDeletenever imagined anything could be so hard
very excited to tsee the results though
some of my fave characters of all time were put together in round 1!!!
Lol. I know you're teasing. I'm having fun too. I love it when fans are passionate about their shows or characters. It makes polls like these more fun. You should see my long-winded, impassioned comments in defense of Supernatural in the best show contest. Just look for the longest comment on the page and then skip it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBTW kuddos on the use of pejorative. No belittling of your character intended.
Not good at all! I'm still voting Walter though...
ReplyDeleteI have Dexter Morgan winning against Jack Shephard in the final 55%-45%
ReplyDeleteI know this probably wont happen, but I choose my favourite characters so we will se
We still only have 146 completed entries. Send out the word for people to predict and get involved.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the case :)
ReplyDeleteChloe O'Brian nearly made the final 64. She just missed out.
ReplyDeleteI have officially completed a bracket and my final four are: Juliet Burke (beating Fox Mulder), Sue Sylvester (beating Jack Shephard), Clark Kent (beating Greg House) and Jack Bauer (beating Erica Evans). Then I have the final between Juliet and Jack Bauer with Jack winning 52 % to 48 %.
ReplyDeleteAdam - If you want to save yourself some time I can write up the character descriptions for Mulder, Puck, Sue Sylvester, Rachel Berry, Erica Evans, Cuddy, Jack Bauer, Wilson, Cameron, House and Scully.
Sorry I did not realize that! I didn't know she was in Firefly..still have to catch up on that. I'm just starting to get into TSCC.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's true, but usually a good character shouldn't be cardboard :) (No implications, just saying)
I just completed my bracket. In the final four, I have Dean Winchester going against Sam Winchester (with the first winning) and Clark Kent going against John Locke (with the first winning). Then in the final, I predict a Dean Winchester victory over Clark Kent, with 65% of the votes.
ReplyDeleteThat's my prediction. About my favorites, I want a Lost combat between man of faith (John Locke) and man of reason (Jack Shephard) in the final, being Jack Shephard the one to climb to the throne! :D
By the way, it's a shame that brilliant characters like Homer Simpson (The Simpsons), Dale Cooper (Twin Peaks) or Walter White (Breaking Bad) didn't get enough nominations. :/
I could help with anyone from Alias, Buffy and Lost, just tell who's the character that you need help for, if any :))
ReplyDeleteHey Dude,
ReplyDeleteIf you fancy writing about the Alias & Buffy Characters that would be grand. You can do LOST as well if your in the groove, as the more I have the more mixing and changing I can do between rounds.
Thanks for the Help
Much appreciated
I started picking strategically and still ended up with the final 4 being Dean Winchester VS Sam Winchester and Damon Salvatore VS Castiel xD But given Supernatural and Vampire Diaries got 1st and 2nd place respectively in the Best Show Ever comp, who knows.
ReplyDeleteYep, it's pretty tough. Remember that although VD got 2nd, Lost
ReplyDeleteactually got a lot more votes than VD.
thats exactly what i got
ReplyDeletei've changed it around now for sams but i'm still completely unsure, it's so hard to decide!
Funny. I only got Dean from Supernatural in the final 4. There are too many Lost fans on a site that seems to have been made for Lost. Also, don't count out the House fans. They had more people post to their survey in half a day than Supernatural did in 2 days. They've had almost 1500 votes since Thursday. That's one impressive number. I already need to change my brackets for them. I have Dean, Jack, House, and Locke in the final 4. Mind you - this is NOT how I really want it to be, just what I think it will be.
ReplyDeleteI believe Nathan Fillion also achieved Elizabeth Mitchell status. Richard Castle (Castle) and Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly) are both played by Nathan Fillion. Personally, I love all 4 of their characters and am happy they made it.
ReplyDeletei can't decide between locke from lost and damon from vampire diaries
ReplyDeleteany suggestions anyone?
I chose Locke because I have a feeling he was one of the most nominated characters and I'm pretty sure more people voted for Lost than VD in the Best Show contest. Also, Damon has a big target on his back from people who do not want him in the finals. However, VD is still on, is getting lots of publicity, and has a lot of fans, most of whom are online. They will probably be able to spread the word about the competition faster than Lost fans.
ReplyDeleteI didn't put much into reading how the poll was set up. Forgot to mention that in my last comment : )
ReplyDeleteThank you, Adam, and thank you, Dark. It will be great competition. Each round of voting will be tight. Fans of different shows and different characters from around the world will support their favorite characters and lead them to victory. Already in the first round, some great characters leave the race: Barney or Dean, Derek Shepard or Fox Mulder, Ben Linus or Walter Bishop, Jack Shephard or Tony DiNozzo. So hard to choose between them and even harder to predict who will win. But no matter how wonderful and how interesting would be a character, because the majority of fans will vote for the show, not for the character. And I think the five big fandoms will compete for who will win in this competition: Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries (definitely Twilight), LOST, Smallville, and possibly House fans.
ReplyDeleteMy prediction for the final four: Dean vs Sam; Damon vs Lock (final: Dean beat Damon)
The prediction of my sister for the final four: Dean vs Jack Shepard, Clark "Superman" Kent vs John Locke (final: Dean beat Locke).
But this does not mean that these characters are most deserving. This only means that the probability of winning more.
And yet it will still be interesting, and I certainly will watch and vote for my favorites.
Just one last question: why so long time before the competition start? I mean, that everything is ready for an earlier start.
P.S. I know that in my post a lot of mistakes, and I apologize for that. I've been studying English for only three months. I definitely need to practice more.
It is a pity that no one will understand Russian here. :D
Good luck with your predictions
ReplyDelete
