The 2010 Favourite Character Ever Cup Competition - The Final Selection

6 Aug 2010

So we have had so many nomination forms filled in, we have already closed that phase and we currently have for definite in the competition 28 of the 32 female characters, and 27 of the male characters. Therefore the idea for these two polls is to find our final 4 female characters and 5 male characters.
Some Statistics for you so far:
1)LOST has already got 6 nominations, and I can confirm that 2 characters have been disqualified because they excede the show limit, and a further two characters have been taken out of the polls today for the characters on the cusp. I won't confirm or deny any for today, so guess away. LOST also had the character with the most nominations of anyone, male or female.
2)The other shows with 3 or more definite characters in the final 64 are:
NCIS 5
Fringe 3
House 3
Supernatural 3 (Also had the top position of one of the male or female sections)
3)One actress has Two characters definitely in the final 64.
4)Some characters that have just missed the poll today are: Chloe O'Brien, Reme "13" Hadley, Tony Soprano and Adrian Monk.

Female Final Places Poll
(4 of these 13 will take the final places - You can vote for up to 3 characters)

Male Final Place Poll
(5 of 15 will take the final places - You can vote for up to 3 characters)

  1. I hope Cameron from Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles is in the top 28 females.
Cameron is one of the most intriguing character since Mr Spock.
And Summer has both grace and beauty.
Besisdes there is no internet poll without Summer Glau, the queen of sci-fi, on it.

  2. I couldn't stop gaping when I saw Serena up there. SERIOUSLY, GG fans? She is barely a character at all, seeing as she doesn't have a personality. Consider my mind boggled.

  3. Kaitlyn,

The full list has already been posted :)

  5. That's a good call. I like this scenario better than Elizabeth Mitchell. I hope you are right.

  6. I think I voted for both of them. Great! I know Firefly fans will be happy.

  7. I can confirm that I made a mistake with my totals and that both Malcolm Reynolds and Rachel Greene are through to the final 64 as well. The Spreadsheet I had started at 2 not at 1 :P

  8. So it looks like Chloe and Chandler won yay!!! From the looks of it at least in this round

  9. So, baring disqualification on the grounds of too many characters from their show having already made the field, it looks like the final entrants into the field of 64 will be Chloe Sullivan, Phoebe Buffay, Meredith Grey, and Christina Yang for the women with Rachel Green and River Tam just missing the cut. For the men, it'll be Chandler Bing, Spike, Derek Shepard, James Wilson and Puck with Malcolm Reynolds and Neal Cafferty dancing on the knife's edge.

Overall, about what I expected, give or take the Grey's Anatomy's leading man and one of its ladies for the Firefly crewmembers. Alas, it looks like Firefly will continue its unfortunate legacy of just missing the cut, to the eternal frustration of its fans, myself included.

I voted for River, Rachel, and Gemma Morrow on the women's side and Don Draper, Walter White, and Mal on the the men's side so it looks like none of my picks will advance unless there's some serious overcrowding in the bracket. While I'm disappointed that some of my favorites, especially Don and Gemma, will not have the chance to contend for the title, I am pleased to see that Lost and Fringe had such strong showings, and I'm pleasantly surprised at the NCIS love (five entries might be a little high for a procedural, but what can you do?).

So now that two of my submissions (Don and Gemma) have missed the cut and another (Juliet) seems to be locked in, all I can do is hold on to my slim hope that Omar Little had enough juice to make it through on the first wave. Whatever happens, however, I can't wait to see the bracket and get the voting started!

  10. Are you sure? I thought Dean said they only existed in legends like Bigfoot. lol

  11. Meredith Grey and Derek Shepard. Seriously? Seriously! Bah.

  12. Definitely not a myth. More like endangered species that get hunted down whenever they come out in the light.

  13. "Supernatural 3 (Also had the top position of one of the male or female sections"

There are female characters in Supernatural? LOL I think that's a myth.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Maybe some people prefer normal men to the manliest man. I sure do.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's really sad to see Don Draper with less than 100 votes. The manliest male character I can think of.

    ReplyDelete
  16. or Rachel Griffiths for Six Feet Under and Brothers and Sisters

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lauren Graham for Parenthood and Gilmore Girls is the one!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yep, exactly. These are the character who were on the "bubble" and
will be the final ones that make up the 32 Men and 32 Women of the
    final cup.

  19. This is just to make up the last of the Male and Female sections. Clark and Lois might already be in there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. LOL Why is meredith in the lead. haha. its one of the worst character ever written!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Voted! And ummm where is Clark or Lois???? OI

    ReplyDelete
  22. same thing here. I would even vote for Lassie! it's just.. Shawn himself can be kinda annoying. but with Gus it's .. harmony! (;

  23. For the female chracter poll, I picked Phoebe Buffay, Rachel Green and Pam Beesley.
For the male chracter poll, I picked Chandler Bing, Spike and Walter White.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I went with Phoebe, Rachel and Pam for the women although I really am no crazy about any of those, kinda bummed that Chole and 13 missed out :(. For the men I went with one of my nominations Don Draper, Wilson and Puck.

  25. "Some characters that have just missed the poll today are: Chloe O'Brien, Reme "13" Hadley, Tony Soprano and Adrian Monk."

    That makes me really sad...

  26. Well, unless Ellen got a lot of votes for Supernatural, I think we can assume that Dean Winchester got the most nominations on the male side. I'm guessing that leaves Juliet Burke as the most nominated character overall.

Here are my guesses for the rest:
Definites for Lost - Locke, Juliet / probably Jack, Kate and Ben / Sun or Claire
NCIS will have Gibbs, Tony, Abby, Ziva, and McGee - so sorry it won't be Ducky.
Fringe will be Walter, Peter, and Olivia (no question).
The only character I like on House is Wilson and he is on the chopping block. So that leaves House, Cuddy, and ??? don't have a clue.
Supernatural - Dean, Sam, and Castiel (for SHAME - It should definitely be Bobby)
Woman with 2 characters is Elizabeth Mitchell for Juliet on Lost and Erica Evans on V

Adrian Monk - I weep for your omission on this list. What a great character!

  27. Picked Phoebe, Chloe, Rose, Walter, Spike and Neal.

  28. I definitely agree with you. She has a lot of fans on this site since it is heavily biased towards Lost.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would guess it is for The Good Wife since it is still on. Plus people really like that show. It's one of the few shows with a strong female lead, especially on network TV. Of course, people really did like Carol too. Maybe she is the actress with 2 spots. Doubt it though - that's probably the Lost/V actress, since River Tam is on the chopping block.

  30. If Gus was a choice I would have voted for him. Did not vote for Shawn.

    ReplyDelete
  31. These are just the last few place. Did you read the post?

    ReplyDelete
  32. SRLSY? Serena vdW is winning? the girl is pathetic. and why is Shawn here without Gus? I want Gus!<3

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yep she was in ER and The Good Wife...good thought on that guess.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Summer Glau is hawt but Firefly? :P

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'd say Elizabeth Mitchell... or Jessalyn Gilsig, who appeared in Nip/Tuck and Glee.
And I'd be thrilled to see Rhona Mitra, she laso (briefly) appeared on Nip/Tuck and now stars on The Gates, but I don't think that's likely... :(

    ReplyDelete
  36. voted for Rose, Gemma and Walter White. the other ones suck :P

    ReplyDelete
  37. 3)One actress has Two characters definitely in the final 64.

I guess Liz Mitchell V and Lost. I can't think of anyone else on 2 shows.
