Site Updates

1 Jul 2010

Hi All,

We constantly try to make the site more useful and quicker to load as much as we can and as a results we have a little site update.

As you can see we have removed the "Latest Updates" section and replaced it with an interactive widget. This has a number of benefits

1) It means that we can remove a couple of the widgets from the sidebar which have been causing a few slowdowns, so the site overall should now load a little quicker.
2) The widget allows you to quickly see via the tabs all the content in all the other sections without having to leave the page and load the other sections. This means that if there is nothing of interest for you don't have to load that part of the site up first.
3) The widget allows you to see very quickly the Movies, Celeb Photos, Gossip sections of the site. It also provides a nice at a glance listing of our latest Episode Recaps, Special Articles/Announcements, Comic-Con specific articles as well as allowing you to peek inside what people are discussing in the Forum. Just click on the Tab at the top to load the content for those sections.

We'll be testing this new layout for a week or so, so if you have any feedback at all, good or bad or suggestions about what we can do better with it please let us know in the comments. We'll be rolling this out to other parts of the site later. For now it's just on the SpoilerTV Homepage.

We hope you find this useful.

  2. Hey Andy, I don't know if it's a problem on your end or mine, but when I hover the mouse arrow over an item, it doesn't line up right, for example: When I hover over the Hawaiian 5-0 comic con details, it shows an underline on the Site updates link, and so on, I tried reloading the page but got the same, also for some reason when I right click to open each thing up into a new tab it shows me flash settings and options.

  3. I'm running the latest chrome as well, but FYI I found out why it didn't line up, I had this page zoomed in to a slightly larger view, so apparently the widget only works right if you are keeping the page at default view. In other words, when you press control + to zoom it once, everything get visually larger, but apparently the widget itself, although it gets larger, doesn't compensate for the change so you have to kinda play around to find out where to place your mouse.

  5. Ah yes, thanks mate nice. I'll see if there is anything that can be done, but I doubt it lol.

At least it gave me a reason to check in IE, Firefox, Safari and Opera, all of which work :)

  6. At the moment I'm using just my Laptop mouse pointer which only has the two buttons, I'll hook up a standard mouse in a while and try to see if clicking the scroll button will still open it into a new tab or not.

  7. Ah no problem, glad I can help. By the way no dice on the scroll button to open a new tab, it seems that some of the links will allow you to open into a new window but not a new tab, and other links just show the flash player settings when you right click. Strange huh?

  8. Man, I have no idea how to find out that info, but I'll tell ya i just bought this laptop about 2 months ago, and it runs on Windows 7 64 bit, therefore it has, I assume, the latest versions of each. As for Chrome, as soon as I loaded up this laptop for the first time, (2 months ago) I immediately went online and downloaded the latest version of Chrome. I did notice some visual differences in this version, as apposed to my old Laptop's version, but I attributed it to being formated for Windows 7, As far as i know it was the regular version of chrome, as I'm not into dealing with the bugs of Beta versions so I steer clear of them most of the time. I have no idea how to check my version of Flash, I believe it came preloaded on my PC, and it occasionally updates, so... ?

  9. went to the site and it says I have Flash version 10.1.53.64 which seems to be the latest, and as for Chrome i figured it out a little earlier, I have 5.0.375.86 (Stable) version.

  10. Heh Heh! I'm such a dolt! I have been trying to get it to open in a new tab by either right clicking a selecting new tab or scroll clicking to send it directly into a new tab, and all the while I just realized that by left clicking (the normal way to open anything) it automatically send it into a new tab for me. Problem solved, by doing nothing! Ha Ha!

  14. I am not a fan of the new layout. Is there a way we can view all of the posts under a show and not have to click on the link to see exactly what is inside?

  15. Thanks Jacob, my initial testing shows it loads about 10 seconds quicker.

    Appreciate the feedback, thank you.

  16. Thanks Ricky,

What browser and version are you running. I just tested with Chrome
and it seems fine. Guess I need to test with some other browsers lol

  18. Very odd. Do you happen to know what version of Flash you have? Are
you running Stable, Dev or Beta version of Chrome?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ha lol, Yep, that's the default action lol

  20. Have you tried reloading it. We've changed it to a much faster
version. It loads a lot quicker now and does not use Flash.

  21. Hi Claire, thanks for the feedback.

We're actually investigating exactly how we can do that.

  22. Ah sweet,

    To find your flash version
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

    To get the latest
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP

To your Version of Chrome, Click the Wrench Icon, then About Google Chrome

  23. Ha, lol.

Thanks for the kind comments. Glad you like them.

  24. That's the problem, it was broken :) It was taking too long for people
to get to the info, and with more people accessing the site via their
mobile, we had to try to get the speeds up :)
