Day 29: Wow. What a day it was. The biggest day of the competition so far. And by a long shot. The X-Files fan's can be incredibly proud in defeat, on a day where all records were broken, and Supernatural has once again proven that it is now the favourite for the SpoilerTV Best Show Ever 2010 title.
Dark emailed me earlier with a really cool image to show how big yesterday was in terms of the tie. In his words this is "This is a map of all the people voting on the X-Files/Supernatural at it's height earlier."
We also had a whopping 205 tweets, over 400 comments and tons of reactions and links worldwide. I'm proud of yesterday, and I feel we still have more to come. One thing is for certain as I haven't seen Supernatural myself before, but I intend on digging out a box-set from Amazon's shelves and giving it a try. It will face LOST in what I now see as the big tie of the competition. LOST vs. Supernatural. What a day that will be. But today is the first Semi-Final, and it is The Wire, critically loved and acclaimed taking on the controversial Semi-Finalist in The Vampire Diaries. Many feel strongly that The Vampire Diaries has no place so far in the competition, and in fairness I see their angle, but it is up to both sides to prove the other wrong and claim the first ever show to reach a SpoilerTV Best Show Ever Final. We have two spots, one will be decided today. What else, but time to Let the Battle Commence...

The Wire vs. The Vampire Diaries
The Wire

Seasons: 5 (Finished)
Previous Results: R1. WON vs. It's always Sunny in Philadelphia (66.55%) R2. WON vs.The Mentalist (58.19%), R3. WON vs. Fringe (66.25%), QF. WON vs. The Office (53.45%)
Starring: Dominic West, Lance Reddick, Idris Elber
Major Awards: None

Synopsis: Each season of The Wire focuses on a different facet of the city of Baltimore. They are, in order: the illegal drug trade, the port system, the city government and bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media. The large cast consists mainly of character actors who are little known for their other roles. Simon has said that despite its presentation as a crime drama, the show is "really about the American city, and about how we live together. It's about how institutions have an effect on individuals, and how whether you're a cop, a longshoreman, a drug dealer, a politician, a judge or a lawyer, you are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever institution you've committed to."

(Update - 2:38BST: I have just been onto my Twitter and found a few offensive retweets over the Smallville/Vampire Diaries poll. Being honest, I don't feel this is acceptable, as I do this for the fun of people who visit the website. I sorted the issue the fairest way I could given the circumstances, and I hope stuff like this doesn't happen again.)

  1. Let's make The Wire one of the finalist!

  2. While I find The Vampire Diaries better than your average Twilight rip (since it came out almost 20 years ago originally) and it's darker, and less soapy than one would expect, with some potential for turning into a good series, The Wire is the only choice for this poll. We cannot allow a show in its first year to beat one of the most acclaimed series of all time.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Will the finale also last 24 hours? And will there be a 3rd place match?

    ReplyDelete
  4. This is unacceptable, just honestly. I suppose I guessed that popular opinion would overtake critical consensus, but to this length, it's silly. The Vampire Diaries, a mediocre freshman series that has barely established itself is currently beating one of the most critically acclaimed series of all time, which ran for five years, had complex characters, and actually had a metaphorical storyline. If Vampire Diaries wins, this entire competition is discredited in my eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  5. OK this is just sad after the battle last time. Only 4 comments and 200-ish votes. Let's get the X-Files/SPN brigade in here fighting for a XF/VD challenge match.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hey Adam. Thanks for the contest and Dark's map was freaking awesome, but please don't call Supernatural a favorite to win. Just like the Winchesters, we tend to do better when we are the underdogs.

Glad you are going to watch. That's what I was hoping this battle would do. We need as many actual viewers as we can get.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I would love to see Vampire Diaries against X Files... Or Lost.... lol....

Supernatural is getting the "worst" match - I mean, the better shows to fight against in the polls.

    ReplyDelete
  8. they fought agains X files... that was the biggest battle ever. they both should win something just for it lol

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh come on, Vampire Diaries might be entertaining, but it's nowhere near the caliber a of show that was The Wire.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I completely agree. I've only seen the first season of the Wire, and a bit of the last, and it was really well done (although I am more of a sci-fi head, myself). The acting and writing were phenomenal and the whole thing was just...intense. The Vampire Diaries is better than a lot of teen soaps out there, and it is entertaining, but it can't really stand up to the Wire...Plus Lance Reddick was in it ;)

    ReplyDelete
  11. The fact that The Vampire Diaries is ahead makes me want to hang myself.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It was discredited when it beat The Twilight Zone and The Simpsons...

    ReplyDelete
  13. How very true.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah seriously. There's an extremely loaded bracket and an empty bracket in which the vampire brigade is just eating away at the lack of competition.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well here is one X-Fiiles / SPN voter coming over here to see what is happening. I have tried watching TVD, and it isn't a bad show, but the Best Show Ever? It just finished its first season... How can it even be in the poll? Firefly only had 14 episodes, but that show was burned into peoples mind and it still has a strong fandom years later... No show should be considered, I don't care how "spectacular" it might be until it has had time to prove itself, either with 3 seasons of shows or with fans that can't forget it 2 seasons after it was unjustly cancelled (sorry, thinking about Firefly again)....

    ReplyDelete
  16. TVD FTW!!!!!!!! I have no clue wat the wire is about but I dont really care. I already lost my smallville, and i wasn't on last night so idk if supernatural lost or not, which i'm thinking it did cuz last time i checked they weren't past the x-files. So TVD is another show i love and i want it to go thru!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Supernatural won by a hair.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Does The Wire have any online fans or are all 128 votes so far just from people who don't want VD to win? This seems lopsided in more than one way.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Vampires are the 'bandwagon' right now, so i can see why VD is ahead in the polls. But in all honesty, VD is only in it's sophomore year...who knows where the story is going to go. On the other hand,The Wire is honest and 'realistic' in the stand point of the social-economic culture in a big city.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I just checked that and I saw SQUEEEEEE!!! I'm so happy about that now, lol

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's similiar to the worldcup. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agree, Adam calls us favorites and all Lost fans awake out of post-season6 slumber. lol

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well, it could be worse. It could be some reality tv show. Or how about Gossip Girl or 90210?

    ReplyDelete
  24. you all deserve to die in a fire

    ReplyDelete
  25. teenagegirls
they are the cancer of entertainment

    ReplyDelete
  26. it's spoilertv's fault for adding one season shows as a possible best show ever

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think people should stick to voting on what they actually *like*, rather than the social standpoints of a show, or how long it's been on air.

While your opinion about The Wire is valid, it makes it no better than someone's opinion on The Vampire Diaries. Just because someone likes the latter, doesn't mean they're jumping on the bandwagon.

The only show that deserves to win is the show that garners the most votes, as this is a public voting system. If it were about the "quality" or writing or planning of a show, then there would no doubt be a completely different outcome.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Shame.
At least, The Wire got in semi final.
The Sopranos, The West Wing, The Simpsons couldn't even make it.
    I'm kinda sad, right now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The Wire did well to get this far, beating some Tough Shows to get this far. Sadly the Second Region of the Tournament was a series of flops, with The Simpsons, True Blood, Friends all failing to reach Round 2. These are shows I feel would have gathered momentum had they grinded through the First Round, but as a result, left The Vampire Diaries with too easy a route to this stage. It was unlikely, but also, TVD has done extremely well, just not the show many were expecting

what the hell is going on with the voting here??? If you love the vampire diaries, that's fine. This knockout competition is to determine the BEST not favourite TV show. Watch just ONE episode of The Wire and anyone who apreciates great acting, authenticity, drama and even a quality theme tune will vote for The Wire every time. I'm not bashing vampire diaries but another HBO show...True Blood is far superior, in every way

    ReplyDelete
  31. TVD:
    Format: Horror (!!!)
Omg, It's just a soap. She kisses one guy all season, and oh (!!!) she kisses other guy in the season final. What a magnificent plot!!! It is so original and fresh. TVD deserves the Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Socks and bla-bla-bla!!! Come on guys, lets call this stupid show the best show ever...

P.S.I still can't believe my eyes... I hope SPN or Lost will beat TVD in final poll.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm a truly fan of The Wire, it's without any chance of doubt, one of the best show ever made.

    ReplyDelete
  33. jesus c... 2 400 VOTS!!?? shit. im scared for the final now

    ReplyDelete
  34. You can add Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles to the same category as Firefly. And they have Summer Glau in it of course :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well in the season final, it may look like Elena but it was the evil Katherine who kissed Damon.

    ReplyDelete
  36. yeah, but people cant really make the distiction between the best and their fav. even though there is one. My fav show can be gossip girl but men i would never vote for it here LOL. sadly i dont think a lot off people would proof: 2400 freken votes for vd. omg.

    ReplyDelete
  37. yeah i got a feeling that the 7000 voters of spn vs xfile and maybe the 2500 for lost will vote for whoever wins tomorrow to go agains vd. feeling pretty go right now lol

    ReplyDelete
  38. And how do you call the heroic behavior of The X-Files who is gone for so many years against a show that is still on air.
    Supernatural 3,950 votes 52%
    The X-Files 3,700 votes 48%
    7,650 Total Votes

200 votes out of 4 000 votes is not much, but enough to win :(

    ReplyDelete
  39. oh and 2500 voters but no one has the gusts to come here and defend him/herself?? come on! Let,s make this intresting say something! I promiss we will stay civilize... okay we wont but its internet im not gonna bite you. ahaha im so funny. okay siriously! speak. we are trashing what aparently is the bet show ever so come on!

    ReplyDelete
  40. OMG!! I didn,t notice. thanks now its a great show.
Geez if only i had read the books... oh wait i did.

(CAUSE I CAN READ this is for X_phile btw)

    ReplyDelete
  41. this actually makes me feel a little bit sick in the pit of my stomach. the wire without a doubt deserves 1st place on any greatest tv show of all time list, but i understand this is a voting process, democracy, bla bla bla. Paul Wesley, star of the vampire diaries went to my high school in marlboro, his real name is paul walizewski or something like that but you know you gotta have the stage name if your birth name's something like that. so even tho he has hometown advantage for me, are you fucking kidding? the vampire diaries beat the simpsons and twilight zone, two shows that are infinitely superior, and now it's about to beat the motherfucking wire in a poll hijacked by a bunch of glittery twilight freaks? honestly, you should just end this entire contest right now, it has officially become a joke. i'm all for people's right to vote about their favorite tv shows, but just because a bunch of fat girls with nothing to do over their summer vacations decided to bring this shit show to the top of your list does not mean it is the best show ever. imho you lose all credibility as a legitimate television website once you publish this. i wish i could vote for the wire 10,000 times because that's what it deserves. sorry about the rant, no one probably read this yesterday. ZOMBIE OMAR LITTLE FOR PRESIDENT

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think that we were all clear during the last round that xfile was amazing and put up a great fight.
    The true semi final:
    Sup vs X-file sup wins
Then Lost vs the Wire Lost win

then the final Sup vs Lost.
i say xfile 3 and wire 4. any way that is what i will tell if anyone ask lol

    ReplyDelete
  43. then it shouldn't be called best show ever. how about, "the best show that ever capitalized on the embarrassing phenom of twilight"

    ReplyDelete
  44. il n'y pas de quoi Chanelle! Eh oui Henry, c'est encore moi sous un faux-nom. J'espere que tu as lu mon petit message dans le thread Best Character (sous mon vrai prénom à savoir Christophe);

    ReplyDelete
  45. omg people... dont attack the voters. men I agree with what you want to say but come on dont be a jerk.

fat girls with nothin to do.. we are all on this stupid site so i think we all have nothing better to do at the moment. yeah a lot are teen girl and twilight lovers but lets not go further then this

and wow im sure you just said in your head : oh fat girl, twilight freak. yep i sound like it. hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  46. nooooo i apologize i'm sure you're not a fat twilight freak. i just can't fathom how this show can be beating the wire so horrendously. i'm sorry if i offended you, i saw this on the message board for the wire on imdb cause i am a wire freak myself, and i just had to let off some steam. guess enough people still haven't seen it.. but i mean watch the clip they have up here, even though it does basically outline the entire show, and compare that to tvd clip.. just don't understand but that's life. you're cool, my bad. have a nice day :]

    ReplyDelete

    sry for my french (haha)
btw what does "il n'y pas de quoi" mean?

    merci christophe

    ReplyDelete
  49. favorite show would do the trick, but then we couldn't argue and what's the fun in that hahah

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think its cause he was only talking to me and i'm from quebec.

It means no problem... but more polite llol. haha trop pas dans le fond...

    ReplyDelete
  51. ah thx
my french is rotten lol school does that to you ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. LOL dont worry i was defending the VD fan not myself.
And i'm thinkin about watching the wire ahah never did but yeah it looks good. And i know that this competition can get to you ahaha, I was going crazy in the smallville vs VD fight.
I,m not mad. And i voted for wire ;)

    ReplyDelete
  53. r you crazy? I'm so impress at any one who can speak and write french. Men its so hard haha. I just know one word in "Allemand" and i cant wirte it hahah. its i love you. At least its cute ;)
    any way

    ReplyDelete
  54. well if you know english, the you automatically know lots of german words:
sauerkraut, kindergarten, lederhosen, doppel, poltergeist, angst, glockenspiel, kitsch, bratwurst blutwurst jägermeister hausfrau oktoberfest birkenstock volkswagen gesundheit wunderkind....
    and so on....
my friend actually once made a list of them and it's quite long!

    ReplyDelete
  55. When I read in the comments that The Wire was losing, I honestly didn't except it to be such a big gap between them!

    ReplyDelete
  56. In my honest opinion, I was hoping the final match would be LOST vs Supernatural instead of the Vampire Diaries being a finalist.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Unfortunately, it will either be Lost or SPN to go against the winner of this round in the finals. Lost vs. SPN is the semifinal battle. How fair is that?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm sorry but I cannot vote for Lost even against VD. Let's hope it does not come down to this.

    ReplyDelete
  59. It does seem remarkably quiet on the VD front. I guess they think their numbers speak for themselves. However, if someone was trashing my show the way people are on here, I would dig in and start the battle. And how can there be so little votes for The Wire. Even if it doesn't have a strong fan presence at this site, shouldn't all the other people who trashed VD in earlier rounds be voting too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well, fav show and best show are all the same thing for some fans. TV shows, like books and music, and movies, is just a matter of opinion. This is why I don't listen to movie critics or anything because almost everything they love, I hate. And everything they hate, I end up loving somehow. I don't know how that happens. Lol.

And with voting, I'm not going to vote for a show that I don't like or don't know about just because someone else is saying it's the best show. I have to feel it is or I'm not voting for it. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  61. it's as fair as lost vs. grey's anatomy
    God I hated that poll

    ReplyDelete
  62. yeah i agree. But its nice that we can talk about our choice... and i just feel that if it was favorite show then we would have nothing to say that would mater. I was convince by some comments that some shows are great and im probably gonna try them but if i say hannah montana is my favorite show what can you say to that? i have to right to love it. but if i say its the best then some one can argue.
i know its just a word but it does make a big difference, in my eyes any way

    ReplyDelete
  63. The best and most entertaining show of all time losing to a mediocre glorified teen soap opera overwhelmingly, wow.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yeah i dont know what happened lol. I just hope they did not vote for VD and they just did not vote at all.

Exactly, if i was a fan of VD I would stand up and defend it lol. then you guys would crash me and i would cry ahaha but still

    ReplyDelete
  65. wow, what did lost do to you ahahah.
Just dont vote if it comes down to this. hope you'll suport Supernatural though. OTHER WISE ILL FIND YOU K... :D. Have I said im crazy ? XD

    ReplyDelete
  66. what i say is that some time your favorite book or tv show isn,t that good and you know it but you love it.

    ReplyDelete
  67. yeah, but considering SPN airs on CW and the X-Files was a hit of Fox, I think we have a tie here - fans of both shows did a great job yesterday and we can all call ourselves winners ;)

    ReplyDelete
  68. because you liked both shows or cause you hated lost...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Lol. Well if anyone can outgun a sleepy zombie posse it should be the Winchesters' disciples. Although it would be nice if some of them stayed in their slumber tomorrow. Should be one heck of a fight and I have plans for most of the day. Argh!

    ReplyDelete
  70. lol men thats true if Lost wins it will be two shows in witch Ian was in lol. and he had a role in smallville too. lol. HE IS EVERY WHERE i think he is the one who had the crotoan virus first and then he infected every body

    ReplyDelete
  71. yeah i'm starting my evil plan again. it worked last time hahaha. and now i've got help from a youtube ali lol

    ReplyDelete
  72. I couldn't agree more! If Supernatural loses to Lost, I'll be sad but I'll be proud it lost to a good competitor. I hope that X-files fans can see that Supernatural won a good fight and won't just vote for Lost because they're angry! lol... I hope that Lost or Supernatural will win fair and square! But for sure, Lost or Supernatural should DOMINATE TVD in the final.

    ReplyDelete
  73. The only reason I know about this site is because Supernatural is in this contest. I defend it with you to the death. Hmmm...do you think all these VD fans are infected with the Crotoan virus? That might explain it.

However, if SPN topples to that overhyped, overpraised, overexposed X-File wannabe show, Lost, I will cry, throw a mostly-silent hissy fit, and then respectively NOT vote in the final round. Just because I absolutely cannot vote for Lost doesn't mean I'm giving a vote to a freshman show that completely ruined the original books. Besides, if we were voting for which show Ian Sommerhalder was the hottest in I would have to vote for the 6-episode (?) Young Americans. Although that might have been because I was much younger then and far more shallow.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Mentally gearing up as we speak. At least it shouldn't be as ugly as this one is. How do you get in a semi-final that is this much of a landslide?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Get your tweeting fingers moving. I think this is going to be an even bigger fight than the X-Files. Hopefully, it is just as much fun. I'm kind of sad though that this is The Wire vs. VD page and we are getting almost as many comments about SPN. Oh well, if no one else will battle today I guess its okay to train for tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I haven't seen The Wire and have seen TVD (And quite like it as well) so I voted for TVD. Question: Why should the TVD fans defend the show? We believe in it and if others want to trash it, that's their choice. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and what qualifies as "best" to people is very different. The numbers just show that a lot of people seem to really like TVD, can't be denied. This contest should be titled "Which show has the biggest fanbase" because people are not voting based on what's best from a critical standpoint; They're voting for their favorites. This applies to every single fanbase besides TVD as well. Saying otherwise is plain hypocritical.

Is The Wire better in terms of Emmy begging? Probably. However, I refuse to vote for a show that I have not seen, just because people tell me it's amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  77. So Ian Somerhalder got the Crotoan virus somewhere in the SPN world. Then he passed it to the Smallville fans. Next he infect the Lost legions and has finally taken it to VD town. That explains every rabid fan base here except The X-Files. How about while in the SPN world, he gave it to the professor from Scarecrow who happened to be the Cigarette-Smoking Man in disguise. He then found a way to travel back in time using alien technology to infect the XF universe. Um...sure...this is plausible in all of these worlds. Got to love genre tv. Anyone else feel like people are going to start playing 6 Degrees of Ian Sommerhalder instead of Kevin Bacon?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  79. lol well no body is talking lol. but yeah lol I'm luchy i dont have a lot of fallowers cause they would hate me lol. 50 tweets in 20 mins.. kindda enoying ahahah. cant wait!!! 2hours

    ReplyDelete
  80. LOL I had to just stay away from that drama.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Holy crap, 3000 votes for the Vampire Diaries!?
What is going on here people!???

    ReplyDelete
  82. chanelle has... war,,, french??? I dont understand a word of that. cant even say if its real! You aren,t french???? omg. i need to learn other langage its so cool

    ReplyDelete
  83. While I think it's absolutely incredulous that it's even in this competition, you are actually selling this show kinda short. There actually was something to this show (though I'm afraid to admit it) and the twist at the end was great.

    ReplyDelete
  84. YEAH someone finaly speak up.
I dont mean that they need to defend it (yes i know thats the words i used sorry) but its weird that in the comments its all people that are like "The wire is the best..." and then you look at the vote and VD has 3000votes. This is for fun too, we are only haters bitching with other haters lol. I dont see any lovers. thats all. I agree you should vote for a show you havent seen. And VD is winning partly cause those kindda spoiler site are mostly visited by young people such as myself and this show is for teenager.

are u the katy i was speaking to yesterday??

    ReplyDelete
  85. Not by enough. Not nearly enough. They didn't even have a battle here. I'd hate to see what happens if it ever gets close. Who am I kidding? that's what I am waiting for.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Katy, you don't have to defend why you like a show. None of us have a better reason for why we like our shows. It's just more interesting to the rest of us if there are comments on both sides. I think it's more like we want to know why you think it is the best. In fact, it is a good way to get others to watch your show, which on the CW is always a good thing. Some people make hurtful, stupid comments about the fans, but most of us stick just to talking about the shows. I apologize for any rude comments because we really do want your opinion. It is going to be a very boring final if the fans of VD don't speak their mind. what we really want is a chance to talk about our favorite shows as a way to get through this long hiatus. It's more fun if the conversation is 2-sided.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Nope, not the same Katy! I just came here to quickly type out a comment because not commenting would mean that I'd be embarrassed or scared to do so. I can see why a lot of the people who voted haven't commented, what's there to say? Whatever you say in the defense of TVD, is just going to be shot down and mocked by others.

The whole concept for this contest is flawed, that's the problem and not the TVD fanbase. So they're trying to determine the best show of all time by letting fans vote? How is that supposed to work? The fans will vote for the fandom they're most enthusiastic about, quality and social perception doesn't play a part in it.

In addition, if The Wire really is that huge of a show, then how on earth is the gap that big? It is true that this site is visited by younger people, but since a lot of people seem to be voting for The Wire out of principle, the gap is shockingly big. It's easy to label all TVD fans as "fat girls with nothing to do", but the numbers don't lie. Obviously the fanbase consists of several different demographics.

  88. The guy or girl that said that (fat girl...) actually apologize btw. And it didnt happen again. just had to say

Any way i give you props for saying something. I do like VD and i'm actually sad that i seem to be the only one who is defending it a little while i dont even want it to win haha. This is for fun and wow i said that a lot im getting enoyed at myself sorry.

several different demographics... you do know that we have the numbers for that... it is a show for teenager mostly girl or you know 10 to 25, then of course there is exceotion but still.

  89. PS Everyone here knows that this contest will not prove which show is the Best Show Ever. Really, no one can objectively make that claim anyway. It's just a more fun title than Show With the Largest Fan Base Online at Time of Voting. I want Supernatural to win, but if it doesn't it's not really a big deal even if some of my comments sound like it. It simply passes the time, gives SpoilerTV more visits, and with any luck, inspires some new viewers to check out our favorite shows or revisit ones we have forgotten. Please encourage other VD fans to comment. Who knows? You might just make some of us converts. (Just ignore the vile commentors who make it a personal attack-it's there problem not yours.)

  90. "If Supernatural loses to Lost, I'll be sad but I'll be proud it lost to a good competitor."

I agree! And I would feel the same if Supernatural had lost to The X-Files.. :)

  91. LOL! Totally loved this comment!

  92. "If it were about the "quality" or writing or planning of a show, then there would no doubt be a completely different outcome."

But isn't this that "Best Show Ever" means? *blinks, confuse*

VD has a lot of fans. It's not my thing, but I can see why some people like it. However, to say that one show that only had one season is the best show ever? C'mon.... It's kind of ridiculous IMO.

I don't think that its fans can even argue about character and plots developments, to say the last.

  93. Oh and this is my favorite music video for the first season and I think it should be used for the finale instead of those sappy ones! Perfectly encapsulates the season and highlights what a genre show it is!

  94. you're right katy, sorry i said the comment about fat girls with nothing to better to do, it was obviously ignorant and i apologize again, i can be extremely cranky in the morning. i was reading the message boards on imdb for the wire and this contest came up as one of the topics, so i was astounded at the results. the fact that i was reading the wire's forum as one of the first things i did today basically makes me a fat boy with nothing better to do.

however, it should also clue you in on to what you are missing. if you want to see a show that will change your life, the way you think about everyone from the politician on top to the homeless person you step over on your way through the city, make you laugh, cry, angry, and overjoyed at the same time, check out the wire. the vampire diaries always seemed like mindless entertainment to give twilight fans something to feed on (pun intended) during the twilight movie hiatus, but it is evident that you enjoy it and it certainly deserves your vote.

the only issue i have about your first comment is the wire begging for emmys. that was what set them apart, rather than schmoozin and boozin in hollywood, david simon and the rest of the creators of the wire spent six years crafting the most dynamic and mindblowing five seasons in the history of television. the acting, writing, and direction are nothing short of breathtaking, (Andre Royo as Bubbles is probably the most real character i've ever seen on a screen) and even though it is a crime that they never received the recognition they deserved, i'm not surprised that's how this contest turned out.

please, order the dvds on netflix or just buy the first season, i can guarantee you will not be disappointed.
there are actually several colleges which teaches classes based entirely on the wire, and i'm not even kidding, i read about this show any chance i get, because it serves as a fictional storyline for some very important real issues. obviously, some fun escapist entertainment such as TVD can't really even be compared to the wire, it just disappoints me how the great that show was without getting the accolades it deserves. a single episode is better than 90% of the movies out there, and the series as a whole is just 60 hours of pure bril--sorry I sound like a broken record already.

the guardian, a newspaper in the UK, is obsessed with the wire, and they have a ton of articles, including a series called the wire: re-up, in which they write a little blog for every single episode. those are only for those who have only seen the entire show as they contain spoilers, but if you do end up watching the wire someday, remember to check out the re-up! the guardian considers the wire the greatest of all time, and that's enough for me.

i do know what you mean about emmy begging, but trust me, the wire is not like that. i would love to keep writing and writing about the show, it is on my mind way too much during the day, and that's why i posted my immature rant before. i'm just glad to be able to rewatch the series, and I hope maybe you will give it a chance. each person i turn on to the wire, i consider it a personal success. happy watching to you, hope you have a wonderful weekend too :D

  95. Personaly I'm regarding the LOST v SUPERNATURAL showdown as the final of this 'BEST SHOW EVER' competition. Whoever wins that poll tomorrow is the winner in my eyes, both worthy shows and neither fanbase should feel bad/ashamed to lose out to the other. I'm pretty sure the winner of that semi-final will be the eventual winner anyway (but hey stranger and stupider things have happened).

Looking forwards to tomorrow, I dont think there has ever been two more loyal, fierce or passionate fan bases than those of Supernatural and Lost.

  96. I agree. That is true. Some tv shows and books aren't the greatest, but you enjoy it anyway. I have a few of those. Lol.

And when it comes to saying what is the best show, someone can definitely argue their point, but it wouldn't mean they were right. And it wouldn't mean that they were wrong either.
