We all have them. The TV shows we watch when no one else is around, changing the channel at the slightest noise rather than let someone come in and catch us together. We DVR them in the middle of the night, and if anybody else sees them on our list of recordings, we make up a story about how we just taped it for the weird neighbor kid who doesn't have TiVo.
Guilty pleasure shows.
A show can be a guilty pleasure for many, many reasons. Maybe it's so far removed from your usual fare that you can't believe you watch it. Perhaps it's directed at viewers who haven't yet made it through their tweens. Could be that the show is universally panned, and you can't understand why. Or, like many things, it's just so bad, it's good.
My guilty pleasures? I watch a lot more Disney channel than I should at age twenty-four. And I've probably seen every episode of Full House at least five times, and will continue to watch until they stop showing reruns.
Tell me: what are your guilty pleasure shows?

Hannah Montana. I gotta stop doing that, lol

ReplyDeleteWizards of Waverly Place and Sonny with a chance, god help me I love Justin and Chad
ReplyDeleteGLEE, so not the type of show I would ever watch or admit to watching but I just love it. Also I kinda have a thing for NCIS:LA (its because of Chris O'Donnell, he was one of my first ever crushes). I dont really watch a lot of TV only these two plus SUPERNATURAL(best show ever) and Flash Forward this past season, so I'm hoping to pick up some new guilty pleasures this fall.
ReplyDeletewow, i dont watch 14 show of your list lol.... thats still means i watch 20 of these show hahaha! I CRAZY NEED HELP OMG!!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE genre shows, but they are not guilty pleasures for me since I don't feel guilty about them.
ReplyDeleteI also am a big kid at heart and <3 many cartoons esp. Kim Possible and Danny Phantom. I guess those would be my guilty pleasures. :)
LOL i watch NCIS LA because of Chris too hahaa. And i just saw that he was in the movie cats and dogs two hahaha so yeah i have to go see it, ill bring my 5 year old cousin so that people think im just being nice lol.
ReplyDeleteTrue Blood is not really a guilty pleasure show, is it?
ReplyDeleteIt's not like The Vampire Diaries : I watched the first couple of episodes of this show just to laugh about it, I continued and then by the end of the fifth episode, I was hooked. I hate the Twilight bullshit by the way, but TVD has a real sense of pace and nice serial storylines, I couldn't ask for more and it became the best new drama of network television (I haven't watched The Good Wife yet though). That is a guilty pleasure show I wouldn't admit I watch but it's kind of addictive.
This season I watched Blue Mountain State : a completely dumb show, the guilty pleasure as its best.
Buffy is a great show but its reputation (at least in France) is not very good (probably because of a combo with Charmed when it aired on national television). Besides, the dubbing was awful (I mean, more that a dubbing usually is) like if Buffy was just targetting the 8/12 year old girls market. Those who have watch the show know its bad reputation isn't deserved at all (which is not the case of its lead-in for 6 years, Charmed, as I said). A few years ago, the show was popular but only among teenagers, mostly girls, and Buffy serve more than that, it's a grown-up show.
I refuse to feel guilty about watching the telly but will admit to watching far too much and love anything scify or fantasy orientated. But when I found myself watching a little Canadian show called Heartland on Youtube cos it wasnt yet on DVD then that was a move too far. So maybe thats my guilty pleasure? Heartland season 3 cant wait for season 4 now, youtube here I come! and yes, I am old enough to know better.
ReplyDeleteHouse Hunters and a ton of Food Network Shows: Chopped, Diners Drive Ins and Dives, Dinner Impossible, Ace of Cakes, Iron Chef America, Unwrapped, Chefs vs City, etc.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel quilty for watching anything. TV is supposed to entertain and sometimes, maybe after a particular stressful day, I just want something easy, light or fluffy. My guiltiest pleasure was probably when I was watching Grey's anatomy on ocassion, I knew it was bad and very soapy but I loved the season with Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I cried so hard at that season finale.
ReplyDeletebefore:
ReplyDeletelegend of the seeker included
now:
grey's anatomy, chuck, how i met your mother and leverage (just included)
The Vampire Diaries. >.< It's kind've addictive.
ReplyDeleteYeah i totally understand about the guilty pleasure being so far out of your "comfort zone", for me it's Glee, coz i watch so many sci-fi and action shows
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I can't avoid watching reruns of Full House and The OC when they are on TV. I also find myself watching shows like The Jersey Shore, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
ReplyDeleteGossip Girl & The Vampire Diaries.
ReplyDeleteEpisodes of old school teen shows, from when I was a teenager and actually liked the shows (and the shows were much better than the shallow, horribly written shows on today like Gossip Girl and Secret Life): Gilmore Girls, Everwood, Dawson's Creek, the OC, Buffy.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Food Network is often what I stop on when flipping through the channels randomly on a veg-in-front-of-the-tv day. My favorite is the Challenge episodes where pastry chefs make these incredibly concoctions based on Disney characters or whatever, they're so amazing! A guilty pleasure in many ways!
ReplyDeleteMy guilty pleasure is watching Hoarders on A&E. It seems wrong in a way to look at these people lives and see all of the madness that they have accumulated, but I can't help myself. Perhaps I'm a hoarder of hoarder shows hmmm....
ReplyDeleteOMG Danny Phantom!!! I love that show!! The theme song to it is awesome, I can't help but sing along!! :D!
ReplyDeleteBig Brother (live feeds & all) yup.
ReplyDeleteOther reality shows, Survivor but I don't really call Survivor a guilty pleasure I've been watching it since the beginning. DWTS, Hell's Kitchen (or any Gordan Ramsay show), Top Chef, used to like the Rock of Love shows lol, I think Bret is gonna do another Reality TV show. Celebrity Apprentice/Regular Apprentice. I forget, there's a bunch of reality shows I call "guilty pleasure" shows.
I am right there with you, I adore them both!
ReplyDeleteIt's totally addictive, I can't get enough of that show.
ReplyDeleteFull House draws you in like a magnet and you just can't look away. Also, it's everywhere. It ended fifteen years ago and it's on ALL THE TIME.
ReplyDeleteLove Jeffrey Dean Morgan, he can do anything!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say The Bachelorette. I watch it for a good laugh...It's so stupid and scripted, yet I watch it for that exact reason.
ReplyDeleteAnother show that I might consider a guilty pleausre but I'm not to sure I feel guilty about it is Happy Town. It's actually really entertaining. I mean if you can get past the sucky acting and how ridiculous the name "Magic Man" is then it's really good. The plot is what saves it. Sucks they're cancelling it, but it's not suprising.
