Day 3: So congratulations to Firefly, Fringe, The Wire & The Mentalist for making it through to the next round. So harsh on both Legend of the Seeker and 24, which had huge amounts of votes and both would have smashed any other showdown we have already had results for, yet they came up against too tough shows in Firefly & Fringe. Watch out for these two shows in the upcoming Rounds. Also surprising was the lack of support for The Wire, which despite an east victory, only managed 376 votes, compare this with 24's 1499 votes, and you can see it's going to potentially find it tough in later rounds.
For all those who have entered the competition, once the results are updated, you can check out how you are doing here: Updated Brackets
And so today's round here sees one of the most critically praised shows of all time in The Sopranos taking on Superhero powerhouse Smallville, as well as an old versus new battle between the drug fuelled Breaking Bad and the military space drama Stargate SG1 . Also today in the other post, we have Dexter vs. Bones & Charmed vs. Gilmore Girls. If you would like to vote in either head here: Best Ever Show Round 2.2a

Smallville and Stargate beating Breaking Bad and The Sopranos............there are not enough facepalms in the world, come on people.
ReplyDeleteI like both Smallville and Stargate but Breaking Bad and The Sopranos are two of the finest pieces of TV ever to have been created.
Shameful
Exactly...
ReplyDelete"Stargate SG1" (quotations very much on purpose) beating Breaking Bad would be concrete evidence that the internet if F--ing stupid.
ReplyDeleteIf it does, it's only proof that fanboys rule the internet, rather than actual people who watch both shows.
How are Breaking Bad and the Sopranos not dominating this?!
ReplyDeleteThe Sopranos and Breaking Bad are losing. I think I resign from this competition, as I question its legitimacy.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, #smallville and #sg1 winning! I hope they do. Both awesome shows. Humor, friendship, adventure. Exactly what I want from my TV!
ReplyDeleteOk, i'm stopping right now this competition. Sopranos and Breaking Bad losing against SMALLVILLE AND STARGATE. Come on, people. Doesn't make sens.
ReplyDeleteDespite being heavily overrated, The Sopranos started a shift towards more artistic inspiration in television. It also pushed award shows to consider smaller, cable based series. Later seasons weren't as strong as the first few, but there are still numerous haunting stand-alones from across the series. Special props to leads Gandolfini and Edie Falco, as well as that Imperioli guy....
ReplyDeleteSmallville started out as a decent enough series. It came out before the WB/CW teen angst/soap opera boom was overdone, and the only teen shows around before it were acclaimed stuff like My So-Called Life and Felicity. Solid performances from the veteran actors as well as young Rosenbaum, the series hit it's high point with character pieces in season 3, before destroying itself with meandering and illogical plots using dumb devices like memory. It now may very well be the worst show on tv.
Breaking Bad is probably the strongest show currently airing. With Mad Men coming off its weakest season and Damages disappearing completely, this series along with Dexter have just come off their best seasons. With a far more interesting concept and an unlikable lead hinting at going down the path of Michael Chiklis in The Shield, this is probably the critical darling this year.
The original Stargate is one of the longest running science fiction series ever. There are pros and cons for this. The show develops a pretty interesting mythology without getting bogged down in Star Trek-like ambassador debates. However, the majority of its run is comprised of either stand alone monster of the week stories, scifi plot devices like viruses or time travel, or run of the mill generic character episodes. Though, the lack of character development is also a plus, as it rarely devolves in soap opera like the other three series on this list.
Final Votes:
The Sopranos - 9*
Smallville - 4
Breaking Bad - 8*
Stargate SG-1 - 6
people on this site are a living joke : Smallville and Stargate winning over Breaking Bad and Sopranos... you are too dumb to exist
ReplyDeletestargate sg1 is one of the most brilliant shows ever.
ReplyDeleteit deserves the win!!!
The Sopranos and Breaking Bad losing against Smallville and Stargate : this is a joke. 24 losing against Firefly is quite shocking as well, but at least Firefly has some qualities, even if it doesn't deserve to lose against 24.
ReplyDeleteI have only watched the first 6 episodes of The Sopranos a long time ago but I loved it, I'll get back to it very soon. Smallville sucks so badly it's scary, and I've never seen a lead actor looking so bored & incapable of acting properly on screen. I used to like this show though... when I was 10.
Breaking Bad is currently the best drama on tv, hands down, the first three seasons are marvellous. If Stargate is beating it right now, it's necessarily because BB is just less popular, I don't see any other explanation. Or maybe Science Fiction addicts rule the internet, apparently.
Yeah so far, the reuslts are laughable. It shows that some people who frequent this site are people who enjoy generic simple television with no depth. It's really that simple.
ReplyDeleteBreaking Bad just came off it's weakest season. Nevertheless, I voted for it.
ReplyDeletevoted sopranos AND stargate
ReplyDeletenot that much of a fanboy.
Don't kid yourself. Sopranos is good, but not as good as Smallville.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Breaking Bad should beat Stargate.
"Ok, i'm stopping right now this competition. Sopranos and Breaking Bad losing against SMALLVILLE AND STARGATE. Come on, people. Doesn't make sens."
ReplyDeleteGet over yourself. Those shows are in the past, nobody likes them. Smallville is better, which is why it's winning.
Smallville is the best show.. it really is..
ReplyDeleteThis is SO STUPID!!! I mean 24 and Buffy losing? SERIOUSLY? And now Smallville kicking The Sopranos ass??? WTF
ReplyDelete24, Buffy, and Smallville are all excellent shows.
ReplyDeleteSopranos, is just mediocre.
Anyone who is confused as to why Stargate is actually giving Breaking Bad a run for its money has obviously never watched the show. There is a reason it went on for 10 seasons.
ReplyDelete"Those shows are in the past"
ReplyDeletewow.
so because they are not new, they are worse.
you are a worthless person.
...in your opinion. Without that comment being opinionated, it is completely void.
ReplyDeleteThese polls are merely indicative of a narrow spectrum of TV Fans, with (imo) not the best taste in the world. Seeing as this show ultimately covers new television shows (that's a given), it's not suprising that Smallville would be beating The Sopranos in the polls. Which is something I believe is a joke, and I'm sure the comments here also show others feels the same way.
On another note, Smallville - the best show? Really? To each their own.
By looking at the polls, I am already a loser. I had Buffy against LOST for the final battle. Now I am worried about LOST.
ReplyDeleteVoted for Sopranos and SG-1. I don't care if Breaking Bad is the better show and has the better writing, SG-1 is one the first shows that I watched, it got a huge sentimental bonus and I will not vote against it.
ReplyDeleteNope, it's the other way round, SV is crap and Stargate is awesome :d
ReplyDeleteAnd had a spin off show running side-by-side for its last 3 seasons which went on for 5 seasons which then had another series created which has been signed for at least 3 seasons...
ReplyDeleterofl.. smallville is the best, stargate is a piece of shit, and the sopranos isn't even worth mentioning.
ReplyDeleteHum, I've got a little brother, so I watched all this shows. I do like Jack O'Neill. But he's fat now.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least, that's something true. Still, Smallville, best tv show ever? Over The Sopranos? I may be an idiot, but I still have taste.
ReplyDeleteYou're clearly an idiot. Sorry, but given how you excellently conveyed your bigotry and your wonderful logic in that post, you surely do appear to be one.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, this is more of a popularity contest than a "best show" contest which is why I haven't been participating. Take the results with a grain of salt, because the most popular show, not necessarily the best show, will win. And in both cases, The Sopranos and Breaking Bad should be winning be a huge margin if it was truly a "best show" competition.
ReplyDeleteWhat we need are voters who've exactly watched most, if not all, episodes of the series. Judging from the votes, many haven't.
To those who are confused by the voting, just keep in mind; many, if not most, sci-fi fans don't concern themselves with production values the way discerning viewers do. I think the only series of questionable set design I ever cared about was "Farscape", but I LOVED it! "Stargate", "Babylon 5", even the Xena throwback "Legend of the Seeker" (and, for that matter the beloved "Xena" and "Hercules") defy the logic of taste. The fans are TRUE fans, despite cartoonish qualities. Live with it.
ReplyDeleteOh of course. From the start of this contest it was very clear that the results would not be at all reliable. As stated, those who visit this site will of course not have prior knowledge of great shows that may not be as popular today as they once were, despite them being far better than a handful of shows that have gained many votes. And I'm sure many, many, people who insist on voting for Smallville have not seen The Sopranos. Though this does indeed apply to others shows likewise.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah, to sum up, the polls and the contest in its entirety will most likely ultimately end up being a joke.
It's just meant to be a bit of fun so that people can support and discuss their shows.
ReplyDeleteSome people are taking this FAR FAR too seriously.
It's not like it's the Oscars.
It looks like Sopranos and Bones fans are waking up at the same time; they are now ahead of Smallville and Dexter.
ReplyDeleteBut i'm not sure it will last long.
I agree with Smallville fans that sopranos has no chance. One: Smallville is still ongoing with its 10th season next year and that means something since sopranos only went 6 lol. Even desperate housewives is going longer and that just means the show sucked a lot. 2. Smallville is just purley awsome.
ReplyDeleteGO SMALLVILLE!!!!!!
SMALLVILLE! SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!SMALLVILLE!
ReplyDeleteI have seen Sopranos, S1. Didn't like it. Voted for Smallville which I'm enjoying immensely. Just because I have a different taste, doesn't mean that I'm stupid, thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteUmm, how did I miss round 1 & 2? I'm on this site 5 times a day & haven't seen a link that this started (though had I have signed onto twitter in the last 2 days I might have had a heads up I guess) :(
ReplyDeleteAnyway Sopranos losing to Smallville? Personally I don't get this but I guess my son will be happy with this one. I thought Breaking Bad was supposed to be one of the top shows these days, what's going on here?
I know I chose Fringe & The Wire, guess I better check my bracket; looks like I'm not off to a good start. I knew this particular bracket challenge was gonna be difficult to predict. Oh well, all in good fun right? :)
Agreed, I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone :P
ReplyDeleteDid I state that those who disagree are stupid? No. I stated that it's a given many who voted for Smallville will most likely have not seen The Sopranos. Again, I've no idea where you got the notion I was calling people with different opinions stupid, I just think that the results will probably end up being silly. Also, I enjoy Smallville a lot too, have for years, so just throwing that out there.
ReplyDeleteExclusive news : the finale will be Smallville against The Vampire Diaries !
ReplyDeleteHow do i know ? I come from the future and i travelled through time .
It should have been Smallville against Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles but that was in a parallel universe.
This poll is teaching me that the internet has bad taste.
ReplyDeleteSmallville OWNS, these other shows aren't even the slightest of competition!
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree but I think what we're seeing here is a generational situation.
ReplyDeleteYou make it sound like The Sopranos was cancelled because of bad ratings. The Sopranos ended on its own as did Lost; it had an enormous following (and still does).
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't sound like you know anything about The Sopranos TBH. I'm aware that Smallville is an awesome show but don't knock The Sopranos with comments like "it only went 6 seasons". My sons collection of Smallville DVD's is ridiculous; I just looked at it the other day and thought "isn't it enough already with this show?" Sometimes people just don't know when enough is enough; David Chase did as did Damon & Carlton.
That's a very apt way to put it and is indeed the case here.
ReplyDeletei love smallville and all but seriously?
ReplyDeleteanyways...the bracket site is down.....
Breaking Bad is the most recent show out of the four.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was supposed to be a "best tv show" contest? Obviously, most people voting either haven't seen Breaking Bad or The Sopranos (because they don't have cable television) or they have very bad taste. I can't believe the results of this poll. It just blows my mind. Just because a show like Stargate and Smallville continue for many seasons, doesn't mean that it is a quality TV show. If the ratings are high, it just means that people are willing to watch crap for a long time. For a TV show, you need guts to know when to quit and end the story. Obviously, the writers of Smallville and Stargate don't have any. Both shows in my opinion have jumped the shark a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteHow in the hell is Breaking Bad in the past when it just finished its 3rd season half a month ago and is prepped for a 4th?! Maybe you should actually watch that show before making dumb comments about things you don't know.
ReplyDeleteIf anything, Stargate is in the past, and Smallville... well... Smallville airs on the CW. I think that says it all.
Definately
ReplyDeleteThis is a joke? SG1 will kick your ass to BB? This is true?
ReplyDeleteThe Sopranos? lost against Smallville, competition sucks.
I think this contest should be "The most popular TV show," not "The best TV show."
exactly.
ReplyDeleteI would not worry too much about Lost ;)
