This is the Second of Day One's set of Poll in the Best Show Competition.

The first one can be found here:

Veronica Mars vs. Sex and the City
Veronica Mars

Seasons: 3 (Finished)
Format: Teen Dramedy/Mystery
Synopsis: The series is set in the fictional town of Neptune, California and stars Kristen Bell as a student who progresses from high school to college while moonlighting as a private investigator under the tutelage of her detective father. In each episode, Veronica solves a different stand-alone case while working to solve a more complex mystery. The first two seasons of the series had a season-long mystery arc, introduced in the first episode of the season and solved in the season finale. The third season took a different format, focusing on smaller mystery arcs that would last the course of several episodes.

Sex and The City

Seasons: 6 (Finished)
Format: Romantic Dramedy
Synopsis: The show was based in part on writer Candice Bushnell's book, compiled from her column with the New York Observer. Bushnell has stated in several interviews that the Carrie Bradshaw in her columns is her alter ego; when she wrote the "Sex and the City" essays, she used her own name initially; for privacy reasons, however, she created the character of Carrie Bradshaw, a promiscuous woman who was also working as a writer and living in New York City. Carrie also has the same initials, a flourish emphasizing her connection with Bushnell

The Prisoner (1967) vs. Glee
The Prisoner

Seasons: 1 (Finished)
Format: Spy/Science Fiction
Synopsis: The series follows a British former secret agent who is held prisoner in a mysterious seaside village where his captors try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job. Although sold as a thriller in the mould of McGoohan's previous series, Dangerman (called Secret Agent in its U.S. release), the show's combination of 1960s countercultural themes and surreal setting had a far-reaching effect on science fiction/fantasy programming, and on popular culture in general.
User Reviews: Edie McKearney
The Prisoner (1967) - This is "Borg Collectivism Captures Secret Agent Man." Episodes in this Cold War drama touched on such topics as hallucinogenics, mind control, dream control, and the like. No names for people, only numbers and only one man is left trying to save himself and his individuality from the masses. Those in the Village are locked into an Orwellian experience and it was amazing to see how much of what was shown in this series is now an everyday occurrence. Mail interceptions at work, web cams, surveillance - this show was created before the introduction of PCs and common access to any kind of computer networks but it's warnings now read like a blueprint for the world as we know it. If you like spy shows, psychological mysteries, counterculture defiance, surrealism, or just checking out something that was ahead of its time, it's definitely worth your attention.

Glee

Seasons: 1 (Ongoing)
Format: Musical Comedy Drama
Synopsis: It focuses on a high school show choir called "New Directions", at the fictional William McKindlety High School in Lima, Ohio. Won this years Golden Globe for best Musical or Comedy.

The Prisoner is one of the most respected pieces of fiction of all time...... and it's losing to a high school comedy.

  2. Love Jane Lynch, but hate those whiny kids. The Prisoner rocked!

  3. This is BS... This is the best show ever not the most popular ever.... If i win you can keep your prizes.

  4. Voted for Veronica Mars and Glee. I'm not a fan of VM but I strongly dislike Sex in the City. I never watched The Prisoner, too young, and I love Glee so my vote is going to Glee.

  5. Then try to get more people to vote for it! ;D Share the link on twitter, tumblr, fansites etc.

  6. wow people actually voted for glee...

i suppose there's never enough one tree hill/dawson's creek teen angst crap on the tv to satisfy.

by the way. should you even be allowed to vote for a show when you haven't seen the other? i would love to know how many teenage glee fans have seen the original prisoner...

therefore this competition should not be named the misleading 'best show ever', as it is clearly the shows most popular with people from this site that win.

for example, if this site was filled with desperate housewife fans (instead of lost ones) then we would see that show win. i feel that makes my point.

How can you compare a series that has been around less than a year to a completed one... Glee cannot become the Best show ever because it has yet to become anything... It could completely flop come season 2.

  8. kicking up a bit of a stir! Glee does have the current fanbase.

  9. I haven't seen the prisoner so i'm voting for glee. Maybe if i had seen it and found it good, i would vote for it but sadly, i wasn't even born at that time yet.
Veronica has more substance than Sex and the City so I'm voting for VM.

Your mad at people who are voting for glee but haven't seen The Prisoner. However, you're voting for the Prisoner even though you have never watched glee. I can tell you haven't watched it because your description of glee is completely wrong. Glee isn't perfect, but don't compare it to crap like Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill. There's a reason why those shows never got nominated for emmys yet Glee maybe the favourite at this point and already won the Golden Globe/ SAG Award. That reason is that Glee is actually a good show.

  11. Veronica Mars vs. Sex and the City? No contest, and I'll tell you why in two words: Jason Dohring.

  12. Its not really about which show YOU think is actually better, to win this competition you have to guess at what the general concensus will be. THE PRISONER was brilliant and critically acclaimed and arguably the better show BUT more people are likely to vote for GLEE on this site, therefore when filling out your brackets you have to go with the show thats most likely to get the votes not pick the show that you think is better.

Alot of the shows entered are ones I've never seen or even heard of so I tried to make educated guesses as to what I think will be popular and therefore get the votes (on this site). You've just got to pay attention to which shows are most popular. The nomination process at the very start of the competeition was very incitefull in determining which shows had the most followers on this site and which were likely to win. There are certain shows that have many fans here on SpoilerTV (ie LOST) these are clearly the ones that are likely to go the furthest in the competition. I'm not saying I'm gonna get it right every time because sometimes even an educated guess is just a guess and sometimes shows are just too evenly matched but its just the process I used.

Also I just want to say I watched THE PRISONER just last week (new and old versions) and while I thought the story started off good I thought the end was a huge let down.

  13. Its not really about which show YOU think is actually better, to win this competition you have to guess at what the general concensus will be.

i don't care about winning, just the results.

and from what you put forward, it seems that there are people out there voting for whatever show they think will win (instead of their favourite)? that's completely backwards (completely) and this competition/poll has just lost whatever little credibility it had...

this whole thing seems to be a bit of a poorly thought out joke. unless, of course, whoever created the thing would maybe like to explain the point of 'best show ever'? what their expectations, realistically, were?

  14. It's just a poll, it's supposed to be fun.

  15. You're such a snob. If I think GLEE is the best show ever than that's my opinion. Sorry, but comparing One tree hill with GLEE is kind of stupid. One tree hill is a (teen) drama, I would call it prime time soap, but that's not the point and GLEE is a musical comedy.
Get the 'Prisoner' fans to vote and stop complaining that more people vote for Glee!

  16. Has it occurred to no one that Glee and The Prisoner really don't belong in the same category? The Prisoner was one of the best works of fiction ever made, but that was 40 years ago. Most of the people here never heard of it, I'd say.

    ReplyDelete
  17. True. In my opinion, The Prisoner (original) is much better than Glee (but musical comedies have never been my scene). Also, Veronica Mars is far better than Sex and the City (but then again, I'm not interested in that series either). Comparing Glee and The Prisoner is silly. Comparing The Prisoner and Lost or The Prisoner and The Twilight Zone would make much more sense.

  18. actually, i didn't vote. and you feel that highlighting the fact that glee is part musical is somehow a defence? incredible..

    ReplyDelete
  19. actually i believe the term used these days for the likes of glee is 'dramady'. it's teen angst crap. granted it has a slightly original basis (that would be the musical bit) in comparison to most mainstream, conveyer belt crap, and has comedy. but teen angst it remains. and not even a complete season of it beats prisoner...

i shouldn't be surprised though when two more sublime shows are getting beat now (fringe and 24).

  20. YEAH GLEE and VERONICA MARS WON! Both are great shows.

Thank you for putting words in my mouth, because never did I defend glee purely because its part musical. In fact I actually insulted glee by saying it isn't perfect. As well, you just can't like something because the show is musical. If you don't like musicals that's fine, but you can't just not like something because its musical. You can not like a genre, but don't just assume any show in that genre is terrible because if you do than your comment that this should not be entitled 'best show ever' is incredibly hypocritical.

You also don't seem to like glee because you think that what you call 'teen angst crap' is the only reason to watch Glee. This isn't true. This is true for a show like One Tree Hill, but Glee also offers comedy and musical performances. As well its character based plot (teen angst crap) is done much better than shows like Dawson's Creek.

As well, I'm sorry for claiming that you voted for the Prisoner when you apparently didn't vote. That was me making an assumption and I'm sorry.

Finally, I do like the Prisoner and it was a difficult choice for me. Obviously in the end I voted for Glee.
