SB was fantastic tonight, but the episode was anything but great I expected so much more for this season finale, it was quite disappointing Season one's finale was way better
Of course. They made it quite obvious that Kristina has something to do with Red John. She is really irritating, I have to say. The episode was disappointing to be frank. I expected a lot more; they set the bar high for a Red John episode after His Red Right Hand, which was no doubt, the best Mentalist episode, so far. They didn't deliver, on this episode. The writing was bad, I guess. The story was never too involving. The backscore and Simon Baker held the episode from totally falling apart. The cliffhanger in the end did not feel like a cliffhanger, as it was probably intended. It seemed more like an incomplete episode. I did not get that feeling when I watched His Red Right Hand
Biggest disappointment to date. I expected so much more with all the storylines we got before. I thought there would be a fallout between Jane and Lisbon, cause it was hinted to much in the episodes before (what about the whole Bosco stuff?) but nada, they barely had three lines together. Also not much other team interaction. Adding Kristina Frye was a mistake, cause two fake psychics are just too much- she took too much screentime from the other character. And that RJ encounter was lame.Ugh no, way to go writers.
It feels like the show is trying to get back to it's roots. They had not shown the smilie in Patrick's home since the first episode. And the Forensics guy from the pilot also makes an appearance. The whole feel of the episode was quite different from what we have seen in this second season; it felt more like first season, those initial episodes. It's hard to place a finger on what aspects made it so, but its just a feeling.
Well me, too. I hate procedural shows, but I absolutely love this show and expected a really great finale episode. I'm hoping season 3 premiere will be better (we may get some answers to the cliffhanger in that episode), can't wait for it!
The person who wrote His Red Right Hand should've been asked to write the episode. I think the finale was written by Bruno Heller himself. The only other episodes he wrote this season were Redemption and Code Red, both of which were disappointing.
See, It says on wikipedia here that Ashley Gable wrote Red Badge, His Red Right Hand and Blood Money. Add 'Red Bulls' with it and you have a list of the best episodes of the season. Now here's someone who should've written the season finale instead of Bruno Heller.
Yepp, I always thought Ashley Gable was one of the best TM writers. Another one I like i Jordan Harper (I think that's his name). He wrote the episode with Mashburn (also one of the better episodes this season) and Blood Money together with Ashley. These two should do more stuff next season. And I agree that it felt like season 1's beginning which is a bit of a shame, cause I'm alsways for development character wise and story wise. Somehow I got the feeling the original idea for the finale got changed mid season or so. It seemed out of hand. The cliffhanger wasn't really a cliffhanger cause really- I do not care what happened co Frye, she was bloody annoying with her whole psychic crap. Insane woman. My guess is she's a lover or an accomplice to RJ.
Yeah, you're probably right. They probably had an idea on how to crack the season finale and changed it around, to accommodate Kristina into the story (they decided to add her in the end, I feel), and ended up making a complete mess of it.
I totally agree with you guys about Ashley Gable. Red Badge was fantastic and Blood Money was really great. But His Red Right Hand was the “real” season finale, the best episode of the show.
I have a lot of complains about this season, especially the creep and weak way they ended it, but at same time we had great things too, as for Jane/Lisbon interaction (‘til they “killed” it too), Cho, Bosco, Tunney’s brilliant acting in Red Badge… I still have hopes about this show, mostly because they have an amazing cast.
And BTW, should we like Frye? ‘Cause if they wanted it to, well, I have to say that they failed again. She’s still unbearable, at least to me.
Next season, instead of bringing Frye back again, I want Lisbon back, I want the team back, I want the good-writing back… I want The Mentalist back.
it's like Jane is back beeing more isolated from the others than before. such a shame really, because over season 2 everything processed fine (at least I thought so). showing the team finding him in the room would have been the perfect opportunity to show that there are people who care about him, like in season 1. but it was just jane and rj and that's most likely the only thing the writers care about.
yeah it seems like they just wanted to incorporate Kristina in it so it just ruined the whole episode. lisbon didn't have like ANY interaction with Jane. it was all kristina and jane.. which sucked.
I don't really like Kristina, but I don't hate her all that much either. She's a little annoying but I still liked seeing what went out between her and Jane, if only because of the development we saw on his side. That said, I am glad she's "gone" (I suppose we don't know for sure yet).
As a side note, I hope Red John was faking that voice. He sounds like a nerdy wuss.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
wish there was more lisbon. she's my favorite. too much about kristina, i don't really like her.

Did anyone else get the impression that Kristina might be Red John?

And I forgot the biggest thing back from season 1. Patrick says, 'red john is mine'. I don't believe he has said that since the pilot.

Ah, that's a shame. I'm going to be watching this later.
ReplyDeleteThanks for you summary and thoughts.
I was hoping it would be better.
