Nurse Jackie - Picked up for 2nd Season

Showtime is giving a second season order to "Nurse Jackie" after the Edie Falco drama became Showtime's most-watched series premiere ever Monday night.

"Jackie" was seen by 1 million viewers, then gathered another 350,000 watchers during its same-night repeat for a total of 1.35 million viewers. That surpasses the prior same-night series premiere record holder, "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," which opened to about 950,000 viewers last year.

The season debut of "Weeds" served as lead in, garnering a total of 1.7 million across two showings, down just a smidgen from last year (-4%).

    A bit premature, no? It's possible this is another 'Raising the Bar'-esque scenario in which a renewal is announced before the show has maintained any sort of consistency in numbers.

    agree with Joe. Why not wait until the story has developed a little bit more. On the one hand, the show has some good entertaining points, despite it not being representative of a real
    nurse's life. On the other hand, the show is extremely similar to many other medical shows.... coincidence?
