NBC New Show Promos

Two new shows hitting NBC this summer include Merlin and The Listener.

Merlin is a 13-part series that updates the story of the sorcerer of Arthurian legend in the mythical city of Camelot. The show premieres Sunday, June 21 @8pm.

The Listener centers on Toby Logan, a 25-year-old paramedic who has a big secret -- he's a telepath. The show premieres Thursday, June 4 @10pm.

Also, part of their summer line-up will include 2 mini-series, Meteor and The Storm.

In "Meteor," two massive rocks -- tumbling debris older than the solar system itself -- collide in space. The course has been altered. The target is Earth. The mini-series will air Sunday, June 7 and June 14 @9pm.

In "The Storm," billionaire Robert Terrell has fulfilled a lifelong obsession and made history with "weather creation" technology though his Atmospheric Research Institute. But during a test run, a blast of energy is sent into the ionosphere with unexpected results. The mini-series will air Sunday, July 19 and Sunday, July 26 @9pm.

  1. At least some of this info is a little old it seems - The Listener has already premiered and is currently early/mid-season. :)

The mini-series' look interesting, but man i wish the'd do fully-fledged tv shows; i hate the idea that we're gonna say goodbye to established characters and relationships at the end of the 13 eps, it makes me not want to watch at all!

  2. Ah, after a little checking it looks like it's 'premiering' on NBC despite having been shown elsewhere already. Maybe it was shown in Canada. It had to have been shown somewhere, i've watched several episodes! Anyway, nevermind me, i guess it is premiering (of a sort) in June, sorry! Man, i'm going to bed... :P

  3. Merlin is from BBC or channel in UK

  4. Pheral, if you can't cope with saying goodbye to characters after 13 episodes, how do you cope with movies? XD

Also, Merlin is more of a kid's show than anything. I've watched the whole season and while there's some good moments, it's even lighter than Doctor Who.

  5. Not very well, lol! I only do movies with characters established elsewhere in longer-lasting canon, really, or tv-movies that get lots made one after the other (like the Hallmark Jane Doe movies). Makes going to the cinema quite difficult though. My choices this year are mostly limited to Wolverine and Star Trek (not that i'm complaining about seeing either of those). :P

I hadn't realised they were just borrowing the UK Merlin - love Sam Neill. Wouldn't agree it was kids fare though; just because it's light doesn't mean it's not grownup stuff. I thought it was good all-round family stuff, but felt it was still more aimed towards older audiences rather than younger. :)

  6. Yeah, didn't mean it was *all* kids, but overall, that's the audience it's aimed at (being the replacement for Doctor Who, and, I think aired earlier). I have a theory that the show will begin to get a darker when certain themes come into play.

Anywho, I kinda liked the lightness to the show. Not everything's gotta be dark and gritty, and as far as British shows go, this was pretty well done.
