2014 Character Cup - 2B

23 Jul 2014

Congratulations to Patrick Jane, Buffy Summers, Archangel Michael, and Temperance Brennan for advancing to the third round. Yesterday saw the biggest round of voting yet with all 4 polls over a thousand votes. Thanks so much for participating. Today we have two heavy hitters in the round, including the character that got the most votes in round 1. Should be some interesting matchups. Remember to keep those pictures coming for characters going into round 3 and thanks so much to everyone who has already sent pictures. You can get them to me by either posting them in the comments, e-mailing them to me at dahne@spoilertv.com, or tweeting them to @dahne1. I appreciate any help you can give. Until tomorrow, keep commenting and happy voting!

Previous contest results - To see final rankings for all characters out in the first round, scroll to the bottom.

Polls end - Wednesday around 5 pm CST

Prediction contest results - Today broke everyone's brackets. For the first time in the contest, we don't have anyone with 100% correct. Tough set of polls. However with 4 total misses, Janna pulls into the lead once again. Here's hoping that everyone does better today.

TV Job - Yep, I am putting you to work. I've selected pictures for this round but chances are you have better ones. Therefore, it's your job to find a picture of anyone moving into round 3 or be stuck with the first thing I found on Google Image. You can pop a picture into the comments below, e-mail me at dahne@spoilertv.com, or tweet me @dahne1.  Guidelines:

1. Must be fully clothed and PG please!
2. Clearly shows the character's face
3. Is just the character and not a group thing
4. No gifs - jpeg or png only please

TV Talk Topic - Today it's all about TV pet peeves. What irks you about TV these days? Is there a TV trope you hate? Are there things ceertain genres do that drive you up a wall? Is there anything that has become so cliched that you groan even thinking about it? Is there a character that just drives you batty? Feel free to vent away. Hopefully we'll all feel better afterwards.

  1. My picks:

    1. Donna because they killed Felicity's character in season 2, making her character devolution one of my biggest TV pet peeves of last season. I don't know Donna well enough t be irked by her.

    2. Reddington - He's the most fascinating new character of last year and I've only seen Elijah in 2 episodes.

    3. May - There are not enough kick butt females on TV and I hate Hannibal.

    4. Dean - Despite all the numerous ways SPN writers have tried to dampen my enthusiasm for Dean in the post-season 3 years, they will not succeed. He's still my favorite character and it all stems from a deep, abiding loyalty to his family. He's the consummate big brother just trying to make the world better even when his own world is falling apart.

  2. Only Daryl for me today.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Some tough choices today but I ultimately went with Felicity Smoak, Raymond Reddington, Melinda May, and Dean Winchester.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I have already spoken about each of them in previous rounds so their is no need for me to repeat myself.
    1. Felicity
    2. Raymond
    3. Hannibal
    4. Daryl Dixon

Sad to see Stiles lose! But today:

    1. Felicity - sorry Donna
    2. Elijah
    3. May - don't watch Hannibal
    4. Dean! - even if I watched TWD, I'd probably still pick Dean

  7. Justyna Kubica22 July 2014 at 23:32

Just have to say ditto to everything you said about Dean. Exactly why he's my favorite as well.

    Felicity, Red, and May

  9. " female cops in high heels with hair swinging in their face when they run"

That's why the second that Nikita stopped her pursuit in one of the first episodes of the show to break the heels off her shoes before continuing is the moment I knew I was watching that show through to the end.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Felicity, Elijah, May, and since Dean is so going to win the last poll - Daryl. Last 2 polls I watch both shows. Tough.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ditto. Said all I agree with.

I also have a pet peeve of romantic shows insisting on love triangles. Triangles are so annoying and I already have to deal with that in too many books. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Felicity, Red, Hannibal, Daryl.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You think Felicity's character was devolved this season? How come?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Felicity, Red, Melinda.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's always good when the show's character is smart enough to know that high heels and running don't mix. It's incredibly frustrating when we're supposed to believe this woman is smart and capable and then they do something so boneheaded. Nikita proved she was smart and capable right from the start.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Love geometry is the bane of TV existence. I think the better question is who would want someone who couldn't make up their mind between two people. That person obviously has issues and too much emotional baggage to be waiting on a line for. No self-respecting person would put up with it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. For the majority of the first half, not only was Felicity all hung up on Oliver to a degree that was uncomfortable, jealous stalker instead of cute crush, but they also made her incompetent at her job. She kept on getting defeated by people in season 1 she would have had no trouble with. Then they have her get kidnapped a la Laurel in a completely stupid move. Argh! It was frustrating watching a smart, capable woman turn into damsel in distress, all about a man idiocy. So much so that I dropped the show, although this was not the only reason.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am feeling some strong pre-writers' strike Supernatural nostalgia as well.

lol... I feel better after reading it XD Couldn't agree more.

  20. Wow today are really hard choices.

    1. Nothing
    2. Reddington (he is amazing, James Spider is amazing, the Blacklist is amazing.)
    3. Hannibal Lecter (he is so creepy, calmed and I really like the show. Sorry Melinda, but you are still badass <3)
    4. Dean (I love Daryl, he is my fav in TWD, but I just simply can't choose him instead of Dean.)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Felicity, Reddington and Daryl.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Felicity, Elijah and May. I'm so sad Stiles is out of the competition :(

    ReplyDelete
  23. I was sad to see Stiles go so early as well, but at least 2 people are trying Teen Wolf now and one has already sped through the first season. I love that we are picking up viewers through this contest. Who knows? Maybe that will help him do better next year.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hope so about Dean. He is now the only character I nominated still in the contest. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. True that. Ah, TV.

I sent you a pic on Twitter for round 3. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I cannot say how much I loathe 'will they-won't they' shenanigans. Just once I want to see a show where two characters meet, fall in love, get together, and then proceed to STAY TOGETHER like ordinary friggin people whose relationship ups and downs aren't being dictated by sweeps ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I didn't get it. Sorry. Could you send it again?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Felicity, Red, May and Dean. Ugh at the last round. Just ugh. How did I go so wrong?? Ha.
My pet peeves: Love triangles, especially between friends and/or brothers. If the writer knows they're going that route, don't put them into a relationship with one, declaring their undying love only to have one cheat the next week. I'd rather they just be honest tarts and players.
Vampires. I am so over vampires. Sparkly, creepy, pretty. I don't care. I'm done.
Dingy females. I'm so tired of clueless women, characters who lack common sense. Tired and over them.
Schizophrenic writers. If you are a team of script writers for a show, I expect you to consult one another on a characters progress. Don't end one episode with the hero/heroine kicking ass only to open the next episode with them sad and insecure. Do you talk to each other writers? Where is the consistency?
My biggest is when new show runners come to a well established series and claim to love it. Then proceed to blow years of canon to hades while writing their version. If you loved it so much why take away everything you claimed to love? Why do you think YOUR version is better? What exactly did you love??

    ReplyDelete
  29. Felicity & Red. If they both get through to next round, I may end up in tears. They'll face off against each other and that's just a decision I can't make... :(

Pet peeves... Hm. The amount of supernatural/sci-fi shows that are now out there. Egh.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Amen! TV would have us believe that no person can ever make up their mind and then hop in and out of bed as their "feelings" dictate. Most people have a brain and a modicum of self-control and realize that relationships take work and so work at it instead of screwing their co-worker at the first sign of trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  31. everyoneissleeping23 July 2014 at 00:13

We should make a list of female characters who had the good sense to do that. I suspect it would be rather short. The only one I can think of is Shaw (POI) taking off her heels when they started getting in the way (plus, she doesn't wear heels unless there is a good reason to).

    ReplyDelete
  32. everyoneissleeping23 July 2014 at 00:22

    Why do you hate Hannibal?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh yes, and my tv pet peeve? Shipping. Not because I hate relationships on tv (though they do anger me slightly in a jealous sort of way), but because some fans want the ship put above all else on the show and then that happens and ruins the show.

    ReplyDelete
  34. LOL OUCH

    1. Felicity
    2. Red
    3. Hannibal- tough one.
    4. Daryl

  35. I think you're pretty heavily misinterpreting Felicity's character here.

A particular mis-step is the notion that "she kept on getting defeated by people in season 1 she would have had no trouble with" -- What Felicity does is "computer magic", and beyond the fact that she's good, we've never been given insight into her skill level. Everyone else in the show that uses computers utilizes similarly ambiguous 'computer magic'; therefore, it's impossible to say that she's losing "hack-offs" against people that she would have beaten in season 1, as we have no way of comparing the skill levels of her versus her various opponents.

Add to that the moments where Felicity takes physical action to save Sara's life and single-handedly de-power Deathstroke, and I can't imagine saying that she's in anyway incapable. Is she insecure? Sure. But she's always been insecure. And sometimes she does stupid things because of that... But one of the great things about Arrow is that it has the courage to make every. single. one. of its characters act like idiots on a quasi regular basis. It can go too far with this (Laurel, who always looked stupid this season), but I'm hard pressed to agree that it did so with Felicity.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Agreed. It makes zero sense why any female cop would wear heels on the job at all unless they are undercover. It smacks of bad planning and unprofessionalism. Off hand I would add Jane Rizzoli who always makes fun of Maura's heels, Kate Moretti on Perception, and I'm pretty sure Joan Watson on Elementary although she's not technically a cop.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Pet Peeves: Any time a showrunner doesn't take their own story seriously, or anytime a showrunner becomes overly self-indulgent.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Absolutely! A show runner can be the kiss of death to a show's integrity.

    ReplyDelete
  39. No I didn't and I didn't get a notice about it either. That's really weird. How about post it to yours and I'll see if I can find it that way.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Great! There's something about a good vent every now and then.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I haven't seen the last third of Arrow so I don't knwo what happened with Deathstroke. However I think it was pretty plain that Felicity had great computer skills in season 1 and that she was found lacking much more often in the first 2/3 of season 2. The rest is just semantics. I agree that every character has been a complete idiot on Arrow but Felicity's character felt desperate and generally moving backward throughout. So much so that she went from my favorite character to a character too painful to watch most of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  42. In all fairness I think I hate the show more than the character. I find it painfully slow and overall boring. It is one of the most overhyped shows currently on in my opinion. I agree that it is visually stunning but that's it's best feature.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think most peopel agree with you. There's some definite fan favorites in the running today.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Spader really does make the character. Such a layered character, absolutely ruthless nd yet capable of such kind words. One of my favorite scenes with him was when he was convincing the lady who was putting the corrupt in her own prison to turn herself in. That scene alone makes him worthy of all kinds of awards.

    ReplyDelete
  45. You and me both, but just the fact that he made it in is encouraging. I look forward to more people trying Teen Wolf to see why he is so well-loved by fans of the show.

  47. Most people missed 3 of the 4 on yesterday's polls. In fact, we are the only ones to only miss 1, since we both had Ben down and he didn't even get that far. Yesterday was so bad that you are the only one who doesn't already have a miss in the 3rd round.

As for your pet peeves - yes, yes, yes, Yes and YEEESSSS!!!!! I do not understand writers who don't even consult with the person writing the episode before them. It makes the whole series feel jumpy and characters become so OCC that you don't know which version of the character is going to show up this time. It's frustrating as a fan. The only thing worse is the showrunner (cough Carver cough) that comes in and decimates everything - characters, canon, plot - to add a fresh vision. If your vision is that fresh, write your own darn show and leave mine alone!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I expect them to go up against each other and I am fascinated to read the comments on that one. You won't be the only one having issues then. I can see why you would be sick of the supernatural/sci fi shows on TV. For me it is a godsend since there was such a dearth of it even a few years back. It does sometimes feel like it is taking over though.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Especially if the writers, producers, etc. are on social media and that's all they see.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I can understand that pet peeve. I feel the same about procedurals/cop shows. I guess it's just different tastes.

    ReplyDelete
  51. That's exactly what you should have done. I have no idea why it's not showing up for me. I even refreshed and nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Felicity, cause I actually watch Arrow, hopefully this season they'll let her be felicity from season one, Melinda from Shield, and Elijah but I think we know how this one is gonna end:-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. 1) Felicity, Arrow - I don't watch Arrow anymore but Felicity was always my favourite character. I don't watch Suits

    2) N/A - I used to watch The Originals but Elijah wasn't one of my favourite characters. I don't watch The Blacklist

    3) Melinda May, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Love her character and a great actress. I don't watch Hannibal.

    4) Dean Winchester, Supernatural - I don't watch the show anymore but I always loved Dean's character. I used to watch The Walking Dead and I liked Daryl but I prefer Dean.

Today's TV Topic: Tbh most of my pet peeves are cuased by the fans more than the show.
Love Triangles: I could write more than one essay on why I despise these!

Shipping: For a lot of reasons, it just starts too many arguments and some people get way too obsessive. Most shippers just want their ship to come true and they don't care about anything else. It just really diminishes a show for me.

When a show is run by the fans: This is like an extension of shipping since that is usually the cause. I hate it when something is written or changed on a show to suit the fans. This is rare but I also hate when the fandoms favourite character gets much more screen time and eventually becomes the main character(whether it's official or unofficial the change is very noticeable).

  54. If you click on the link above in the opening paragraph, you should see a place on the left hand side of my Twitter that says tweet to @dahne1. Put it in that box and I should get it. Or you can post it on your Twitter page. I am on it right now. Great job promoting the contest for Michael by the way. I thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Okay if this didn't work I'll just post here. I posted @dahne1 again.

    ReplyDelete
  56. About a decade ago for me it was lawyer and medical shows. I think TV is largely cyclical. Tomorrow's question was supposed to be on what genres and charater types would you like to see more of on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  57. As much as I love Kate Beckett, I'm often perplexed as how does she manage to always run the bad guys down, everytime heels and all!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Quite frankly, the Elijah va Red poll is the one I am most iffy about today. Elijah has a strong fan base and the CW does traditionally well on all internet polls. It would not surprise me at all if he won. Agree on Felicity by the way. She rocked in season 1.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The last one is why I wish show writers and other staff would stay off social media. It feels like they get too often swayed by the small, but very vocal, percentage of fans who are online. I would much rather the writers and show runner tell us the stories they have in mind and let the chips fall where they may. I might hate their vision. I might love their vision, but at least then I would know that it was really their vision and not fan fiction run amuck.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Beckett was actually the person I had in mind when I wrote the list. She's far too smart for that. Get the woman a nice pair of sneakers.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Okay post disappeared, so post again. Pic of Michael for character cup: http://ewvox.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/dominion-101-michael.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  62. Pretty easy for me today. All of my picks were up against shows I don't watch. I picked Felicity S., Elijah, Melinda May, and Dean W.

    ReplyDelete
  63. "Along those lines are genre characters who traipse around dead bodies without a single care about leaving their fingerprints or DNA. "

LOL! Even though I generally agree, I think in a lot of cases (The Strain, Helix) it's in shows that are in the Horror genre and for whatever reason, characters doing really dumb and unrealistic things are tropes apart of the genre. Just go look at Friday the 13th and Aliens or Prometheus.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Red and Hannibal! XD (but looks like Hannibal is not going to make it)

    TV Show Pet Peeves:

    1. Over explaining! I can't stand when scenes continuously are used to go back over previous scenes. I mean I don't mind if something complicated happens and the characters eventually need to take about it, but when it's something like, "Hey, remember five minutes ago when "you" did this action against someone else?!" Sleepy Hollow was surely guilty of this last season. I hope with all the new characters coming on board, we might see something more serialized and less need to go back over everything just to fill the episode...

    2. Trying to please harassing fans for harassing fans sake. So many times there are fandoms out there that if they don't get the social representation or relationships they want, they force themselves onto the creators and make everyone's life hell! But what's worse is when the creators half-bake-ingly (sorry made up a new word) fed into the demand. An example might be Mulan from OUAT. She suddenly became a bi-sexual character out of know where, and still with little expatiation (granted JC was busy with Believe). They could of just introduced a new character whom we understood that about him or her from the start!

    3. Recasting Characters! - Don't get me wrong, sometimes this works out for the better (Robin Hood on OUAT is one place where it worked), but sometimes the recast is SO different and with a character who's personality tended to be very unique of distinctive, it can really be a jarring experience...

    4. Nihilistic Endings - I don't mind one, once in while, I can understand artistically and philosophically why someone would want to express that, but if I'm honest, I prefer endings that have some kind of a silver lining or transformative quality to them. I hate investing in a show for many years just to find out someone can't change, didn't care about anyone else, and that there is a big "nothing" after going through so much! Even BSG, which I love dearly, I have to say I have a hard time getting myself motivated to rewatch it, because I felt it just had not only an anti-technology message, but a kind of seperationalist theme that went against the principal idea that these people have to learn to be a family. However, Caprica, BSG's prequel series, did help me with my hard feelings by giving me a threw line with Zoe's story in better understanding Hera's. The Sopranos however, I think is probably something that left me feeling more nihilistic, but with the Sopranos it wasn't that much of a surprise in the sense that it often homed in on something mundane...

    5. Dumb Wife and crazy teenage angst. Whether it's Homeland, Ray Donovan, or Tyrant, this seems to be a constant trend in family drama cable television. I don't always hate it, or don't think we should just have the opposite extreme, but it would be nice to see smarter kids and more take charge wives once in a while, or even a stupid husband! XD

That's all I have on the top of my head. They're probably more, but I think on the whole I do try to just go with it....

    ReplyDelete
  65. A decade ago I was 10, so I the ABC channel here in Australia had my full attention, and of course Home and Away and Neighbours because Mum used to watch them.. I still think that is a really good topic for tomorrow and it leads off nicely from today's. I'm not sure what I would like to see more of though... I may have to think about it..

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ha! You're a young'un then. I think I am going to combine 2 topics tomorrow, including this one, because I took one off the table when I added the Kickstarter campaign one yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  67. 1. Ugh, Sleepy Hollow was so bad about putting in a clip of what we just saw that they spawned a new word - recapitations. It was frustrating and the very worst type of filler. If a show didn't have your attention, then that's on them. To act like we are all incapable of remembering what happened from one episode to the next, or worse what happened 15 minutes ago is the worst kind of insult. I am nto stupid. Please stop treating me as if I am. It's like a disease that has run through the TV world and now it's the rare genre show that doesn't do it. That's what the previouslies are for, folks!

    2. Totally agree. That's one thing I never understood about Destiel fans on Supernatural. Why mess with a character that has already been established as heterosexual when you can just bring on new characters to fit whatever demographic you want? It's frustrating especially when fans think they are entitled to get what they want and go after those who say it isn't happening. Sometimes fandom can make a show less appealing. Oh and I am a big fan of made up words. Create away.

    4. If a show doesn't end well, I find myself feeling like I wasted a lot of time. For me that always includes some kind of hope for a character, even if it doesn't have to be a happy ending.

    5. Absolutely! I am so sick of bratty kids on TV, who end up being a drain on a series instead of enhancing it. Part of it is that I work in a school so the very last thing I want to see in my entertainment is some entitled, spoiled child throwing a temper tantrum. Actually I'd like to stop seeing it in the adults on my screen too. As fro dumb wives, I think I would expand to say I'd like the wives on my TV to step outside jsut that role. I completely agree on Tyrant though. If my husband forgo a castle and fiefdom for decades and refused to have anything to do with the family, I would get a clue pretty fast. Heck when my own daughter is reading news about how my father-in-law is a tyrant who kills dissidents, I wouldn't be forcing him to go back. Did she not see Not Without My Daughter? Argh! In a cast of characters I had zero sympathy for, she was #4 right after her obnoxious son.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Horror shows definitely have their fair share of idiots. I'm thinking more along the lines of supernatural shows like Supernatural, Buffy, and Smallville. Basically any show where people have to leave the dead bodies behind to protect their secret identity but end up leaving their DNA all over the place anyway. At least on Teen Wolf, they usually stay with the body, which explains the DNA but not why these kids are always first at crime scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Well in those cases, I definitely agree! :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. This round was a bit more difficult but ultimately I went with Felicity, Reddington, Melinda May and Dean.

Today's Topic - I have several pet peeves..the biggies are:

    1. Characters brought in for the sole purpose of romance and/or creating love geometry. I hated geometry in high school and that hasn't changed. Bringing back a "long lost love" particularly irritates me, especially if their only contribution to the story line is causing problems in the relationship of the leads. Likewise, even in shows where romance is the main theme of the show, the characters need something to do other than make googly eyes at each other for it keep my interest longer than 1.4 seconds.

    2. Stupid law enforcement. Anyone who watched the first three episodes of Crisis knows what I mean. I have the attention span of a gnat - if the good guys are being portrayed as too stupid to think themselves out of a paper bag while the bad guys run amok, I'm out - that kind of story telling feels lop-sided and quickly grates on my nerves.

    3. Stupid heroes. Really, can someone please kill Adalind on Grimm? How has letting her live been good for anyone on Team Grimm? I really hope Truble accidentally beheads her before the mid season break.

    4. Recasts. Discussed this one a couple days ago so I'll just leave it at that :-)

    5. Shipping. While there are certain couples that I would like to see together after a natural progression of their story lines and ample character development, I would never harass an actor or show runner about making it canon. IMO, doing so suggests that I think I can do it better and If I really thought I could do it better, I would've become a writer and not an accountant.

    6. New show runners that randomly change previously established mythology or character traits to fit a specific episode's story line or worse, cater to shippers. Raise your hand if you thought of Jeremy Carver when you read that. Yep, thought so, no further explanation needed.

    7. Situations where what the characters are doing makes no sense. I get that this is TV and a certain amount of suspended disbelief is required - such as getting DNA results back during the two minute commercial break. Fine, I can roll with that. However, situations like bad guys touching things without any regard for leaving fingerprints - and the lab techs that can't find that ridiculously obvious fingerprint, a female cop running in four inch heels, discussing the king's bastard baby in the middle of the French Court, researching/discussing aliens or supernatural beings in the middle of a bar/hallway are the kinds of things that make me groan with irritation.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sorry, Daryl Dixon but it'll always be Dean Winchester for me.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I had too much fun for a thank you (dose of highly contagious fan pride), but welcome. ha :)

10 years ago I was also ten. I don't remember a huge amount of detail of the shows we had here in Australia but I remember always watching all the cop procedurals. The csi's and NCIS and the like. Nowadays out tv is pretty much solely reality competitions like Masterchef and the block rather than airing more good scripted stuff

    ReplyDelete
  74. Reality TV is an entire category of TV pet peeves for me.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I was 11. The only adult shows I remember are Charmed and Buffy/Angel.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I love The Block - I have a weakness for renovating shows as I'm always decorating and redecorating my own house. I cringe every time the ad for the Bachelor comes on, and I'm kind of over the Voice and X-Factor.

I loved Blue Heelers, that was something Dad watched week in week out and a bit of Thomastown never went astray with me - and PJ, he was my favourite.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I watched shows like Survivor, Amazing Race, and Big Brother for years but this year was 98% reality free minus a magic show and a couple comedy shows.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I have to deal with enough bozos in my real life. I don't want to watch them on TV.

Felicity, Dean, Melinda May and Elijah Mikaelson my love. I don't watch any of the shows they were up against so I didn't have to think about any of them. I hope Elijah wins because he owns every scene he is in.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Same.

I have couples I love on shows and think the same. No harassing writers/actors. About anything really. People crazy over ships can be super overbearing.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Oh you just reminded me another pet peeve of mine is not having a good ending to a show/wrap up. I know this is often the fault of channels not giving a warning if a show's going to be cancelled, but sometimes there are no excuses.

Like if the show comes down to "it was all a dream" or the main romantic couple in a show doesn't end up together or if they slaughter everyone (talk about depressing).

Besides cancelled shows, I've never run into any major "oh no" endings, but those haunt me in my nightmares. ha

The outline of this depends on the show. Sometimes it's a happy ending, sometimes it's bittersweet, sometimes it's just about having story lines completed. I just want to feel satisfied leaving the show.

Often I have to settle and often the endings for shows that are allowed to wrap up are worthy of setting for. (Ex. I was good with Nikita's ending - happy ending, and Being Human's even though in Being Human a fav character died - it was bittersweet).

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ha, I'm a Mary Sue. I live through the characters. So no jealously here (well...maybe a little).

    ReplyDelete
  83. Dramatics have a way of boring me more than anything. I feel above whining and backstabbing chaos.

    ReplyDelete
  84. 1. Felicity Smoak: I have only watched Season One of Arrow and quite liked Felicity and her affability.
    2. Elijah Mikaelson: Not my favourite Mikaelson, but since he's the only one in the competition, he gets my vote by default.
    3. Hannibal Lecter: I am yet to watch Season Two of Hannibal, but from what I have watched of Season One, he is outstanding.
    4. Dean Winchester: No contest here; Dean has been one of my favourite characters for over four years, even as Supernatural slowly declined. I may have finally said goodbye to Supernatural after Season Nine, but Dean remains one of my favourites.

I really wanted Stiles to move on to Round Three, but I guess it was not meant to be.

    ReplyDelete
  85. It will be Red, Melinda May and Daryl Dyxon for me today.
I am currently on vacation so I might not be able to come and vote here every day. It will depends on the days I'll find free Wi-Fi and the days I won't.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Elijah, and MELINDA MAY ALL THE WAY BABY. I hope she goes far in the competition. That woman is the Queen of Badass.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Haha, I'm in the same boat! Luckily I found some free wifi :D

    ReplyDelete
  88. Female action stars in inappropriate clothes and especially high heels is a big pet peeve of mine. Wanting TV women to look "glamorous" is obviously getting in the way of realism because it's obvious that any woman, if she has a lick of a common sense, would tie her hair back/up and wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes before heading into an action-type situation. Even female athletes do that, so I think secret agents, cops, vampire slayers and other types of characters who are literally fighting for their lives would be inclined to take the "function over fashion" approach.

I agree with pretty much all of your other peeves, too. Since you mentioned stupidity for the sake of plot, one of the things that drive me BONKERS is when an all-powerful villain is a complete moron and refuses to go about his/her plans in the obvious way because then he/she would win instantly. Shows constantly create villains who are so powerful, they could squash the heroes like bugs if they did things in the simplest, most logical way, but because things have to be stretched out endlessly - with the villain eventually losing - they concoct needlessly elaborate schemes and repeteadly make empty threats that they could easily make good on. My two favorite - or should I say least favorite - examples of this are Klaus on TVD and Glory on Buffy. I also hate it when the villain doesn't just kill the hero(ine) despite clearly being able to and having no attachment to him/her that could explain it, which of course becomes the villain's undoing eventually.

On the other hand, the unrealistically smart and all-knowing villain who is always 24 steps ahead of the heroes is also annoying. My biggest example for that would be Amanda in Season 3 of Nikita. That was one of the worst character assassinations I've ever seen. From an incredibly menacing, cruel and badass but also complex and believable character, she became a caricature of a moustache-twirling baddie. Oh, and then there's the cliche of the villain who ALWAYS gets away because of the heroes' incompetence. Yeah, I have a lot of pet peeves when it comes to villains.

    ReplyDelete
  89. And if someone endlessly agonizes over whether to choose you or another person, could that someone really be that "into you"? I hate the portrayal of romance as a competition, with two characters competing for the "prize" which is the third character torn between them. It's silly.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Found wifi yay!!

Easy ones for me! Felicity, Reddington and Melinda May, all the way!

So, TV pet peeves. First of all, I hope I don't offend anyone (and I'm sorry if I do!), because when I don't like something, I really don't haha!

    1. I generally stay away from anything with vampires and werewolves!! So, sorry Teen Wolf I'm sure you're awesome, but I can't do it!

    2. I hate it when the cast it too male oriented. That's a big reason why I never got into Supernatural. I love strong female characters. They often make or break the show for me.

    3. Crazy fans. I hate the crazy fans that give all shippers a bad name!!! I'm a big shipper, but I like to go with the show. If the writers decide to break up my favourite couple or introduce some competition, I'm cool with it. I generally trust the writers, since obviously they know the characters, they're going to give us a satisfying outcome for the character. So even if Jane for example hadn't finally made his move in the season 6 finale, and Lisbon went with Pike, I'd be happy because the writers would probably have plotted it out in a way that made sense. You'll never catch me part of any twitter campaign for ships, or harassing the actors and writers and saying that MY ship should be canon or whatever. If it isn't, it isn't. Those are the ones that make the Internet think we're absolute loonies. Enthusiastic fans are one thing, but there's a line!

    4. Over flirtyess. I can't stand Bones and Castle level romance. I find it a bit too cheesy. Like the undercover kiss, Freezer almost I'I love you' and him walking in on her in the bath (though there bomb thing was a change) were all too tropey for me. IMO those things can be managed in fanfiction if well-written. When it's on TV it makes be cringe. I like the more subtle stuff, like Mentalist. Though that did change in the last couple of seasons, mostly because the story was going that way, and they developed the characters accordingly.

    5. Telling us everything all at once! I need a hook. If you give me everything in one episode, chances are I'm not coming back for more. Liz finding the box in the Blacklist pilot was a great hook and had me running back. With Sleepy Hollow however, they basically told us the whole premise in the first episode. I knew what they were going to try and do: save the wife, stop the horsemen, blah blah, but it didn't really interest me enough to stay and watch it happen. I guess maybe I prefer mysteries and formula-type shows.

    6. This isn't a peeve so much as a preference. I don't like depressing things or very gory stuff. So as brilliant as True Detective and Homeland are , I can't get that into them. I still watch them on and off, but I try not to get too involved. Walking Dead and GOT are shows I stay away from mostly because of the gore factor. I'm not squeamish, it's just that my mother HATED us watching anything super violent. She thinks it's unnecessary, and generally psychologically scarring lol. So I guess now I'm just in the habit of avoiding it.

    7. Teenagers. I don't like shows based on young people. I'm young myself, but I feel older characters are so much more complex and interesting. Plus I hate the constant sass. I find it annoying, not cute. The Gilmore Girls brand of sass was especially irritating! Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars are similar shows are try to avoid. Veronica Mars was also too sassy for me. Even though I love Kristen Bell, and detective stuff, it was a bit too much. I make an exception for One Tree Hill because of Sophia Bush. But even then I only watch the post school episodes, and only if I happen to catch them on TV. Sometimes I go out of my way for cool Brooke scenes, but that's it.

I think that's it haha. I probably have more, but I can't think if any more now. I know I have a lot when it comes to books lol. Nice TV show topic! It felt good to vent!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I have this vision of you taking a massively deep breath after getting this all off your
    chest :-D
    (OOC?)

I agree with a bunch of the items you list but they're mostly just annoyances. The only two that make me actively sneer on sight are (1)Women in unrealistic high heels. (2) Size 0 actresses (especially if they're over 25) If I see the bones in your elbows you're too skinny. Eat a fr---something.

Intelligent characters doing something stupid cause the writers are too lazy to put in the extra work to get where they want to go without dumbing down a character.

Vamping. (LOST.... though I blame ABC) Buffy's foot taller stunt double (in later seasons)

This one is primarily a daytime soap trope (though Ringer did it) Characters discussing dire secrets behind open doors.

But really....it's the freaking high heels.

    ReplyDelete
  92. The murder victim in the Hawaii Five - 0 fan voted episode. LOL (she was smart enough to take her heels off before running further.....then was pushed over some stairs and landed on the spiked heel.)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Usually the stunt woman is NOT wearing heels. Buffy used to be loaded with flubbed shots so you could spot the shoe change..

    ReplyDelete
  94. Red has taken the lead!!!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Donna, though I´m not caught up with Suits, Donna is my favorite on the show. I like Felicity aswell, but she is not my favorite on Arrow.

Elijah, though I like Klaus better. I also love Red, just don´t know him aswell.

Hannibal!! I love his character and Mads portrays him so well. Sad to see he might not make it.

Daryl, my favorite TWD character. Love how he has been developing through out the seasons. Use to like Dean too, but stopped watching Supernatural many years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  96. With that said, is Castle done?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Donna vs Felicity. Should not be allowed....

    ReplyDelete
  98. everyoneissleeping23 July 2014 at 14:22

    Ouch... XD

    ReplyDelete
  99. That's a good one!

    ReplyDelete
  100. UT OH Red's falling behind again. Wow, Daryl's getting blown out. :O

    ReplyDelete
  101. OMG. Yes to stupid law enforcement. I could not watch the Following, because the FBI on that show drives me nuts, nuts nuts!!!XD

    ReplyDelete
  102. I watch MAOS and HANNIBAL and I am extremely suprised and shocked that May is in the lead :O I voted for Lecter and Dean :)

    ReplyDelete
  103. Hey, you're right about Elijah he's giving Red a serious run, which makes me very HAPPY!! And Felicity character to me has really devolved this past season, I don't recognize her anymore, I'm not a computer whiz at all that was one of the things I looked up to her about that and her being a strong independent woman, they've turned her into this needy person, I hope the right this in the upcoming season, and if need be get her with
Oliver already so she can stop all this crazy angst!! Sorry I vented:)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Felicity & Hannibal today.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I voted for Felicity, Elijah, and May. I don't care much for Supernatural and I was never interested in The Walking Dead.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Rabia Salvatore23 July 2014 at 16:31

Oh gosh Elijah is only ahead by 18 votes. I can't watch.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Yikes! At that point life is jsut stacked against you and you're doomed any way you go.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Thanks so much for the picture. Sorry it was such a pain to do.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Exactly. If someone is that indecisive, they most certainly are no prize. Outside of Hollywood and high schools, do people really have this much trouble deciding who they want to be with?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Agreed all around. The suddenly stupid villain bugs me to no end as well. They spend the time building the villain up, he gets away time after time, and them they realize there's only 3 episodes left so the villain gets inexplicably stupid so the heroes can defeat them? Say what? That was Rebecca on White Collar this year. World class con woman who gets struck by the stupid stick for love. Blech. Apparently love makes you lose all sense of self-protection and brains even after years of being trained as a spy. Makes no sense at all and I really liked the character until then. I also agree the bringing on unnecessarily powerful villains is a big mistake. Glory is a great example. Lucifer and Michael on Supernatural too. SPN tried to go from beatable to epic way too fast and it's part of why I'm less enthused about seasons 4 and 5. Yeah let's have two humans take on Satan literally. Great plan. The villain always, always being ahead of the hero just makes the hero look dumb, which is never a good plan. That's why The Following was frustrating and why I dropped Crisis midway through. The bad guy cannot always win until the last episode. It's unrealistic and frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Mostly it was a massively deep sigh that it posted and I didn't lose the whole thing. :-)

    OOC - out of character

Lazy writers are a pet peeve in and of themselves for me. Create a show Bible. Look up the freaking canon. Something. I have to say that I noticed Buffy's stunt double but to be honest, I usually just watch the first 3 seasons and then some misc. episodes when I do a rewatch. Secrets told where anyone can hear bug me every time. Don't come whining when people hear you, you idiot.

The sugar daddy concept is old, but I feel like it is somewhat going away at least in the shows I watch. Nice trend to end. I do agree that characters that rise freakishly fast in their jobs are annoying too. I realize it's not as much fun to show reality in your drama, but it keeps me from getting distracted every time the character is at work or mentions it.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I guess I will often pay a visit to Starbuck Coffee or McDonald's ;)
I don't know I have a right to quote brands, excuse me if I don't.

    ReplyDelete
  113. It is done for me. When it became all about Castle and Beckett getting together, I dropped it.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Vent, vent away. It's fun.

I don't care if Felicity gets with Oliver or not as long as she becomes an independent character again. Needy is the perfect word for her in season 2. It was frustrating and made me hate the character when in season 1 she was my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Elijah, Hannibal and Daryl. Can't believe that only one of them has a chance to enter next round.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Went with Donna and Red don't watch the other shows.

My biggest pet peeve are certain fandom/shippers that demand having things their way. The creators having to pander to them drives me up a wall and usually turns me off to the show itself..

    ReplyDelete
  117. I dropped Crisis as well for that reason. I'd already been burned by The Following, so I wasn't about to start that again. I love the idea of Trubel ending Adalind. Actually anyone ending Adalind. If they must keep her alive, can't she go with Meissner. That's the only time I liked her. As for shipping, fan bullying is still bullying even if it's harrassing TV people. I have no time for bullying and I wish TPTB got more diligent about blocking people and reporting them to social media if I can't convince them to get off it entirely. And yes, I did immediately think of Jeremy Carver for #6. Argh!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I was seriously advocating for the FBI to sue The Following for defamation of character it was so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  119. As I said on Twitter, no big deal. :)

    ReplyDelete
  120. Lucky you. It makes voting that much easier.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yeah, I didn't like at all what they did with Amanda's character.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Rebecca and Elijah tied in nominations so we had a run-off poll to see which would represent the show. Hopefully next year the one you prefer will get the most nominations. I am completely with you with Dean. I may not watch SPN anymore but it doesn't mean that any character has replaced Dean for me.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I hope you are having a great time. Thanks for making us a part of your vacation.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I'm dropping it this year cause of that. So annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I got your e-mail but I had just come from the eye doctor when I got it, so I couldn't actually see anything well enough to read. I'll answer you today when I finish here. Hope your vacation is going well.

    ReplyDelete
  126. There's no ban on brand names as far as I know. I understand your pain by the way. I spent a good part of one day of vacation trying to find an internet cafe because I was going through withdrawal symptoms.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Yes Starbucks is always friendly with their Wifi :)

    ReplyDelete
  128. Ouch. I hope everything's okay! Don't worry about it. It is, thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  129. Glad to hear vacation's great. The eye doctor was just a routine thing. At 42 I am joining the world of glasses finally. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  130. I am pleasantly surprised that May is winning here. She is indeed a great kick butt character. Still, next round I'm voting against her.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Glad you could join us.

    1. I completely understand. Not all shows are for everyone. I hate westerns so no matter how awesome one is, I'm not watching that show.

    2. While I can take a male-oriented show, especially if it's in a genre I like, I do prefer shows with strong, kick butt women. I think mostly because there is a dearth of them. If a show has a strong woman who can take down the bad guys, I am almost guaranteed to try it out.

    5. We are opposites here. My big pet peeve is when they draw the mysteries out and barely give any answers. I dropped The Blacklist midway through and then caught up in hiatus because of its glacial pace, but I adored Sleepy Hollow with its constant action and answers and new questions.

    6. Depressing shows I avoid, especially if it feels like the whole point is to show how bleak things are. They also tend to be at a standstill when it comes to plot. I am now done with The Leftovers because it has gotten nowhere at all as far as a plot goes and I dislike all the characters. Gore for me goes on the same lines as violence, nudity, and crusing. If there is an actual story point to it then I can tolerate it. If not, it has to go.

    7. For me it depends on the teen. They can either make ro break a show for me even in small roles. I loved Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls (pre-adultery) and Alexis saved Castle for me in the beginning. I guess I like when Hollywood goes beyond the bratty teen stereotype to show teens in a much mroe complex light, like reality. A brat will take me out of a show quicker than anything. For example, as much as I would like to love Chasing Life, that bratty sister had me saying no way and I dropped it. The opposite would be The 100, which was a wonderfully complex show even if it has an abundance of teens on it.

    8. I have no idea why this is a constant plot either. Whether cops or soldiers, you should know what you're getting into before you get married. That just makes sense.

Glad you got to vent and that you found wi-fi to join us.

    ReplyDelete
  132. It is going to be very, very close. Usually I can create the next round post at least a couple hours in advance and have it ready to go. I have a feeling today will not be one of those days.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Donna is definitely a highlight on Suits.

    ReplyDelete
  134. The ranking system is all done by the numbers so sometimes (often in my case) favorites go up against each other far too soon.

    ReplyDelete
  135. For as popular as The Walking Dead is on TV, it has never done very well on SpoilerTV. I have no idea why since a lot of scifi/fantasy/horror fans are on here. A real anomaly.

    ReplyDelete
  136. i think it's again a matter of how many people watch the shows. SHIELD has a lot more audience here, while Hannibal is more along the lines of a small cable show, regardless of being on a network.

    ReplyDelete
  137. When I was composing my nomination possibilities list, it shocked me to see just how few great female roles there have been in the shows I watch (mainly genre). Of those, usually there is only one main female. If there are more than one, one of them is usually tied to a male character. In all these years, we really have not made much progress on the Bechdel test.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I expect them to flip back and forth all day. It is fun to have one so close though. Keeps things interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I never thought I would drop a show because of the fandom before, but it's now becoming a regular thing. They more I use social media to communicate about TV, the harder it is to separate the show from the fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I love how frustrated people are getting with love triangles because hopefully it will become a no-no in writing rooms throughout Hollywood. They are just so boring now.

    ReplyDelete
  141. So true, it's a sad state of affairs (pun not intended) isn't it in today's media when women's motivations are still largely tied to a man. It's one of the reasons I enjoy Orphan Black so much...though it can be criticised from the opposite side of the spectrum as I don't think any of the men in it ever talk about anything except the women in the cast, lol.

Even a show like The Musketeers which had some very strong female characters in, which must be applauded in itself considering the male dominated genre and time, had difficulties with the test in season 1. Ninon probably came the closest, but even then she had to fall for Athos and it was undone pretty quickly during her scenes with Milady, lol. I'm hoping that this is something that will improve slightly in season 2 from the little bits of hints we have had come through from the set so far.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Even here at Spoiler there are many shows that i watch but stopped commenting about because of the fandom/shippers.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Here-here for the no-no!

    ReplyDelete
  144. She was literally my favorite character in the first 2 seasons, and by the end of the third I was yelling "FFS, kill her already" every time she appeared on screen. I'm seriously bitter about that. I also hate how the fascinating, twisted Alex/Amanda relationship from the first 2 seasons disappeared afterwards. As villainous as she was, there had initially shades of grey in Amanda's character, and in S3 they sacrificed that to make her this obsessive vengeful psycho: "I will teach Nikita a lesson, mwahahaha". *groan*

    ReplyDelete
  145. LoL,glacial pace! It was pretty frustrating at times watching The Blacklist but somehow i managed to stick with it.. And oh do i miss Alias and Jennifer Garner, now she could kick butt!

    ReplyDelete
  146. I think Hannibal is one of these shows you often mention that not many people have been exposed to yet, hence it losing traction as the competition wears on and it comes up against better-known shows.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I like the way you think!

    ReplyDelete
  148. And let´s not forget women like Carrie, Rebecca and Nola on Banshee. Very strong women. :-) I love that they have their own storylines and though it often envolves a male character, they come off strong, with great personalities.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Funny isn´t it, so many people hate love triangles, but yet the shows that have love triangles are usually very popular.
Love is such a big part of life, and I think it has a place in all shows. I love seeing characters fall in love on TV. Dragged out love triangles....not so much. It´s unnatural and silly, and the show would have to have another really good plot for me to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  150. When Mulan magically became bi-sexual is when i started to become less interested in OUaT. I got so annoyed with Kitsis and Horowitz for trying to appease the crazy fans. It was blatantly obvious why this happened that i lost respect for them. Another show that comes to mind is Castle...

    ReplyDelete
  151. I agree whole heatedly. I don't have a problem with love triangles (or other love shapes), only if it's something that's constantly being played with or "dragged out" as you have said, and/or is the series' only relationship/plot focus, but I find that many shows have multiple relationship focus anyways...

    ReplyDelete
  152. Well it's not like they couldn't of pleased them another way. Don't get me wrong, I think they handled that wrong, but I do feel bad for the writers, producers, and actors for some of these TV series, because some of these fans are so blatantly out of control, that for ratings sake, I think they feel pressured to cave into demands :(

    ReplyDelete
  153. You have just hit on one of the reason I adore Banshee, it is one of the few shows that does pass the test a fair amount of the time, although as you say their conversation/motivation does often boil down to a man; either partner, mentor or father generally. I quite like Siobhan for example, but she barely ever has anything to do outside of work with another character that doesn't involve her love life, and now it's also brought up while she is working too cos of the Hood affair, lol. So to me it's quite obvious why many people don't get on with her as much as they do some of the other characters on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Yes but you have to find one first and sometimes, this is not easy !

    ReplyDelete
  155. Thanks and the pleasure is mine :)

    ReplyDelete
  156. It's like you always say the show's name doesn't make people want to see, they hear the name and they think why would I watch a show about some teenagers running around howling at the moon. I remember when I was watching the first season of Once Upon a Time (when it was good) I told a friend of mine you should check it out you will like it and she told me I don't really want to watch an animated series! Shows titles can do some serious damage sometimes, people hear the name and immediately form an opinion even if they know nothing about the show.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I like Siobhan too. She is no where near as strong as the other 3 girls, but it would seem strange if all the female characters on the show would be as fierce as Carrie and Nola. It would almost seem unnatural to me if she did not fall for Hood, so I found that part of the story very realistic. It´s not a love triangle (at least not like it would be in other shows).

    ReplyDelete
  158. Yes. It's high time the world invested in free Internet instead of trying to make the tallest building everywhere!

  159. Rabia Salvatore23 July 2014 at 23:06

Ok so that was a really close poll!! My Elijah made it through by 8 votes!

    ReplyDelete
  160. Yep, waste of money...
And you hear everywhere on the news we are in a time of crisis...
OMG, we are so off topic !

    ReplyDelete
  161. Thanks for the link. I don't have time write now since I am 2 reviews, 2 recaps, 1 podcast, and 1 column behind right now. However I will keep it in mind as I get more time.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I think Trophy Wife had the same problem. No way I wanted to watch some show about a rich wife doing squat like some bad reality TV show. In the end, Trophy Wife ended up being one of the warmest, most uplifting pieces on current family life of the season.

  163. This is the worst thing social media has done in the entertainment field. Show runners and writers need to tell their own story, not be swayed by ever changing fan demands. It's liek they always say, you can't please all of the people all of the time. Now they only seem to write for the most vocal, which is a terrible way to go.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Exactly. I think it is hard for people to understand that no matter how great the character is, if people haven't seen them they aren't going to vote for them. It's above all a numbers thing.

  165. I always kept coming back to The Blacklist and I watched the finale live, but I really think this is a show I enjoy better by marathoning. The pace doesn't bother me as much then. This season i think I am going to watch it 5 episodes at a time, after of course watching the premiere live. It's not a show I am so hooked on that I will mind being spoiled.

  166. Ninon was one of the best characters last year even if she had a sad ending. I kind of hope they revisit her again someday. I almost always like the females on Musketeers in the beginning, but I still have a very difficult time with D'Artagnan and Constance screwing each other.

  167. I really do need to try Banshee. I hadn't heard of it until a little before this contest.

  168. Closest one yet! I love when it is close instead of all blowouts.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Me too although that isn't always because of shipping fans. Sometimes I drop commenting when the fans don't seem to want to take a realistic look at their show so if you mention one thing that is not positive, they get really upset.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Ya,bascially that's what i meant but i should of clarified myself better.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I know what you mean I didn't like the name too but I didn't watch the show because I try to stay away from abc new comedies since they have been short lived lately but from what I've heard about the show it was good it's a shame it got cancelled.

  172. If you get a chance, you should see the Christmas episode because it was hilarious and I don't think you'd need to see any of the others to get it.

    ReplyDelete
  173. It's me, not you. I have been reading comments more quickly today because I was running late after podcasting.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Especially when they start making actual threats over them. I don't think I will ever understand that kind of thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I have The Following in my Netflix queue but keep pushing it out because I've heard that it's worse than Crisis. If Crisis drove me crazy in three episodes, I don't know that I'd make it thru one of The Following!

    ReplyDelete
  176. I love Meisner so if keeping her alive was the only way to get him back, I could probably stick it out but I really, really, really long for a scene where Adalind tries to break into Nick's house (again) and Trubel beheads her old school Grimm style right in the living room. I'd be throwing socks of joy for a change!

The shippers that bully I will never understand - especially the ones that go so far as to threaten physical harm. What kind of logic makes them think that's OK?

**sigh** Carver. He has one more chance to redeem himself. If S10 isn't kick ass, then SPN will have to be relegated to the "binge watch when the DVD comes out" pile. Pains me to say it, but there it is.

  177. I watched all of season 1 of The Following and slightly over half of season 1 of Crisis. In my opinion, Crisis was much, much better. The Following was far more violent and gory though. There was a lot of torture porn type violence, which I cannot stand.

  178. "Mostly it was a massively deep sigh that it posted and I didn't lose the whole thing. :-)"

I almost spit water all over my keyboard. :-)

I think the really young super starts is mostly a feature thing. Television seems to be more willing to hire actresses that make more sense (visually et al) in a part where as features seem to only want the hot babe unless the character a Mom or a Grandmother. (I hope this trend has changed but only a few years ago I was told never to put a female character's age in a script because many actresses will NOT play a character that is *stated* to be over 40 because it will adversely affect their ability to get a job playing a younger character even if they don't look 40.)

for some reason I have it in my head that Buffy hired the new stunt woman at the beginning of season 3. It was positively distracting for. me. EVERY fight sequence I would be staring at the screen looking for the tells.

  179. "Throwing socks of joy"

Ha! I really like that plan. I am good with Trubel beheading Prince Douche as well. Maybe she can go for double points.

I really hope Supernatural is better this season for all the fans. They deserve it.

  180. Oye, if the Crisis feds are the comparative geniuses then perhaps I'll just take it off my Netflix queue. Not a fan of gratuitous violence so between that and the stupid law enforcement, think I just need to give this one a pass.

    ReplyDelete
  181. I like that plan! I can see the "innocent" look on her face when she looks at Nick and says "you didn't like them, right?". Her character has to be one of, if not thee best addition to a returning show last season.

I just got caught up on today's postings and there were interviews with Jared and Jensen and it sounds like Jensen is enjoying the challenge of playing Dean in a different way and Jared mentions multiple times that Sam's character is returning to the "do what it takes to get my brother back" way of thinking. I remain cautiously optimistic but there are so many new shows I want to check out this year that I won't be as patient as I was in S8 and S9.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Actually Trubel won my Best New Character (Recurring Show) award for last season. She was awesome. I heard that Sam is actually going overboard looking for Dean a la Mystery Spot, which is encouraging. At least Carver learned from that huge msitake in season 8.

  183. I wish I had. It was the first show I hate watched. In the end I was only watching it because I started tweeting with Kyle from Show Ratings and some others and tweeting with them was almost worth having to watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  184. I love the show, there is a fair bit of nudity/sex and quite violent (prob more so in the first season than the second) but it's a very tight plot with great acting and direction.

    ReplyDelete
  185. That is such a shame. I really hate the double standard for men and women in Hollywood. It's no wonder more are heading to TV.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Yeah, I'd agree with that, and I like their pairing up too, I think that she's a very good influence on him and grounds him in a way that he needs. Hopefully he will be able to open up to her more in the future and they will work out.

    ReplyDelete
  187. This seems to be a problem with sci-fi/fantasy shows like TVD, Buffy, Supernatural or Heroes: they have to keep upping the ante by introducing villains who are more and more powerful. By contrast, the heroes usually don't get more powerful over time so their ability to go toe-to-toe with the baddie becomes less believable every time. In a show that's set in a non-supernatural world, the villain's "power" is usually brainpower, or else influence, connections and the likes, so there's more wiggle room to introduce different types of villains that the hero(ine) is still believably able to contend with.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Agreed. I think the core problem for these shows though is that they are not content to gradually make the villains bigger. They try to go nuclear within a few years when they do not have to and then afterwards they can't figure out how to go further, which just means more plot devices and outlandish plots.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Thanks. That actually helps me know that this show is not for me, even with strong female roles. Nudity and graphic violence is not for me.

    ReplyDelete
  190. I did wonder if it might not be for you, it is a bit full on in that regard to be fair.

    ReplyDelete
  191. I appreciate the heads up. I would hate to work hard to find it only to be disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  192. I think you'd definitely prefer The Fall to Banshee, it's just as hard hitting and serious, but more of a thriller and the violence isn't in your face but more of a, hmm, generally creepy or implied nature. It's basically Gillian Anderson trying to get into the mind set of the serial killer in order to track him down within a Northern Ireland back setting. Obviously there are killings, but even then it's more about the psychology of what goes on around before and after the death rather than the murder itself...trying not to give too much away here, lol.

  193. I think I've always been big on mysteries since I was a kid. I can do the time, as long as it's not an epic letdown.I caught Blacklist during the midwinter break, so I was able to binge watch the first ten. That was fun. After that the waits were really really hard! It is a good show to binge watch. Specially with NBC planning another epic break for the Superbowl...

I haven't tried the Leftovers yet, I have been planning too though. I have a feeling I might not like it either...especially the dog scene I've heard about in the first episode :(

Alexis is pretty cool! She's cute. I've been thinking of watching The 100. I might after I catch up with all my other shows.

I think it's a ridiculous plot-line, and lazy writing. People aren't so lame in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  194. Okay, that's good then. Haha, I hope you managed to find a pair you like. I'm always afraid I'll need glasses because I spend so much time on my computer!
