Scene Of The Week - March 23, 2014 - POLL

23 Mar 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

ARROW, "Suicide Squad", March 19, 2014, Actors: David Ramsey, Audrey Marie Anderson, Michael Rowe
The Scene: Diggle teams up with Lyla to save Deadshot
Sylvie C:
I always love how Diggle is basically a good person. Even if he knows Deadshot is a murderer, he saved him because it was at that moment the right thing to do. I also happen to love their interactions.

BATES MOTEL, "Caleb", March 17, 2014, Actors: Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, Max Thieriot
The Scene: Norman and Dylan fight
Macie Potts:
Norman and Dylan fight and Norma tells them that Caleb is Dylan's father. Also picked by DarkUFO

BEING HUMAN, "Oh Don't You Die For Me", March 17, 2014, Actors: Sam Witwer and more
The Scene: Sally possesses the big black werewolf and kisses Aidan
Sylvie C:
Sally possessing the big black werewolf and kissing Aidan was hilarious. Sam Witwer did an amazing job on this one. I honestly don't know how he managed to do it.

CASTLE, "The Way of the Ninja", March 17, 2014, Actors: Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic
The Scene: Castle and Beckett agree that their life can't be boring
Babar Suhail:
Beckett was worried before that their life will be boring after they get married. But when they see the two "ninja" fighting, they realize that their life together can never be boring. Such a hilarious scene.

HART OF DIXIE, "Here You Come Again", March 21, 2014, Actors: Jaime King and more
The Scene: Lemon is confronted by her two boyfriends at the end
Virginia Fontana:
Lemon is confronted by her two boyfriends and they both vow to fight it out for her affections. I missed Lemon so much and the show is already a million times better with her back. And by the way..Team Enrique for the win!

HELIX, "The Reaping", March 21, 2014, Actors: Meegwun Fairbrother, Hiroyuki Sanada and more
The Scene: Daniel takes his life to spare Hatake and Julia (picked by Darth Locke)

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, "Gary Blauman", March 17, 2014, Actors: Wayne Brady, William Zabka and more, The Scene: The sequence with everyone in the future
Pablozky21:
Nothing surprised me more in the episode than the moment when Ted talks about how life drifts people who love each other apart and how he managed to keep track of some people: Carl made the bar a family business, Jeanette got together with Kevin, Zabka won a poetry medal, Ranjit now owns the limo services, Zoey is attacked by a hawk, Scooter gets together with Jasmine (Stripper Lily), Blitz gets over a gambling adiction (and an old lady wins his jackpot), Patrice has a radio show (Damn it Patrice, I'm not done talking!), we get to know Blah Blah name (Carol) and James gets his family back together. It is a beautiful moment in which in just a couple of minutes the show gives all these characters a final bow for their participation in the story, and it's a very good way to say goodbye to all of them before the show departures. The way it mashes it up all together ala 5 minutes date, with everything happening so fast and yet being tied up greatly. Just HIMYM's glory.
Klutzy girl: The scene where we see what (almost) everyone is up to! That was a nice touch. And it was fun to find out Blah Blah's real name.
Babar Suhail: It was really nice to see what happens with secondary characters in the future. I did wish that we would find out some other characters (Quinn and Nora for example), but obviously they couldn't do a shot with each and every secondary character we have met throughout the show nine year run. Props to the crew for doing the scene in a continuous shot.

NCIS, "Rock and a Hard Place", March 18, 2014, Actors: Brian Dietzen, Mark Harmon, Pauley Perrette
The Scenes: Jimmy breaks down into Abby's arms & Gibbs and Jimmy's conversation
Klutzy girl:
Jimmy comes home from the hospital without a baby after the adoption falls through and breaks down into Abby's arms. I was so excited for Jimmy and Breena to get their baby (and I believe they will), but it was such a devastating scene.
Daniel van der Veer: What happened to Jimmy was truly sad, and I hate it that no one on this team can ever have happiness. But what Gibbs says to Jimmy at the end of the episode, gives Jimmy more courage. Gibbs tells him to fight for his family and not to give up. Not often do we get this kind of scenes between Jimmy and Gibbs, so it was nice to see Gibbs trying to comfort Jimmy. It was a truly emotional scene between the tough team leader and the autopsy gremlin.

ONCE UPON A TIME, "Witch Hunt", March 16, 2014, Actors: Lana Parrilla, Rebecca Mader and more
The Scenes: The Evil Queen and The Wicked Witch meet & Regina and Emma's talk during the stakeout & Regina and Emma talk in the mayor's office
Samy Bgs:
The moment when The Evil Queen (Regina) and The Wicked Witch (Zelena) meet each other is so powerful. Also learning that they are sisters... when you thought the family tree couldn't get any more complicated.
Pablozky21: Regina and Emma's conversation during the stakeout- This has to be one of my favorites Regina moments, as she finally gets to bond with Emma and show how much chemistry these two characters (and actresses) have together. As they talk about Henry Regina can't help but feel moved by the happy life she gave him, while at the same time being misserable for not being part of it, something Emma figures out and so she offers her a way to see him. Even though she doesn't say it, I'm sure Regina is more than grateful, and through the episode we can see that these two get along in a way they have never before; a true friendship is coming together, and the result of that relationship is both outright poignant and pleasant to watch.
Jamie Coudeville: Regina and Emma talk in the mayor's office. This episode was amazing, I loved all of their scenes. But the look between them in this scene, that is the look of love. You don't look at someone like that if you just like them.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND, "Heart of the Matter", March 20, 2014, Actors: Michael Socha, Emma Rigby and more
The Scene: The Knave gets back his heart
Justyna Kubica:
Will gets back his heart and Ana dies. This very emotional and truly unexpected scene at the end of the episode hit me harder than I expected. First of all, after such a long time, The Knave finally got to feel again and the first thing that he felt was his love for Ana. Despite all her mistakes and the pain she has caused along the way, somehow, she still seems like that same Anastasia, this poor, scared girl who wanted her mother's support and loved Will. And just when we think there might actually be a chance for these two.. Jafar kills Ana. Something I didn't see coming and I'm sure it's not over for this fascinating character. Especially considering the whole "we're trying to break the laws of magic" plot of the show. Still, it was such a sad moment. The peace on Ana's face and the pain on Will's when she fell down was quite heartbreaking. And I just love the music in their scenes. If only I knew what this theme's name is... Anyway, beautiful performances by Michael Socha and Emma Rigby here. And I have to add, even if the show doesn't get a second season, I'm so glad I got to watch it. It's very special and I really enjoy it, a lot. Kudos to the cast and crew!

PERSON OF INTEREST, "Root Path", March 18, 2014, Actors: Michael Emerson, Amy Acker
The Scenes: Root and Finch talk in the library & Root and Finch at the end
Justyna Kubica:
Whenever Root and Finch meet I can feel a great scene coming, just like the one in this week's episode, where the two talk in the library, about Cyrus, hubris and the fact that every life matters. "Everyone is relevant to someone." It's the lesson Finch once taught the Machine and now, with her help, tries to teach Root. The actors' performances on the show never cease to amaze me. And here, I loved the way Root tells the story about her connection to Cyrus' life. It almost seemed like she was about to break down, but she ends it looking sad and quite lost. She slowly begins to realize the mistakes she made in the past, hopefully, starting her way to become a better person. It appears that thanks to her bond with the Machine she actually cares, at least about some people. Her declaration, that she's trying to save Finch and his friends, along with herself, surprised me, but in a good way. I look forward to seeing her character evolve and interact with others more regularly in the future. Root's a very unique person and she might just be what the team needs now. Anyway, I'm very excited to see what's gonna happen next. The Machines are about to collide soon and I can't wait to see the consequences of it.
Jimmy Ryan: Person of Interest was all about Root on Tuesday, in what turned out to be a fascinating episode. My pick of the many quality scenes was the end, where, after the POI was safe, Root and Finch talked alone for a short time, with Finch expressing interest in collaborating with Root in the future. I love where the series is heading, and we are all set for an awesome last quarter of the season. Also picked by Darth Locke

REIGN, "The Darkness", March 20, 2014, Actors: Megan Follows, Alan van Sprang
The Scene: King Henry and Catherine at the end
Sandi wich:
King Henry all but admits to murdering two women to Catherine in the last scene of the episode. There is definitely something very wrong with him; headaches, feelings of grandeur, increased sexual appetite, mania/OCD, is this the start of the end of his reign? I kind of hope not as he is one of my favourite characters, but on the other hand I think it will be a fantastic story to watch unfold if this is the case! They will need to get a new actor in to become a love/hate relationship for Megan Follows to battle with once Van Sprang's character does sadly kick the bucket though in my opinion. The two of them make a big part of the show for me and I'm not sure if I would take to the change it would go through without their relationship being part of it.

REVENGE, "Struggle", March 16, 2014, Actors: Emily VanCamp, Barry Sloane
The Scene: Aiden goes Takeda on Emily
Pablozky21:
Even though I thought this episode was a little bit off from the usual Revenge's greatness, I just love this scene. After Emily decides out of despair to kill all the Graysons, Aiden stops her and drags her to what looks like an abandon warehouse and tortures her by drowning her in a bucket with water to force her to realize what is sabotaging her mind. The reason I love the scene is very simple: it feels like a genre show. Revenge is one of the shows that give me the most pleasure while watching, and part of that is because many times during the run there are these scenes that actually feel like something a genre show would do, and it is proof that Revenge can pull almost anything it set itself up to do. Besides, using water as a trigger for Emily to reach her own subconscious is a great tie in to what we've seen on the show multiple times- that water is connected with some of Emily's most traumatic experiences. The scene is exciting to watch and now that Emily is back to her normal self, I only want to see what will be unfold next.

SCANDAL, "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", March 20, 2014, Actors: Jeff Perry, Dan Bucatinsky and more
The Scenes: James Novak's death & Cyrus breaks down at the press conference
Jimmy Ryan:
Scandal was truly shocking this week, with the unexpected death of James Novak. The whole episode was absolutely stunning, but it's the closing scene that takes the bacon for me this week. Scott Foley and Dan Bucatinsky combined to create one of the most powerful and gut-wrenching scenes on television this season.
Diana mack: The episode was stunning, Shonda is always at her best with this show. I think the most touching moment was the last part. Cyrus is at the press conference, but he can only remember the first time he danced with James at the White House, showing he was dating a man after his divorce. Back to the present day, Cyrus bursts into tears. Fitz comes to calm him down. I don't like Cyrus but in that episode and in that moment, everyone could have cried with him.

TEEN WOLF, "Insatiable", March 17, 2014, Actors: Crystal Reed, Tyler Posey, J. R. Bourne and more
The Scene: Allison Argent's death
Justyna Kubica:
I don't know where to start. I'm still trying not to cry thinking and writing about this scene. Barely two weeks ago I was talking about a great scene with Allison and the Sheriff that reminded me how much I truly cared about her character. The powerful, heroic, beautiful and genuinely good warrior, Allison Argent. I honestly didn't see it coming. After weeks of guessing I ended up almost sure Isaac's gonna die and I was trying to prepare myself for his departure so when Allison was stabbed I froze and it literally took my breath away. At the end of her story she managed to do something quite impossible. In the fight against the Oni, with a werewolf and a kitsune by her side, it was Allison, the only human in the group that found a way to defeat their enemies. She saved Isaac's life and probably the lives of others with one perfect shot that killed the indestructible Oni. I'd call it her legacy. She protected the others to her last breath. And she died in the arms of her first love in, what has to be, the most heartbreaking moment of the series. Especially with her father arriving too late to make a difference. Chris Argent is probably the one I'm most worried about. My heart breaks for him. Even though this is the scene of the episode (and of the week), the most memorable, significant and powerful one, I can't call it my favorite of course, I loved the moment Allison shared with her father earlier, her saying goodbye to him, just in case. "I love you. I'm proud of you. I'm proud of us." I'm gonna miss Allison so much. And also all her relationships with everyone else on the show, starting from her father. I love the family aspect of the series, parents' bonds with their children so the fact that one of them is broken, for good, is just too much to handle at the moment. I could write a lot more. About Allison, the effect she had on the show and other characters, her most significant moments and what's left after her death. But the tears probably wouldn't let me finish. So, I'm just gonna say. Goodbye Allison. Goodbye the fantastic Crystal Reed. You'll be missed dearly. And I wish you all the best now.
Sylvie C: Allison's death. It was beautifully written and the acting was perfect. I was terribly sad (even if Allison wasn't one of my favorite character), I cried, PERFECT.
Klutzy girl: Allison's death scene. I figured it was coming and tried to prepare myself, but it still hurt. And this is going to hurt the whole group. Can't wait to see how they deal with it in the finale.
Diana mack: Terrible, unexpected and touching. She died in Scott's arms, his first love, whom she confesses she's still in love with. That death kind reminds me Marissa Cooper's from The OC. Same scenario. RIP Allison Argent. Also picked by Macie Potts and Jamie Coudeville

THE BLACKLIST, "Mako Tanida (No. 83)", March 17, 2014, Actors: James Spader, Diego Klattenhoff and more, The Scenes: The final scene & Ressler figures out Jonica was running Tanida's company
Geo N:
The final scene with Red watching the Swan Lake ballet dancers was awesome. We see a side of Red that rarely shows up on the show. The way his note to Ressler is read aloud over the final scenes was really great. Throughout this time we see, in a flashback, Red's daughter in her last Swan Lake performance and the gift Red gives to Ressler which tied the episode together nicely. Great scene. Also picked by Bradley Adams
Diana mack: Same, even though the whole episode was good, I like Ressler character.
Darth Locke: Ressler figures out Jonica was running Tanida's company.

THE FOLLOWING, "Unmasked", March 17, 2014, Actors: James Purefoy, Jake Weber and more
The Scenes: Joe's tape is played & The attack at the book store
Jimmy Ryan:
The Following continues to ramp things up! Joe Carroll completed his reincarnation in Monday's episode. My favorite scene here was seeing Joe, along with other characters in different locations, watch the tv as his tape is played, while Micah dies on the floor. Also picked by Bradley Adams
DarkUFO: The attack at the book store.

THE MUSKETEERS, "The Challenge", March 16, 2014, Actors: Tamla Kari, Luke Pasqualino
The Scene: Constance ends the affair with D'Artagnan
Sandi wich:
Just about every scene with Constance in stole the show for me this week, Tamla Kari was outstanding with the array of emotions her character went through in such a short period of time. But I am picking the scene where she told D'Artagnan that their affair had to end while her Bonacieux listened in the next room. Constance knew exactly how to play on his insecurities to end the relationship, which piled even more emotional baggage onto shoulders for the fight ahead with Lebarge and quest to become a fully fledged Musketeer. While I have always had issues with this affair, as Constance is married, this episode has made me actually root more for them as a couple, and I hope that once they sort this mess out they would go about starting up anything up again by first sorting out obstacles in their way.

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, "Superhero", March 17, 2014, Actors: Robbie Amell, Mark Pellegrino
The Scene: Stephen finds his dad's body
Virginia Fontana:
Jedikiah walks in on Stephen discovering his dad's body. This storyline and Stephen and Jed's relationship are getting increasingly tense and suspenseful. I can't wait to see what will happen next.
Daniel van der Veer: The entire series is based on Stephen looking for his father. It's what has drawn Stephen to work for Ultra to begin with, and to be a double agent for the Tomorrow People. So to finally have him discovering his father's frozen body was a relief. Obviously Jedikiah has some explaining to do and I can't wait to see where it goes next!

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, "While You Were Sleeping", March 20, 2014, Actors: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, The Scene: Damon and Elena argue, break up and sleep together (picked by Virginia Fontana and Jamie Coudeville)

THE WALKING DEAD, "The Grove", March 16, 2014, Actors: Melissa McBride, Chad Coleman and more
The Scene: Carol shoots Lizzie & Carol confesses the truth to Tyreese
Geo N:
The scene with Carol telling Lizzie to "look at the flowers" made "The Grove" one of the best Season 4 episodes. It was made even more special when the camera went back-and-forth between Carol/Lizzie and Tyreese looking through the window of the cabin. Also picked by DarkUFO and Bradley Adams
Macie Potts: Carol confesses to Tyreese that she killed Karen and David and he forgives her.

I hate to be that guy but it's Deadshot not Deathshot.

Otherwise I picked Allison's death in Teen Wolf, the final scene of the Blacklist, and Carol shooting Lizzie in The Walking Dead

  2. It was almost impossible to pick just 3 scenes this week. So here are some of my honorable mentions:

How I Met Your Mother - The sequence where we get to see so many people's future
Hart Of Dixie - Lemon and Wade scenes - their friendship might be my favorite part of the show at the moment
Once Upon A Time - Both scenes with Regina and Emma - Another great combination of two interesting characters becoming friends.
OUAT in Wonderland - Cyrus takes away Jafar's staff - I love the fact that Amara was keeping her son save from Jafar
Scandal - Cyrus breaks down - I don't watch the show on weekly basis, but it was so sad.
Teen Wolf - Allison says goodbye to her dad & Stiles and Sheriff reunion & Scott discovers how bad Stiles really feels - all great character moments
The Musketeers - Hard to pick a specific scene. Many great scenes this week.
The Tomorrow People - Stephen discovers his father's body - Woah! What's next?

  3. Root & Finch's philosophical pow-wow was amazing to watch. Thanks Amy & Michael.

  4. Supernatural - Dean picking up the First Blade to save his brother.
Teen Wolf - Derek saving the twins.

  5. About OUaT and "...when you thought the family tree couldn't get any more complicated."

We sill don't know who was Rumple's mother, wife of Midas, father of Charming and James, Cora's mother-in-law, Belle's mother, parents of Hook so there are still possibilities to complicate complicated family tree.

  6. You can't have a best scene of the week poll without Hannibal on the mix!! Although they wwere many great scenes Allison Argent's death makes me sob even when I look at the picture, I feel terribly stupid but it's thye truth, it was very well wrtitten and gorgeously acted. Scandal this week was utterly heartbreaking and James Novak's death particularly so, the fact that jake explained how everything had to work and made you understand how in his mind he's trying to do what needs to be done in the best way he can.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I don't watch Hannibal myself, but I'm guessing the ones who watch already had too many great scenes to mention. It's impossible to pick just 3 scenes sometimes :)

As for Allison - yep, I had a hard time trying not to cry even thinking about, not to mention looking for a photo of the scene. It was so well done, yet so heartbreaking.

  8. Scandal - I don't watch the show regularly, but after reading what happened I decided to watch this episode. And Cyrus at the press conference is, for me, the most memorable moment of the hour. Such a moving scene. Clearly you don't have to be Cyrus' fan to feel his pain here.

B99 - I adore this show. It's such a funny comedy, yet it's also very good at adding these emotional bits from time to time. Jake and Terry were probably my favorite part of the episode.

  9. King has some of the best lines on the show, one of the things that make him a real scene stealer. Also, I agree with Athos and Milady scene, they have really interesting dynamics, so it's always good to see them together.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Those moments are always great! Thanks for sharing the picture ;)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes! It was such a moving scene. One of the bravest things I've seen. Heartbreaking.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The Walking Dead Carol shoots Lizzie.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Arrow - the Harley Quinn cameo and the Oliver/Sara "Together" and hug scene. I guess because it was about a pairing other than Olicity (blasphemy!) it didn't make it to the poll.

OUaT - both scenes between Regina and Henry - Lana Parilla is amazing, the way Regina had to hold in her emotions and pretend she's just a friend cordially offering to give Henry a tour of the town was heartbreaking. Also, the twist that Emma supposedly believing Regina is the one behind the curse was just a plan between Emma and Regina to create a smokescreen. I was ready to throw something at the screen when it looked like everyone would believe Regina is the villain and turn on her AGAIN, a plot that's been recycled one (or six) times too many, so it was incredibly inspired to make that a fake-out. Finally, the end reveal of Rumpelstiltskin being alive: while we all knew he wasn't dead, I expected Neal to be in that cage for some reason, so I was effectively surprised. I also love how unhinged and FTL Rumpel-like he seems.

  14. My "other" was the wedding on the airplane in Trophy Wife, oh so sweet!

    ReplyDelete
  15. You forgot on Supernatural, Dean picking up the first blade and zoning out everything but Sam is able to snap Dean out of it :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I forgot about this one. It was such a lovely wedding :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Vikings: The whole episode, but if I had to pick, Ragnar, Lagertha and Bjorn meet again. By far the best scene of the week.

  18. Only voted for two, and as a third i voted Other! DEFINITELY; DEFINITELY voted Sam Witwer. Hands down, no contest. Hahaha that kissing scene, my god! idk how he got through it either. Usually, straight men (or women) actors, take a few shots before they do a same sex scene. Just to calm them down, and get some liquid courage. BUT SAM DOESN'T DRINK! Guess he's just really secure with his sexuality and that's awesome.

Second vote TTP-Stephen finds his dad's body. I mean that whole episode was SO filler (though enjoyable still a filler nonetheless) that i just laid down watching without any real emotion, and definitel rolled my eyes with that Hilary/Stephen scene. Gag! But when Stephen walked into that room, and we saw Roger i jumped up like the board game, Don't Wake Daddy. LOL. My heart broke for Stephen in that moment. Then Jedikiak was right there!! Totally got me hyped for this week.

Arrow- Pftt, i love Diggs. Love him to pieces. But i sure didn't vote for that. I think we ALL know what scene i loved! lol i mean yeah he was present. But she stole the whole damn episode.. for me anyway. haha and i'll say it again. Amanda hits the glass after we hear, " DO YOU CUTIES NEED SOME COUNSELING? I'M A TRAINED THERAPIST!" Ohh Harley, i love you so.

The Following- As much as i loved Joe shooshing Micah as he died, while his video was being played, that didn't do it for me. It was the Claire Reveal!! Very last scene. So unexpected. And that made me really excited for tomorrow night.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I liked the Sara/Oliver "together" scene also. it was great.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The fact that people voted the delena shit scene was better than Allison Argent's death is just really really sad...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Generally speaking, very often the scene that "wins" this poll is from one of the most popular shows on the site, it doesn't necessarily matter what it's about.
Don't worry about it. The truth is we all have our favorites and I really enjoy reading about people's choices in the comments :)

  22. Honorable mentions:

OUAT In Wonderland - Will and Ana talk, he gets his heart back, and she is murdered. Such a heartbreaking scene.

    Scandal - Cyrus breaks down

GA - Alex and Jo talk

The Walking Dead - Carol shoots Lizzie.

    ReplyDelete
  23. All The Following, Person of Interest, Reign, OUAT Wonderland, and The Walking Dead scenes mentioned.

Once Upon A Time: The Evil Queen meets the Wicked Witch, Regina goes to see Henry, and the group in Storybrooke figure out who is behind them not remembering the last year.

The Tomorrow People: Special mention to "I'm not a bloody alarm clock" on TTP. That TIM has attitude. lol I also liked the ending scene like the people in the post.

  24. Once again I am late with catching up on a lot of TV this week, I seem to be a week behind on a regular basis at present trying to cram the shows in on a Sunday and Monday evening which is why I only got 2 shows in for the poll this week.. Honourable mentions on the Musketeers to Athos and Milady in the alley, there's trouble a brewing there for sure, and ofc every scene the King is in.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Teen Wolf - Allison's death.

The Walking Dead - Carol shoots Lizzie.

Scandal - Cyrus breaks down in the press room.

Thanks. I actually noticed it too, but wasn't sure because I found out that both versions are used. But I think you're right. It should be Deadshot when it comes to the show.
On my way to correct it :)
