With the lack of Charles/Liza, with the lack of Josh all season, with Kelsey’s storyline continuously being up in the air, I could go on. Coming out of it… I have not watched a finale that ridiculous in a while, probably years. Let’s jump right into why I, and many others, seriously disliked the finale. <div><br /></div><div>What I truly don’t understand about this whole thing is, why even give us this entire season? Sure, Liza and Charles weren’t going to end up together, but there’s no reason why we couldn’t have figured that out in episode two and had Josh and Liza pining all season. </div><div><br /></div><div>Instead, they decided to throw a “gotcha!” in our faces, forcing Liza to choose her career over love, and revealing that even the writers don’t know what their own show is about. </div><div><br /></div><div>The only person to come out of this finale with their future in a pretty bow was Kelsey – arguably the most unreliable, irresponsible character. We have no endings for anyone else besides things that seem temporary with no long-term plans. </div><div><br /></div><div>Liza gets her dream job, I suppose, but is it only for a few months? Will Charles work under her now as a writer? What about Diana? Does she know about this? </div><div><br /></div><div>Maggie is falling in love with the person who publicly accused her of being transphobic and nearly ended her career, truly ending her job, which she gave Maggie! Cass had more closure than Maggie did this season, for god’s sake. </div><div><br /></div><div>Lauren is part of a throuple now, with two gay men, and I truly don’t know why. I’m happy for Max, but there’s no reason why he couldn’t have come back a few episodes prior, or we could’ve seen Lauren find someone completely new. </div><div><br /></div><div>Josh’s story is sort of wrapped up with buying his building and keeping Inkburg, which is great, except then he’s brought back to the very beginning of the series with Liza. </div><div><br /></div><div>This <i>maybe</i>, maybe, would’ve made sense if we had any lead up to it, but we didn’t. The entire season was based around Charles and Liza loving their way back to each other, only for them to fall out because… of a lie from years ago? A lie that wasn’t even an issue until now? </div><div><br /></div><div>Darren Star commented that Liza’s lie from the beginning of the series was her and Charles’ ultimate undoing (which, huh?) but if that’s true, why a few seasons ago, was it entirely resolved? Why did they settle it, only for it to come up years later? </div><div><br /></div><div>They made it seem like they’ve been planning this for the entire season when we didn’t get even a hint of this in all reality. Every moment past episode two between Liza and Josh is purely platonic. </div><div><br /></div><div>And look, I’m happy if Liza is happy, I’m happy if Josh is happy, but this just doesn’t make any sense. Why would Charles be upset about a lie from years ago? Why would Charles be upset that Liza submitted him to Yaddo? </div><div><br /></div><div>The thing with this finale, truly and wholly, is that it’s <i>dumb</i>. It’s bad writing. It’s out of character and sloppy and it didn’t make narrative sense at all. </div><div><br /></div><div>They knew ahead of time that this would be the very last season, the true finale of everything, and they gave us more screen time with Quinn than people like Josh and Maggie. </div><div><br /></div><div>And <i>why</i> did we spend so much time on Quinn if we weren’t even going to wrap her up? We got absolutely no closure on Quinn. She got on that plane, tried to sabotage Liza and Kelsey, and we never heard from her again. </div><div><br /></div><div>What was the point of building this entire character, destroying Liza and Charles, if they’re not even going to tell us where she went and why she did the things she did? </div><div><br /></div><div>The show relied completely on shock value this season, and it didn’t make sense at all. The last season was spent on the relationship between Charles and Liza, how they were going to better it and make it have a great outcome, and then three minutes into their rekindling they’re talking about how they’re not going to make it. </div><div><br /></div><div>Which, again, I would’ve been cool with, had it happened in episode seven or eight. They made her leave Charles and a day later, Josh was there. Apparently like he was the entire time? Which he wasn’t. He was with Clare. He was with KT. He hasn’t been here pining after her this entire season. They made that clear with the discussion the two had about being in each other’s lives forever. </div><div><br /></div><div>The insinuation that fans don’t know what the show is about was the worst part. Making it seem like the fans think the show is about who Liza would end up with is completely wrong. Nobody thinks the show is about who Liza will end up with – that was only ever a bonus source of excitement with regard to her character development. We all know the show really was about Liza and the people she loved and how she was building a better life and becoming a better person with their support as she finally was able to become who she wanted to be. </div><div><br /></div><div>Charles is incredibly out of character in this episode – a lot of this season, quite frankly – and the way that he flip-flops doesn’t make any sense. Why would he be mad at Liza, why would he test her (and say that straight out? What on earth?) about something she didn’t even know was happening. Liza had no part in Kelsey sending out that pitch. </div><div><br /></div><div>And why was he so upset about Liza submitting him to Yaddo when she just wanted what was best for him? I’m pretty sure there’s an insinuation that she submitted him while they weren’t together, so if anything, this should show him how much Liza believes in him. </div><div><br /></div><div>Why did he ever take it as keeping something from him? If I was rejected from a program that I loved and believed in, I wouldn’t want to know either. It would be devastating. And if he was truly that upset and betrayed, why did he end up going to Yaddo and basically promoting her? It doesn’t make any sense, seriously. </div><div><br /></div><div>Here’s the thing about sticking with the reason Charles doesn’t want to be with Liza: it puts Liza in a position where she doesn’t grow at all. If you start the series with a lie, and through the first four seasons have Liza explaining and learning why that lie was wrong, to have it come back in season seven and make it ruin her relationship is… degrading. </div><div><br /></div><div>This also insinuates that the writers think that Liza is dumb. Just because <i>you</i> chose your marketing campaign to be Team Josh vs. Team Charles doesn’t mean we thought the same way about the show as a whole. </div><div><br /></div><div>Making it seem like the entire show was about Team Josh or Team Charles is also horrible to the rest of the cast and characters you’ve spent years building. If the core of the show is really Josh and Charles and which will end up with Liza, why is anyone else considered relevant? Why was there such a spotlight on Kelsey? Why was Lauren made into a bigger character at all? </div><div><br /></div><div>Because Liza’s love life is not what the show is about and we all know it. They wrote an appalling ending and to back it up, they’re making it seem like the crux of the show was about Liza’s romantic relationships, which was a good added bonus, never the center of the show. </div><div><br /></div><div>This thought process also takes Josh and Charles as characters completely out of it. It makes all of the characters on the show seem like they don’t have a place without Josh and Charles, who are just men that Liza is with. This strips away their entire characters. </div><div><br /></div><div>So, look, here’s my advice: if you’re going to watch Younger, watch seasons one through six and be done. If you insist on watching season seven, have lots of alcohol nearby. I sure wish I had that to watch the finale.
</div><div><br /></div><div>What did you think of the finale? Were you happy with your favorite characters ending? Whose ending did you love most? Let me know in the comments below!</div><script type='text/javascript'>var authorcode='LG';</script>

And I’m sure Kelsey will blame it on Charles not offering them enough money because if Kelsey is good at anything, it’s never admitting when she’s in the wrong. </div><div><br /></div><div>Kelsey is also just a very bland character. Poised to be a mirror for Liza, for all of the things she could’ve been had she gone after what she wanted when she actually was younger, Kelsey has had almost no growth in the seven seasons we’ve known her. </div><div><br /></div><div>Since we met her in season one, she’s been sabotaging her career and almost every opportunity she’s offered because she won’t just suck it up and say, “I don’t know how to do this, please help!” </div><div><br /></div><div>The Kelsey/Rob excitement feels overdone by now. They’re fitting together because they’re both quite boring, but anytime they’re on screen now I’m just waiting for the scene to end. </div><div><br /></div><div>I suppose they’re trying the whole ‘love conquers all’ thing with Rob and Kelsey, but sheesh, just break up with him. This relationship is literally forcing you out of your apartment. </div><div><br /></div><div>Lauren should get to be happy, and if she wants to be with her ex, so be it. Seeing Lauren’s parents again was fun as always, but seriously, there was so much wasted time with the heart attack storyline. Why couldn’t Lauren just run into Max at a bar, or at the party? A friend of a friend could’ve invited him. </div><div><br /></div><div>Instead, they took us on an extremely long-winded journey just to tell us that Lauren would end up with a man when Maggie is <i>right there.</i> [crowd booing] </div><div><br /></div><div>It’s fine, it’s fine, you can’t always get what you want. And speaking of which... </div><div><br /></div><div>Using this phrase very lightly, Josh almost protecting his girls in “Make No Mystique” was incredibly sweet. His recognizing Pauline and letting Liza know she was there ahead of time was such a good scene. I wish we could see a fun, healthy friendship between Josh and Liza because I love Josh so much, but the writers either write him in a love triangle or not at all. </div><div><br /></div><div>Josh speaking to Rob about Kelsey was so fitting for Josh because he’s a big teddy bear under the tough exterior he has. </div><div><br /></div><div>Quinn. Annoying, obnoxious, definitely-now-the-villain Quinn has had infinitely more screentime and storylines than Josh has had all season, and he’s been there since day one. </div><div><br /></div><div>It feels like the writers spent their entire time creating a new, angsty story for Charles and Liza, and then just threw a dart at a dartboard of tropes for everyone else. </div><div><br /></div><div>Lauren? Old ex. Kelsey? Clare’s ex. Maggie? Sapphic sadness. Josh? Who even knows about Josh. Maybe his dart landed in the garbage bin. </div><div><br /></div><div>This season’s writing wasn’t just whiplash for Josh — I honestly don’t understand Quinn. One second she’s telling Charles about how lucky she was to find him, the next second she behaves as she did at the airport in "Make No Mystique". </div><div><br /></div><div>It seems like even the writers weren’t sure if they wanted Quinn to be the villain until the very second she said “once an assistant, always an assistant.” </div><div><br /></div><div>Which, again, is super confusing. A friend of mine pointed out that the reason she was aggressive before Liza showed up tells us how her facade around Charles is starting to slip, but then she doesn’t reel it back in when Liza shows up. She makes it even worse. </div><div><br /></div><div>Where her different reactions on another show could’ve been seen as her being multi-faceted, here she just looks like an unreliable jerk. She’s wishy-washy and rude. It’s almost like she doesn’t even know who she actually is herself. </div><div><br /></div><div>Whatever Quinn decides to do with the Inkubator presentation (thank you, Kelsey) – if it’s anything other than telling Kelsey and Liza congratulations – she’s simply a hollow character. There’s nothing deeper because even the writers can’t extend that far without contradicting what they’ve written prior. So now, because duh, Quinn is upset with an unofficial pitch and detailing on Liza’s newest project in her inbox. Good luck to us all. </div><div><br /></div><div>Though we’ll most likely never know, I wish we could’ve seen the conversation between Charles and Quinn at the airport. It would be interesting to see what Charles really said. </div><div><br /></div><div>I tried to like Quinn. I really did. But when she’s self-described as the boss’ girlfriend and nothing more, there’s not much substance to dig my nails into. </div><div><br /></div><div>Finally, finally, finally, Charles and Liza are back together. We kind of assumed this would happen given their dinner in “Fallout”, but man, was it worth it. At dinner in “Fallout”, it’s likely that Charles realized how simple and nice it is to be with Liza, while he’s <i>trying</i> every minute he’s with Quinn. </div><div><br /></div><div>Liza thinking she doesn’t have a chance with Charles and going to tell him goodbye was a tad dramatic, but it was clearly the shove Charles needed to realize he wants her all, no matter what, on no specific conditions. </div><div><br /></div><div>My favorite part of “Make No Mystique” by far was finding out that the ring Pauline thought was going to Quinn was actually bought for Liza. It’s a beautiful ring, and it shows that even though Charles proposed at the wedding, he had the ring before that. </div><div><br /></div><div>Liza thought he didn’t think about the proposal in full, that he was drunk and impulsive in asking her to marry him, but now she’s seeing that he already planned to, he was just so in love with her at that moment, feeling so at home with her in his arms, that he told her what he wanted most. To be with her forever. </div><div><br /></div><div>Charles saying that he didn’t even know if he liked Quinn also confirmed that he was literally just with Quinn because he needed someone to help him not think about Liza. This kind of sucks for Quinn, but absolutely fits for Charles. Some people were upset about this wording, but it shows us that Charles never had any real feelings in the race between Quinn and Liza, which is what we’ve been saying this whole time. </div><div><br /></div><div>If I had one complaint about the Charles/Liza storyline this season, it’s that I would’ve broken up Charles and Quinn probably around episode eight or nine, because now there’s only one episode left to resolve all of their problems, and have everyone around them resolve their problems. </div><div><br /></div><div>Regardless, the finale looks like it’s shaping up to be good, and at 45 minutes long, hopefully, there won’t be any wasted scenes. </div><div><br /></div><div>What did you think of “Fallout” and “Make No Mystique”? Are you happy Charles and Liza are back together? Do you like Kelsey and Rob’s relationship? Let me know in the comments below!</div><script type='text/javascript'>var authorcode='LG';</script>

Lauren (of course) finds out that Kelsey is seeing Clare’s ex, and while it’s fairly understandable, why won’t she just come clean to Clare about seeing Rob? </div><div><br /></div><div>It’s the Maggie situation all over again. If Kelsey would just tell Clare now instead of having Clare find out later in some random happenstance, which I’m sure is exactly what will end up happening, Clare might be more understanding. </div><div><br /></div><div>Josh and Lauren are right though, no matter how cute he and Kelsey are: ovaries before brovaries. </div><div><br /></div><div>Elsewhere, Quinn somehow found women’s bottoms with pockets big enough to fit her audacity, and are we <i>sure</i> she’s not the villain? </div><div><br /></div><div>If I had just gotten out of a relationship with a man I loved and was with for years and his next pick asked me to talk about the gift <i>she</i> got for him, I would be in jail. Liza is so much better than me. </div><div><br /></div><div>Look, maybe it would make sense if Quinn and Liza were old friends – but they’re not. There’s always been a bit of a divide between the two, so the fact that Quinn thinks it’s appropriate to go to Liza about Charles shows what kind of person she is, and what kind of person she thinks Liza is. </div><div><br /></div><div>On the better side of things… for now… Charles and Liza are working together again. Ugh, when Susan said “it’ll be a double date!” it was enough serotonin to last me through the week. And when they’re alone in the office together after hours? Work husband and wife, please become real husband and wife, thank you. </div><div><br /></div><div>While the end of this episode – which I’ll discuss shortly – makes Charles and Liza’s future look extremely bleak, the rest of the episode tells me that the writers are still rooting for Charles and Liza as much as we are. </div><div><br /></div><div>When Liza is yelling at Charles, telling him that he did have all of her, despite what he believed, she says, “I wish I didn’t love you.” Not I wish I hadn’t, or I wish I loved, I wish I didn’t love you.
So in this present moment, Liza does love Charles. </div><div><br /></div><div>It’s not very hard to put that together. I’m sure Charles did too, especially since he then had to drive home alone for 40 minutes thinking about that conversation. </div><div><br /></div><div>It doesn’t seem like Liza was really <i>angry</i> at Charles and that’s why she didn’t want to drive with him, it seemed like it would’ve hurt too much. So she got an Uber for a 40-minute drive. I did that recently, and it is not cheap, y’all. </div><div><br /></div><div>Now for the end of the episode… goodness Quinn is something else. Looking back, Quinn never directly said that she was using Charles to have her perfect marriage image. However, when she spends a lunch break telling Liza that she would never get married, and then she tells Charles she would’ve said yes, it’s clear that that’s exactly what she’s doing. </div><div><br /></div><div>Quinn is a liar. She’s a cheat. She’s using Charles, and honestly, she’s using Liza too. Insinuating that Liza should be there to talk to Quinn about Charles is underhanded and condescending. </div><div><br /></div><div>A friend said to me that it seemed like he went to Quinn’s event after his conversation with Liza as a dig at Liza. Not that she’d ever really know – but the Liza in his mind would know. </div><div><br /></div><div>The Liza that consumes his thoughts, who can’t leave him, would know.
With all this being said, there’s really no possible way that the writers would tease us for this entire episode with Charles/Liza, only for, in the end, him marrying Quinn. </div><div><br /></div><div>Regardless… Alexa, play “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo. </div><div><br /></div><div>What did you think of the episode? Do you think they’re setting up Quinn and Charles to get married? What are your thoughts on Kelsey and Rob? Are they ever going to give Lauren a girlfriend to be happy with? I’ve also never tried to hide my distaste for Quinn and Charles. So imagine my surprise when they’re still together after The Son Also Rises, and we get an attempt at a Quinn redemption arc in The Baroness! <div><br /></div><div>The Baroness was… certainly an episode I never thought we’d have to see in the final season of the show. There’s truly not much to tell from it other than that Quinn is made out to be this great, caring, charitable woman who didn’t admit to Liza in a previous episode that she’s using Charles for her run for Governor. Sure. Okay. </div><div><br /></div><div>The entire time we were forced to like Quinn, or try to like her, I was begging for anything else to happen. Look, here’s the thing: if the writers really wanted us to believe Quinn and Charles are going to be 2gether 4ever, they wouldn’t have shown us The Son Also Rises. That’s just the facts. But more on that later… </div><div><br /></div><div>For now, let’s talk Maggie. Girl. I am so sorry they are giving you bare minimum storylines this season. When we first saw the trailer, it was so exciting to see that Maggie might finally meet someone she’s going to be with for a while. Then, all we got was Maggie working for 3 weeks and her boss being a psychopath.</div><div><br /></div><div>The way that Cass defends Kamila is so weird considering they’re both, you know, adults. Cass insinuating that Kamila is this tiny baby doe who’s extremely vulnerable and sensitive shows that she really doesn’t know her wife at all. </div><div><br /></div><div>I can totally understand the writers wanting to be “with the times” and discuss “woke culture” but they did it in a very tone-deaf way that didn’t show any sort of growth or any necessity for it. Learning that only Cass was saying that Maggie was transphobic? The shot where she’s told to her face that she’s canceled? We are once again seeing a very obvious sign that millennials do not in fact write this show. </div><div><br /></div><div>This storyline was wasted on Maggie, and it makes me so sad because she deserves so much more than to be a mistress and then be “canceled” without any sort of input on her own to the situation. Please give Maggie a beautiful, single woman to fall in love with before the finale. I’m begging you. </div><div><br /></div><div>Kelsey was surprisingly tolerable the last few episodes. Well… Kelsey was Kelsey. It’s not surprising to me that she got the flirty, horny edit on the reality show she was on, she was kind of giving off those vibes. To make it seem like that’s all she was there for, though? Yeesh. Yikes. </div><div><br /></div><div>Kelsey blaming Lauren for it was completely unfair though -- yes, Lauren signed her up, but you said yes, Kelsey. It was her fault for not telling you about the four-episode arc though. </div><div><br /></div><div>Luckily, she got out of that with, uh, Clare’s ex? Sure. Hey, uh, do y’all remember him at all? Because I certainly don’t. Super glad they let us know exactly who he was instead of just assume we’d know who he was. </div><div><br /></div><div>He and Kelsey, unfortunately, have pretty good chemistry. I say unfortunately because of the whole, can I date my friend's ex? issue. It would be nice to see Kelsey be with a man who’s not a grade-A jerk, so maybe this will work out with Clare’s blessing. </div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway, let’s talk The Son Also Rises. </div><div><br /></div><div>You could’ve wiped my mind of the last seven episodes entirely and shown me this episode and I would’ve simply assumed it was in season five. The way Charles and Liza look at each other isn’t at all platonic, and if the writers really wanted me to give Quinn and Charles a chance, they never should’ve shown this to me. </div><div><br /></div><div>When Charles had to attend the funeral of someone he believes he wronged, and then upon finding out that he may have another child, Liza was there. Without Charles even asking. And he talked to her! He didn’t hold anything back, he didn’t sugarcoat anything. </div><div><br /></div><div>He certainly didn’t hold anything back when Liza mentioned Quinn -- his indignation was clear on his face. </div><div><br /></div><div>And just so we’re clear, I don’t dislike Quinn because she’s dating Charles, I dislike her because she’s abrasive, aggressive, and mean. Everything Liza isn’t. Which is probably why Charles went for her. </div><div><br /></div><div>The Son Always Rises gives us a clear picture of what Charles and Liza are to each other. They’re willing to talk about anything and everything, no matter when or where. We literally don’t even know if Quinn knew about any of this. </div><div><br /></div><div>I know Miriam Shor was only available for the one episode because of COVID-19 restrictions, but you’re really telling me Liza and Diana just don’t speak anymore? We couldn’t get a few scenes of Liza on the phone with Diana? That made me sad. You know she’d be eating up any gossip that came from Liza or Charles. </div><div><br /></div><div>These few episodes seem to be putting us on a trajectory towards a Charles/Liza reunion, and I’m just saying, if I don’t get that, I will be suing for emotional distress. </div><div><br /></div><div>What did you think of the episodes? What were your thoughts on Kelsey being called ‘princess’? (I hated it, thanks.) Do you think Liza will end up alone? Did you enjoy the additional Quinn in the latest episode? Let me know in the comments below!

We’ve reached the middle of the final season of <i>Younger, </i>and it’s finally starting to look up. <div><br /></div><div>Now, look, is it fun seeing Quinn (admittedly!) use Charles for her future campaign? Of course not. Will the Liza/Charles pining once he figures out Liza was telling the truth be worth it? We can only assume yes. </div><div><br /></div><div>Let’s go back a bit, though. Liza and her old friend Vince (Neal Bledsoe - <i>The Man in the High Castle</i>) reconnect at the anniversary party she was supposed to attend with Charles. Yeesh. After Liza makes it very, <i>very</i> clear that she’s not looking for a partner, they go out to dinner, and he <i>still</i> tries to call it a date. </div><div><br /></div><div>Men’s audacity knows no bounds. </div><div><br /></div><div>This date is shown back to back with a date featuring Quinn and Charles, because why not. If I haven’t made it clear, I despise this couple. Not only because now we know Quinn is in it for terrible reasons, but it’s wildly out of character for Charles to apparently get over Liza that quickly. </div><div><br /></div><div>Liza losing it in the restaurant was a long time coming, and it’s good to know she’s still in love with Charles (!), but my goodness, <i>why is this such a debate? </i>Liza doesn’t want to be just a man’s wife and have her life revolve around him. When has that ever been the case for Charles and Liza? </div><div><br /></div><div>What Liza is saying is completely valid and I would agree under almost any other circumstance. But Charles isn’t, and has never, tried to control her into becoming just his girlfriend, fiancée, wife. He’s made it clear multiple times that he likes that she’s an independent woman. Why now is this something they’ve seemingly never discussed before? </div><div><br /></div><div>Also, why can’t she just talk to him about it? Why can’t she say this to him? “Charles, I want to be with you long term, but I don’t want to just be your wife.” This is a sentiment that’s made a lot not only on television but even in real life! It’s completely okay to think like that, but for Liza to then place the blame on Charles in saying that he’s just upset that he didn’t get what he wanted is…wrong. </div><div><br /></div><div>We’ll get back to the Charles/Liza nonsense in a bit. Now, let’s talk about Maggie. She and Josh are at a gallery event together when she meets Kamila (Kelli Barrett - <i>Fosse/Verdon</i>), and boy, was that a mistake she didn’t see coming. Later we find out that Kamila is actually married to Cass (Janeane Garofalo - <i>Ratatouille</i>), Maggie’s new boss and friend. Yikes! </div><div><br /></div><div>What makes matters worse is when Cass invites Maggie and her, uh, fake girlfriend, over for dinner. She enlists Lauren to help, because duh, and the night ends with Maggie receiving more than just a few nudes from Kamila as Maggie is sitting at Cass and Kamila’s dinner table. Gross? </div><div><br /></div><div>If I didn’t already dislike Kamila for sleeping with Maggie when she was a married woman, this would’ve done it for me. Not only are these unsolicited pictures that Maggie is receiving, but Maggie hasn’t made any more advances towards Kamila since she found out she and Cass were married. </div><div><br /></div><div>Maggie is visibly uncomfortable around the both of them together, completely understandably, and it’s not fair for Kamila to keep making advances towards her. Especially when Maggie has shown up to dinner with her (albeit fake) girlfriend! </div><div><br /></div><div>I’m so glad Maggie is getting a storyline, but if she doesn’t get the lesbian happily ever after she deserves I’m going to be so upset. While we’re on the topic of women-loving-women, when are we going to give Lauren a girlfriend? She’s basically begging for it by being Maggie’s fake girlfriend and making out with Clare at brunch. </div><div><br /></div><div>Josh and KT’s situation is… odd. KT (Ana Villafañe - <i>New Amsterdam</i>) makes it very clear that she doesn’t want or like kids, and Josh dates her anyway. Bud. I can’t keep defending you. She breaks up with him when she finds out, but not before she finds a baby bag in Josh’s room and her only rational thought is that he has a baby kink. </div><div><br /></div><div>I heavily debated using the term “adult baby syndrome,” or something of the like, but the show knew what they were doing. This is exactly what they wanted. </div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway… as drastic as that was, it seems like maybe it was the push Josh needed to realize that what he’s looking for is something real. Something good. Something that will last and be beneficial to both him and his child. </div><div><br /></div><div>Definitely not Liza, then. As she <i>doesn’t want more children.</i> </div><div><br /></div><div>Alright, back to Charles/Liza. It’s not obvious that I have a lot of thoughts on this, right? Look, I don’t want to be biased, but I literally am, because Liza has made it clear that she does not want Josh in a romantic capacity anymore. People have been saying that Liza going back to Charles is regressing her character, but I think it would be if she went back to Josh that she’d actually be regressing. </div><div><br /></div><div>She started off the show with Josh, and Josh showed her exactly what she didn’t want in a relationship. Then she grew from that and applied it to Charles. Josh and Liza were never going to work because the only place they ever had chemistry was in bed. That’s not suitable for a long-lasting relationship like Liza wants. </div><div><br /></div><div>They put this love triangle to bed because Liza and Josh both made up their minds about what they want. Liza wants Charles. Josh wants kids and a family. Liza doesn’t want any more kids. It’s literally as simple as that. </div><div><br /></div><div>Quinn, though… who knows what she wants other than literally just attention. Quinn made it seem like Liza telling Charles about him possibly being used was Liza trying to get back with Charles, but it’s clear that here, Liza hasn’t even admitted to herself that she still wants Charles. Liza wants Charles to be happy, and she wants to protect his kids, so she did what she thought was right. </div><div><br /></div><div>She did that knowing Charles might not believe her, knowing that Quinn would hate her, and knowing she could be wrong. For Charles. </div><div><br /></div><div>Speaking of Charles, a lot of people have expressed dislike for him this season, which is totally fine, but if Liza had been the one to propose and he’d said no, he’d still be the villain. To hold Charles’ wants and needs against him isn’t completely fair. <i>Younger</i> doesn’t hold Liza accountable often, if they did, she’d ultimately be an unlikeable character, but this feels like they’re doing anything to <i>not</i> blame Liza. </div><div><br /></div><div>Charles set his boundaries. He let us know exactly how he feels and Liza clearly didn’t match those feelings, and now she’s upset about her actions. Her and Kelsey insinuating that he has to grovel to get her back isn’t okay. Why would he have to go back on what he said when he said it very clearly? It’s completely fine for them to have not been on the same page, but the allocation of blame regarding how their break-up has been playing out cannot be placed solely or even primarily on Charles. </div><div><br /></div><div>All in all, the season seems like it’s finally tipping in a direction that leads us to the end. Maybe not with people like Lauren and Kelsey, but definitely for Josh, Liza, and Charles. </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Some other fun things about these episodes:
Kelsey calling Liza “Lies” as Quinn did was just straight-up unnecessary. Girl, come on. Stop it. </li><li>Putting this into the universe: Liza Miller starting her own publishing company or imprint. Liza Miller starting her own publishing company or imprint. Liza Miller starting her own publishing company or imprint. </li><li>Liza, if Maggie offers you something that will make fact-checking Quinn’s book just a little more fun and bearable, why wouldn’t you take it?! </li></ul>What did you think of these episodes of <i>Younger</i>? Are you looking forward to the rest of the season? Do you think Quinn has feelings for Charles, despite her admitting that she’s using him? While I would love to say that I didn’t see this coming, or that I’m excited about what’s happened so far, I’d be lying. This season so far makes me think this should be its fourth, and not its last, as they should be wrapping everything up. <div><br /></div><div>The episode-centric books they’ve come up with are… falling short. In episode two, we’re introduced to Füpa Grünhoff, <i>Younger’s</i> version of Greta Thunberg, played by Nadia Alexander (Blame), Kelsey and Liza are trying to get her to write a book with Empirical as she’s rejected every other publishing house for a book about her activism in trying to save the world from Global Warming. </div><div><br /></div><div>In <i>Younger,</i> they make Füpa incredibly hostile, aggressive, mean. She doesn’t care about anyone or anything, and she’s mean to her own mother. I know that they can’t create a carbon copy of Thunberg, but goodness she’s harsh. Not only is <i>she </i>incredibly annoying (because come on), but Kelsey makes this episode all the more insufferable. When Füpa loses her prized bracelet in a compost bin, Kelsey exclaims, “we can get you a new bracelet as a signing gift!” even though Kelsey doesn’t know the significance of the bracelet to Füpa. </div><div><br /></div><div>I could say that this is rare, but let’s be honest, Kelsey has been the least exciting part of this show for a while now. She flip-flops between definitely 100% knowing what she wants to do and having absolutely no idea. One day she wakes up enlightened, and the next she once again doesn’t know what she’s doing or why. </div><div><br /></div><div>When Millennial is removed from Empirical as a whole, which I didn’t even know you could do as quick as it seems to happen, Kelsey is unattached and uninspired. We barely got to see how anyone else felt about Millennial crumbling, which is frustrating since it was such a huge part of <i>Younger. </i></div><div><br /></div><div>It’s been seven seasons and Kelsey is still trying to figure out who she is. She finds herself and loses herself once a season and it’s gotten too old. Zane breaks up with her fairly abruptly and as a viewer, it’s almost a relief. What they had between them seemed more like an anything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better competition rather than a relationship. The two never had chemistry and putting this to bed would’ve been the best way to go had Charles Michael Davis been able to come back for filming. </div><div><br /></div><div>I truly have nothing else to say about Kelsey. To me, even though she’s clearly one of the most important people on the show, I could do without her. She’s still a very one-dimensional character who I feel almost nothing for. It still makes me upset that Kelsey is getting the spinoff and not Maggie. How fun would it have been to see Maggie on her own in New York City in a prequel show? </div><div><br /></div><div>The situation between Liza and Kai, the charming male surfer who wants a book plan with Empirical, played by Matt Passmore (<i>The Glades</i>) is absolutely infuriating. After Charles and Liza settle with being broken up (much more on that later), Liza is floundering with the new “freedom” this grants her, and she decides to go all-in and sleep with Kai – multiple times, apparently. </div><div><br /></div><div>On the opposite end, Charles and Quinn (Laura Benanti - <i>Supergir</i>l) attend a few flirty dinners together, and then after Quinn’s impromptu birthday celebration (which, did they have to open a Dave & Busters during a pandemic for that?), Quinn kisses him goodbye and Charles doesn’t reject it. Huh? We’re supposed to believe that Charles proposed to Liza, and now just weeks later, he’s totally fine with kissing another woman? </div><div><br /></div><div>Here’s my biggest problem: with Charles proposing, we had hoped – and rightfully so – that this would be the end to the Liza/Charles/Josh love triangle. And it is! Josh and Liza are just them, he’s happy that they were to be engaged, all is well in this love triangle world. Except then, all they did was turn around and give us a new love triangle between Liza/Charles/Quinn. </div><div><br /></div><div>How Charles and Liza are both acting in this breakup is completely out of character for me. You’re telling me they didn’t talk about marriage even once while they were together? When watching these episodes, my main thought was centered around the fact that if either Charles or Liza slept with Kai or Quinn or anyone else the writers decide to throw us, there’s no coming back from it. Two scenes later Liza slept with Kai. </div><div><br /></div><div>Liza is free to do whatever she wants, with whomever she wants, whenever she wants. But loving Charles and Liza for this long, seeing the build-up to their relationship, and the love that followed, this was unbelievably upsetting to watch. I’m pretty sure they’re doing the whole rebound situation, but did it really have to be done? Do we really have to watch this couple who has fought for so much already go through heartbreak in the final season of the show? </div><div><br /></div><div>Apparently, we do. </div><div><br /></div><div>Nobody asked, but since we’re all here, here’s how I would’ve done the final season of <i>Younger.</i> Despite loving that they’re not bringing the pandemic to the show, I think it would’ve fit so well. If Liza had said yes to Charles and the first few episodes were planning the wedding – booking venues, flowers, finding dresses, and choosing guests – only for it to fall apart the further it went along. The venue backs out in one episode, the photographer the next, and so on until there was basically nothing left. </div><div><br /></div><div>I know impromptu weddings are getting a bit overdone, but wouldn’t it be fun to have the penultimate episode be the two deciding they just wanted to be married more than anything else and going to City Hall with their daughters? They could’ve even done something where Maggie has a free gallery space because it’s, duh, not being used, and they could get married there with the 6 or so guests that are regulars on the show. </div><div><br /></div><div>Angst in TV, especially between couples who are/were slow burn is to be expected, but must it always be a be-all-end-all where they’re either together or broken up? Where they’re broken up and with other people right away? </div><div><br /></div><div>I can only hope that Charles and Liza find their ways back to each other before they stray too far apart. </div><div><br /></div><div>Here are some of my favorite quotes/scenes from the four episodes: </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>In episode two, It’s the “End of the World, Worm Girl,” when Charles and Liza are officially breaking up and Charles says, “If I bend anymore, I’m gonna break.” This was so heartbreaking to watch and it made me feel so bad for Charles. </li><li>In episode three, “FKA Millennial,” Charles and Maggie are discussing his and Liza’s breakup, and he says, “I think I never really had her whole heart,” and Maggie says “That’s too bad, ‘cause you did.” While I’m with Charles through and through – just say yes, Liza! – this was equally heartbreaking for Liza. Then, they had her go sleep with someone else, so… </li><li>Also in “FKA Millennial,” Liza says to Charles “I practically wrote your ex-wife’s book, I hope you don’t expect me to edit your new girlfriend’s book as well.” WHEW. Felt that one. </li><li>This definitely isn’t a favorite, but I wanted to mention Quinn calling herself the boss’s girlfriend in episode four, “Risky Business,” and basically threatening Liza. The audacity that Quinn has… yeesh. </li></ul><div><br /></div>What did you guys think of the start of the final season of Younger? Do you agree more with Liza or Charles? How do you feel about Quinn? Let me know in the comments below!</div><script type='text/javascript'>var authorcode='LG';</script>

In <a href="https://7news.com.au/the-morning-show/hilary-duff-on-the-final-season-of-younger-and-her-mission-to-end-period-poverty-c-1249693">an interview with Australian talk show</a> "The Morning Show" Hilary Duff confirmed that the show's upcoming 7th season would be the last.<br />
<br />
“<i>It has been tough because I’m supposed to be in New York right now filming last season, and we have been on hold for quite a few months. Things are starting to shoot in New York and open back up again. I think production is feeling confident that in the next month or two we can get back to our schedule and shoot our last season.</i>”<br />
<br />
This comes after <a href="https://www.spoilertv.com/2020/05/younger-spin-off-in-development.html">TV Land announced in May</a> that they are developing a spinoff centered around Duff's character Kelsey.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29964715.post-54113144042517689742020-05-08T19:42:00.000+01:002020-05-08T19:42:04.914+01:00Younger - Spin-off In Development<a name='more'></a><img class="headerimage" width="726px" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/cdn.spoilertv.com/images/headers/younger.jpg" /><br />

<div class="newindent">Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that ViacomCBS — which owns the TV Land comedy — is teaming with creator Darren Star to develop a spinoff of the veteran comedy starring Sutton Foster.
