<div class="newindent">Hit BBC drama Vigil will look to the skies for its second series, with a brand-new investigation that takes Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) into the world of the British air force. The six-part drama, made by World Productions (Line of Duty, Showtrial, Save Me, Bodyguard) for BBC One and iPlayer, will begin filming soon in Scotland.
<br /><br />
Following multiple unexplained fatalities at a Scottish military facility, Silva and Longacre are tasked with uncovering the cause. Entering the hostile and closed ranks of the air force, the pair must face the deadly warfare of tomorrow as they fight for their own future.
<br /><br />
Vigil stars Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack, Doctor Foster) and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Downtown Abbey) alongside Gary Lewis (His Dark Materials, Granite Harbour) who returns as DSU Robertson. They will be joined for series two by Romola Garai (Becoming Elizabeth, The Hour), Dougray Scott (Crime, Enigma), Amir El-Masry (SAS Rogue Heroes, Limbo), David Elliot (The Liberator, Bulletproof), Chris Jenks (Sex Education, Karen Pirie), Tommy Sim’aan (The Midwich Cuckoos, Doctors), Oscar Salem (House of the Dragon, Des), Jonathan Ajayi (Noughts + Crosses) and Hiba Medina in her first major TV role, all playing key roles across the six new episodes.
<br /><br />
The first series of Vigil was UK television’s most-watched new drama launch since Bodyguard in 2018, attracting over 13 million viewers. Series one won the International Emmy and secured a BAFTA nomination for Best Drama Series.
<br /><br />
Suranne Jones says: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Vigil team again and continuing our story. We have brilliant new scripts and some amazing additions to the cast. Buckle up. It’s quite a ride”
<br /><br />
Rose Leslie says: “I’m delighted to team up with Suranne again and continue Amy and Kirsten’s adventures through a second series of Vigil. Tom Edge has created another gripping case for us to grapple with in a whole new setting.”
<br /><br />
Romola Garai says: "It’s a huge privilege to be welcomed in as a part of Vigil series two and to be playing such a layered, complex character. I can only hope to do justice to the shows continued fascinating, challenging and thrilling storytelling."
<br /><br />
Dougray Scott says: “I’m delighted to be joining the cast of Vigil series two - the first was so highly regarded and widely watched, and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with Tom Edge and Andy De Emmony. Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie are great talents and I’m excited to be working with them.”
<br /><br />
Creator and writer Tom Edge says: “I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning to reprise their roles as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre, and am grateful to the BBC for the opportunity to take them on a thrilling new adventure. World Productions have built a fantastic reputation for twisting, turning thrillers and this one corkscrews with the best of them.”
<br /><br />
Simon Heath and Jake Lushington, Executive Producers for World Productions, say: “We’re excited to be taking the Silva & Longacre investigative partnership into a very different part of the British military, high in the skies rather than deep underwater. We’re also delighted to welcome to the cast two brilliant actors we’ve worked with on previous World shows, Romola Garai and Dougray Scott”
<br /><br />
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama says: “Vigil series one took the country by storm, and I could not be more excited for BBC viewers to find out what comes next. With a highly original mystery and a richly fascinating new world for Silva and Longacre to explore, this is blockbuster television with brains as well as brawn.”
<br /><br />
Vigil (6x60’) series two is made by World Productions for the BBC. It is written and created by Tom Edge, with episodes by Maryam Hamidi, James Smythe and Ryan O’Sullivan & Matilda Wnek. Series two will be directed by Andy De Emmony (The Nest, The Last Kingdom). The Producer is Marcus Wilson (Doctor Who, Luther) and Associate Producer is George Aza-Selinger. Executive producers are Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, and Tom Edge. International distribution is handled by ITV Studios.
<br /><br />

Filming on series two of the multi award-winning and six-time BAFTA-nominated BBC drama The Responder has begun in Liverpool.
<br>
<br>The hugely successful first series was a distinctive new take on crime drama from Fremantle-backed Dancing Ledge (The Salisbury Poisonings, Crossfire) for BBC One and iPlayer. Written by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher, The Responder held a mirror up to the emotional extremes of life on the front line of British policing – sometimes darkly funny, sometimes painfully tragic, always challenging. Series one was released on the BBC in January 2022 and attracted 9.6m viewers (episode one 28-day figure), making it one of the year’s biggest new dramas. Sold widely, with Fremantle handling global distribution, it fast became one of Europe’s biggest dramas.

<b>Garth Marenghi's Darkplace (2004)</b>
<br><br>
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace: A Cult Classic Awaiting Your Discovery
<br><br>
"Garth Marenghi's Darkplace," a British television series that aired in 2004, is a brilliantly crafted parody of 1980s horror television, wrapped in layers of meta-humor and surreal comedy. Set within the eerie corridors of Darkplace Hospital, the show follows Dr. Rick Dagless M.D., a maverick doctor battling supernatural forces, personal demons, and often his own incompetence. But here's the twist: the series is presented as a "lost" show from the 80s, created by fictional horror writer Garth Marenghi, who introduces each episode with earnest (and hilariously self-aggrandizing) commentary.
<br><br>
The cast is a delightful ensemble of British comedic talent. Matthew Holness stars as the titular Garth Marenghi and also plays the brooding Dr. Rick Dagless. Richard Ayoade, known for his role in "The IT Crowd," portrays Dean Learner, Marenghi's unskilled publisher-turned-actor, who delivers his lines with delightful stiffness. Matt Berry and Alice Lowe round out the main cast, each bringing their unique comedic flair to the series.
<br><br>
So, why should "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" be on your radar? For starters, its humor is refreshingly original. The show expertly satirizes the clichés and tropes of vintage horror TV, complete with purposefully shoddy production values, over-the-top acting, and hilariously bad special effects. Every episode is a masterclass in comedic timing, with jokes layered upon jokes, making it a treat for fans of British humor and meta-comedy.
<br><br>
Additionally, the series is a testament to the power of character-driven comedy. Each character, from the overly dramatic Dr. Dagless to the clueless hospital administrator Thornton Reed, is a caricature pushed to the extreme, yet they all feel strangely endearing. Their interactions, combined with the absurdity of the show's premise, create a comedic alchemy that's hard to resist.
<br><br>
In conclusion, "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" is a hidden gem in the world of comedy. Its blend of satire, surrealism, and character-driven humor makes it a must-watch for those seeking something out of the ordinary. If you're in the mood for a show that doesn't take itself too seriously and revels in its own absurdity, then Darkplace Hospital is ready to admit you as a patient. Dive in and enjoy the comedic brilliance!

<b>Deadwood (2004-2006)</b>
<br><br>
Discovering Deadwood: A Television Masterpiece
<br><br>
"Deadwood," which aired from 2004 to 2006, is a riveting drama set in the late 1800s, chronicling the rise of Deadwood, South Dakota, from a camp to a town. The series delves deep into the tumultuous times of the American frontier, where lawlessness reigned supreme, and the quest for gold drove men to extremes. Created by David Milch, this HBO series masterfully blends historical events with fictional narratives, offering viewers a gritty and authentic portrayal of the Old West.
<br><br>
The ensemble cast is nothing short of spectacular, led by the likes of Ian McShane as the cunning and charismatic Al Swearengen, Timothy Olyphant as the principled lawman Seth Bullock, and Molly Parker as the resilient Alma Garrett. Each actor brings depth and nuance to their roles, making the characters come alive with complexity and authenticity. The interactions between these characters, set against the backdrop of a town in flux, create a tapestry of human desires, conflicts, and alliances.
<br><br>
So, why should "Deadwood" be on your must-watch list? Firstly, the show's dialogue is a work of art. Milch's writing is poetic and profound, with characters delivering lines that are both archaic in their phrasing yet deeply resonant in their meaning. This unique linguistic style sets "Deadwood" apart from other period dramas and gives it a distinctive voice. Secondly, the show doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of the era. It portrays the brutality, corruption, and challenges of frontier life with unflinching honesty, making it a raw and immersive experience for viewers.
<br><br>
Moreover, "Deadwood" offers a masterclass in character development. Over the course of its three seasons, characters evolve, relationships shift, and allegiances change, reflecting the unpredictable nature of life in the Wild West. The series also touches on themes of power, community, and redemption, making it a thought-provoking watch.
<br><br>
In conclusion, "Deadwood" is more than just a historical drama; it's a deep dive into the human psyche, set in a time and place where survival was a daily battle. With its compelling characters, exquisite writing, and authentic portrayal of the Old West, it's a series that deserves to be discovered by a new generation of viewers. Don't miss out on this television gem.

<b>The Riches (2007-2008)</b>
<br><br>
The Riches: A Deep Dive into the American Dream's Dark Side
<br><br>
"The Riches," which graced our screens from 2007 to 2008, is a captivating drama that delves into the complexities of identity, deception, and the pursuit of the American Dream. At its core, the series follows the lives of the Malloy family, a clan of Irish Traveller con artists, who, after a twist of fate, assume the identities of a wealthy suburban family, the Riches. As they navigate this new world of opulence and privilege, the Malloys grapple with their past, their morals, and the lengths they'll go to protect their newfound status.
<br><br>
Leading the talented cast are Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver, who play Wayne and Dahlia Malloy, respectively. Izzard's portrayal of Wayne, the family's cunning patriarch, is both charismatic and deeply conflicted, while Driver's Dahlia is a force to be reckoned with, showcasing strength, vulnerability, and a fierce maternal instinct. Their dynamic, combined with the performances of the younger cast members, paints a vivid picture of a family bound by love, loyalty, and shared secrets.
<br><br>
So, why should "The Riches" be on your watchlist? Firstly, the show offers a unique perspective on the American Dream, challenging the conventional narratives of success and questioning the true cost of wealth and societal acceptance. Through the Malloys' eyes, viewers are given a front-row seat to the contradictions and hypocrisies of suburban life, making the series both a thrilling drama and a social commentary.

Pushing Daisies: A Whimsical Tale of Life, Death, and Second Chances
<br><br>
"Pushing Daisies," which aired from 2007 to 2009, is a delightful blend of fantasy, romance, and mystery, wrapped in a vibrant and whimsical package. The series revolves around Ned, a pie-maker with a unique and bittersweet gift: he can bring the dead back to life with a single touch. However, this gift comes with two significant caveats. First, if he touches the revived person or thing again, they return to being dead, permanently. Second, if he lets them live for more than a minute, someone else nearby will die in their place. This extraordinary ability sets the stage for a series of adventures, as Ned teams up with a private investigator to solve murder cases by temporarily reviving the deceased to ask them about their untimely ends.
<br><br>
Lee Pace masterfully portrays Ned, bringing a perfect balance of vulnerability, charm, and depth to the character. Anna Friel plays Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, Ned's childhood sweetheart who, after being murdered, is brought back to life by him, leading to a touching yet complicated romance where the two can never physically touch. The ensemble cast, including Chi McBride, Kristin Chenoweth, and Ellen Greene, adds layers of humor, emotion, and eccentricity to the narrative.

So, why should "Pushing Daisies" be on your viewing list? For starters, the show's visual aesthetic is a feast for the eyes. <b>Black Books (2000-2004)</b>
<br><br>
Black Books: A Hilariously Chaotic Dive into the World of Literature and Wine
<br><br>
"Black Books," which aired from 2000 to 2004, is a British comedy that offers a delightfully offbeat look into the life of a misanthropic bookshop owner and his equally eccentric friends. Set in a cluttered and dimly lit bookshop in London, the series revolves around Bernard Black, a perpetually grumpy and wine-soaked proprietor who has a deep disdain for customers, modern technology, and essentially anything that requires effort. Alongside him are his long-suffering assistant, Manny, who is often the target of Bernard's ire, and their friend Fran, who runs a shop next door and shares in their daily escapades and misadventures.
<br><br>
Dylan Moran brilliantly portrays Bernard, delivering his lines with a perfect blend of sarcasm, wit, and world-weariness. Bill Bailey's Manny is the lovable and often bewildered counterpoint to Bernard's cynicism, while Tamsin Greig's Fran is the voice of (somewhat) reason, navigating the chaos that surrounds the trio.
<br><br>
So, why should "Black Books" be on your comedy radar? Firstly, its humor is distinctively British – dry, sharp, and often bordering on the absurd. The show's scenarios, from Bernard's attempts to do his taxes to Manny's accidental ingestion of 'The Little Book of Calm,' are both relatable and hilariously exaggerated. The dialogue is quick-witted, and the character dynamics are a joy to watch, making each episode a comedic gem.
<br><br>
Moreover, "Black Books" offers a satirical take on the world of retail and customer service. Through Bernard's interactions (or lack thereof) with his customers, the series highlights the often humorous and sometimes painful realities of running a small business. The show also delves into themes of friendship, the challenges of adulthood, and the escapism found in literature and wine.
<br><br>
In conclusion, "Black Books" is a comedic masterpiece that stands the test of time. Its quirky characters, clever writing, and unique setting make it a standout in the world of sitcoms. If you're in the mood for a show that offers laughter, wit, and a touch of the absurd, then Bernard's bookshop is open for business. Step in, grab a glass of wine, and immerse yourself in the chaotic world of "Black Books."

The IT Crowd: Navigating the Hilarious Depths of Tech and Social Awkwardness
<br><br>
"The IT Crowd," which aired from 2006 to 2013, is a British sitcom that brilliantly captures the quirks and comedic misadventures of an IT department tucked away in the basement of the fictional Reynholm Industries. The series centers on three main characters: Roy, a laid-back technician with a penchant for shirking responsibility; Moss, a socially awkward genius with a heart of gold; and Jen, the department's "relationship manager," who, despite her title, knows next to nothing about computers. Together, this unlikely trio navigates the challenges of office politics, tech disasters, and their own personal dilemmas, all while delivering side-splitting humor.
<br><br>
Chris O'Dowd's portrayal of Roy is both relatable and hilarious, capturing the essence of a tech worker who'd rather be anywhere but at work. Richard Ayoade's Moss is iconic, with his unique blend of innocence, brilliance, and complete lack of social awareness. Katherine Parkinson's Jen serves as the bridge between the tech world and the corporate realm, often finding herself in hilariously over her head.
<br><br>
So, why should "The IT Crowd" be on your watchlist? For starters, its comedic timing is impeccable. The show masterfully blends situational humor with clever dialogue, creating moments that are both laugh-out-loud funny and endearingly human. From Roy's infamous "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" to Moss's adventures on the game show "Countdown," each episode offers a fresh dose of hilarity.

Moreover, "The IT Crowd" offers a satirical look at the world of technology and corporate culture. Through the lens of the basement IT department, the series highlights the often absurd disconnect between tech professionals and the rest of the business world. Detectorists: Unearthing the Beauty in the Mundane
<br><br>
"Detectorists," which aired from 2014 to 2022, is a British comedy-drama that beautifully captures the simple joys and quiet moments of life. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the English countryside, the series follows the lives of Andy and Lance, two metal-detecting enthusiasts who share a dream of finding a buried Saxon treasure. While their hobby involves searching for historical artifacts, the true essence of the show lies in the exploration of their personal lives, relationships, and the tight-knit community of fellow detectorists they belong to.
<br><br>
Mackenzie Crook, who also writes and directs the series, plays Andy with a gentle sincerity, portraying a man searching for purpose both in the ground and in his personal life. Toby Jones shines as Lance, whose dry wit and deep reflections provide many of the show's most memorable moments. Together, their chemistry is undeniable, making Andy and Lance one of television's most endearing duos.
<br><br>
So, why should "Detectorists" be a part of your viewing repertoire? At its core, the show is a meditation on life's small moments. Instead of grand events or dramatic twists, "Detectorists" finds its magic in the mundane: a shared joke between friends, the thrill of a potential find, or the simple pleasure of sitting under a tree on a sunny day. The series' humor is subtle, often rooted in character interactions and the idiosyncrasies of rural life.
<br><br>
Furthermore, "Detectorists" offers a poignant exploration of human connections, dreams, and the passage of time. <b>Patriot (2015-2018)</b>
<br><br>
Patriot: A Darkly Comic Dive into Espionage and Existential Crisis
<br><br>
"Patriot," which aired from 2015 to 2018, is an intriguing blend of dark comedy, drama, and espionage that offers a unique take on the world of international intelligence. The series follows John Tavner, an intelligence officer posing as a mid-level employee at an industrial piping firm. Tasked with preventing Iran from going nuclear, John's mission is anything but straightforward. As he navigates a series of increasingly complicated tasks, he grapples with personal demons, workplace politics, and the inherent absurdities of modern espionage.
<br><br>
Michael Dorman delivers a captivating performance as John Tavner, portraying a deeply conflicted character whose professional challenges are compounded by personal struggles and existential reflections. The supporting cast, including Terry O'Quinn as John's State Department Director father and Kurtwood Smith as a doggedly curious coworker, adds layers of complexity and humor to the narrative.
<br><br>
So, why should "Patriot" be on your must-watch list? Firstly, its approach to the spy genre is refreshingly unconventional. Instead of high-octane action sequences and clear-cut heroes and villains, the show delves into the gray areas of intelligence work, highlighting the moral ambiguities, bureaucratic hurdles, and often mundane realities of the job. The series masterfully balances its dark themes with moments of absurd comedy, creating a tone that is both somber and satirical.
<br><br>
Moreover, "Patriot" offers a deep exploration of identity, duty, and the human psyche. John's character serves as a lens through which the series examines the toll that a life of secrets and deception can take on one's mental well-being. His occasional forays into folk music, where he candidly sings about his covert operations, provide both comic relief and poignant insights into his state of mind.

<div class="newindent"><div class="indentheader">Press Release</div></div>
<div class="newindent">Further details and casting have been announced for The Reckoning, the forthcoming factual drama from the award-winning team of writer Neil McKay and executive producer Jeff Pope (Four Lives, The Moorside, Appropriate Adult). Made by ITV Studios for the BBC, The Reckoning will be broadcast this autumn on BBC One and iPlayer.
<br />
<br />The four-part series will trace the life of Jimmy Savile, a man who, for decades, became one of the UK’s most influential celebrities, but in death has become one of the most reviled figures of modern history following revelations of extensive and horrific abuse. Savile used his involvement in multiple organisations, such as the BBC, hospitals, prisons, and charities, to legitimise himself, forging friendships in showbusiness, politics, journalism, the Catholic Church and even the Royal family to cement his position.
<br />
<br />Using drama’s unique ability to place events in their emotional and historical context, the series will explore how Savile used his celebrity and powerful connections to conceal his crimes and exploit institutional failings. It is important to understand how he was able to hide in plain sight in order to gain a greater understanding of how he evaded justice. The drama aims to highlight the importance of confronting the horrors of the past and talking openly about abuse.
<br />
<br />The team have worked closely with many people whose lives were impacted by Savile to ensure their experiences are told and reflected with sensitivity and respect, and the drama will also draw on extensive, wide-ranging research and published accounts. It will examine the impact his appalling crimes had on his victims, and the powerlessness many felt when they tried to raise the alarm.
<br />
<br />Four survivors of Savile who have contributed to The Reckoning will also feature in the series, interviewed on camera to offer their further insight and to reflect on their experiences in the hope that the telling of their stories will prevent something like it happening again.
<br />
<br />As previously announced, the multi-award winning actor Steve Coogan (Stephen, Philomena, Stan and Ollie) will portray Savile in the series. The drama’s cast will also include the BAFTA-winner Gemma Jones (Marvellous, Gentleman Jack), Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley, Time), Mark Lewis Jones (Outlander, Chernobyl) and Mark Stanley (Happy Valley, White House Farm).
<br />
<br />The Reckoning (4x60’) is written by Neil McKay (Four Lives, Appropriate Adult, The Moorside, Mo, See No Evil), and executive producers are Jeff Pope (Four Lives, Appropriate Adult, The Moorside, Mrs Biggs, Mo) and Neil McKay for ITV Studios, and Lucy Richer (The Sixth Commandment, Time) for the BBC. It was directed by Sandra Goldbacher (Ordeal by Innocence, The Accident), with Clare Shepherd (The A Word, Bancroft) as producer.

<div class="newindent"><div class="indentheader">Press Release</div></div>
<div class="newindent">The BBC has announced the return of hit drama Showtrial, with a brand new cast and explosive murder investigation. Made by World Productions (Vigil, Line of Duty, Anne) for BBC One and iPlayer, the fictional drama is written and created by Ben Richards.
<br />
<br />The new Showtrial will star BAFTA award-winner Adeel Akhtar (Sherwood, Ali & Ava, Utopia), Nathalie Armin (Home, Unforgotten, The Batman), and Michael Socha (The Gallows Pole, Chernobyl, This Is England) and will once again centre around a hotly contested criminal trial that divides the nation and takes place in the full glare of the media spotlight.
<br />
<br />When the high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood is left for dead in a violent hit and run, he uses his dying moments to identify his killer - a serving policeman. But who is this unnamed ‘Officer X’? What does his own history reveal about the nature of trauma and revenge, and was Marcus’s death a careless accident or cold-blooded murder?
<br />
<br />From the victim's last breath to the jury’s final verdict, Showtrial takes us into the worlds of the charismatic and cocky officer Justin Mitchell (Michael Socha); Sam Gill (Adeel Akhtar), an anxious defense solicitor with a reputation for winning lost causes; and Leila Hassoun-Kenny (Nathalie Armin), a rigorous CPS lawyer leading the case against the accused.
<br />
<br />As public outrage reaches fever-pitch, Showtrial questions what happens when a trial is dominated by contentious issues and whether the truth is ever clear cut. Is a fair trial possible when tensions are riding so high?
<br />
<br />Showtrial creator and writer Ben Richards says: “I am very grateful to the BBC for the opportunity to explore another sensational trial which I hope will be just as entertaining as our first outing. I love writing Showtrial and I’m honoured to have a cast of such high quality to deliver it.”
<br />
<br />Adeel Akhtar says: “I’m a big fan of Ben’s writing and so excited to be given the opportunity to join the second series of a brilliant show.”
<br />
<br />Nathalie Armin says: “I’m thrilled to be a part of this brilliant story. Leila is a fascinating role and I can’t wait to bring her to life.”
<br />
<br />Michael Socha says: “Loved series one! I cannot wait to get into the shoes of a character with such depth and ambiguity.”
<br />
<br />Simon Heath, CEO, World Productions says: “Ben’s sharp, timely and provocative scripts have once again attracted a stellar cast to this new season of our Showtrial anthology. I can’t wait to see how Adeel, Nathalie and Michael bring to life Ben’s compelling triumvirate of lead characters.”
<br />
<br />Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama says: "We're so excited to once again join forces with Ben Richards and World Productions to bring a new unmissable Showtrial to BBC One and iPlayer. With Adeel, Nathalie and Michael leading the cast, and a brand new central mystery to be played out in front of the nation, Showtrial will have viewers hooked from the start."
<br />
<br />Showtrial (5x60) is created and written by Ben Richards, directed by Julia Ford (Everything I Know About Love, Safe) and produced by Ken Horn (Line of Duty, The Moorside). Executive producers are Simon Heath and Emma Luffingham for World Productions (an ITV Studios company), with Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC.
<br />
<br />Showtrial is produced with support from Northern Ireland Screen, in association with ITV Studios which will also handle international distribution.
<br />
<br />Filming on Showtrial begins in November in Belfast, and further casting will be announced in due course. Series one is available to stream now in full on BBC iplayer.

<div class="newindent">The BBC and House Productions have announced casting and new details about the second series of James Graham’s award-winning hit drama Sherwood, now filming for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
<br />
<br />Directed by the acclaimed British film director Clio Barnard (Ali & Ava, The Selfish Giant) this new and original fictional story from Nottingham born Graham, will feature a stellar cast line-up including David Harewood (Homeland, The Night Manager), Robert Lindsay (Maleficent 2, My Family), Monica Dolan (Black Mirror, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe), Sharlene Whyte (Stephen, Small Axe), Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones, Vigil), Ria Zmitrowicz (The Power, Three Girls), Aisling Loftus (The Midwich Cuckoos, War and Peace), Robert Emms (Andor, Chernobyl), Michael Balogun (Top Boy, The Lehman Trilogy), Christine Bottomley (Domina, Back To Life), Oliver Huntingdon (The Rising, Happy Valley) Jorden Myrie (Mood, The Strays) and Conor Deane (All Creatures Great & Small, Newark) and Bethany Asher (Wild Bill, Mobility).
<br />
<br />They join David Morrissey (Red Riding, The Walking Dead), Lesley Manville (Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, Mum), Lorraine Ashbourne (Alma’s Not Normal, I Hate Suzie), Philip Jackson (Raised by Wolves, Peterloo), Perry Fitzpatrick (Line of Duty, This Is England), Bill Jones (Sherwood, The Village) and Adam Hugill (1917, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) who will be returning to reprise their roles.
<br />
<br />Sherwood series one was a huge hit when it aired on BBC One and iPlayer in 2022, receiving a BAFTA win for Adeel Aktar as supporting actor and BAFTA nominations for Drama Series and for Lesley Manville as supporting actress as well as the RTS Award win for Best Drama Series. Series one reached a consolidated UK audience of 7.5 million viewers, making it one of the most watched new dramas in Britain that year.
<br />
<br />The second series further explores the powerful themes that made the first so resonant to audiences across the UK; fractured communities, red wall towns and the frayed social and political fabric of modern-day Britain, within a prevailing context of chumocracy, levelling up and political and communal turmoil.
<br />
<br />The series set in the present day introduces two new families that find themselves entangled with the Sparrows, entering a complex web of local gangs, old rivalries, revenge, and betrayal. Whilst a newly appointed Sheriff of Nottingham, is passionately fighting local government and influential business leaders, to save the community from the prospect of a proposed new mine for the area. It brings the promise of much needed jobs and prosperity but also unwelcome reminders of the legacy, that has mired the community for so long.
<br />
<br />Sherwood series two is produced by House Productions and will air on BBC One and iPlayer. James Graham has written all six episodes and will be an executive producer on the series. Clio Barnard is lead director and EP, and the producer is Kate Ogborn (Life After Life; The North Water). Juliette Howell, Tessa Ross and Harriet Spencer are executive producers for House Productions and Jo McClellan for the BBC. BBC Studios, which owns House Productions, is the international distributor of both series.

<div class="newindent"><div class="indentheader">Press Release</div></div>
<div class="newindent">Production has begun for Sky Original film The Radleys, a scarily relatable vampire thriller adapted from the critically acclaimed novel by best-selling author Matt Haig (A Boy Called Christmas) and produced by Genesius Pictures (Good Luck To You Leo Grande, Mrs Lowry and Son). Coming to Sky Cinema in 2024, filming will commence in London and Yorkshire from the start of June for 6 weeks.
<br /><br>
With wickedly funny dialogue and genuine spine-chilling scares, The Radleys explores the turmoil which follows when we deny our deepest, darkest desires. Far from being another bloody vampire story, this is a deliciously dark drama that asks the question “What are you hungry for?”
<br /><br>
Emmy® and Golden Globe® winner Damian Lewis (A Spy Among Friends, Homeland) will be playing a dual role alongside Emmy® winner Kelly Macdonald (Operation Mincemeat, No Country for Old Men) and BAFTA® nominee Shaun Parkes (Small Axe).
<br /><br>
Nestled in a quiet, suburban English town live The Radleys. To their neighbours, they are as ordinary as they come, yet beneath the surface, parents Peter (Lewis) and Helen (Macdonald) are concealing a devastatingly dark secret from their teenage children, Rowan and Clara. They are abstaining vampires, choosing not to drink blood despite their natural cravings, yet becoming more and more bloodthirsty by the day.
<br /><br>
When Clara is unexpectedly attacked by a boy in her class and her natural instincts take over, Peter and Helen are forced to reveal the truth. The shocking revelation encourages lovesick son Rowan and previously vegan Clara to question their own identity and suppressed desires. It’s at this pivotal juncture that Peter’s twin brother Will arrives on the scene (played by Damian Lewis in a dual role). A proud, practicing vampire who openly embraces his hedonistic, bloodthirsty lifestyle, Will forces the family to face their repressed urges even further. Can the family continue to hold back their hidden bloodlust, or will they give in to their true nature?
<br /><br>
A Genesius Pictures production, The Radleys was developed with British Comedy Award winner Jo Brand (Getting on, The More You Ignore Me) and is written by Talitha Stevenson (Late in Summer). The film will be directed by BAFTA® award-winning director Euros Lyn (Heartstopper, Dream Horse) and produced by Debbie Gray (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) with Lewis as executive producer through his production company, Ginger Biscuit Entertainment. Additional executive producers include Julia Stuart and Laura Grange at Sky, Mark Gooder and Alison Thompson at Cornerstone, Peter Touche, Andrea Scarso and Christelle Conan at Ingenious Media and Julian Gleek of Genesius. The film is financed by Sky and Ingenious Media and Cornerstone is handling worldwide sales and distribution.
<br /><br>
Julia Stuart, Director of Original Film at Sky comments: “I'm very excited to watch Matt Haig’s The Radleys come alive on screen as it begins production with top British talent including Damian Lewis and Kelly Macdonald. Wickedly funny and darkly compelling, I’m so pleased to bring this film to Sky Cinema in 2024.”
<br /><br>
Debbie Gray, Managing Director of Genesius Pictures says: “Delighted to be partnering again with the team at Sky Cinema on our adaptation of Matt Haig’s wonderful novel The Radleys. An exciting script to produce and a unique black comedy under Euros Lyn’s brilliant direction."

<div class="newindent"><b>ITV commissions compelling four part drama, Ruth, about the life of Ruth Ellis, starring Lucy Boynton, written by Kelly Jones and produced by Silverprint Pictures</b>
<br />
<br />The gripping story of Britain’s last woman to hang, Ruth Ellis, has been commissioned by ITV as a four-part drama, Ruth, starring Lucy Boynton in the title role, written by Kelly Jones and produced by Silverprint Pictures (part of ITV Studios).
<br />
<br />Set in 1955, Ruth has been commissioned by ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill and Drama Commissioner, Huw Kennair Jones. Huw will be responsible for overseeing production of the series on behalf of ITV. Ruth will premiere on ITV1 and the series will be available for streaming on ITVX.
<br />
<br />Told over two parallel timelines, Ruth reveals secret truths about the case which have remained hidden for decades, poses tantalising questions about what really happened in the months before Ruth killed her lover David Blakely, and sheds light on the life of one of Britain’s most infamous murderesses.
<br />
<br />The drama depicts Ruth’s entry into a dizzying upper class London world that promises so much, but ultimately delivers treachery. We follow her glamorous lifestyle as a young nightclub manageress, her abusive relationship with the man she later gunned down in cold blood, her arrest, trial and the subsequent legal fight to reprieve her before she was hanged by infamous hangman, Albert Pierrepoint, in Holloway Prison, aged just 28.
<br />
<br />Commented Lucy Boynton:
<br />
<br />“Ruth Ellis’ story is a fascinating one. Both she and this complex case have always evoked a strong reaction, and with Kelly’s insightful scripts I’m looking forward to bringing a new perspective to both familiar audiences as well as those who are unaware of her mark on British history.”
<br />
<br />Lucy has most recently appeared in ITV’s three-part adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? adapted and directed by Hugh Laurie. Her credits also include Bohemian Rhapsody, The Ipcress File and newly released biographical film, Chevalier.
<br />
<br />A compelling legal and emotional rollercoaster which explores Ruth’s arrest and trial and the subsequent race against the clock to reprieve her. Ruth, is based on Carol Ann Lee’s acclaimed biography A Fine Day for Hanging: The Real Ruth Ellis Story, and has been adapted by Kelly Jones (The Long Call, Des, Baptiste) and will be produced by critically acclaimed producers, Silverprint Pictures, whose portfolio includes Shetland, Vera and Flesh and Blood.
<br />
<br />Silverprint’s Creative Director, Kate Bartlett (Shetland, Vera, Flesh and Blood, The Long Call) will executive produce the series alongside Antonia Gordon, Development Director for Silverprint Pictures.
<br />
<br />Kelly Jones will write all four scripts and Angie Daniell (Vigil, The Long Call, Alex Rider) will produce the series. Lee Haven Jones (Passenger, Feast, The Long Call) will direct all four episodes.
<br />
<br />Commented Huw Kennair Jones:
<br />
<br />“There is so much more to the Ruth Ellis story than we think we know. Kelly's scripts brilliantly explore not only how the emotional and physical abuse she suffered drove her to commit a terrible crime but also the desperate last-minute attempt to save her as she and her supporters battled an unforgiving Establishment.
<br />
<br />We're thrilled to be working with Lucy Boynton and Silverprint Pictures to bring this compelling story to the ITV and ITVX audience.”
<br />
<br />The powerful mystery of what compelled Ruth Ellis to take the life of the man she was in a passionate but toxic and volatile relationship with will reveal that there was more to this crime of passion than Ruth was prepared to say. Her silence, and resistance to speak of what happened between her and dashing racing driver, Blakely, is far more complex than she admitted.
<br />
<br />Ruth’s solicitor, the low-status but intelligent and sensitive John Bickford, starts to realise some of what she has suffered and believes they must make a case for provocation.
<br />
<br />With stakes that could not be higher, literally life or death, Bickford begins his own investigation and uncovers details that could have saved her life had those facts been aired in court.
<br />
<br />Commented Kate Bartlett:
<br />
<br />“We are delighted that Lucy Boynton will be playing Ruth and know that she will bring all the subtlety, nuance and brilliance of Kelly’s beautiful scripts to life. Ruth Ellis’s story is such an intoxicating, fascinating and resonant one and it has been wonderful having Carol Ann Lee’s definitive book about Ruth to work with. We can’t wait to bring it to screen.”
<br />
<br />With an eclectic and diverse development slate, Silverprint Pictures are committed to working with new and established voices to produce vibrant, distinctive and emotional stories for UK and international audiences across the world.
<br />
<br />Ruth is produced in association with ITV Studios, which will handle global distribution

<div class="newindent"><div class="indentheader">Press Release</div></div>
<div class="newindent">Written by Danny Brocklehurst (Brassic, Ordinary Lies) and produced by Eleven (Sex Education, Red Rose) first-look images have today been released of Michelle Keegan (Our Girl; Brassic) as Kate, Faye Marsay (Game Of Thrones; Black Mirror) as Annie and Warren Brown as Terry (The Responder; Luther) in upcoming drama Ten Pound Poms which is coming soon to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and Stan in Australia.
<br />
<br />Images have also been released of Hattie Hook as Pattie, Finn Treacy as Peter, David Field as Dean, Sophie Gregg as Tina, Cheree Cassidy as Marlene and Rob Collins as Ron.
<br />
<br />The six-part series follows a group of Brits as they leave dreary post-war Britain in 1956 to embark on a life-altering adventure on the other side of the world. For only a tenner, they have been promised a better house, better job prospects and a better quality of life by the sea in sun-soaked Australia.
<br />
<br />But life down under isn’t exactly the idyllic dream the new arrivals have been promised. Struggling with their new identity as immigrants, we follow their triumphs and pitfalls as they adapt to a new life in a new country, far from Britain and familiarity.
<br />
<br />At the heart of the drama are Annie (Faye Marsay) and Terry Roberts (Warren Brown). They try to make the best of the situation for their family, but the poor living conditions at the migrant hostel and local attitudes towards immigrants test them in ways they couldn’t have imagined.
<br />
<br />They aren’t the only people at the hostel avoiding the truth. Kate (Michelle Keegan) is a young nurse who arrives without her fiancé and will do whatever it takes to try and rewrite her devastating past. Bill (Leon Ford) has lost his family business back home and is so desperate to prove he’s living the Australian dream that he’ll stop at nothing in order to get a lifestyle he can’t sustain. Teenager Stevie (Declan Coyle) comes from a troubled background and hopes to use this new adventure to escape his oppressive father. Meanwhile, Ron (Rob Collins), an Indigenous Australian war veteran, struggles with feeling like an outsider in his own country.
<br />
<br />Produced by Eleven, Gaynor Holmes executive produces for the BBC and Amanda Duthie and Cailah Scobie for Stan with Joel Wilson, Olivia Trench and Jamie Campbell executive producing for Eleven. Joining Danny Brocklehurst on the writing team are Ryan Griffen, Smita Bhide and Ava Pickett. It is directed by Jamie Stone and Ana Kokkinos. Sony Pictures Television (SPT) will distribute the series worldwide.
<br />
<br />Filming took place in Australia last year and transmission details will be released in due course.

<div class="newindent"><div class="indentheader">Press Release</div></div>
<div class="newindent">The BBC has announced that hit Belfast-based drama Blue Lights produced by Two Cities Television will return for a second 6 x 60’ series. Directed by Gilles Bannier, co-created and written by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, co-created and co-produced by Louise Gallagher of Gallagher Films, and co-created and produced by Stephen Wright of Two Cities Television, with support from Northern Ireland Screen, Blue Lights launched on BBC One and BBC iPlayer last month to five-star reviews.
<br />
<br />Among those set to reprise their roles in the second series are Siân Brooke, Martin McCann, Katherine Devlin, Nathan Braniff, Joanne Crawford, Andi Osho, and Hannah McClean.

<br />Series one follows three new PSNI probationary recruits as they navigate their way through their first few months in a uniquely dangerous place to be a response police officer. Blue Lights is an authentic, gripping and darkly funny drama about ordinary people doing an extraordinary job.
<br />
<br />Early figures for Blue Lights continue to climb with the first episode currently averaging 6.4 million. The series has grown its young audience week-on-week on BBC iPlayer and is the third most requested programme since release among all individuals and 16-34s.
<br />
<br />Stephen Wright, Executive Producer of Blue Lights and Creative Director and Joint CEO of Two Cities TV says: “We are thrilled by the audience response to the show. Belfast is a vibrant, dynamic and complex place and we have a wealth of stories yet to come from our characters. We can’t wait to bring these to the fans.”
<br />
<br />Lindsay Salt, Director of Drama BBC, adds: “Blue Lights has been a breakout hit and so many of our viewers have taken the rookies to their hearts which is down to the fantastic cast and Declan and Adam’s vision. We can’t wait to have it back on BBC One and iPlayer for a second series.”

<br />Filming on series two begins this summer in Belfast and further casting will be announced in due course.
<br />
<br />BBC Studios will be the international distributor of both series one and two. Two Cities is part of the STV Studios family of production labels.
