Even though Transparent is an ensemble show that revolves around a Jewish family, Maura Pfefferman has been its central character from the very beginning on. In the very first episode of the series, Maura was still known as Mort, a father of three adult children and ex-husband of Shelly Pfefferman. In the pilot episode, he came out to his family as transgender and started her journey of becoming the woman on the outside she had always been on the inside. For four seasons, we witnessed Maura’s transition, suffered with her, cried with her and celebrated with her. When actor Jeffrey Tambor, who portrayed Maura, was fired for sexually assaulting fellow cast members, Maura was the consequential collateral damage. The actor left, the character died and the TV show was cut short several seasons.

The show’s creator and executive producer Jill Soloway decided to turn the final episode of the show into a 100-minute long musical film to celebrate Maura’s life. On paper a musical episode certainly sounds like a lovely idea, watching it, however, was rather tedious.

Maura’s ex-wife Shelly tries to deal with her grief by writing a musical about her family and Sarah, Josh and Allie – who came out as non-binary and goes by Ari now – are overwhelmed by their loss and all the responsibilities it brings with it. There really is not much going on in terms of plot which makes watching the 100-minutes film rather frustrating. The songs were not particularly catchy but the actors made as much as possible out of the material they were offered.

What the finale got right is that it brought back all the popular guest stars for Maura’s Shiva: Maura’s friend Devina, Josh’s son, Sarah’s Ex Tammy who is once again with Barb, Ari’s Ex and poet Leslie, the pre-school teacher who Sarah and her husband Len were a thruple with, yoga instructor Shea and rabbi Raquel who Josh ended up with once more.

Before watching the finale I had planned on writing a long, in-depth review but after having seen it I did not feel very inspired to type out a detailed essay.

The show was great, the ending was not.

How did you like the musical episode? Do you think the ending did the show justice?
Hello everyone and welcome to another WRT! Another week behind us and a really heated week ahead of us. This week I`m (MK) joined by SpoilerTV writers: Laura (LS), Gina (GK), Yon (SJ), Abi (AB), Rachel (RW), Joey (JH), Jamie (JC), Milo (MI) & Jessica (JN). As always feel free to join the discussion in the comment section down below

1. There is still a Man standing, at least in Fox`s house. The ABC comedy starring Tim Allen is in the process of getting uncancelled. Thoughts on Fox decision? Does LMS fit the Fox Line up?

MK: I personally think this is completely off brand for Fox and doesn`t fit their schedule. Fox is a younger-skewing network and doesn`t seem a show like LMS will draw in the crowd for them. But we shall see, let them prove me wrong but only if the whole cast comes back.

GK: I'm just glad Last Man Standing is coming back. Don't care if it was Fox, Netflix, or CMT. The show was really good.

SJ: Fox potentially picking up the Last Man Standing surprises and doesn't surprise me. For Fox the Network it is completely on brand, and hey, it might end up being more successful for them than it was on ABC. But I really need Networks picking up reboots etc and uncancelling shows to stop. Sure these reboots + revivals may make them a ton of money brand wise but giving how congested TV already is? Creativity, as we've seen with streaming/cable shows, is what brings people in. Not the tried and tested. It's extremely boring, and whilst I'm not gonna condemn fans for being happy that their show is potentially being brought back, I think it just speaks for the state of Fox on a whole that they're even considering this. I will forever be bitter with CBS for canceling 2 Broke Girls. It might've been problematic in places, but it never failed to make me laugh and gave us one of television's finest comedic duos in Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings (and I really need them to reunite at some point in the future). From what I remember last year the show was canceled because it was too expensive for CBS to consider renewing with how the ratings slid. That only happened because they kept putting the show on soooooo many breaks & changing the timeslots/day and this is the same Network that actually thought 9JKL and Living Biblically were funny.

AB: I think Last Man Standing might fit Fox's programming a little better than Two Broke Girls but I don't think reviving LMS is going to bring them the numbers that they need. Fox has a lot of low-rated shows (as in live viewers) and I just don't think this will pull the numbers that TPTB are thinking they might. I could be wrong, but I'm surprised at how keen they seem to be about it.

JH: I've never watched a full episode of Last Man Standing and based on the trailers and bits I've seen, I'm not really sure it's for me, so I don't personally feel anything about this. However, if I recall, the numbers for this show weren't terrible and certainly not low enough to warrant a cancellation, so I'm happy for the fans and the cast that they're getting the second chance they really shouldn't have had to have.

2. 1 week into May Sweeps and things just started to get good. What season/series finale you anticipating the most? And who do you believe will deliver the best shocker/surprise/cliffhanger?

MK: I am really excited and sad to see how Arizona and April will leave the GA-verse, meanwhile Flash and Arrow have the potential for exceptional finales so that should be interesting. Otherwise I expect a coupld of good twist from OUAT as they have only two more eps to show.

SJ: I'm really interested to see how exactly Agents of SHIELD & iZombie wrap proceedings. SHIELD we've already been told was written as a series finale, but I'm interested to see whether they have completely given the show closure or dangled any crumbs. iZombie, well this season has been far better than the dud that was s3 with many twists + turns and interesting storylines, and with the ratings the way they are, I'm hoping they were smart enough to tie up storylines. I expect Arrow to give Paul Blackthorne a fitting send-off, Supergirl to attempt to end things on a high The 100 to probably end in a bloodbath & I'm intrigued to see where exactly Siren take their first season (and still waiting on that renewal Freeform!)

AB: Loved Superstore's finale! Looking forward to seeing how SVU could knock it out of the park after some stellar episodes lately and how Lucifer will up their game and possibly wrap things up. It'll be interesting to see as well how Grey's tackle their season finale. Also, I know it's cable but I'm fully expecting a great twist in the Shadowhunters mid-season finale.

RW: With Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew’s upcoming departure, I’m interested in seeing how the Grey’s season finale is going to play out. I know Ellen Pompeo said in a recent interview that both characters were going to get a good send off, but I mean... C’mon, it’s Shondaland. One thing’s for sure though: tissues will definitely be needed.

JH: Definitely looking forward to SHIELD finale, mainly to see if there are any repercussions from the recent Avengers that tie into it. As for the most shocking? After the Jane the Virgin finale, I don't think there's anything else this season that will shock/surprise/cliffhang me as much. They've ruined May Sweeps for me, in the best possible way!

JC: I'm really looking forward to the SHIELD finale, but it better not be the series finale because we all know it'll have a cliffhanger. Aside from that, I'm curious to see how OUAT wraps things up, how Arizona and April's exits play out on Grey's Anatomy and hope that Chloe will finally find out the truth on Lucifer.

MI: I'm behind on The Americans but I'm really excited and nervous to see how that wraps up. It's been a phenomenal season and I'm not ready to see it go considering that it's one of my favorite shows of the decade. Keri Russell has been quietly putting in the best performance of any actress on television since Carrie Coon in The Leftovers, so I really hope both her and Matthew Rhys are in Emmys consideration once again.

JN: With Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew departing Grey’s Anatomy, I’m really looking forward (and extremely worried) about how the season is going to end. Viewers got an idea of how Arizona will leave town in last week’s episode, but the promo for the penultimate episode really has me worried about April’s future. It’s extremely hard for characters to survive and leave the show, but it’s almost unheard of them riding off into the sunset. So I really hope these two characters get a strong send-off.

3. Times up! The final cancellation and renewal decision will be made. Which fans will throw a surprise feast and which will drown in cancellation tears?

MK: I`m mostly worried about my Fox shows, B99 & Gotham. Also Speechless and FotB could go either way. I do hope all 4 can score a renewal. I Think a surprising cancellation could be Lucifer and Lethal Weapon, while Rise may score a renewal. Just a hunch.

LS: I really only care about learning B99’s fate. That being said, I am very interested to see which shows bite the bullet this year.

GK: I'm hoping against hope the following shows are renewed: Agents of Shield, The Brave, and Blindspot.

SJ: This is always a hard question for me because I really don't like celebrating any show being canceled because of the impact on the people behind the scenes, but I'll be extremely shocked if Timeless is given another season. The ratings just haven't been there, surprising slightly since fan power is what persuaded NBC to uncancel it. I can, unfortunately, see SHIELD & iZombie both being in massive danger. SHIELD might be saved by Marvel's intervention like it reportedly was last year, and maybe Mark will give iZombie a pity renewal but I, unfortunately, don't see that happening. Rise I don't think has made quite the impact that NBC was expecting, and the same goes for Station 19 and For The People on ABC, but out of the two For The People will probably get the chop. I would love if ABC does renew Speechless because it's such a unique, heartwarming comedy, I'm of course also routing for Siren to be renewed by Freeform, but I'm honestly more interested in the show's potentially being picked up.

AB: It might be controversial, but I really don't see how Lucifer will be able to pull off a renewal, same for Timeless and Agents Of Shield as well. I think Brooklyn Nine-Nine will get the same treatment as Bones and New Girl in their last seasons with a shortened send-off. I can also see How To Get Away With Murder returning for a final season but on the surprises side it could be possible that Criminal Minds is canceled if they can't get deals in place (it was a close call last year) and a possible cancellation of one of the ABC comedies.

JH: I'm devastated to say I don't think we'll be getting another season of For the People. A shame people haven't found it. I'm also prepared to say goodbye to Lucifer and a few others. It's gonna be a sad end of season for me. I'm pretty sure How to Get Away with Murder will be renewed, but I'm nervous they won't let them plan it as the final season, because there's no way the ratings will hold next season to earn another and I really would like a proper ending for it. I'll certainly keep my fingers crossed for the next few weeks though!

JC: There's only really a few shows that I'm attached enough to hope for a renewal. The rest could go either way and I'd be fine with it. Some of the former include Agents of SHIELD, Timeless (which I've gotten attached to this season), Lucifer.

MI: I'm hoping for Agents of SHIELD, The 100, Gotham, The Expanse, Elementary, Legion and Brooklyn Nine-Nine renewals if possible. I think The 100 fans might be lucky because The CW is super generous with renewals and with Jane the Virgin and The Originals ending plus the move to Sunday nights will give them a bit more room to work with, but I'm less sure on SHIELD. Hopefully, it gets another season because of corporate synergy, but given that IIRC they've written this season to be their last if it gets a good ending, I'm more than happy to let it go out on a high. The Expanse has simply been among the best genre programming in a while and I like to think that the only reason why it hasn't been renewed yet is because we're in the middle of a season. Legion on the other hand - despite it being one of the most unique shows and the best comic book show on television at the moment, looks like it's a goner - but FX might keep it around for one more season to keep gifted showrunner Noah Hawley happy so there's reason to be optimistic there. Even if the extended episode count may mean it's getting ready for the end.

JN: Given Timeless’s continued declining ratings, I can’t really see NBC saving the show for the second time, so I’m pretty sure fans aren’t going to be too happy with the show’s impending cancellation. Another show on the bubble that may be cut is Lucifer. Despite FOX renewing The Gifted, which had lower ratings, I’m not sure if this supernatural procedural will get a fourth season. While it wouldn’t be the craziest thing the network has done – FOX did renew Scream Queens for a second season after all – I think it really depends on how strong the pilots are.

4. Jefferey Tambor is sneaking his way into Arrested Development Season 5 after getting booted out of Transparent. Thoughts? Is it too early for him to return? And what does this say about "all the changes" happening?

LS: It would be pretty difficult to have a season of AD without the patriarch. That being said, it’s going to be rather difficult for me to enjoy the season. He was probably already filming it before the news came to light, so I don’t know about it being too soon. Hopefully, his role got reduced. That’s about all I can say. Though I am still intrigued about where this 5th season will go.

SJ: Granted I haven't watched past maybe the first 2 episodes of Arrested Development since as much as I tried it just didn't wow me, but considering it took one of their Executives being caught on camera making comments about Danny Masterson's rape allegations for Netflix to actually fire him? Keeping Jeffrey Tambor on Arrested Development doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I don't think it's the right message to be sending at all, and somewhat flies in the face of the good work the Me Too movement has been trying to achieve.

AB: I don't condone what Jeffrey Tambor has done in the slightest, but I think filming for Arrested Development had either finished or was close to finishing when the allegations surfaced and at that point, especially with the cast's schedules, I think Netflix wouldn't have wanted to throw away a whole season's worth of filming and then have the writers rewrite the entire season around him. Netflix hasn't exactly had the best track record with these things (looking at you Danny Masterson) so I'm really not surprised that Jeffrey Tambor will be there. Whilst I really don't agree with him being in the season, and I think it's showcasing someone who doesn't deserve it, I thought everyone knew he would be in it because of BTS photos of filming season 5. I'm not surprised but that doesn't make it okay just because I suspected it was going to happen.

JH: 'm pretty positive that filming wrapped on the show when the allegations started, so I'm not surprised by this, nor am I upset about it. He's undoubtedly a large part of the show so simply cutting his parts would not be an option, and cancelling the entire season because of one man's new reputation would be unfair to everyone else who worked so hard to make the season come together. If they do end up making the sixth season, I would expect him not to be there, or only in the first episode or so for them to kill off the character. We'll see what the future may hold!

MI: To be honest, this has kind of killed my anticipation a lot for Season 5. I will check it out because of the rest of the cast and the show itself, but seeing Tambor in this again sucks and I'm no longer as keen for a revival as I was before.

15th February 2018 - Jeffrey Tambor Confirmed Not to Return

Over three months after first being accused of sexual harassment on the set of Transparent, Jeffrey Tambor is officially off the Amazon series. While it is still unclear if the upcoming fifth season of the Emmy winning Jill Soloway created show will be its last, it is very clear that Tambor will not be part of the new season at all, I’ve learned.

With the investigation by Amazon into multiple allegations of misconduct by the Golden Globe and Emmy winner recently completed, the decision to cut theMaura Pfefferman portraying Tambor from Transparent was made in the past week. This of course comes Tambor said on November 19 that “I don’t see how I can return to Transparent” citing the growing claims against him and “the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set.” The actor and his reps then tried to walk back that declaration after it was widely viewed as an exit from the series.

Today Amazon confirmed to Deadline that Tambor is not coming back and that the harassment investigation was recently concluded.

“I have great respect and admiration for Van Barnes and Trace Lysette, whose courage in speaking out about their experience on Transparent is an example of the leadership this moment in our culture requires," Ji;ll Soloway said in a statement Thursday. "We are grateful to the many trans people who have supported our vision for Transparent since its inception and remain heartbroken about the pain and mistrust their experience has generated in our community. We are taking definitive action to ensure our workplace respects the safety and dignity of every individual, and are taking steps to heal as a family.”
1. CW delivered another scheduling surprise and benched SG for spring after a short winter run. Was this to be expected with Showrunner AK fired and will this hurt both Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow.

SB: I don't think the situation with Andrew Kreisberg has anything to do with this. There is already speculation that maybe the production could benefit from some time off to get caught up/adjust in the wake of recent events, but I honestly don't buy that. Most fall show writers rooms are probably making their way through the second half of the season. Filming will still be rolling until whenever the break for the holidays is. The show is still returning in January for just under a month. If the break really was so they could make changes in light of his departure, I don't think they're changes that can be made over a months Christmas break especially if they're to make sense. The show would need to come back at least a month or 2 later and it's not. Plus given the news on Kevin Spacey's departure from House of Cards and production being halted so the writers could rework the season in light of that, am I really supposed to believe The CW would be able to keep the true reason of the scheduling quiet? Nope. The scheduling just reaks of The CW's incompetency. It was said back during upfronts that they had too many shows on their schedule & not enough room to air them all so there'd need to be quite a few cancellations to fit in the renewals & new shows. That didn't happen and this is what you end up with.

It reminds me of back in the day when The CW had just been created, and they pulled a similar stunt with One Tree Hill and an American Next Top Model spin-off. There were rumors for weeks that One Tree Hill was going to get shafted to make way, but The CW refused to say anything and I don't believe the cast or crew knew either. Then after 4.15 which ended on a brutal cliffhanger, the show went on hiatus for 3 months and the last 6 episodes aired from May through till June. It was completely stupid, One Tree Hill lost a lot of momentum and I see the same thing happening to Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. Casual fans are not going to be keeping up to date with which show is on which week. Those on the Internet may know, but even then it's still hard to keep track of and I'll be extremely surprised if both shows don't end up with record low viewing figures by the time the season's end.

BW: Honestly, I had not thought about the situation with AK when I saw this news. What I thought was that The CW had too many shows, and not enough slots so some of the DC shows will have to take a hit. I am happy LOT will come back in February and think it has a stable base but worry about how this will hit SG. This is also a catch 22 because I am a fan of two shows that we are waiting with bated breath for premiere dates, The Originals and The 100. So my other thought was maybe one of these will benefit from this 'creative scheduling'. But I quickly crashed back to reality and realized that their other new midseason show, Life Sentence needed a slot and tag teaming Legends and Supergirl probably was the quick fix to free up Valor's spot when it ends its one and done. Either way, it is a blessing and a curse that the CW is so generous with renewals because we as fans must be patient with their schedules.

MK: It is a messy situation and raises up so many question marks why and how the future will look for both shows. The "Era" of Superhero shows is slowly coming to an end on broadcast and it obviously shows. Is this AK related? Maybe but overall this is very sad cause Supergirl surprisingly found it's groove. A 4th season is guaranteed for both show but how many eps and how many seasons after this is quite a mystery at this point.

2. Big Little Lies officially scored the 2nd season. Does money trump the notion of Limited series or is this second season something necessary?

SB: I don't really have a horse in this race, but I very much think the decision to bring it back is about the money and accolades. When season 1 first finished they were all very keen to stress it was a one and done, which many were happy about. Then of course with the awards and the constant speculation, the mood started to change and now we've got a confirmed season 2. They'll be a lot of pressure to maintain the same quality of season 1 and not look as those they're continuing for the sake of the accolade and for the show's fans, I hope it is a success. From my own personal point of view, I've already read 4737594395 articles on this show, which will only get worse now that season 2 has been confirmed and I'm not looking forward to it.

MI: I feel this is cheating a bit, delaying the announcement of Season 2 so they could treat it as a limited series and get a better chance with awards. It's easy to see why HBO has done it though after True Detective being put in the main category and losing out because it went up against Breaking Bad. I'm really excited for a season two though, not only because the cast is great but also Andrea Arnold makes the jump from film to the small screen. I loved American Honey so am really excited to see what she can do at the director's chair here - especially after Jean-Marc Vallee did such an incredible job following up on the excellent Dallas Buyers Club, Wild, and Demolition.

BW: I am conflicted on this renewal. I LOVED BLL and thought the story was so compelling and of course, with that bank of talent, anyone would want more and this is evident by HBO wanting to keep the money train rolling. But, I also worry about no more source material to work with, they may stretch the story a little thin and it will not live up to the huge expectation it has. I guess since this is a go, I will hope for the best and believe that with such A-list talent eager to return it is not just about money and that the script has to be A+, but I am still a bit apprehensive at how they match their first season success.

CS: Big Little Lies was an amazing limited series and wrapped up perfectly. Why mess with perfection? But like everything, it is about the money. It was popular and award-winning and people begged for more.

3. Jeffrey Tambor has (apparently) second thoughts on his exit from Transparent. Why didn't Amazon react already?

SB: It's really hard to comment on this situation because there's obviously a lot going on that we don't know, but I did find his statement very surprising. It's not a situation that I think Amazon has handled well at all and I can only assume more will come out on this in time.

CS: Jeffrey Tambor is just another example of a man in Hollywood who thinks he can do whatever he wants. Amazon should follow Netflix’s example in their firing of Danny Masterson. Tambor has to learn the hard way that it’s a brand new world in Hollywood and America.

MK: Surprised and saddened by the lack of action on Amazon's side. I found it a decent move from Jeffrey to exit without any fuzz but not that he twitched his tail between his legs, I'm quite annoyed by Amazon for not stepping up.

4. Critics Choice awards! Winners and obvious snubs? Thoughts?

SB: Having been wowed by the trailers it isn't surprising that Lady Bird & The Shape of Water are up for best picture. I'm also really glad Baby Driver is nominated for best action movie because it was an absolute delight & I can't wait to rewatch it. Also, really glad Girls Trip was nominated for best comedy and it's a film very much on my watchlist (my local cinema refusing to show this over Minions will never not annoy me) Adam Sandler being amongst the best actors in a comedy is beyond a joke. Guy hasn't made a film that is actually funny in years. On the TV front if The Crown doesn't win it will be an absolute travesty. I could settle for This Is Us or The Handmaid's Tale, just no Game of Thrones or Stranger Things (sorry but I think those shows are massively over-rated). How on earth The Sinner hasn't gotten a limited series nomination I don't know, but Jessica Biel has got an actress nomination and she deserves to win. She was absolutely beyond phenomenal on that show. Rick and Morty being up for animated series also please me. Season 3 might've been a gigantic mess, but it's still the best-animated series around. The fact that Brooklyn Nine-Nine and indeed Andre Braugher aren't up for the comedy awards is quite honestly a disgrace. Especially when you've got Modern Family & The Big Bang Theory nominated.

MI: I have a lot to talk about here, movie and TV-wise. A lot of the movies I haven't seen yet don't actually come out in my country until next year or didn't air in my cinema altogether - but the ones that I have seen - The Big Sick, Get Out and Dunkirk was incredible and certainly deserve their place. I feel like Blade Runner 2049 was snubbed though and should have been in with a shout over Darkest Hour - it looks like a standard awards-baity biopic, but I could be wrong. Seeing Patrick Stewart and Dafne Green get a supporting actor/young actor/actress nod for Logan is excellent too. At this point, Modern Family is pretty much guaranteed a spot on best comedy series and I really wish the awards nominees would move away from that - as evidenced by their best actor in a comedy series nominations there's so much potential to replace it like Master of None and Brockmire. And how The Big Bang Theory got nominated over Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Veep and Silicon Valley, I'll never know. The drama series line-up is a mixed bag too, with some deserved nods for Stranger Things, The Crown and The Handmaid's Tale, with a welcoming surprise nod for American Gods, but Game of Thrones has been below par this year and The Leftovers not getting nominated is the biggest snub of the year. The show has been incredible this year and to see it left out is a crying shame indeed as it should have been a clear winner. It's great to see Tatiana Maslany get a nod for best actress in her final year on Orphan Black though - can't wait to see where she goes next. Better Call Saul getting snubbed but Bob Odenkirk getting a best actor nomination is a peculiar choice as well, that show has been on fire this year. Seeing as Outlander and American Gods both got some nominations, I would have loved to have seen some love for Black Sails - especially considering it is better than both. And in the limited series category, it's great to see Godless and American Vandal get some love too as I really enjoyed both.

CS: The Critics choice awards Modern Family has not been a good show since season 3 WHY is it still getting nominated? The young actors on that show are horrible. The young actors in the middle are SO much better. Modern Family will be off the air for years and it will still get nominated. It’s 2017 people, not 2010!

MK: My biggest snubs are in the comedy categories. No love for B99, The Middle, and Megan Mullaly is just pure nonsense.

Jeffrey Tambor Takes Back Exit; Final Decision Not Made

Jeffrey Tambor said last month that he did not see how he could return to Amazon series “Transparent” following multiple misconduct allegations against him from trans women who worked on the show. The actor now appears to be backpedaling from what was widely reported at the time as his decision to leave the series.

“What he said was that given the toxic atmosphere and the politicization on the set, it’s very hard for him to see how he can possibly return,” a spokesperson for Tambor said Wednesday. “But no final decision for next year has been made, either by Jeffrey or by Amazon.”

The New York Times reported Wednesday that Tambor’s unresolved status has left in limbo plans for the show’s upcoming fifth season. Amazon is currently investigating misconduct allegations against the actor, and results of that effort are not yet known. An Amazon representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Jeffrey Tambor Exits

EXCLUSIVE: Facing two accusations of sexual harassment by members of the Transparent team that he has strongly denied, Jeffery Tambor today has decided not to return to the Amazon series.

“Playing Maura Pfefferman on Transparent has been one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my life,” the Emmy winning actor told Deadline on Sunday. “What has become clear over the past weeks, however, is that this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago,” Tambor added of his role as the lead on the Jill Soloway created show.

“I’ve already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue,” Tambor asserted as well. “Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don’t see how I can return to Transparent.”

EXCLUSIVE: Just more than a week after Amazon opened an investigation into sexual harassment allegations against Jeffrey Tambor, the Transparent star today has been accused by a transgender actress on the acclaimed series of similar behavior. Tambor, who says he can at times be “volatile and ill-tempered,” denies the claims.

Comparable to the accusations made by Tambor’s former assistant Van Barnes, Trace Lysette alleges that the actor made lewd, sexually suggestive and unwelcomed remarks to her on a number of occasions, says a statement obtained by Deadline.

In her allegations, Lysette advocates for the Jill Soloway created Transparent and Amazon to “remove the problem and let the show go on.”

“This information will be added to the ongoing investigation,” an Amazon spokesperson said today of Lysette’s accusations. No official complaint about Tambor has been made by Lysette to Amazon, Deadline also has learned.

Source:

Deadline

Tambor issued this statement to THR in response to Lysette's allegations:

For the past four years, I’ve had the huge privilege — and huge responsibility — of playing Maura Pfefferman, a transgender woman, in a show that I know has had an enormous, positive impact on a community that has been too long dismissed and misunderstood. Now I find myself accused of behavior that any civilized person would condemn unreservedly. I know I haven’t always been the easiest person to work with. I can be volatile and ill-tempered, and too often I express my opinions harshly and without tact. But I have never been a predator — ever. I am deeply sorry if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being sexually aggressive or if I ever offended or hurt anyone. But the fact is, for all my flaws, I am not a predator and the idea that someone might see me in that way is more distressing than I can express.

An Amazon spokesperson says, "This information will be added to our ongoing conversation."

Lysette issued this statement to THR:

Last week, it was reported in the media that Van Barnes, who previously worked as Jeffrey Tambor's assistant while shooting Transparent, had privately spoken out on her social media about her experiences of abuse. Sadly, I must add my voice to the chorus. Jeffrey has acted inappropriate to me too.

Source:

Read More on THR

In its early stages, the probe primarily stems from allegations by Tambor’s former assistant Van Barnes of implied inappropriate behavior on the part of the Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Awards winner. The investigation into the claims by the transgender Barnes, which she made online in a private Facebook post, began earlier this week, we hear. In the post, she claims that her former boss, whom she does not identify by name, had repeatedly propositioned her, made lewd comments, groped her and threatened to sue her if she spoke up.

“I am aware that a former disgruntled assistant of mine has made a private post implying that I had acted in an improper manner toward her,” Tambor told Deadline today. “I adamantly and vehemently reject and deny any and all implication and allegation that I have ever engaged in any improper behavior toward this person or any other person I have ever worked with. I am appalled and distressed by this baseless allegation.”

“Anything that would diminish the level of respect, safety and inclusion so fundamental to our workplace is completely antithetical to our principles,” Soloway said in a statement today. “We are cooperating with the investigation into this matter.”
After a couple of weeks off, Bradley and The ODI are back. This week, we're discussing a range of things. "Justice League" came out last week and although neither of us have seen it, we talk a bit about its critical reception and box office performance, before having a brief discussion on "Thor: Ragnarok". The Punisher was released on Friday on Netflix and I've seen all 13 episodes, so I give a few details on what works and what doesn't about it. Finally, we have a trio of The Walking Dead episodes to discuss. One of them was actually good!

Of the premium content offered by the Big Three streamers, the most popular shows in September from each were The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu), The Man in the High Castle (Amazon) and Narcos (Netflix), according to Parrot Analytics.

Subscription video-on-demand, popularized by Netflix, was an $8.21 billion industry last year and will grow to $14.03 billion by 2021, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Such growth, though, means cable and satellite TV may struggle with customers cutting the cord while younger consumers choose never to subscribe in the first place. There were 16.7 million cord-cutters by 2016, according to eMarketer, and there will be 40.1 million by 2021. There were 32.5 million cord-nevers (Americans who have never subscribed to pay television) in 2016, and that will rise to 41 million by 2021.

Even free, over-the-air broadcast television won’t be immune to the competition from streaming. EMarketer says that the average adult American watched four hours and 10 minutes of TV — be it free, cable or satellite — per day in 2017, but that number will fall to three hours and 47 minutes in 2019. Meanwhile, time spent with digital media was one hour and 10 minutes in 2016, and that will grow to one hour and 26 minutes in 2019.
Robin Thomas (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Zoo) has been tapped to play DDA David Conn on NBC's upcoming, Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, anthology, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The eight-episode first installment of the anthology is described as a "gripping in-depth dramatization" of the famed murder case that took America by storm in the early 1990s. When brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez were tried on national TV for brutally killing their parents in Beverly Hills on Aug. 20, 1989, their story became a nationwide obsession. Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders dives into the players, the crime and the media circus, detailing the day-to-day battles of the trial and unveiling the shocking truth of what really went down behind the scenes.

Thomas will appear in the final two episodes of the first season as a quietly ferocious lawyer who is assigned to prosecute the Menendez brothers during their second trial. (Their first trial famously ended with a hung jury.)
Thanks to A for the heads up

EXCLUSIVE: History has given the green light to The Breach: Inside The Impeachment of Bill Clinton, a six-part scripted drama series from R.J. Cutler based on Peter Baker’s bestseller The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton. FremantleMedia North America will produce in association with A+E Studios.

Written by Cutler and David K. Israel and to be directed and executive produced by Cutler, the political thriller, which is now casting, looks at how one of the nation’s biggest political scandals unfolded – from the revelation that President Clinton was having an affair with Monica Lewinsky, through the political combat that saw Hillary Clinton, Newt Gingrich, Prosecutor Ken Starr, Congressman Bob Livingston and many others dominating the national headlines. The series will take viewers inside Republican and Democrat war rooms, revealing the infighting among the President’s advisers, the secret back-channel negotiations between the White House and Congress, Tom DeLay’s strategy to force President Clinton out of office, and the Democrats’ pressure for Clinton to resign.

“Featuring an array of well-known modern political figures, The Breach will bring audiences behind the scenes of an event that changed Washington forever – the first impeachment of an elected president in American history,” said History’s EVP Programming Eli Lehrer. “This drama builds upon our core scripted programming slate of compelling, contemporary storytelling that embraces our recent history and we are confident R.J. will bring a unique vision to President Clinton’s gripping story.”

Ratings Growth Streak With The Guest Book, People of Earth and Wrecked

The Guest Book **is 2017's #1 New Cable Comedy

All Three Shows Rank Among Cable’s Top 10 Comedies in Key Demos

All TBS Original Comedies Seeing Ratings Growth Over Previous Seasons

Turner’s TBS has renewed three of the network’s most recent hit original series: The Guest Book, People of Earth and Wrecked. All three shows rank among the top 10 cable comedies with adults 18-49 in Live +7, and The Guest Book is cable's #1 new comedy series of the year. The network's summer series join TBS' previous 2017 renewals, including the dysfunctional family comedy The Detour and police procedural spoof Angie Tribeca.

The Guest Book is currently averaging 3.5 million viewers per episode across TBS platforms, and is currently the #1 new cable comedy this year.

All of the network’s returning series have shown impressive ratings growth season over season. Among today’s renewals, People of Earth brought in 2.7 million multiplatform viewers per episode, up 22% over season one (P18-34) in linear Live + 7, and Wrecked attracted 3.6 million multiplatform viewers per episode, up 7% over last season (P18-34) in linear Live + 7. Among previously renewed shows, Angie Tribeca was up 17% over its previous season (P18-34) and The Detour was up 3% (P18-49).

"Since rebranding this network just two years ago, we have renewed 100% of our scripted originals, which have all generated impressive audience growth in an environment that’s seeing mostly declines," said Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS. "Our shows are connecting with fans and we’re going to keep making these genuinely funny comedies with the best creators in this business."

The most recognizable name in the bunch is likely Louise Brealey, who became a fan favorite on BBC’s Sherlock as the lovelorn Molly Hooper. Brealey will take on the role of Gillian Chamberlain, a witch who resents Diana Bishop’s resistance to embracing the Oxford coven.

Owen Teale will portray Peter Knox, a power-hungry witch who threatens Diana when she discovers a long-lost manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library. Teale is trading in one fantasy series for another, having recently portrayed the treasonous Master-at-Arms Alliser Thorne on Game of Thrones.
For fans of the series, the casting of Marcus Whitmore — vampire Matthew’s adopted son and lab assistant — has been one of the most highly anticipated bits of news. Relative newcomer Edward Bluemel, who will be seen shortly on Ovation’s The Halcyon, will step into the vampire’s shoes.

Author Deborah Harkness recently told EW she’s been hearing Bluemel’s voice in her head as she writes the next book in the best-selling All Souls series. “The person who I have heard creeping more into my attention is the person who’s playing Marcus because I’m spending so much more time with Marcus,” she said. “I hear it with a slightly different inflection than I might have previously and that’s just a lot of fun.
Scottish actor Greg McHugh will portray Hamish Osborne, daemon and loyal confidante of Matthew Clairmont. Aisling Loftus (War and Peace) will take on the role of Sophie Norman, a pregnant daemon who ends up playing a crucial role in the centuries-old intrigue of the All Souls trilogy.
Elarica Johnson, who keen Harry Potter fans will recognize from a brief scene at the beginning of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Princess, will step into the shoes of Juliette Durand, a bloodthirsty and murderous vampire from Matthew’s past.
Miriam Shepherd, the prickly vampire and Matthew Clairmont’s lab assistant, will be played by Aiysha Hart (Atlantis).

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
Last year’s winner “Game of Thrones” doesn’t air until July and it’s out of the game, freeing space for a lot of newcomers in various categories. There’s also “Downton Abbey” which ended its run last year. So, the most important category offers at least two new shows competing for the gold.

The underrated “The Americans” finally got noticed by the Television Academy last year, when it got three big nominations, including one for Drama Series. It’s safe to say it’s staying there. “Better Call Saul” and “House of Cards” are also in the play, the latter one premiering this year later than usual, which could test the Oscars tactic of releasing new seasons just before the deadline. There is also “Homeland”, a regular nominated show for years. And last year’s newcomer was “Mr. Robot” for its first season.

Without champion “Game of Thrones”, HBO it’s not giving up. They would want to get as many as possible nominations from the ones they had last year with the critically acclaimed “Westworld”. Another show worthy of promoting for the Emmys is Damon Lindelof’s “The Leftovers”, which just started its third (and final season) and it’s garnering well-deserved love from critics. However, it’s a long shot.

Broadcast shows haven’t been very popular in recent years. Proof is “The Good Wife”, the last broadcast show nominated for Best Drama, way back in 2011 for its second season. Before that, there were ABC’s “Lost” and FOX’s “House”, both ended years ago. “The Good Wife” spin-off “The Good Fight” is far from getting nominated, but another breakout broadcast hit is gaining attention – “This Is Us”, the hit of the season. The past year also welcomed two Netflix contenders, the nostalgic 80s drama “Stranger Things” and the royal British drama “The Crown”.

“Downton Abbey” being voters’ favorite for years it’s helping “The Crown”, which is predicted to join the crowd. “Stranger Things” has a big audience and won the PGA and the SAG, giving it bigger chances at the Emmys. Considering the fact that Netflix has three shows in contention, don’t expect all three of them to get nominated.

However, it’s rare to see two freshman series nominated for Best Drama. Could this be the year that two, or perhaps three make it to the race? Here are some early predictions, which will change as we get closer to the end.

1. The Crown (Netflix)
2. The Americans (FX)
3. Better Call Saul (AMC)
4. House of Cards (Netflix)
5. Westworld (HBO)
6. This Is Us (NBC)
7. Homeland (Showtime)

Close contenders: Stranger Things (Netflix), Mr. Robot (USA)
Deserving: The Leftovers (HBO), Legion (FX), Rectify (Sundance TV), The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu)

OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES
Every nominated show from last year is back in contention, though there should be space freed for the newcomers. However, the battle for the gold will be between last year’s winner ”Veep” and “Atlanta”, which aired its first season. ABC’s “Black-ish” and Amazon’s “Transparent” are also there for another year. That leaves us with only two free spots. “Modern Family” it’s a longtime darling of Emmy voters, though it has been losing quality over the past few years. There are also Aziz Ansari’s ”Master of None” which returns this May for a second season, Netflix’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, FX’s critically acclaimed “Atlanta” and HBO’s “Silicon Valley”

1. Veep (HBO)
2. Atlanta (FX)
3. Black-ish (ABC)
4. Transparent (Amazon)
5. Master of None (Netflix)
6. Silicon Valley (HBO)
7. Modern Family (ABC)

Close contenders: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix), Insecure (HBO)
Deserving: Fleabag (BBC), The Good Place (NBC), Catastrophe (Channel 4)

OUTSTANDING LIMITED SERIES
Compared to the Drama and Comedy Series categories, this one seems easier to predict. Two of last year’s nominees are back in contention: ABC’s “American Crime” and FX’s ”Fargo”. Besides those two, joining the group are Ryan Murphy’s “Feud: Bette and Joan”, HBO’s summer hit “The Night Of” and yet another HBO hit – “Big Little Lies”.

Here, the battle is between FX and HBO. So far, “The Night Of” is leading the category for a win, with both “Feud” and “Big Little Lies” right behind it. “Fargo” and “American Crime” are far from winning the gold.

The “Gilmore Girls” revival is in the limited series category, but it’s a long shot to get nominated. “The Young Pope” is another HBO show, but they’d rather focus on “The Night Of”. “Twin Peaks” has yet to premiere.

1. The Night Of (HBO)
2. Feud: Bette and Joan (FX)
3. Big Little Lies (HBO)
4. Fargo (FX)
5. American Crime (ABC)

Close contenders: The Young Pope (HBO), American Horror Story: Roanoke (FX)

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Kevin Spacey is in contention, after being nominated 4 times in a row for his role of President Frank Underwood in “House of Cards”. There’s also Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”). Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”) finally got his deserving nomination and the first-time nominee Rami Malek won last year for his role in “Mr. Robot”. For two years in a row, there are Kyle Chandler for “Bloodline” and Liev Shreiber for “Bloodline”, which conveniently returns with a new season days before the deadline. Could this be the year one of them got axed?

From the newcomers, most notable are Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins (“Westworld”) and Sterling K. Brown (“This Is Us”). Billy Bob Thornton (“Goliath”) got some awards recognition, but considering the strong competition, it’s hard to say. New this year is Rupert Friend (“Homeland”) being in the Lead Actor category, instead of the supporting category, which can only hurt him. And there’s HBO with Justin Theroux (“The Leftovers”).

1. Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”)
2. Kevin Spacey (“House of Cards”)
3. Anthony Hopkins (“Westworld”)
4. Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”)
5. Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”)
6. Kyle Chandler (“Bloodline”)

Close contenders: Liev Shreiber (“Bloodline”), Justin Theroux (“The Leftovers”), Billy Bob Thornton (“Goliath”)
Deserving: Dan Stevens (“Legion”), Aden Young (“Rectify”), Sterling K. Brown (“This Is Us”)

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Last year’s most competitive category it’s still on fire. The last winner, Tatiana Maslany for her role(s) in “Orphan Black” is not eligible this year, because the show returns after the deadline. Keri Russell (“The Americans”) joined her husband (both on TV and in real life) at the Emmys, after being snubbed for four seasons and she’s predicted to return this year too. Robin Wright (“House of Cards) and Viola Davis (“How to get away with murder”) are still strong contenders. Wright might benefit from premiering the new season later than usual and the political situation (which can also affect it negatively) and Davis got her own Oscar back in February, creating buzz for the Emmys.

Claire Danes (“Homeland”) has been a steady nominee for every season of the show, but the category might get even more competitive with three new ladies: Claire Foy (“The Crown”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”). Foy won a Golden Globe and a SAG for her performance, Moss has five Emmy nominations for “Mad Men” and Wood got herself a Golden Globe and a Critic’s Choice Award. The new group of actresses may have to leave Taraji P. Henson (“Empire”) without a nomination this year.

1. Claire Foy (“The Crown”)
2. Keri Russell (“The Americans”)
3. Viola Davis (“How to get away with murder”)
4. Robin Wright (“House of Cards”)
5. Claire Danes (“Homeland”)
6. Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”)

Close contenders: Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Christine Baranski (“The Good Fight”), Taraji P. Henson (“Empire”)
Deserving: Carrie Coon (“The Leftovers”), Eva Green (“Penny Dreadful”)

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Last year, Game of Thrones had two nominees, who are now ineligible, giving chance to two new actors. Jonathan Banks (“Better Call Saul”), Michael Kelly (“House of Cards”) and the previous winner Ben Mendelsohn (“Bloodline”) are again in the race. Another nominee from last year is Jon Voight (“Ray Donovan”), who might not save his seat in the category.

The Game of Thrones seats could be replaced by another HBO show – “Westworld” with Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright. However, don’t forget John Lithgow (“The Crown”) for his portrayal of Winston Churchill, who’s going for the crown. Ian McShane (“American Gods”) and Ron Cephas Jones (“This Is Us”) are new in the mix, but there are already plenty of actors waiting to be acknowledged.

Bryan Cranston (“Sneaky Pete”), surprisingly, won’t be competing neither for Lead Actor, nor Supporting Actor.

1. John Lithgow (“The Crown”)
2. Jonathan Banks (“Better Call Saul”)
3. Ed Harris (“Westworld”)
4. Michael Kelly (“House of Cards”)
5. Ben Mendelsohn (“Bloodline”)
6. Jon Voight (“Ray Donovan”)

Close contenders: Jeffrey Wright (“Westworld”), Ron Cephas Jones (“This Is Us”)
Deserving: Christopher Eccleston (“The Leftovers”), Michael McKean (“Better Call Saul”), Christian Slater (Mr. Robot)

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Alison Janney (“Mom”) is now competing for Lead Actress and there is some fresh blood. Constance Zimmer (“Unreal”) was nominated last year, though the show lost some of the enthusiasm with its second season. There’s also Maura Tierney for “The Affair”. Not returning are also three actresses from Game of Thrones. Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the new black”) was snubbed last year, but she’s expected to return.

Fan favorites “Stranger Things” and “This Is Us” may fill half the category. Winona Ryder (“Stranger Things”) did a smart move to be in the supporting category, making it easier for her to get nominated. Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”) and Chrissy Metz (“This Is Us”) also have good chance to join and Thandie Newton (“Westworld”) is a sure lock.

“The Handmaid’s Tale”, “The Leftovers” and “House of Cards” also have actresses known to the voters, but they have slim chances of getting nominated: Samira Wiley, Amy Brenneman and Patricia Clarkson, respectively. Also, it should be noted that Vera Farmiga (“Bates Motel”) is moving to the supporting category this year.

Margo Martindale is competing twice for her roles in “Sneaky Pete” and “The Americans”, where she was a guest star in the previous seasons.

1. Thandie Newton (“Westworld”)
2. Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the new black”)
3. Winona Ryder (“Stranger Things”)
5. Maura Tierney (“The Affair”)
6. Margo Martindale (“The Americans”)

Close contenders: Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”), Chrissy Metz (“This Is Us”)
Deserving: Vera Farmiga (“Bates Motel”), Aubrey Plaza (“Legion”), Regina King (“The Leftovers”)

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
There shouldn’t be a lot of changes, but you never know. Last year’s winner Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent”) is a sure lock. Joining him are Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”), Aziz Ansari (“Master of None”) and William H. Macy (“Shameless”). Thomas Middleditch (“Silicon Valley”) also has good chances of returning. The biggest change could be Will Forte (“The Last Man on Earth”) if he gets snubbed.

From the newcomers, Donald Glover (“Atlanta”) is predicted to be the one to join the group, while Ted Danson’s (“The Good Place”) odds aren’t in his favor.

1. Aziz Ansari (“Master of None”)
2. Donald Glover (“Atlanta”)
3. Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent”)
4. Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”)
6. Thomas Middleditch (“Silicon Valley”)

Close contenders: Will Forte (“The Last Man on Earth”), Ted Danson (“The Good Place”)
Deserving: Gael Garcia Bernal (“Mozart in the Jungle”), Neil Patrick Harris (“A Series of Unfortunate Events”), Zach Galifianakis (“Baskets”)

OUSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
The only threat to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ five-year streak of winning for her role in “Veep” is Alison Janney (“Mom”), who after two wins in the supporting category, is moving to Lead Actress.

Also with good chances of getting (another) nomination are Lily Tomlin (“Grace and Frankie”), Tracee Ellis Ross (“Black-ish”) and Ellie Kemper (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”). Out of the game are Amy Schumer (“Inside Amy Schumer”) and Laurie Metcalf (“Getting On”).

Two of CW’s leading ladies, Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”) and Rachel Bloom (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) are about to get snubbed again. On the cable side, HBO has two potential nominees: Issa Rae for her role in “Insecure” and Sarah Jessica-Parker in “Divorce”.

1. Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”)
2. Alison Janney (“Mom”)
3. Tracee Ellis Ross (“Black-ish”)
4. Lily Tomlin (“Grace and Frankie”)
5. Ellie Kemper (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”)
6. Issa Rae (“Insecure”)

Close contenders: Sarah Jessica Parker (“Divorce”), Jane Fonda (“Grace and Frankie”)
Deserving: Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Constance Wu (“Fresh off the boat”), Pamela Adlon (“Better Things”)

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Louie Anderson (“Baskets”) made a surprising debut win last year, but Alec Baldwin (“Saturday Night Live”) is joining and going to the top thanks to his portrayal of Donald Trump and last year’s win for Kate McKinnon. Tony Hale (“Veep”) and Tituss Burgess (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) are certain to be nominated again.
Broadcast actors Ty Burrell (“Modern Family”) and Andre Braugher (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) are trying to save their spots in the category. “Veep” got two nominations last year with Matt Walsh and might try again, but with Timothy Simons.

Deserving:

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Four of last year’s six nominated are still eligible, including winner Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live”). Allison Janney (“Mom”) moved category and Niecy Nash (“Getting On”) it’s not eligible.

Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”), Judith Light (“Transparent”) and Gaby Hoffman (“Transparent”) are expected to return.
From the newcomers, Rita Moreno (“One Day At a Time”) is standing out. It’s still early to talk about “Dear White People”. Andrea Martin (“Great News”) is a long shot. About returning actresses, it’s unlikely for Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”) and Mayim Bialik (“The Big Bang Theory”) to return.

1. Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live”)
2. Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”)
3. Rita Moreno (“One Day at a Time”)
4. Judith Light (“Transparent”)
6. Jane Krakowski (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”)

Close contenders: Amy Landecker (“Transparent”)
Deserving: Kathryn Hahn (“Transparent”), June Squibb (“Shameless”)

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE
After the triumph of “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson”, there’s space for new faces. Only one of last year’s nominees is eligible again – Benedict Cumberbatch (“Sherlock”).

HBO is on top with “The Night Of” leading men: Riz Ahmed and John Turturro. There are also Robert De Niro (“The Wizard of Lies”) and Jude Law (“The Young Pope”). FX is betting on Fargo’s Ewan McGregor, while ABC has Timothy Hutton (“American Crime”). Geoffrey Rush (“Genius”) is a wild card. Another contender is Idris Elba for his role in (“Guerrilla”).

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE
Another year of great actresses compete for the gold. If Bette Davis and Joan Crawford fought for the Oscar, Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange are going for the Emmy for their roles in “Feud: Bette and Joan”. Another two big names are Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, both for “Big Little Lies”. Their co-star Shailene Woodley is in the supporting category. Putting two leading ladies together could split the voters and badly hurt both shows. Don’t be surprised if Sarandon gets snubbed.

Don’t count out Oscar nominated actress Oprah Winfrey (“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”). Felicity Huffman (“American Crime”) has the voters’ love and Carrie Coon (“Fargo”) finally has a chance for a nod. And we have to see if Viola Davis (“Custody”) can make it twice, both for drama and limited series.

1. Jessica Lange (“Feud: Bette and Joan”)
2. Susan Sarandon (“Feud: Bette and Joan”)
3. Nicole Kidman (“Big Little Lies”)
5. Felicity Huffman (“American Crime”)
6. Oprah Winfrey (“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”)

Close contenders: Carrie Coon (“Fargo”), Viola Davis (“Custody”)
Deserving: Bryce Dallas Howard (“Black Mirror”),

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE
None of last year’s nominees is eligible for a nomination, so we get to see new faces. “Feud: Bette and Joan” stars Stanley Tucci and Alfred Molina. Expected to join them are Hank Azaria (“The Wizard of Lies”), Reg E. Cathey (“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”) and Martin Freeman (“Sherlock”).

“American Crime” has a stellar cast, but Benito Martinez has the best chances of getting nominated. “Fargo” is going with David Thewlis and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Close contenders: Benito Martinez (“American Crime”), Michael Stuhlbarg (“Fargo”), Idris Elba (“Guerrilla”)

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A LIMITED SERIES OR MOVIE
Regina King (“American Crime”) who won twice in a row in the supporting category is still in the game. However, she’s facing a tough competition from Big Little Lies’ Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley, as also as Feud’s Judy Davis and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Heating up the competition there are also Sarah Paulson and Kathy Bates for “American Horror Story: Roanoke”. Lili Taylor (“American Crime”) seems like a long shot between all these ladies.

1. Laura Dern (“Big Little Lies”)
2. Judy Davis (“Feud: Bette and Joan”)
3. Shailene Woodley (“Big Little Lies”)
4. Sarah Paulson (“American Horror Story: Roanoke”)
5. Regina King (“American Crime”)
6. Michelle Pfeiffer (“The Wizard of Lies”)

Close contenders: Kathy Bates (“American Horror Story: Roanoke”) , Ellen Burstyn (“Custody”) , Catherine Zeta-Jones (“Feud: Bette and Joan”)
Deserving: Jackie Hoffman (“Feud: Bette and Joan”), Renee Elise Goldsberry (“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”), Jeanine Berlin (“The Night Of”)

Launch Video / Developer Interview: https://youtu.be/6UOni7pBKJI Join the revolution and take down E Corp through the immersive, story-driven, extended narrative of Mr. Robot:1.51exfiltratiOn – Now Available on iOS and Android

SAN RAFAEL and LOS ANGELES, Calif. – August 17, 2016 – Leading and award-winning developer and publisher of digital entertainment Telltale Games, in association with NBCUniversal Brand Development, today released Mr. Robot:1.51exfiltratiOn for iOS and Android-based mobile devices. The game was developed by the acclaimed independent team at Night School Studio in collaboration with the creative team behind Universal Cable Productions (UCP) and USA Network’s Emmy®-nominated series MR. ROBOT.

Mr. Robot:1.51exfiltratiOn extends the narrative experience of the award-winning TV series, allowing players to become personally intertwined with the characters of the underground hacker group, fsociety. Players will be using the mysterious new E Corp Messaging App over the course of a week, playing in real time, and carefully communicating with its members as they race to recover data that is critical to their goals of hacking the multinational company Evil Corp.

“We’re some of the biggest fans in the world of what Sam Esmail and the teams at Universal Cable Productions and USA have created with this series,” said Sean Krankel, co-founder of Night School Studio. “Working hand in hand with Sam, series writer Kor Adana and UCP, we’ve created an opportunity for players to meaningfully interact with characters like Elliot (Rami Malek), Darlene (Carly Chaikin) and Cisco (Michael Drayer), truly feeling like they’re joining the hack at a critical moment in the TV series. As fans, it’s nothing short of a dream come true for us.”

20:20 - Participant Media's Pivot TV Network - Going Off The Air

Thanks to johnhelvete for the heads up.

There's about to be another vacancy on the dial.

Pivot, the three-year-old TV network from Participant Media, is shutting down. The network, which tried to court a millennial audience with shows from the likes of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Meghan McCain, has only been on the air since 2013.

Participant's decision to pull the plug on the show comes after the media company tapped a new CEO (David Linde) in late 2015. The network was initially quite ambitious with original programming, under president Evan Shapiro, but the 2014 executive shuffle that saw Kent Rees named general manager was followed by an increased reliance on acquisitions.

The channel will go dark sometime before the end of 2016.

Pivot initially took over the cable real estate occupied by the Documentary Channel and Halogen TV. The decision to shutter without a buyer in place is not uncommon in the increasingly dire cable landscape. The top of 2016 saw upstart Al Jazeera America, which took the place of Pivot's millennial-focused predecessor CurrentTV, go dark without anything lined up to replace it.

Cable may not have worked for Participant, but the company has thrived in other television arenas with original series. Its film slate also includes the upcoming Mark Wahlberg feature Deep Water Horizon.

03:45 - Pokemon - Live-Action Movie in Negotiations to be Written by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch

Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch are in negotiations to write the live-action “Pokemon” pic for Legendary based on the upcoming game “Detective Pikachu.”

The news comes following the announcement that the company landed the rights to the “Pokemon” franchise after they were shopped around in early July. That deal came two weeks after the Pokemon Go app was released and became a worldwide phenomenon, so much so that it led to a 25% jump in the stock of part-owner Nintendo. The augmented reality game allows players to capture, battle and train the Pokemon virtual creatures.

The hugely popular Pokemon Go app recently saw the pocket monsters surge back into the pop culture consciousnesses. Pokemon was introduced in Japan in 1996 and has sold 279 million video games worldwide with 21.5 billion cards shipped to 74 countries, and an animated series spanning 19 seasons.

Universal Pictures will handle distribution of the live-action film outside of Japan as it has done with Legendary’s other films for years.

Perlman cut her teeth in Marvel’s writers’ room, penning such comic-book hits such as “Thor” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Marvel has now tasked her with penning the “Captain Marvel” film with “Inside Out” scribe Meg LeFauve, as well as helping to develop the third “Sherlock Holmes” movie with Team Downey.

19:20 - MOVIES: The Little Mermaid - Disney’s Live Action Adaptation adds Lin-Manuel Miranda & Alan Menken to Write Music

EXCLUSIVE: Disney is pairing Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda with iconic songwriter Alan Menken for a live action feature adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid. Miranda and Menken will write the music together. Marc Platt will produce the film along with Miranda, in a configuration just set by Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production. Deadline revealed in May that Disney was figuring out a way to add the classic title to a slate of films based on the studio’s animated films. This one is being orchestrated as a mix of pre-existing songs from the 1989 Disney animated classic movie, for which Menken won two Oscars, sharing Best Song with Howard Ashman, and winning Best Score on his own. Menken has eight Oscars in his storied career.

While Miranda has become all the rage since his record breaking Broadway show Hamilton became the hottest ticket and won 11 Tony Awards, he has a soft spot for The Little Mermaid, even naming his newborn son Sebastian, after the crab in the musical. They are still working out a lot of details, including the level of Miranda’s involvement. At this point, he isn’t writing the script, but he will supervise the story and the studio will hire a writer shortly. This extends Miranda’s relationship with Disney, where he is starring with Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Ben Whishaw in a live action adaptation of Mary Poppins to be directed by Rob Marshall. That film is being produced by Platt, who is also readying the long awaited adaptation of the hit musical Wicked at Universal. Miranda also worked on the upcoming Disney animated feature Moana, which bows November 23.

22:00 - MOVIES: Bad Boys 3 - Now Titled Bad Boys For Life, Expected to Release January 2018

Detectives Burnett and Lowery’s new case has an official name.

Sony has titled Bad Boys 3 as Bad Boys For Life, EW confirmed. The name change comes with the project moving closer to reality with a Jan. 12, 2018 release in mind, a source tells EW.

The new title is a fitting throwback to 2003’s Bad Boys II where star Will Smith tells his cop partner Martin Lawrence, “We ride together, we die together. Bad boys for life.” (See the clip, below.) The two will reprise the roles they debuted in 1995’s Bad Boys — Michael Bay directed that movie and the sequel. The Grey’s Joe Carnahan is in the director’s chair for Bad Boys For Life, not Bay.

Bad Boys For Life has had three different release dates in the last year, originally set for Feb. 17, 2017 before shifting to June 2, 2017. Now, it’s back to a winter window.

03:45 - Mr. Robot - Rumor - Something In Development With Telltale Games

While I’ve yet to catch up with Season 2 yet, Mr. Robot is a great show, and if you’ve not jumped in yet, there is a reason it’s being talked about everywhere.

Something strange is happening regarding the series though. Telltale Games have started to share this teaser across Twitter and Facebook. It’s for an app set in the show’s universe revolving around fictional company ECorp, that will be available August 17th.

On August 17th, @ecorpmessaging will make your life better on iOS & Android. Together, we can connect the world... pic.twitter.com/KDmUxYyU2y
— ecorpmessaging (@ecorpmessaging) August 9, 2016

Now, the question is, why are Telltale sharing all this? One possible explination is that they are the creators of the app (although that would be a pretty new direction for the developer). The other posibillity is that we could be getting a Telltale Mr. Robot game and this is Telltale’s first steps with the show. The latter option is quite exciting.

The sequel to zombie apocalypse thriller World War Z may yet come back to life.

The project recently lost director J.A. Bayona and for all intents and purposes looked like it was going to die on the vine.

But producer Brad Pitt is looking to his Seven and Fight Club director David Fincher to potentially come in and rescue it.

Pitt, Paramount and Skydance have had meetings with Fincher to direct the sequel, according to several sources.

It is unclear if a deal with take but Fincher is surprisingly open to the idea. The picky auteur tends to eschew the tentpole and sequel game, preferring to focus on original material or adaptation of elevated material, mostly of the gritty and grounded variety.

But Fincher also has plenty of room on his schedule. The filmmaker has been spending time in TV land (he was a key player in House of Cards) but he had two HBO series fall apart: Living on Video, about the early 1980s music video scene, and Utopia, which was to have starred Rooney Mara.

Christina Vidal has booked a series regular role opposite Bill Paxton and Justin Cornwell on the upcoming CBS drama Training Day. Based on the 2001 feature film from Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures, Training Day is a crime thriller that begins 15 years after the events of the movie. It centers on an idealistic young police officer (Cornwell) who is appointed to an elite squad of the LAPD where he is partnered with a seasoned, morally ambiguous detective (Paxton).

Vidal will play Detective III Valeria Chavez, the best investigator in Robbery Homicide Division, which puts her in the running for the best investigator in the world. Minus the LAPD raid jacket and handcuffs, you might take her for a soccer mom, but you’d do so at your extreme peril. Vidal most recently had recurring arcs on CBS series Code Black and Limitless. She’s repped by BRS/Gage Talent Agency, Meyer/Downs and McKeon/Myones Entertainment.

EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Adamson in negotiations to direct and co-write Curious George, a live-action adaptation for Universal Pictures based on the children’s book series written by Margret & H.A. Rey. Adamson, who showed a flair for family fare in directing, producing and scripting the first two installments of The Chronicles of Narnia series, will executive produce.
04:30 - MOVIES: Friday the 13th - Breck Eisner In Talks To Direct Reboot

Breck Eisner is in talks to direct the feature reboot of the beloved horror franchise Friday the 13th which is being brought back to life at Paramount Pictures, a studio that has had some great success re-imagining franchises such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As with Turtles, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes will be producing the project. The film is expected to be released sometime next year.

What’s interesting about this is that Eisner’s father Michael ran Paramount during the days when the Friday the 13th rights were acquired. Since then, it has become probably one of the most well-known horror franchises in film history and very lucrative. The rights were originally acquired for producer Frank Mancuso, Jr. who also launched a television series back in the 1980s.

Over the past 36 years, the Friday the 13th IP would go on to spawn a number of films and television programs. Writer/director David Bruckner had been previously attached to helm the film at Paramount. The last writer was Nick Antosca (Hannibal [writer on the TV series], Channel Zero). That incarnation, however, fell apart after Adam Goodman exited his executive post at the studio.

Eisner’s other credits include The Crazies, Sahara and The Last Witch Hunter. The new Friday the 13th project is being produced by Platinum Dunes’ Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form.
