Latest from Ausiello - Various Shows

Question: Any news on a possible Chuck renewal? A petition for a third season has already started. --Dianne
Ausiello:
Petitions are nice. Viewers are nicer. With that in mind, here's a recap of all the mind-blowing stuff coming up this spring on TV's funniest comedy:

• Multiple weddings
• A shocking death
• Morgan departs the Buy More
• Chuck and his father are reunited
• Chuck and Sarah are going further than they ever have before
• Chevy Chase
• The return of Jeffster
• The return of Bryce
• The return of the Awesomes
• A game-changing twist that will (hopefully) launch the show into season 3.

Question: NCIS... anything good going to happen? --Beth
Ausiello:
Did you miss this week's EW, or are you just that greedy? As I report in my print column, the NCIS spin-off-launching episodes will fill in a blank that's long been missing re. Gibbs. "There's a resolution to him," says ex producer Shane Brennan, "in a story that has spanned the entire series, from the very first episode all the way through. It really is a piece of information the audience is well aware of -- part of his back story -- and in the spin-off [episodes], he lays that to rest." Any clue what it could be? Head to the comments and get a mass debate (tee-hee) going!

Question: It seems like you have something against giving out How I Met Your Mother scoops, but I'll take my chances, anyway. Any scoop you can reveal? --Andrea
Ausiello:
I have nothing against giving out HIMYM scoop, Andrea, it's actually you I have something against. Nonetheless, I will tell you that Alyson Hannigan finally left for maternity leave last week. And not a moment too soon. "She is not a big person to begin with, [so she is literally] now half baby," laughs EP Carter Bays. "Even if we had the option to keep her around, it would be comically difficult to hide that growing child inside her." Luckily, despite her maternity leave, she won't be left out of the show for too long. "We have a funny way to cross her out for a few episodes," teases Bays, "and we shot some of her scenes in advance."

Question: Got anything on How I Met Your Mother? --Luke
Ausiello:
How ironic would it be if, after spending the entire season hiding Alyson Hannigan's pregnancy, HIMYM producers ended the season by making Lily pregnant! Pretty ironic, right? Well, guess what -- it just might happen! "It's a distinct possibility," says EP Carter Bays. "On the one hand, there are a lot of funny baby stories just waiting to be told. But on the other hand, that could mean the end of all the stories we could tell at the bar. You kind of have to reach the point where it's like, "Alright, there are no more stories to tell in the bar, so it's time to start telling baby stories." So, I guess the question is, Is HIMYM at that point yet? Sounds like more mass debate (tee-hee) fodder for the comments section.

Question: Okay, after watching Laura Prepon's annoying Karen nearly ruin an otherwise outstanding episode of HIMYM last Monday, I'm left wondering how long we have to put up with her. --Steve
Ausiello:
Maybe we were watching different shows, because I thought Laura's Karen was a riot. But you'll be pleased to hear that her arc will come to an end after just one more episode. (Some ignoramus originally reported that she was booked for five episodes, which couldn't have been farther from the truth. Nothing pisses me off more than sloppy journalism.)

Question: Got any good gossip on Law & Order: SVU? --Laura
Ausiello:
The best: Mariska Hargitay is expected to make a complete recovery and will (hopefully) be back to work at the end of the month. The news isn't so rosy for one of her co-stars, however. Exec producer Neal Baer tells me that "someone bites the dust" this May.

Question: How about some Bones scoop? --Amy
Ausiello:
The March 26 episode is a big one for Tamara Taylor's Cam, who discovers that her ex-boyfriend has been murdered. "This was the love of her life," explains exec producer Hart Hanson. "She lived with him for two years and raised his daughter. She now has to go back and tell the now-16-year-old daughter -- who doesn't remember her -- that her father is dead. It's a very emotional episode for us. And Tamara is brilliant in it."

Question: Got any scoop on my new favorite show, The Mentalist? --Katie
Ausiello:
The season finale will revisit the mystery surrounding who killed Patrick's wife and child. Furthermore, executive producer Chris Long teases that "something happens at the end of [the episode] that will change the way you look at Patrick." As long as you don't change the way he looks, we're good!

Question: Got any 24 scoop? Please tell me there's some Jack and Renee romance on the horizon! --Emily
Ausiello: Hey, Renee's still romantically attached to Larry, although probably not for much longer. I'm told a shocking turn of events will further test their already strained relationship.

Question: For the sake of my eyes, please tell me that Ryan and Rebecca on Brothers & Sisters will not shack up. --Jennifer
Ausiello:
Sorry, but they're shacking up (as in moving in together; not sure if it'll turn romantic.) Speaking of Ryan, I hear the little bastard is hiding something.

Question: April 7 is a long way away. Gimme some good Fringe scoop to ease the pain. Please? --Kelli
Ausiello:
"Peter's shady past will catch up with him," reveals exec producer Jeff Pinkner. "Specifically the work he was doing in Iraq at the start of the series. Those criminal doings will have direct consequences to his work on the Fringe team." Got anything else, Mr. Pinkner? "Olivia will learn more about the experiments done to her as a child with the drug Cortexiphan. She'll also meet a man who underwent the same experiments as a child -- but [he] can't control the dangerous results." Got anything else, Mr. Pinkner? [Crickets] Guess not.

Question: Got any Gossip Girl/Jenny Humphrey scoops? --Giovanni
Ausiello:
According to exec producer Stephanie Savage, Dan's kid sis "has a big Blair, Mean Girls story for the end of the season that also ties in with the Rufus/Lily story. And you will see that a new course has been charted for Jenny Humphrey in the fall."

Question: Do we know anything about Gossip Girl's prom episode? --Charisma
Ausiello:
Only that No Doubt will be performing, just not in this decade and not as No Doubt. "No Doubt is going to be playing in our '80s flashback/[spin-off] episode," reveals Stephanie Savage. "They're playing an up-and-coming '80s band."

Question: Will we ever meet Harry's real son on 90210? --Christopher
Ausiello:
Not this season. And probably not next, either. Newly crowned show-runner Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair says "there was an overabundance of adoption-centric stories when I came to the show. And I didn't feel like we could tell the story of the real son on the heels of the imposter son, because the issues that they would be going through would be too similar. So I don't think there's a place for that this year, but that's definitely something that's out there." Speaking of 90210, I hear the first new episode back is nuts. And I mean that in a good way.
