Weren't we?

The Emmy nominated The Good Wife has been off the air for over five years and while in some ways that is hard to imagine, in others, Executive Producers Robert and Michelle King haven't yet skipped a beat and whose work only seems to get better with age.

They continue to be one of the most topically relevant producers working in the TV industry today with spin-off The Good Fight still going strong into season five and with breakout horror drama Evil catching the attention of viewers whom have never laid eyes on the Kings before.

But so much of their success comes from what they were willing to experiment with on The Good Wife. It's not really until the Kings and Co. started hitting close to the halfway point that the show was really beginning to experiment with episode format, tone, filming technique, and genre and when the show began to become more and more serialized, despite also having episodic aspects built in.

Death of the Client is one of my favorite episodes, because it's an episode that really tries to do a lot of these things and is ultimately successful.

The episode starts off with an extended scene from where the last episode left off. Alicia and Peter were invited to party where a Catholic Cardinal could essentially make or break Peter's ongoing political career, as he needs Catholic voters. Peter finds himself up against political opponent Mike Krestiva, the super liar whose extremely determined to make Peter look bad, --a character that ultimately comes to represent the worst attributes that many will come to associate with Trump-era politics.

Diane Lockhart and Will Gardner are also at this event. This is after Alicia and Will had decided to call their romantic affair quits, as Alicia had decided to try again with Peter, and Diane chastened Will for his behavior. Will and Laura Hellinger are also on the verge of becoming an item, as they have faced each other a lot in court recently...

Soon enough there is call informing Will, Diane, and Alicia that one of their bigger clients, Matthew Ashbaugh had been murdered. Alicia then rushes to the police station for questioning.

When Alicia gets there she is also informed that who ever had murdered Matthew Ashbaugh had GPS tracking set up in their car and was headed for Alicia's apartment!

Oh, and of course, it also happens to be St. Patrick's day! So when Alicia calls to find her mother at the apartment with the kids and asks her to take them to her hotel room, the outside world of Chicago looks like drunken mayhem (of course it doesn't help that Veronica has been drinking already) and she and the kids end up hanging out in bar where Veronica ends up blurting out some information that makes the kids incredibly uncomfortable and for Grace, potentially life-changing.

Back at the precinct Laura Hellinger turns up working the prosecutor's case. The cops try hard to get Alicia to spill any information she can on Matthews many many enemies. The episode then begins to play out in series of flashbacks, ones that are intertwined with both scenes of Ashbaugh (and really his affections for Alicia) and that of Alicia's and Will's steamy love affair.

At one point though, Alicia overhears the cops talking about an Eddy Lowmax. This gives Kalanda a bit more to go on, although she figures out pretty quickly that the cops are lying about the threat placed on Alicia and her family, when the car the alleged suspect was driving didn't have a GPS tracking in that make and year!! The episode then starts to touch on an ongoing theme of police corruption (something that is more heavily looked at in The Good Fight). Will too eventually goes to the station to protect Alicia, where she quietly laments with him on their past, while also where Laura Hellinger wants to ask Alicia, if she should ask Will out, making everything kind of salty, although Laura feels like child not privy to a more adult conversation and ultimately a third wheel, despite that Alicia supports her choice and Will and Laura go on to date...

But what I love most about the episode, besides of course having John Noble guest star as the infectious and lively Asbaugh, is how the episode is actually filmed.

I'm also a pretty big fan of Alfred Hitchcock features and much of that has to do with a combination of the way he creates suspense in his thrillers, his particular aesthetics, and the way he frames some of his characters.

In season four of The Good Wife, I started to notice the way cinematography started framing some it's characters too, most particularly Alicia. It is quite similar, if not identical to many of Hitchcock's films such as The Birds or Vertigo. But Death of a Client is an episode where this is the most obvious. And because of the murder mystery crime story aspect, and because Julianna Margulies has an air about her that is reminiscent to golden age of Hollywood divas, along with the drunken funny-scary atmospheric combo of St. Patties Day and Police Station as a set piece, much of the episode feels like one big tribute to Hitchcock.

It also doesn't hurt that John Noble was the one shot guest star, once again playing a fanatical 'mad man' and using the character's obsession with Johann Sebastian Bach as a quirky musical transition to most of the flashback sequences, allowing the episode to blend the contemporary with the past through the portable music-player that Matthew passes onto Alicia. Noble and the music player also servers as a kind of 'mindless levity' that is part of what keeps the episode from completely sinking into a full suspense thriller and adds it's own kind of metaphor for where Alicia's mind also once was when she was with Will, as she struggles to remember certain details about Matthew and his cases/complaints. In terms of The Good Wife's own story, this is also an episode that marks a transition to Alicia's decent, as she is reminded of her feelings for Will and just how much that actually scares her.

In terms of Kings' work, this is one of the first episodes that has some serious surrealism to it, existing somewhere between an atmospheric suspense-almost-horror-thriller and satire. In some ways one can almost see the construct of Evil's first season too, given that part of the episode deals with Peter, Mike Krestiva, a member of the Catholic Church, a forbidden romance, and where Alicia is remembering that she committed adultery and is focusing on that sexual attraction. How many men are perhaps "tempted" by her. Or how she loves someone else, but is too scared to do anything about it, --in the right way (and right now all Evil fans are wondering about Kristen's soul, given we don't know if she did what we think she did). But even The Good Fight takes a lot of ques or subtext from The Good Wife, as the first four seasons are really about a moral decay or descent that Reddick, Bosman, and Lockhart fall into...

The episode ends with Alicia coming back to the party, where the Veronica and kids were told by Alicia to meet her. Alicia talks with the Cardinal briefly, before Eli informs her of what "happened" to Mike Krestiva (Peter punches him in the bathroom and makes it look like Mike has a drinking problem. Something Kristeva totally deserves). Alicia then finds Peter near the bar. And like always, Peter doesn't really ask much about what was going on with their client, but instead the two dance as if nothing is wrong, as if Alicia wasn't awakened to her deeper feelings again.

Death of A Client was directed by Robert King and written by both Robert & Michelle King.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29964715.post-38607144946027593402021-03-26T11:00:00.007+00:002021-03-26T11:00:04.730+00:00USD POLL : Which recurring The Good Wife character would you most like to see on The Good Fight?

Throwback Thursday is a weekly article in which we look back at our favorite TV episodes from the past. "The Good Wife" in on my top 5 favorite shows of all time. I loved the writing, the directing and the cast, which always brought their A-game in every episode. But season 5 of the show hit differently, in a way that was both unexpected and painful! Looking at you Will! We love you!

"Hitting The Fan" is the fifth episode of season five and it is the culmination of the events that ended season four. Cary proposes to Alicia to leave Lockhart/Gardner and start their own firm. Alicia is skeptical in the beginning, but then she decides to do it and they slowly start building their client network. Diane is the first one to find out, in the middle of her negotiations for her exit from the firm to become a judge. She is the one telling Will and she is the one, along with Will, that tries to get the situation under control. It is 43 minutes of pure gold, with incredible pathos and very sharp humor. It is definitely the episode that changed the course of the season (and the series, in my opinion), and it shaped what the show would look like if Alicia and Will weren't together all the time. Yes, I do think the Kings were trying to tell us something, to prepare us for what was about to happen to Will.

It was the episode everyone was waiting for, and it did not disappoint; it's not just a great episode that tackles office relationships and politics, but because you end up rooting for everyone. Sure, you might end up on #TeamLockhartGardner or #TeamFlorrickAgos, but you do not feel bad for any of those characters, because you undestand every point of view and it is clear to the audience why they are doing what they are doing. It was a move the show had been building up for years; it started off with Alica being given the opportunity to get back to work, it went on with her getting really good at what she does and then it got to a point where she had to prove to herself and to others of her worth, so the necessary step to take was to fly solo.

It's an episode filled with memorable little moments, and by little I don't mean unimportant; from Will devastating Alicia's table, to Peter finally taking down Will without reprecussions, emotions run wild and the characters are not afraid to show strenght and resilience. I bet that, when the Kings were writing it and when they were shooting it, they had a sense of freedom in mind that they had never put on the show. There is always something in life that makes you realize something you had never realized before and that is what happened on the show. The pace changed, the dialogues were more fluid and it all culminated in a not-so-sublte shocking moment that had everyone stunned. The build-up was amazing, I remember watching the episodes of season 5 thinking that they had made an incredible job, putting its quality on par with the first two seasons of the show (season 2 being my favorite among all of them!). This episode is relevant because it truly changed everything. We had to think about the show in a different way, under a different light and for a show to do that, during its fifth season, it's truly remarkable.

I really miss "The Good Wife". The level of writing on the show was one of the best and it still remains of the best. I envy those who have never seen it and they get to experience it for the first time and be blown away by the intensity of the show, especially of season five. So, if you are starting it or you have already, enjoy the ride, because it'll be worth it.

The Good Fight is adding to its core cast.

Justin Bartha has joined the forthcoming Good Wife spinoff as a series regular, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Bartha will play Colin, a rising star in the State's Attorney's office and Chicago's most eligible bachelor. Romantic sparks begin to fly when he finds himself going up against Lucca (Cush Jumbo) in the courtroom.

"Whenever you're looking for a romantic lead, you look for someone who can play the comedy and the sexuality, but even more importantly is the intelligence. And that's what we love about Justin: he can play all three: the comedy and the sexuality, but he's also convincing as a tough intellectual foe to Cush Jumbo in court," the Kings said in a statement. "We couldn't be happier.”

“The Good Place” and “Parks and Recreation” creator is developing “Landlords” at NBC, a comedy following a young couple who become landlords and begin to navigate the strange and scary world of adulthood, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series hails from “Parks and Rec” vet Matt Murray, who is writing the pilot. He’ll also serve as executive producer with Schur and David Miner of 3 Arts Entertainment. The trio worked on “Parks,” “The Good Place” and Schur’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” together.

The project landed at The Peacock with a put pilot commitment. Both Schur and Murray are under overall deals at Universal TV.

“Landlords” marks Schur’s first project put into development at NBC for the 2017-2018 television season. He’s one of the network’s most trusted creators with “Parks and Rec’s” immense success and now “The Good Place,” starring Ted Danson and Kristen Bell.

Sitcom best friend no more. Former My Boys co-star Kellee Stewart is set to topline her own comedy series, teaming with former My Boys co-executive producer Sebastian Jones for BBF (Black Best Friend) a single-camera comedy based on her life. It is executive produced by Cedric the Entertainer, on whose TV Land comedy series The Soul Man Stewart recurred, playing his sister-in-law.
For over a decade, actress Kellee Stewart has built a career by playing the black best friend on TV sitcoms. It follows a black woman, caught between two cultures, who steps out of the shadows of her friends in search of her authentic self.

06:10 - The Good Wife Spinoff - Paul Guilfoyle & Bernadette Peters to Recur

The upcoming The Good Wife followup series has cast CSI veteran Paul Guilfoyle and Tony-winning actress Bernadette Peters as recurring. Additionally, the series’ executive producer Brooke Kennedy has been tapped to direct the opening episode.

Kennedy is a long-time collaborator of The Good Wife creators/executive producers Robert and Michelle King and served as an executive producer/director on both of their series for CBS, The Good Wife and the recent BrainDead. The Kings then recruited her as an executive producer on The Good Wife spinoff for CBS All Access, CBS’ VOD and live streaming service. This is the fourth series on which veteran TV producer Kennedy will direct — she made her debut behind the camera on Third Watch — and her first time directing the key pilot/premiere episode that sets the look and tone of a series. Despite the current push in the industry to open up the directing field to female directors, drama pilots have remained dominated by male directors, so Kennedy’s assignment helps put a crack in that glass ceiling.

Guilfoyle will play Henry, Maia’s (Leslie) father, a wildly successful financial advisor who is phenomenally wealthy and universally loved. Peters will play Lenore, Maia’s (Rose Leslie) mother, Lenore, who came from a tough working-class background and is a natively brilliant financial whiz. Lenore expanded Henry’s fortune through their family’s private investment firm that is the envy of the financial world. Henry, Lenore and Maia are the unofficial First Family of Chicago.

19:40 - The Zipcoders - 1960's Family Music Comedy in Development at ABC from Viola Davis

Viola Davis and Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions has sold a second project to ABC, single-camera comedy The Zipcoders.

Written by Marshall Todd (Barbershop), The Zipcoders is about a divorced mother of three who moves her family to the East Side of Austin, Texas, soon after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., in an effort to be closer to her estranged sister. Once there, her teenage son forms a rock ‘n’ roll band, to the utter bewilderment of friends, family and the community at large.

Davis and Tennon executive produce through JuVee. Todd co-executive produces. ABC Studios, where JuVee inked an overall deal in April, is the studio.

“The Zipcoders is near and dear to my heart,” Tennon said. “Viola and I love what Marshall Todd put on the page — the world, the characters and a fun-loving take on music, relationships, dreams and family. Over our conference room door is etched ‘Dream Big, Dream Fierce’ and this show really underlines that ethos.”

The Zipcoders stems from an original idea developed at JuVee about a group of teenage friends growing up in East Austin who aspire to be a rock band like the Beatles. With the image of a group of African-American teenagers with feathered hair and bell bottoms in the middle of the Deep South, the company met with potential writers. The producers went with Todd who, after doing some research on late-’60s America, found immediate parallels to the issues the country is dealing with today — politically, racially and musically.

“This project gives me the opportunity to tell a story that, while specific to the African-American experience, doesn’t travel in the usual tropes,” Todd said. “As a parent I was inspired to tell a story from the dual perspective of parents and children in a world where the rules are constantly changing. Music has always been a passion of mine, and to be able to use it to inform this particular narrative was a provocative challenge.”

02:45 - MOVIES: God Particle - Announced as the Next Film in J.J. Abrams' Cloverfield Series

The mysterious upcoming J.J. Abrams film ”God Particle” will be the latest movie connected to the producer’s cult hit “Cloverfield,” an insider familiar with the project told TheWrap.

Not only will “Particle” be the third in a series of connected “Cloverfield” films, but Abrams and studio partner Paramount Pictures are quietly developing more movies for the shared universe, the individual said. Both parties hope to release a new film in the shared “Cloverfield” each year, the insider added.

Paramount declined to comment on the matter. Abrams’ company Bad Robot did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Fans of “Cloverfield” and its cinematic cousin “10 Cloverfield Lane,” which starred John Goodman and was released in March, speculated the “God Particle” was indeed connected to the same universe when the project was announced in February.

“Particle” is about a team of astronauts who make a “shocking discovery” and end up fighting for survival in what is described as an altered reality. Julis Onah (“The Girl Is in Trouble”) directed from a script by Oren Uziel. It stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl and Chris O’Dowd.

The film is set to open wide on Feb. 24, 2017 — though footage from the project is expected to be presented to reporters on Thursday in New York. Studio head Brad Grey will personally present highlights from the upcoming slate at the event, and do a similar event on Nov. 2 in Los Angeles on the Paramount lot. The insider was present at an event leading up to those presentations.

STARZ ADDS MICHAEL NYQVIST, NAZANIN BONIADI, NICHOLAS PINNOCK AND SARA SERRAIOCCO TO SPY THRILLER "COUNTERPART"

Beverly Hills, Calif. -October 26, 2016 - Starz announced today that Michael Nyqvist (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, John Wick, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), Nazanin Boniadi ("Homeland," Ben-Hur, Hotel Mumbai), Nicholas Pinnock (Captain America: The First Avenger, "Marcella," "A.D. The Bible Continues") and Sara Serraiocco (Salvo, Cloro, Worldly Girl) have been cast as series regulars in STARZ Original series "Counterpart" from MRC, Anonymous Content and Gilbert Films.

The espionage thriller with a metaphysical twist stars Oscar(R) winner JK Simmons (Whiplash, The Accountant, Juno), Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense, Hyde Park on Hudson, "Manhattan") and Harry Lloyd (The Theory of Everything, Jane Eyre, "Manhattan"). Academy Award(R) nominee Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game, Passengers) will direct the first episode.

"Counterpart" is the story of Howard Silk (JK Simmons), a lowly cog in a bureaucratic agency, who discovers that the agency he works for is really guarding a crossing into a parallel dimension. Through Howard and his "Counterpart" on the other side, the show will navigate themes of identity, what ifs and lost love. Starz ordered two seasons of 10 episodes each of "Counterpart" in 2015.

Michael Nyqvist will portray Chekhov, the hardened Director of Operations at Howard's agency and a strange mix of philosopher and spy. With an impressive body of work spanning the course of two decades, Nyqvist has evolved into one of Sweden's most respected and accomplished actors of his generation. Over the last few years, Nyqvist has made the successful transition into American cinema. Film credits include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy, John Wick, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and Disconnect. He will next be seen in Frank & Lola, which will hit U.S. theaters in December. He is repped by Authentic Talent & Literary Management, ICM Partners and Sweden's Agentfirman.

Nazanin Boniadi will play Clare, an enigmatic young woman of curious origin, who becomes a major lynchpin as the season develops. Boniadi is currently shooting Hotel Mumbai with Dev Patel and Armie Hammer for director Anthony Maras. Additional film and television credits include "Homeland," Ben-Hur, 'Scandal," and "How I Met Your Mother." For two seasons, Boniadi co-starred as CIA analyst Fara Sherazi on the Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R) award-winning drama "Homeland," for which she shared a 2015 SAG(R) Award nomination in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category. Most recently, Boniadi co-starred as Esther opposite Jack Huston and Morgan Freeman in the MGM-Paramount remake of Ben-Hur. Among her many television credits, Boniadi portrayed Nora, a relatively longstanding love interest to Neil Patrick Harris's Barney Stinson, in seasons six and seven of "How I Met Your Mother." She also appeared as the notorious Adnan Salif in season three of Shonda Rhimes' hit political drama "Scandal." Boniadi is repped by ICM Partners, Jordan Lee Talent and Stone, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder & Christopher, LLP.

Nicholas Pinnock will play Ian Shaw, an aggressive operative and watchdog whose job is to ensure an uneasy peace between both dimensions. Earlier this year, Pinnock was seen in History's 4-part series "Barbarians Rising" in the role of Hannibal. He also recently starred in ITV 1's crime drama "Marcella" as the male lead alongside Anna Friel, Laura Carmichael and Sinead Cusack in the 8-part drama. Pinnock returns to the stage later this year for his second round in "The Royale," reprising the role of Jay Jackson. Other film and television credits include Captain America: The First Avenger and "A.D. The Bible Continues." Pinnock is repped by Jeff Golenberg at Silver Lining Entertainment.

Sara Serraiocco will play Baldwin, a mysterious assassin whose life takes on a new purpose when she is exposed to the other side. The Italian-born actress landed the lead role in the acclaimed film Salvo in 2013, winning the Globo d'oro award for best actress and the lead role in Cloro in 2015 for which she received the best actress nomination. Serraiocco won the Pasinetti Award at the Venice Film Festival 2016 for her lead role in the movie La Ragazza del Mondo (aka Worldly Girl), directed by Marco Danieli. In 2016 Sara was chosen as a European Shooting Star, winning the prestigious award as one of the European newcomers of the year at the Berlinale Film Festival. Serraiocco is repped by Robin Hudson and Gavin Mills at UK-based Olivia Bell Management and Italian agency Officine Artistiche.

Created and written by Justin Marks (The Jungle Book), "Counterpart" is executive produced by Tyldum and Marks with Amy Berg ("Da Vinci's Demons"), Gary Gilbert (La La Land) with Gilbert Films, Jordan Horowitz (La La Land), Keith Redmon (The Revenant) and Bard Dorros (Spotlight) with Anonymous Content. Simmons also serves as a producer.

DELROY LINDO JOINS THE CAST OF THE NEW EDITION OF “THE GOOD WIFE,” ON CBS ALL ACCESS

LOS ANGELES – Oct. 13, 2016 – Tony and SAG Award nominee Delroy Lindo has joined the cast of the new edition of “The Good Wife” on CBS All Access http://www.cbs.com/allaccess, the CBS Television Network’s subscription video on-demand and live streaming service.

Lindo will play Robert Boseman, an attorney who starts poaching Diane Lockhart’s associates and clients when she gets into financial trouble, and threatens her ability to stay in business.

“Boseman is a character who dominates every scene, intimidates every lawyer, and is beloved by every client. He needs to look like a Chicago lawyer, but have a Shakespearian facility with language, and Delroy Lindo was really the only actor who came to mind,” said executive producers Robert and Michelle King. “Obviously, we always loved his work in ‘Get Shorty’ and ‘Clockers,’ but it really was his work in ‘Heist’ that jumps off the screen. It’s an incredible character he created and we are thrilled that Delroy agreed to come on board. Just thinking of his scenes with Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo makes us smile.”

Lindo is a British-American actor and theater director. He is perhaps best known for his roles in the Spike Lee films “Malcolm X” and “Crooklyn.” His additional film credits include “Get Shorty,” “Clockers,” “Heist,” “The Cider House Rules” and “Gone in 60 Seconds.”

Lindo’s television credits include starring roles in the series “The Chicago Code” and “Believe.”

Lindo joins Emmy Award winner Christine Baranski, who will reprise her role as Diane Lockhart, Cush Jumbo as Lucca Quinn, Sarah Steele as Marissa Gold, and Rose Leslie as Maia, Diane’s goddaughter.

As previously announced, the new series will pick up one year after the events of the final broadcast episode of “The Good Wife.” In the series, an enormous financial scam has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, Maia, while simultaneously wiping out her mentor Diane Lockhart’s savings. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, they join Lucca Quinn at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms.

The CBS All Access new edition of “The Good Wife” will debut in February 2017 with a special broadcast on the CBS Television Network, then move exclusively to CBS All Access.

Robert and Michelle King, creators and executive producers of “The Good Wife,” return as the showrunners and executive producers of the new series. Phil Alden Robinson co-wrote and will executive produce the premiere episode along with the Kings. Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer, Brooke Kennedy and Alison Cross also serve as executive producers. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions. The series will be distributed worldwide by CBS Studios International.

ROSE LESLIE JOINS THE CAST OF THE ALL-NEW EDITION OF “THE GOOD WIFE” AS A SERIES REGULAR ON CBS ALL ACCESS

Rose Leslie, star of “Game of Thrones,” has joined the cast of the new edition of “The Good Wife” on CBS All Access http://www.cbs.com/allaccess, the CBS Television Network’s subscription video on-demand and live streaming service. Leslie will play Maia, Diane’s goddaughter who joins her firm just after passing the bar, and is a key part of Diane’s plan for the future.

“We’re thrilled to have Rose on board,” said executive producers Robert and Michelle King. “We needed a young actress who could hold her own with Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo, and Rose is perfect. She’s real, she’s strong and she can play comedy. If we designed an actress from the ground up, we couldn’t have done better.”

As previously announced, the new series will pick up one year after the events of the final broadcast episode of “The Good Wife.” In the series, an enormous financial scam has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, Maia (Rose Leslie), while simultaneously wiping out her mentor Diane Lockhart’s savings. Update: Plot Of The Good Wife Spinoff Revealed Exclusively by Deadline.

Here is the news – the spinoff series will center around an enormous financial scam that has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, while simultaneously wiping out her mentor Diane Lockhart’s savings. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, they join Lucca Quinn at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms.

Steele will reprise her role as Eli Gold’s smart and outspoken daughter Marissa Gold. In the spinoff, she is a brilliant but scattered millennial who begins as Diane Lockhart’s secretary, but finds she has a knack for investigating. The character will continue the original series’ tradition of strong and sassy female investigators, following in the footsteps of Kalinda and Robyn.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that Sarah will be joining the show,” Robert and Michelle King told Deadline. “She’s a magnificent comedian with the dramatic skill to keep every scene real.”

The negotiations were complicated by Steele’s limited availability because of her co-starring role in the Broadway hit The Humans, which won Tony for best play. The stage show was supposed to end its run on July 24 but instead it moved to another theater starting Aug.

The 10-episode The Good Wife spinoff will premiere in February on CBS — its original network — before its episodes are released on CBS’ SVOD and live streaming platform All Access.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Sarah Steele is set to reprise her role as Eli Gold’s hilariously sardonic daughter Marissa in the digital-only offshoot — and as a full-fledged series regular to boot. News of her casting comes just days after it was formally announced that Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King will not only exec-produce the drama, but serve as showrunners as well.

CBS ALL ACCESS ANNOUNCES NEW PREMIERE DATES FOR “STAR TREK: DISCOVERY” AND THE ALL-NEW EDITION OF “THE GOOD WIFE”

NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES – Sept. 14, 2016 – CBS All Access, the CBS Television Network’s subscription video on-demand and live streaming service, today announced new premiere dates for its new original series STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and the all-new edition of “The Good Wife.”

The highly anticipated STAR TREK: DISCOVERY will now launch in May 2017. The new premiere date is driven by the belief of the creative team that this gives the show the appropriate time for delivery of the highest quality, premium edition of the first new “Star Trek” TV series in over a decade.

“Bringing ‘Star Trek’ back to television carries a responsibility and mission: to connect fans and newcomers alike to the series that has fed our imaginations since childhood,” said executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller. “We aim to dream big and deliver, and that means making sure the demands of physical and post-production for a show that takes place entirely in space, and the need to meet an air date, don’t result in compromised quality. Before heading into production, we evaluated these realities with our partners at CBS and they agreed: ‘Star Trek’ deserves the very best, and these extra few months will help us achieve a vision we can all be proud of.”

“The series template and episodic scripts that Alex and Bryan have delivered are incredibly vivid and compelling,” said David Stapf, President, CBS Television Studios. “They are building a new, very ambitious ‘Star Trek’ world for television, and everyone involved supports their vision for the best timing to bring to life what we all love on the page.”

Following its May 2017 premiere on the CBS Television Network, all episodes of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY will be available in the U.S. exclusively on CBS All Access. Continuing the worldwide appeal of the franchise, each episode of the series will be available globally within 24 hours of its U.S. premiere, presented on Netflix in 188 countries and through Bell Media platforms in Canada.

In addition, CBS All Access announced today that their new edition of “The Good Wife” will debut in February 2017, essentially switching launch windows with STAR TREK: DISCOVERY providing two highly anticipated original premieres in the first half of 2017. The new “Good Wife” will premiere with a special broadcast on the CBS Television Network, and then move exclusively to CBS All Access. As previously announced, the new series will pick up one year after the events of the final episode of “The Good Wife.” The new series will star Emmy Award-winner Christine Baranski, who will reprise her role as the beloved Diane Lockhart, joined by fan-favorite Cush Jumbo as Lucca Quinn, along with the introduction of new characters as the story evolves.

Robert and Michelle King, creators and executive producers of “The Good Wife,” will return as the showrunners and executive producers of the spinoff. Phil Alden Robinson co-wrote and will executive produce the premiere episode along with the Kings. Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer and Brooke Kennedy will also serve as executive producers. The series will be produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions.

In addition to STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and the new edition of “The Good Wife,” CBS All Access is also launching a new digital edition of BIG BROTHER, called BIG BROTHER: OVER THE TOP, on Sept. 28.

Source:

CBS

The scheduling shift was driven by a request by creative team of Star Trek: Discovery. Created/executive produced by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, the new Star Trek series has three completed scripts and the first season mapped out. Sources say the show, which is now casting, was moving along according to its production schedule but its producers proactively asked the studio for more time to use in pre-production, filming and post.

The same release pattern will be used for the 10-episode The Good Wife spinoff, which also will premiere on CBS — its original network — presumably during the February sweep before its episodes are released on CBS All Access. Additionally, The Good Wife creators/showrunners Robert and Michelle King, who co-wrote the opening episode of the spinoff with Phil Alden Robinson, are boarding the series as full-time showrunners/executive producers. They had been tied up on their summer CBS series BrainDead, which is not likely to return for a second season. Even if that happens, the Kings would be able to handle both shows. meanwhile, Robinson, who had been announced in May as an executive producer on the series, will serve in that capacity on the first episode only, with no further involvement.

Hey all,

Well, well, well. Some real heavy hitters on show today as we move to the right-hand side of the competition bracket. First up is a show lesser known to many TV viewers, HBO's Game of Thrones. (Okay, so it might be the most popular show in the world. I'll check on that.) GoT has made the competition's top ten on four from five occasions since its inception, and today, in the first battle between two Emmy winners, it faces the recently ended The Good Wife. We then move on and see surprise critical darling Mr. Robot facing one of the other most popular shows in the world, The Walking Dead. AMC's zombie drama has gotten on a lot of viewers' bad sides after a sixth season full of shenanigans, so it'll be interesting to see how much that translates here today.

A reminder of the rules:

1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round.
2) Vote for your favourite, spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) To vote, login with either your Facebook, Twitter or Google+ profile. If you don't want to use any of those, you can go direct to Opinion Stage and get an account to vote. One vote per person per poll.
4) Comment on what you voted for on in the comments below.
5) Have fun. This is a friendly & competitive competition. Please do not start attacking other fans or fangroups in the comments, because this really isn't what this competition is about.
