Project Blue Book fans will be left with a few questions after History cancelled the Aidan Gillen-fronted drama.

The second season of the UFO drama ended on March 24 with Gillen’s Dr. Allen Hynek searching for his colleague Capt. Michael Quinn, played by Michael Malarkey, who was evidently blown to bits by an underwater explosion.

Separately, the network confirmed that Knightfall, the medieval drama, has been cancelled.

Project Blue Book “Broken Arrow” was written by Linda Burstyn and was directed by Norma Bailey. All the female power was behind the camera as we don’t see either Mimi (Laura Mennell) or Susie (Ksenia Solo) in the episode. I always love it when an episode actually features the location that they shoot at, and this episode takes us to British Colombia for what looks like Quinn (Michael Malarkey) and Hynek’s (Aidan Gillen) final case together. It also brings us back to the cold war with a jolt. I kept thinking as the episode began that this really seemed like they could be looking for a way to wind up the series, but the episode ends on a happier note and Hynek and Quinn clearly aren’t done – and have good friends in high places!

The teaser for the episode involves a plane wandering into Canadian airspace. The pilot – Yuri (Michael Filipowich) – and co-pilot – Alex (Willem van der Vegt) don’t respond to Canadian Air Traffic control. They then encounter a UFO directly in their flight path, lose control of their aircraft, and both disappear from radar.

Hynek goes to Quinn’s apartment with the case. Quinn’s apartment is a mess due to the FBI trashing it looking for listening devices. Quinn is also a mess – both because he clearly did have feelings for Susie and because he is disappointed that the Air Force could ever doubt his loyalty. Hynek assures Quinn that Susie had everyone fooled – and I think we saw enough glimpses to realize that she did have real feelings for both Quinn and Mimi.

There are some really great scenes between Hynek and Quinn in this episode. I really liked Hynek trying to make Quinn feel better and finally telling him that he knows who Quinn is and looks up to him. Quinn answers “me too” – which is perfectly, typically male of him! Hynek tells Quinn that he’s considering taking a sabbatical and returning to his research – ufology needs a lot more study – but first, he’s got this new case that just came in – and he hasn’t been informed through official channels that Quinn is on administrative leave… plus, he’s bought the airline tickets!

In BC, the two meet with Vice Marshall Christopher Thomas (Michael Shanks) who is apparently a big fan of their work. He’s even been advocating for a Canadian program for years. He tells them about the incident and that it looked like the second aircraft was hunting the first. They received a transmission an hour after the first from 60,000 feet with the words “they’re taking us.” This is never really explained in the episode, however.

They do know that the plane crashed and have a 200 square mile search radius. Quinn and Hynek decide to go to look for witnesses on the ground at a logging outpost that has no communication with the outside. Thomas lends them a sea plane, which Quinn is easily able to fly.

We get another great scene with the two as they fly north. Quinn is considering going back to flying – and Hynek remarks on how much he clearly likes it. Hynek isn’t sure if he’ll go back to teaching. Quinn remarks that they made quite a team – and then he lets Hynek get a taste for flying.

Meanwhile, back in Ohio, Harding (Neal McDonough) is having a hard time getting Susie to crack. Valentine (Michael Harney) puts an end to Harding’s babbling by telling him that the UK passed on a transmission that the CIA decoded. They have to brief the President immediately…. And then they head to BC to talk to Thomas.

At the logging camp, Jean (Kelly-Ruth Mercier) tells them that she saw the plane crack in half and crash and tells them where to look. Hynek points out that it’s in the opposite direction of the last transmission and suggests that they get back in the air to call the base. Quinn does call, and they redirect the search. Hynek sees part of the plane from the air and they land, finding an empty parachute hanging in a tree – and then Yuri on the ground.

As soon as he wakes up, Yuri is frantic to know where the plane is. He tells them that they had cargo flying from Greenland to Alaska – which makes no sense. Quinn knows something feels off, but Hynek is ready to brush it off as shock from the crash. They find the front of the plane and remove Alex from it. Quinn goes to look for a medical kit and discovers Russian in the cockpit, eliciting a “you’ve got to be fucking kidding me” from him! Quinn calls Hynek in and tells him it’s a Russian bomber – and of course, Yuri follows them in and pulls a gun on them, dropping his American accent.

Hynek tells him that hurting them won’t help him, and Yuri explains that he doesn’t intend to hurt them – he needs their help to find the rest of the plane. Quinn is furious when he finds out that they were actually transporting a live nuclear bomb – and that’s the broken arrow of the title – a missing nuclear bomb. Yuri points out that if it goes off, it will start WWIII. The plan had been for them to test Canadian radar – get picked up and then turn back. Alex tells them that whatever they saw, it felt like it was trying to take the bomb from them. Yuri insists that they have to find the bomb and try to use the internal safety switch to turn it off – so it doesn’t arm and go off…. Assuming it isn’t already armed.

As they search, Alex tells Quinn that he fought in WWII and was decorated 5 times – Quinn tells him that he was decorated 6 times. Alex asks why they are investigating UFOs and if he believes in aliens because he does. Quinn tells him that he’s doing it to protect his country – but doesn’t really answer the second question.

Meanwhile, Hynek walks with Yuri. Russia has its own history with UFOs. Hynek asks if there were increased sightings around military bases after the war, and Yuri says yes. I liked how they showed that the Russians and Americans weren’t so very different. Quinn interrupts, however, and tells Hynek to watch what he says. Hynek insists that he’s trying to build trust. He is also happy that the entire incident supports his theory that the UFOs are actually there to protect them from themselves.

Of course, they find the bomb. There’s no way to know if it’s armed except going in to check. Quinn doesn’t trust Yuri to do it, and Yuri calls him a stupid American, pointing out that they don’t want a war either! The argument escalates with Yuri pulling the gun again, and Hynek steps in to stop it – calling them both idiots. He tells them that he’ll do it because he has the most experience with delicate machinery.

As Hynek prepares to go in, Quinn tells him that if it doesn’t go well, he just wants to tell him… and Hynek cuts him off telling him that’s not helping! It was a nice moment of humor. Hynek goes in with Alex giving him directions. The dial is stuck so there’s no way to know if it’s armed or not. Hynek will have to go inside – the much riskier method. He’s warned again and again to be careful and that the charge could kill him. We see him being clumsy with no effect.

Meanwhile, the Generals have informed Thomas about the broken arrow and the searchers have found the front half of the plane.

Hynek disconnects the 32 wires and comes out to find Yuri with the gun on Quinn again. Now they don’t need them so he’s prepared to kill them. This is going to mean war. Hynek tells him that he doesn’t have to do it. Yuri’s plan is to try to make it home in their sea plane. Hynek then pretends he has the core from the bomb and throws it at them, getting Yuri to drop the gun. It turns out that it’s empty – it’s too light to be full of plutonium! Quinn tells them that the Kremlin was testing them – not Canadian radar. He assumes there never was a live bomb, but Hynek is still convinced that the UFO disarmed it.

Yuri seems ready to be nice again and shake hands, but this time Quinn doesn’t trust him and holds the gun on him. Hynek still tries for understanding and is just convincing the others that if they have things in common – like not wanting war – and can get along, maybe there is hope for their countries. But they’re interrupted by the arrival of the Generals and the army.

Harding is pleased and tells them that they want a full report when they get back. He commends them both and tells them that they were heroic! He also tells them that their work is more important than ever. Clearly, catching two Russian spies puts Quinn in the clear.

Hynek points out that they never did find the rest of the plane. But the two are just happy that they are back in business!

Back at the Base, it’s the start of a new day. Quinn is peeved that Hynek beat him in to work, but the two turn immediately to the new cases that are piling up – after Faye (Jill Morrison) welcomes them back. The two are interrupted by the appearance of Senator Kennedy (Caspar Phillipson)! I loved how everyone was so flustered to see him. He’s there because of a developing situation in the North Atlantic. A triangular craft has been spotted – but it came OUT of the water! He wants Project Blue Book on it… and there’s our set up for the final episode of the season!

I thought this was a good solid episode. It brought us back around to the cold war in an interesting way, and it also got the team back on solid ground. I loved the scenes between Quinn and Hynek in particular in this episode. Of course, there’s been no word if this is the final season, but I’m cautiously hopeful that we’ll get a third season. What did you think of the episode? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database. The Ratings Post is made available around 30 minutes before the normal release of the Early Overnight Preliminary Ratings so give people a chance for a quick chat in the comments beforehand should they wish to do so.

Normally between 4pm-5pm GMT we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above. Finally, later in the evening (9pm-10pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database as well as the above tables.

The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc . Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday (9pm GMT), whilst Sunday's will be available on Tuesdays (3pm GMT).

Project Blue Book “What Lies Beneath” was written by Alec Wells and directed by John Scott, whose other credits include Suits, The Catch, and The Magicians. The episode continues Hynek (Aidan Gillen) and Quinn’s (Michael Malarkey) search for answers and introduces new help from an unexpected quarter – Andrew Garner (played by another of my favorite and very busy Canadian actors – Brian Markinson). However, the big reveal is their new behind the scenes supporter – John F Kennedy (Caspar Phillipson)!!! Susie’s (Ksenia Solo) seems to come to a head in this episode too. I really liked how this title resonated with what lay beneath the surface of Susie, Project Blue Book, and Garner!

The episode begins with a flashback of the night that Hynek and Quinn returned from Washington. They are about to celebrate when they’re interrupted by John (Daryl Sabara), who works on the base – in Hanger 18. He tells them that it’s not a hanger but a lab. He’s working on reverse engineering Russian technology, except it’s NOT Russian. He’s blowing the whistle because his brother died in WWII, and they’re planning to blame the UFOs on Russia in order to start another war. He’ll only meet them off the base with proof… and then is intercepted by the Generals.

The present rendez vous proves more fruitful. Garner also worries the higher ups are trying to trigger another World War. He tells them he’s there for someone else – someone in Congress who is their friend. He gives them some files on sightings over bases, but he wants them to provide more proof so that they can then expose the conspiracy of covering up extraterrestrial life.

While Hynek and Quinn fly home, they look over the files. Garner told them about a pilot who had a similar experience to Quinn, who looks at some photos and is clearly triggered by them. He tells Hynek that he’s the only person that he trusts right then. Hynek assures him that he’s always on his side.

When the two arrive back at their office, Special Agent Stevens (Chris William Martin) of the OSI, won’t let them in! It’s a matter of national security as a number of offices have been burglarized, and Blue Book is shut down… indefinitely! Quinn tells Hynek that he’ll stick around even if they won’t let him in his office and tells Hynek to take the stolen files that they do have and get out of there!

Faye (Jill Morrison) tells Quinn that she didn’t go it – or tell the OSI anything. Quinn assures her that he never thought she would. Faye tells him that she’s scared, and I loved that he thought she was scared for herself when she’s scared for him!

Hynek goes home to find Susie there with Mimi. Darla has told Susie to come in, but she’s clearly running. Is she hoping that Quinn will protect her? Regardless, there is someone outside the house… waiting and watching. Susie has told Mimi that Cal is back as her excuse for being there – and frightened! I was surprised that Mimi and Hynek clearly know that Quinn and Susie are together.

Hynek examines the files and finds Valentine (Michael Harney) in one of the photos, proving their knowledge and involvement in the cover up. Mimi sees the car and wants to call the police but Susie stops her, asking if she still has the gun – and then goes to find it. There’s a great split shot of Mimi outside the bathroom door and Susie in it.

Quinn shows up – and knows that Mimi took the files from the office. Hynek doesn’t believe it at first, and I have to say that I’m getting tired of Quinn (or Hynek) saying they trust the other early in the episode only to doubt the other by the end – move on guys! Mimi, of course, does tell Hynek the truth. She also tells him that after the Robertson panel she was afraid that they were going to destroy his whole life and career. She shows him the files she stole from the General’s office. They are blueprints and he knows what they are.

Susie tells Quinn she has to leave town, and he assures her that she can tell him anything. She’s interrupted by Hynek, and he and Quinn both pour over the files. John was telling the truth – and these are the files he was going to give them. Hynek suggests they could expose everything, but Quinn wants to give the files back. Hynek points out that they either have to expose them or he and Mimi will be arrested by the OSI. It was interesting that Susie ends up in the room – and is she surprised that they really are investigating UFOs and not building weapons?

Susie asks Mimi if she took something after the two are shoo’d out of the room. Mimi says that she did something bad and put her family in danger. Susie assures her that there’s always a way out – and who knew that it would be Susie herself!

Hynek and Quinn are fighting when Fedor (Kris Yurij) burst in, looking for Susie. Susie comes out with the gun and shoots him! Mimi calls the police. Fedor speaks Russian – and exposes Susie as the spy she is. He tells them that she’s going to finish the job – and she kills him before anyone can stop her. Susie tries to talk to Quinn. She tells him that he knows how valuable she is. She promises to take the blame for everything. They let the police take her away, but all three decide to let Susie take the blame.

Meanwhile, Valentine and Harding (Neal McDonough) turn to Banks (Jerod Haynes) for help with Garner. Valentine knows that very Catholic Harding won’t approve of the fact that the CIA get information by using prostitutes to give people LSD to get them to talk. There’s another nice split shot right after the one with Mimi and Susie, with the generals on one side of a two way mirror and Garner with Betty (Michelle DeShon) on the other.

Banks leaves, and when Garner starts to get high from the LSD, Betty starts asking questions. The LSD is supposed to just act like a truth serum, but Garner starts raving about them not being alone and that God is there. When he starts roughing up Betty, Valentine and Harding burst in. Garner tells Harding that he has a message for him – from God – but Harding has to be ready to hear it… and of course, Harding wants to hear it. They don’t seem to get anything against Hynek and Quinn, however.

When the Generals do get the files back, Harding admits that Valentine had been right about Susie. He wonders about Quinn. Valentine says that they’ll have to watch him, and if nothing else, Quinn was sloppy. The Generals storyline ends with Banks bringing Harding some LSD – it seems he wants a direct line to God! This somewhat interestingly parallels a similar storyline on the show Evil, in which a character uses drugs to see visions of God….

Quinn and Hynek are surprised by a call from Senator Kennedy. He tells them that he was a friend of Fairchild’s. He’s seen the film, and it’s clear that he believes. Hynek tells him that their best way forward is with science and observation. After the call, Quinn speculates that this is who Garner is working for. Hynek wonders where Kennedy is getting his information.

Faye brings them a letter from John that contains his “proof” – it’s a key, which just looks like a slab of metal. The two head down to Hanger 18, but they find it completely empty. Hynek wonders if the Generals have set them up, and asks Quinn what their next move is. Quinn tells him that he doesn’t know.

With only two episodes left, they’ve really ramped things up. It looks like even if Susie does love Quinn that she’s lost him forever. Could staunch patriot Quinn ever forgive her for being a spy? Unlikely. Having Kennedy in their corner is an interesting twist. What will Harding discover on LSD? McDonough is doing a great job showing the cracks in this character – he’s becoming more and more of a wild card. What IS the next move for Hynek and Quinn? What did you think of the episode? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Project Blue Book “Curse of the Skinwalker” was written by Harley Peyton and directed by Norma Bailey. This episode takes us back into creepy government conspiracy/experimentation territory with some good old-fashioned woodsy horror thrown into the mix. The episode also features one of my favorite Canadian actors, Christopher Heyerdahl (Edmund) as the mysterious neighbor. We also find Susie (Ksenia Solo) getting into hot water and Mimi (Laura Mennell) getting sidelined. I’m still finding the show isn’t doing as well finding the balance between storylines this season.

Like any good horror show, the episode opens with a creepy kid – Billy (Liam Hughes) – who has taken to sleep walking… in the woods. Parents, Rex (Jesse Hutch) and Laura (Spencer Grammer) follow him and they all end up seeing blue lights and what appears to be an alien.

Hynek (Aidan Gillen) and Quinn (Michael Malarkey) are on the case. We get lots of great scenes between these two and it seems like the car setting has settled down to be a staple of the show. Hynek points out that the blue lights can be explained as natural phenomenon – and we find out later he’s right about that. Quinn, hilariously, points out that the alien sighting is the headline!

Edmund almost hits them with his car and tries to warn them off. There are creatures in the woods…

Hynek and Quinn get a rather chilly reception at the farmhouse and notice that there are bars on the windows and door. Billy stares at them creepily from the house as they head into the woods with Rex and Laura, who are actually happy to see them. They tell them that the bars were there when they moved in. They take them to the site where they saw the alien. Quinn sees some black goo bubbling out of the earth – which is never really explained. They find a scarecrow like figure in the woods which explains the “alien” that they saw. Laura tells them that Edmond is not a friendly neighbor and that the community generally doesn’t like outsiders. We learn later that they can’t move because it would bankrupt them. They are interrupted by the dog, which was locked in the house, showing up. Returning to the house, they find Billy hiding in the closet, and he tells them that the alien was there.

Hynek remarks on a sweet smell he detected in the house. Rex is convinced Edmond was in the house and takes his horse to go and see his neighbor. Quinn wants to stay out of it because it’s not their business, but Hynek insists that it’s related! The two find Rex’s horse abandoned on the road and head into the woods to find him.

The two separate and Quinn looks woozy for a moment. Hynek is chased by a black wolf and falls down a hill. Quinn finds more scarecrow aliens and ends up upside down in a trap. It’s Edmund and he cuts him down. Rex shows up and is going to shoot Edmund, but he tells them that he’s trying to protect the Chapmans from the curse that was put on their land by the Navajos – it’s why they paid so little for their land. He tells them that when a medicine man becomes a skinwalker, he can change into the form of an animal, but he has to do something evil in order to be able to transform. He tells Rex that it’s too late if they’ve entered his home. They’ll come back and kill them! Rex warns Edmund off, and Quinn tells him to keep away for everyone’s safety.

Hynek meanwhile has found some kind of cylinder. He has no idea what it is, but Quinn does and they go to the local Air Force base. It’s an experimental flare. They meet with a scientist (JoBeth Williams) who tells them that she’s a private contractor using the flares for research.

Both Quinn and Hynek feel like something is off about her. On the way back to the ranch, they discuss a hum they’ve been hearing and then there is apparently an earthquake! Quinn can smell the sweet smell coming out of a crack left in the ground. An electric pole has been knocked down. They have no choice but to continue to the ranch.

Quinn has a moment with Laura and Rex thanks Hynek for all they’ve done. Meanwhile, Billy is reading and then his Jack-in-the-box starts playing music. Hynek comes into Billy’s room and offers to fix the toy which appears to be broken, but Billy insists that the music is the only thing that keeps the alien away.

Edmund turns up at the ranch, saying he tracked the skinwalker there, and Billy is missing. They find a tunnel in a hidden door in the cupboard where Billy had been hiding before. Hynek and Quinn follow the tunnel and experience another earthquake. Quinn seems to see the skinwalker and then Hynek comes back for him. He’s found a ladder and when they climb up, they find Billy watching tv… in a lab!

The Scientist doesn’t want to explain, so Quinn threatens to bring in the Generals. She tells them that they are studying the relationship between tremors and alien sightings. The tremors are fabricated and release gas – causing the blue lights and presumably hallucinations. Hynek is not impressed that they are using the Chapmans as unwitting lab rats! The woman promises to apologize to the Chapmans, but Hynek and Quinn insist on compensation and threaten to reveal her entire set up to their contacts at major papers! She caves.

The Chapmans are ecstatic and happy – and ready to move. In the car, we get another great scene between Hynek and Quinn – Malarkey and Gillen really do have great chemistry. Quinn confirms that they don’t really have contacts at the Times – but he’s also glad not to be spending another night in the Chapman house! The last we see of the house, the Scientist is now posing as a real estate agent, selling the ranch to another unsuspecting family.

Neither Mimi nor Susie have a good time in this episode. Mimi finds herself thrown off Project Blue Book when she arrives at the base and Faye (Jill Morrison) apologetically won’t give her access on the orders of General Valentine (Michael Harney). She hugs Mimi and does get Mimi’s own papers. Trying to find solace with her UFO group, Evan (Keir O’Donnell) tells her that after the Robertson Panel, she is no longer welcome there either. She’s lost her access to government information and now poses a risk to the group. He tells her to be careful.

Susie meanwhile is caught by Harding (Neal McDonough) in the middle of cleaning up Rizzuto’s apartment. He’s there because Rizzuto was supposed to meet with him. Rookie mistake Susie! There is no way that he’s buying her as Rizzuto’s girlfriend! And now she is dangerously close to being exposed.

Harding takes Susie into custody, and Valentine also interrogates her – gently. He tells her that she’s only there because they need her help. He asks for details – how did she meet Rizzuto? Who can vouch for seeing them together? She coolly covers that they’d only been going out a very short time… They let her go as they have nothing to hold her on, but they are going to have her followed! No doubt, right to Quinn’s door!!

This was an interesting episode. I like how they keep the cases all a little different. I’ll be sad if Mimi is now sidelined, and it definitely looks like Susie’s story is building to a climax. Will she confess all to Quinn and throw herself on his mercy? Ask for his help in getting her daughter? What did you think of the episode? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Project Blue Book “Close Encounters” was written by Linda Burstyn and was directed by Wendey Stanzler. Burstyn joins the writing room with credits from Chasing Life, State of Affairs, and NCIS, which makes her a good fit for this episode which mostly centers on the Robertson Panel.

I really liked how this episode was told from the perspective of 1976 with flashbacks to the events of 1957. We find out that Hynek (Aidan Gillen) was a consultant on Stephen Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind! This is actually true – and the real Hynek even had a cameo in the film! It’s while on set that Hynek is interviewed by a reporter (Catherine Lough Haggquist). Mimi (Laura Mannell) is there with him and helps to tell the story of the events surrounding the Robertson Panel.

Help with the Robertson Panel comes from an unexpected source when Hynek arrives home to find David Dubrovsky (Bronson Pinchot) performing magic for Joel (Nicholas Holmes) after tracking Hynek down through Mimi at her UFO group. He has a message from extraterrestrials for Hynek. Only David can save him from the Robertson Panel.

Quinn (Michael Malarkey) is reluctant to give any time to David and his story – or the photo of aliens that he has. Pinchot was a terrific guest star. I loved how he was both matter-of-fact about his encounters and totally eccentric. Quinn scoffs that the aliens spoke English to David, and he shoots back of course not! They communicate telepathically. He also surprises Quinn by knowing exactly what Quinn saw over Washington. David tells Hynek that he’s been chosen – by the aliens – to tell the truth, and David has been chosen to help Hynek. He leaves, telling them that he can’t help unless they let him.

When an expert (Yumi Ogawa) verifies the picture – as far as she is able – Quinn and Hynek go after David to learn more. He shows them where the aliens come to meet with him – and they’ve left a message for Hynek – the mysterious symbol from last year, now woven into the grass. David is sure it’s a message that they want the three of them to work together. The three sit around a fire that night waiting for them to arrive. There’s a nice moment between Hynek and Quinn when David goes for firewood. Hynek confesses he’s worried about the Panel and Quinn tries to reassure him.

When David returns, he’s not himself. His eyes are completely whited out and he’s clearly channeling someone. When Quinn tries to touch him, he looks like he’s been shocked by electricity. “David” tells them that Hynek is in danger and only David can save him – and then he collapses.

Quinn and Hynek meet with Valentine (Michael Harney) before the Panel. He gives Hynek a prepared statement to read. Hynek wants to say that they need further study and money to do it. Valentine tells them he expects them both to act with honor and integrity – and Hynek to state that there is no evidence to support that UFOs are extraterrestrial in nature.

We flash to 1976 for Hynek to explain that they wanted him to state that he didn’t believe. The reporter presses to know what he really believed. Hynek explains – not for the first time – that science doesn’t “believe.” The one truth is that UFOs exist and some can’t be explained. His choice was to tell the truth and have Project Blue Book shut down – or lie. And then he abruptly ends the interview and Mimi apologies by explaining that Hynek still has a hard time talking about it.

Hynek is appalled by the Panel because the supposed scientists aren’t even looking at the evidence. They’ve already made up their minds. In the end, even Quinn is disgusted by the sham. Hynek realizes that they have two choices. Read Valentine’s statement and be shut down for incompetence or tell the truth and the Generals will shut them down. It seems as if the cavalry has arrived when Banks (Jerod Haynes) shows up to help.

And then it’s a crushing disappointment – to Hynek, Quinn, and me! – when Banks utterly betrays them. He’s been working against them the whole time. He tells the panel that their work is careless and incompetent. Quinn is about to punch him! Banks tells the Panel to shut down all investigations for the sake of National security. Hynek in particular is devastated because he trusted Banks. Mimi tries to soothe him by saying that he’s skeptical of everything but people, which doesn’t make him a bad person.

And then, like magic, David shows up at just the right time. At first, Quinn is angry because he thinks David is with Banks. It’s Quinn, however, who convinces the Panel to hear David’s story – and then he uses it to his advantage. David tells them that he was told to come to the panel by beings from another planet and that they have a message for the Panel: Don’t be afraid. Stay open and believe. The ships aren’t there to hurt them but to teach them.

Quinn then tells the panel that David is a typical case. They look into it and the prevent panic. If the Panel shuts them down, they invalidate all the work they’ve done and call all their findings into question – it would start a panic! He tells them that they understand their role and with the Panel’s help they can continue to spread their message that UFOs don’t exist.

Hynek is effusive in his praise of Quinn. Banks leaves – and is not happy. Quinn is happy that he was right about Banks all along! Banks thinks of Quinn as an equal – it’s just a new administration bying for a position on the field. Quinn points out that Banks also played against Hynek – who really isn’t “one of them,” and Banks replies – all the more reason to push him off the field!

This episode gets back to Susie (Ksenia Solo) as she carries out her promise to do something about Rizzuto (Michael Imperioli). He’s woken out of a sound sleep by the television suddenly turning on. It turns out that she’s trained him, and he’s supposed to report to her and hand her information. She tells him that she knows he’s turned double agent. She also tells him that Daria is done with her – true – and that she didn’t tell Daria she knew he’d turned – false!

She goes on to try to enlist his help to get her daughter out of Russia, so she can’t be used as a pawn against her anymore. There’s a poignant moment when Susie actually gets her daughter on the radio. However, as she is distracted, Rizzuto picks up a hidden gun and turns it on Susie…. Only she knew he would and beat him to it by removing the bullets. She ends up shooting – and presumably killing – him as he watched baseball – his symbol of the American Dream.

The episode ends in 1976 as it began. The reporter remarks that it sounds as if Quinn really saved the day. Hynek says even more than in the Panel. It seems he’d written out what he really believed the night before – and Quinn made sure that it never saw the light of day. The reporter asks what happened to David, and Hynek said that David was a conman, but he did what he said he would do and saved Blue Book.

This was another good episode. I enjoyed the different format – and learning something about what happened later to Hynek and Mimi. Pinchot was a terrific guest star as David. I can’t help thinking that the name David Dubrovsky is very similar to David Duchovny who played Fox Mulder on The X-Files… It looks like Banks is set up to be an adversary, which disappoints me – I really liked the character! But then, he IS CIA… Finally, will Susie get her daughter back and disappear? Will she ever tell Quinn the truth? What did you think of the episode? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Project Blue Book “The Men in Black” was written by Emily Brochin and directed by Wendy Stanzler, whose other credits include Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., This is Us and Arrow. This episode picks up where we left off last week with Hynek’s (Aidan Gillen) abduction by the Fixer – or William (Ian Tracey) as we discover in the episode. The episode finally fills in the blanks on William and Tracey gives an excellent performance as we see his layers peeled back. The episode also features Mimi (Laura Mennell) as the real hero – and a nice team up between Banks (Jarod Haynes) and Quinn (Michael Malarkey).

Hynek wakes up in an airplane hanger with William who is angry that Hynek didn’t follow his instructions and go back to his old life. He allows Hynek to call Mimi and listens to the conversation. I loved that it was clear that Mimi knew something was wrong as soon as Hynek told her to kiss Joel (Nicholas Holmes) good night.

William then tells Hynek about Maury Island – the case that is based on real events – when Ernest Reed (Bradford Tatum) was bringing in his fishing traps when a donut shaped silver craft appeared overhead. It was silent until it seemed to be in distress and he started being pelted with metal fragments. Naturally, Reed later recanted his story – and William was there in the shadows. The object that Hynek stole for William was found by Reed and proves his story was actually true.

William tells Hynek that he’s been grooming him for first contact because he’s going to use Hynek’s reputation to get the world to believe him. William, after all, doesn’t exist. He presents Hynek with a black trench coat like all the others, so that he won’t stand out in a crowd! And I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought of Men In Black – even without the prompt of the episode title!

Hynek is pretty understandably angry with William for pistol whipping him and kidnapping him for starters, but William thinks that he should be grateful for being chosen and all the help he’s given him. Hynek wants to know how William knew about Washington, and William tells Hynek that he knows who he is – he knows Banks took him to the lab. He tells Hynek that he escaped with some others from the lab.

Meanwhile, Mimi goes to Quinn and convinces him that Hynek and her “unofficial code” means that Hynek is in danger. Quinn tries to keep Mimi in the dark, but she’s having none of it. She does agree to stay on the base with Joel to be safe. Once Quinn leaves, Mimi asks Faye (Jill Morrison) if she can see the Blue Book reports – so that she can help. Faye can’t let her – but then offers to take Joel on a tour of the base for an hour. Women have to stick together, right!!?!
Quinn goes to Banks, who confirms who William is. He tells Quinn that William was part of the program and that he is very dangerous, but he was before his own time. He tells Quinn that William had a theory about the program and it’s connection to aliens. William felt that they were conduits who could communicate with aliens. Quinn wants to get help from Rebecca (Hayley McLaughlin) to find Hynek, but Banks insists that she can’t see William. Quinn suggests that they ask her to find Hynek.

William takes Hynek to Reed as they need more pieces from the craft. Reed denies that it happened, and William threatens to shoot him. Hynek jumps in between and tries to convince Reed to take them to where it is. I loved that Hynek pulled some scientific mumbo-gumbo (yes, I know it’s true mumbo-gumbo) about tides and how Reed is valuable as someone familiar with the area in addition to knowing where the incident happened. He convinces William not to shoot him, but Hynek knows that William will shoot Reed to silence him as soon as he gets what he wants. When they get to the docks, Hynek helps Reed escape on another boat.

Banks and Quinn go to Rebecca – and of course she’s under Quinn’s handsome spell! However, she seems to draw him only random shapes. I loved Quinn saying that he needed Hynek’s help to find Hynek based on the chicken scratch that he’s looking at! However, Quinn figures out on his own to stack the pictures and suddenly, he’s looking at the artifact!

Quinn won’t confirm to Banks that it’s the very thing that Hynek stole. Banks is furious – he’s put his own career on the line! – and Quinn finally admits it. Quinn calls the base and Mimi picks up. She’s put all the pieces together. She thinks it’s William and that it’s all about the artifact. But she’s also connected the dots to the 1947 incident near Maury Island AND the first sighting of the men in black! She tells Quinn and Banks where to go.

Meanwhile, on Reed’s boat we get a terrific scene with William and Hynek. Tracey is simply wonderful in this scene as we finally see the stoic, emotionless façade pulled away. William is incredulous that after everything that he’s shown Hynek, Hynek still doesn’t trust him. He tells Hynek that he was part of a remote viewing program. He had to “watch” while bombs were dropped during the war. He could see and feel what was happening to the victims. He’s clearly been severely traumatized by it and suffers from PTSD. William insists that no one will ever believe him, but they will believe Hynek – as Hynek has amply demonstrated in debunking so many incidents.

They reach the spot – which is helpfully marked by a glowing light from below. The divers go in, and Hynek is still the naysayer – no way to know it’s the spot, could be glowing algae, blah, blah, blah. And then the marine radio starts playing music – taking us right back to the very first episode and the fighter jet. The lights go out, the divers’ rope goes taunt, and the ship begins to be pulled over – and did anyone else immediately think of Jaws???!!! The rope breaks before Hynek can cut it, but one of the divers makes it to the surface – and he has some of the metal. He’s terrified and tells them the other diver is gone and to get out of there.

Hynek is skeptical, insisting it can all be explained by science. William tells him that his skepticism isn’t appreciated there, and the diver is furious.

As Banks and Quinn drive to Maury Island, we get a bit more background on how Banks ended up in intelligence when he started out as a marine. Naturally, there’s some fun air force vs marine banter here. Banks tells Quinn that he showed a talent for numbers and statistics when he helped his Commanding Officer win the baseball pool. He ended up getting sent into intelligence rather than combat in the war. Quinn, interestingly, insists that they shouldn’t fear what they don’t understand.

When they get to Maury, the Sheriff (Peter Graham-Gudreau) tries to disrespect Quinn at first – and Quinn, naturally, is having none of it! It turns out that Reed has made his way there and identifies Hynek. He says that he was with the men who kidnapped him but helped him escape. There’s a spotting of the men in black and they find the boat they used to come ashore.

Banks is starting to doubt Hynek. Why didn’t he escape with Reed? Hynek did steal classified information. But Quinn finds Hynek’s notebook stuck in the boat – there’s a note to Quinn with his coordinates. He knew Quinn would be hot on his tail! Quinn allays Banks doubts – Hynek is leading them to William.

The episode comes to an exciting climax with the standoff at the airstrip. Hynek wants to know where they’re going – and William tells him Antarctica! Of course, we saw him there at the end of last season. He seemed to be using the artifact to charge up and obelisk – maybe he needs more of the metal to power it up more for a stronger signal? William puts the metal in a case, but Hynek worries it will crash the plane as happened with the other artifact. William insists that it’s safe in the case. Is Hynek stalling?

Hynek wants to look at the metal, and William just wants him on the plane. He’s angry that he’s risked his life for Hynek because he just wants Hynek to believe. Hynek points out that it’s not what he believes that’s important but what he can actually prove.

Quinn and Banks arrive, and Quinn wants to go in shooting. Banks tells him that he’s not a cowboy – and doesn’t carry a gun everywhere! Banks goes in first, but naturally, it ends up in a gun standoff. William gets away – but not before Quinn shoots a bunch of holes in his very shiny plane.

The three take a commercial plane home. Hynek worries about what they should tell the Generals. Quinn insists that they should keep it strictly between the three of them. Banks tells them that the CIA will make it like it never happened. And that they are hunting William down. Hynek remarks that Banks and Quinn made a good team. When Banks goes for ice, Quinn tells Hynek that he had him worried. Hynek says that it’s all his fault and that he shouldn’t have let William take him in – he could be the one on the run. Quinn points out that he’s not. Hynek wants to know how Quinn found him…

And we cut to Mimi asleep on Hynek’s desk at the base. Quinn tells her that they couldn’t have found Hynek without her! Quinn gets a call and wants to talk to Hynek in private. Both Mimi and Hynek say no. William’s plane has crashed, but there’s no sign of him or the cargo.

And then the Generals finally make an appearance, showing up with boxes and boxes of files. The Robertson Panel has been announced and the CIA is putting the Air force on trial over Project Blue Book! Harding (Neal McDonough) tells them to read all of it and to make themselves bullet proof or Project Blue Book is dead! FYI – the Robertson Panel is another historical event – look it up!

This was another great episode. I love the story arc that they are giving Mimi this year. It’s too bad that the Susie (Ksenia Solo) storyline seems to have stalled. It’s really not what’s interesting this year at all. I’m loving the chemistry between Haynes and Malarkey. I was pretty sure that William couldn’t be killed that easily – and I’m looking forward to more terrific performances from Tracey. What did you think of the episode? Do you believe? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

This will be a double review for Project Blue Book – my apologies for missing last week! “Area 51” was written by Alex Wells and directed by Pete Travis. Wells moves up from staff writer to writer with this episode and is also wrote for Training Day. This episode takes us into that other famous American UFO site: Area 51! This episode appears to have our first alien abduction. There’s also a pattern in which it seems like some episodes confirm alien life and some are clearly based on hoaxes. This episode seems like it could be the real deal…

The episode begins – as usual – with the case file. A soldier is in the desert and is suddenly running for his life and gets hit with a bright light. He apparently blacks out and then comes to when a jeep comes to his rescue.

The episode is bookended by scenes at the drive-in. Mimi (Laura Mennell) and Hynek (Aidan Gillen) are watching a science fiction film and tearing it to pieces! It’s hilarious as they compare it to the cases we’ve already seen. I really love their dynamic this season as Hynek clearly respects and enjoys Mimi’s help and input, and she’s clearly thriving with the work.

They return home to find Valentine (Michael Harney) and Quinn (Michael Malarkey) waiting. There’s a missing soldier, but he’s on the part of the base run by the CIA – it’s so early in the CIA’s history that Hynek’s never even heard of them. Valentine warns them to play nicely as the new administration – Eisenhower’s administration – could dissolve Project Blue Book…

It’s also hilarious when Hynek and Quinn are dropped seemingly nowhere in the desert by helicopter. Neither knows where they are. Eventually, Daniel Banks (Jerod Haynes) shows up in a jeep to pick them up. I love Haynes’ character and I hope we see him a lot more this season! He is set to be recurring – and an ally for Hynek and Quinn. The show does a good job in introducing him in this episode. Unlike Quinn in his uniform and Hynek in his suit, Banks is casually dressed. He’s immediately friendly and says he’s happy to have them and their help because he’s read all their cases! Classified cases! But that’s what the CIA does – intelligence.

Banks chatters on about Las Vegas and Quinn remains silent in the backseat. Banks asks if Quinn is wondering how he got the job – is Quinn racist? Banks tells him that the CIA operates off the grid, so they need to be the person you don’t expect – and at the end of the day, he was the smartest guy for the job! It’s clear that Banks immediately sees Hynek as a kindred spirit and ally and sees Quinn as an Air Force guy – he’ll be harder to win over. Immediately demonstrating that he IS smart.

They have to stop at the edge to Area 51 for clearance to avoid being shot – the CIA has surveillance everywhere – which leads to Quinn later asking if it’s in the washrooms too. Banks says yes and Hynek is amused while Quinn isn’t.

When they arrive at the base, Banks tells them that the CIA wanted to handle it internally, but after hearing Willingham’s (Brendan Fletcher) story, they decided to call in the experts. As they arrive, a soldier hands Banks a bottle of alcohol. Quinn asks if it’s for a liquid lunch. Banks is mildly offended and says that’s not how he rolls. It’s an interesting remark from Quinn who seems to have no problem with Harding’s (Neal McDonough) drinking. In the end, the bottle is to give a glass – just one – to Willingham to steady his nerves. Willingham tells them about seeing Miller (Riun Garner) being sucked up into the ship and then blacking out.

Banks believes him, and Hynek insists that they need to see the site and take Willingham with them. Once out in the desert, Quinn suggests that the soldier just went AWOL, but Banks points out that with their security, soldiers don’t just go missing – which is an interesting point considering that Hynek and Quinn are later able to steal a jeep and take off into the desert, suggesting that they were allowed to go…
Hynek tells them that he wanted to bring Willingham back to the site in order to trigger a memory. Banks proves he’s smart – and a kindred spirit – by having read the research that Hynek refers to. He then confesses that neuroscience is a hobby of his. The best part of this scene is when he turns to Quinn and says, “I know. Handsome and well read. Something to shoot for Captain?” He’s clearly teasing him, but before Quinn can come up with an answer Willingham takes off and they find the site of the abduction when they find glass created by extreme heating of the sand. They are interrupted by jeeps arriving – they’re in restricted territory.
Quinn wants to see the restricted aircraft that the CIA have. Banks initially says no, but Quinn does his own teasing when he says he thought Banks was the kind of guy to bend the rules. Banks relents and says he’ll bend them – but not break them. Nothing he shows them had better end up in their files! Quinn’s first response is that none of the planes have weapons, and Banks tells them that the CIA is all about espionage and spying – not fighting. The find the flying wing from the “Lubbock Lights” and the stogey fits the bill for the wood sightings. There’s also a tail sitter. Quinn points out that they could explain all the sightings, but there’s no ship that has a downward facing engine to explain what caused the glass in the sand.

They are interrupted by Banks who takes them into the desert to see the body of Miller which has been found skewered in a tree. The coroner (Jay Hindle) shows them that the eyes have been removed and so has the tongue, sternum, one lung, heart and stomach. All of the arteries have been cauterized. Banks suggests a mountain lion and Hynek insists that the body had to have been dropped from above. They are interrupted by the arrival of the Air Force who take the body and Willingham, accusing him of murdering Miller!
Banks tells them that they’ve been ordered back to Ohio. He’s sorry he can’t help them, but he also tells them that in future, he’s on their side and he’ll help when he can. Hynek is furious and gets in a jeep – and of course, Quinn jumps in with him. The CIA had to let them go – let’s not forget the security. The CIA – Banks – had to have wanted them to go beyond the ridge, into Air Force territory, and come back to tell him what’s there. Hynek is determined to find an alternate theory to try to save Willingham – an innocent man.
The two do go beyond the ridge and discover men in hazmat suits picking up dead coyotes that look exactly like Miller’s dead body. They follow the truck to a secret base inside a cliff! Hynek takes pictures but naturally drops the camera. The two are chased by lights and suddenly appear in a beam of light. They wake up in the back of a military truck with seemingly no memory – but they do remember what was beyond the ridge. They are taken back to the base.
Valentine is waiting for them and is furious. Banks steps in to say that their not returning to Ohio is his fault. He asked them to investigate some celestial thing or other. Valentine tells them that Willingham confessed and that they are to stop trivializing Miller’s death with talk of “flying fucking saucers!” Once Valentine storms off, Banks tells them that Valentine had already told him about the confession and calls Valentine a “lying sack of shit.” He also tells them that he doesn’t like cover ups. Banks tells them that he’s never been beyond the ridge, and they tell him about the secret base – which they clearly remember. Banks now trusts them and offers them help when they need it in the future.
Mimi meanwhile tries to get some information at her group. Evan (Keir O’Donnell) tells her that the ship from Roswell was taken to Area 51, but eventually they discover that it’s actually right there in Ohio at the base. Evan tries to get Mimi to sneak into the hanger to investigate. She does eventually do some reconnaissance, but doesn’t get very far, and may even raise Faye’s (Jill Morrison) suspicions by asking about the unlabeled hangers on the base.
We don’t see much of Harding in this episode as he’s clearly having a dark night of the soul. Once again McDonough puts in a really terrific performance as we see just how tormented and conflicted Harding is. He goes to confession and there is a funny moment when he tells the Priest that they aren’t alone in the universe and the Priest is pleased thinking he means God. Harding ends up in tears and can’t even really explain what he’s seen. But it is pretty clear that Harding does believe.

When Harding comes out, Valentine is waiting in the church. He’s worried about Harding and it’s intimated that Harding had a similar breakdown after the first Roswell incident. Harding insists that he’s fine, so Valentine goes on to tell him that the CIA has Project Blue Book investigating a UFO. They agree that if Eisenhower is looking for a “favorite,” they need to force him to choose them.

It turns out that the way they are going to force him is with the Pentacle Memorandum – a faked alien invasion. If the enemy is right there, it’s no longer an intelligence operation – it’s war. And that’s something Harding understands and can get behind.

Finally, the episode circles back to the drive in. This time it’s Susie (Ksenia Solo) and she’s watching Shane – classic John Wayne, classic American Dream stuff. Is Quinn her hero? She’s there to meet Daria (Sofia Milos) who seems to be her new contact. She knows exactly what Susie’s been up to – and presumably can hold the murder over her. Susie tries to continue bargaining, saying that Quinn is a valuable new asset because Project Blue Book is clearly a cover for advanced weapons. Daria tells her that she wants her to kidnap Quinn! Photos and documents aren’t enough any more…

After the credits roll, we know get the facts that the episode is actually based on! I love this!

“Hopkinsville” was written by Harley Peyton and was directed by Pete Travis. Unlike the last episode, this one clearly turns out to be a hoax. I loved the way they teased the whole story out and how the threads dovetailed together. We start, as always, with the “sighting.” Jimmy Jay Shoemaker (Sandy Robson) is telling his family a ghost story. He scares them all and then goes out into the yard where he sees a UFO and then hears and sees “creatures.” He retreats to the farmhouse and then the whole family sees the creatures. They are armed and ready for battle…

Hynek gets the call in the middle of the night and somewhat brushes Mimi off, telling her to go back to sleep and that he’ll call from Kentucky when he knows something. Susie is at Quinn’s and about to drug and kidnap him when he is saved by the bell – and gets his own call.

Harding and Valentine plan to use this incident to put their plan in motion. I liked this scene as Harding talks chess moves and how the pawn is the soul of the game – Jimmy Jay is the pawn who will let them put their plan in motion. Valentine complains that he wishes Harding would just play golf like the rest of them. I thought this a very clever way of once again putting Harding in a separate category from the rest of the Generals. He enjoys games of the mind, but he’s also smarter and more of a thinker – he doesn’t blindly follow orders and he doesn’t blindly accept things, and things weigh on him in a different way.

We also learn later that he was also a boxer… we do know he loves a good fight. It’s Banks that brings it up, and like the drinking reference from the last episode, it nicely sets these two characters in opposition. Banks complains that Harding is a “south paw,” and that he always had the most difficulty with them in the ring as Banks is a boxer too.

When Quinn and Hynek arrive at the farmhouse, there are reporters and cops everywhere – it’s a ‘circus.’ They interview the Shoemakers and they all have a different story – just like any good horror/sci fi movie. They all saw something slightly different. When Quinn sees Jimmy Jay talking to a reporter, he interrupts and takes away the reporter’s notes – they have to keep a lid on it after all. The Shoemakers are all packed and leaving – the aliens came two nights in a row and they aren’t staying. Jimmy Jay tells Hynek and Quinn that they shot one of the creatures – it’s probably still out in the woods.

Quinn and Hynek go to investigate and end up finding a glowing handprint – with three, clawed fingers – on a tree. Hynek stops to call Mimi. She tells him that she’s met with her group and they are all calling it an invasion. Carolyn (Sidika Larbes) really pushes back against Mimi, essentially accusing her of helping with a government cover up. Hilariously, of course, the government is actually using them to expose their plan. Mimi also tells Alan that Banks has called. Hynek doesn’t really pay attention to her.

We get another nice scene between Hynek and Quinn as they have their dinner of bourbon and pretzels. Hynek asks about Quinn’s new woman. Quinn is surprised that Hynek has noticed, but tells him that it’s Susie. Hynek is surprised. Quinn confesses that he likes Susie “a lot.” Hynek tells Quinn that he and Mimi have been together for 15 years.

Hynek and Quinn hear something in the woods and then see a light in the farmhouse – it’s Banks! He tells them that the CIA has intelligence about an imminent alien invasion and reveals the presence of a secret CIA program on precognition. He reveals that Rebecca (Hayley McLaughlin), one of their subjects, has drawn a picture – and it matches the one the reporter drew based on Jimmy Jay’s account. Rebecca said that Hopkinsville was the center of the invasion and that Hynek and Quinn were the only ones who could stop it.

Banks takes Quinn and Hynek to a CIA testing facility in Washington where they meet with Rebecca. She will only speak to Quinn – which is interesting. She tells him that some people can block things – which is an interesting remark about Hynek. Meanwhile, Hynek asks about where Banks finds the people in the program – and wonders about the Fixer (Ian Tracey) – though he doesn’t tell Banks much about him. Quinn emerges with pictures of an invasion, and Hynek declares them no better than inkblot tests.

The two then follow up on the sample of the handprint that they took and discover that it’s not paint but glaze – and the clerk (Kareem Malcolm) tells them who they sell it to. Meanwhile, Quinn is confused as to why Hynek doesn’t believe Rebecca when he did believe the Fixer.

Feeling frustrated, Mimi suggests a road trip to Evan – and the two set off to Hopkinsville. They stop to ask for directions – and it’s hilarious that at first Evan – typical man! – doesn’t want to ask, and even when he does he just pisses the guy off. Mimi on the other hand gets the guy to open up by telling him that they aren’t reporters and don’t want to make the locals look foolish. He tells her that he’s known the family for a long time – and that they lie all the time. He tells them where to find Jimmy Jay.

They find Jimmy Jay at a cheap, hoaxy circus. They win him over by saying that they are with Ringling Brothers and want to hire him, but they need to see the evidence to convince people to come see him. Jimmy Jay says that Project Blue Book took all his evidence. Mimi assures Evan that Hynek would never help with a cover up.

And at that moment, Quinn and Hynek also arrive at the circus – the regular buyer of the glaze! Hynek is surprised but not angry to find Mimi there and asks her why she is there. She tells him that she’s helping with his research. I loved that he was more impressed than anything – and he says nothing about Evan. Mimi is the one to completely blow the case open because her father used to take her to the circus when she was young and she always loved the trained monkeys! They find little alien suits – just the size to dress monkeys up! They also find the glaze.

Then they see a convoy of CIA trucks arriving to stop the invasion and Hynek and Quinn run off to try and stop it. They find a hanger full of flying saucers – with Air Force markings. Harding is ready with another cover up story. Valentine asks if they closed the case, and Quinn answers yes. It was monkeys – which is hilarious.

Banks goes to see Harding and Valentine and has a copy of the Pentacle Memo. He knows that they are trying to impress the White House. Valentine asks him what he wants, and Banks tells them that he’ll let them know…

Meanwhile, Susie has a very, very bad day. Daria has her beaten and brought out to the woods because she failed to kidnap Quinn. We learn that Susie has a daughter – who she’s hidden – and that Daria and presumably other have used threats to her daughter to keep her in line. Daria tells her that she is going to find her daughter and turn her into a spy too – and then Susie is hit with a shovel and falls into the grave dug for her!

Of course, Susie isn’t dead. She hits the guy guarding her grave – which begs the question, why didn’t they check to make sure she was dead, and what was the guy waiting for anyway? Regardless, she drives over him as she leaves, presumably killing him and then lies in wait for Daria. Instead of killing Daria, she makes a deal to get back in her good books by telling her about Edward Rizzuto (Michael Imperioli) now being a double agent and saying that she will kill him – but she wants no more threats against her daughter. I have to say that I’m getting tired of this storyline and it seems to fit less and less into the main story.

When Quinn arrives home, Susie is in his bed – and she is remarkably completed unbruised. She startles, however, when he touches her and then jumps into his arms. It does appear that she has real feeling for him – but is it possible that rigid Captain Quinn would ever be able to forgive her for being a spy?

Finally, Hynek arrives home to find the Fixer waiting for him. He tells Hynek that Mimi and Joel aren’t there – his doing. He has a gun and Hynek is scared. The episode ends with the Fixer pistol whipping Hynek into unconsciousness.

And then we have the facts that this case was based on….

Two more great episodes. I really like how the relationship between Alan and Mimi is developing. I’m wondering if Harding will eventually end up being an ally. Banks is a great addition to the team. Lots of questions now too. Will Harding and Valentine give up their plan now that Banks knows? Seems inevitable. Does the Fixer mean harm to Hynek? Will Daria demand Quinn be delivered again? What did you think of the episodes? Do you like the new ending facts? I love them! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
