Today's Pitch Your Show edition focuses on shows H-L and includes the third and fourth most nominated shows, Leverage and The Librarians. Since Leverage is my favorite crime procedural of all time, I wholeheartedly agree with its pitches. The character growth in it alone should make it heavily sampled. However, if crime procedurals are not your thing, there are plenty of other shows to try from heartfelt Canadian dramas to historical fiction chronicling the rise of personal computers and modern medicine to the funniest zombie romp you'll ever watch and so much more. Here's hoping something catches your imagination. To keep the articles short and readable, all pitches were edited for length (less than 300 words), clarity, and grammar. I have also limited nominations to 3 per show with a few very popular shows having 4. I am truly sorry if your nomination is not in here. Know that I appreciate your time and pitches. Making the choice of what went in was difficult. After all sections are posted, I will include a link to the original spreadsheet so you can read them all in their entirety. Also, don’t forget to add your comments below. What shows do you recommend?

Milo – This show is just too good. If you've missed Mad Men, Halt and Catch Fire is the show for you, taking place in the 1980s and following the early rise in personal computers. Its four lead characters, played by Lee Pace, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy and Kerry Bische are all absolutely fantastic in their performances. The series itself is one of those that rewards people who stick with it, perfectly bingeable with one great season after another. The character relations are great and it shines a rare spotlight on women in the tech industry, putting its two female leads front and center to great success. The soundtrack too is among the best on television, with carefully curated Spotify playlists available for each of the lead characters. The drama is consistently brilliant and it's unmissable, essential television.

LauraLoo – If gore and horror is not your thing I totally understand if you want to skip out on this show. It’s certainly not for everyone, and even I had to take my time getting through the first season. But if you can look past all of that and appreciate its beauty and aesthetics, then you will adore this show. It takes these characters that you’ve probably seen in one way before and shapes them into new beings. The chemistry between Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham is palpable all throughout the series, and if you know how the show ends it makes perfect sense, even at the beginning of the show. The rest of the characters are all outstanding too. It’s a wonder how none of them ever won any Emmys. Each season is remarkably different, with later seasons scrapping that procedural format and turning full-on serialized. It seems to be widely regarded that the last two seasons were the better ones, but I really enjoyed the first season for what it was. So, if watching shows like Hannibal is your design, then you’ll simply salivate over this offering too.

Milo – Bryan Fuller is currently working on his excellent series American Gods, so what better time to discover (or revisit) the wonderfully twisted Hannibal, that ran for three seasons on NBC before finally being axed but not before delivering some of the most memorable and gory episodes of television that I've ever seen. Boasting plenty of style, the show takes the Hannibal Lecter character to new heights following a brilliant performance by Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy, with Mikkelsen delivering a near iconic performance as Lecter himself. This is one of those rare shows that's best not saved for binge-watching, rather savoring a few episodes at a time, as it's just so uniquely crafted, brilliantly executed, and wonderfully made. Give it a shot. Despite being cancelled, it does have an effective ending that leaves the series open for a possible fourth season. By the end, you'll be wondering how a show as messed up as this ever ended up on NBC in the first place.

Kewana – The procedural action of the show will draw you in and keep you guessing each episode, but the great characters and relationships keep you watching and in awe. There isn't another friendship out there like the one on this show. It’s funny, loving, and entertaining. Not to mention, there are beautiful scenic shots of Hawaii, a diverse cast, and lots of fun to watch.

Joy Haldar – First and foremost, you DO NOT need to watch the original to enjoy this reboot. This is an independent, strong show on its own rights by all accounts. Now in its 8th season, it's still going strong quality wise & ratings wise (one of the rare broadcast shows whose numbers went up year-to-year). The cast is a pure gem. They feel like family from get to. From the charismatic leader in Steve to his nagging, worrywart, hilarious partner Danny, who is also the best TV dad IMHO, to bada** female characters like Kono, Doris, Catherine, this show has got it all. There's also great diversity, which makes it even more special in my eyes. The thing that instantly clicked with me was the epic bromance between Steve and Danny. I am a sucker for that and this show delivered and how! It's truly on another level. Another thing I appreciate is that there's no unnecessary romance melodrama to slow down the narrative. Sure, there are cases of the week but that's not ALL this show is. The character interactions are the main focus here, not the cases they solve. They work as a team and they would walk through fire for one another if need be. They always have each other's backs. The gorgeous backdrop of Hawaii only adds to the narrative. The way the showrunner and writers incorporate this island's traditions and culture into the show is just awe-inspiring. If there was ever a perfect procedural, this is IT. It's got a lot of heart. In no time you will fall in love with the characters and for those who love action, you won't be let down either. High octane chase sequences and explosions make a deadly combo. It’s perfect Friday night entertainment.

Priscilla Starkey – It's the greatest crime show on tv with great stars like Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan.

Amberly – Heartland is a heartwarming family drama about a family that runs a ranch in Alberta, Canada. Based on a book series, the show begins with death of Amy’s mother, which leads to her older sister returning home to help run the ranch with their grandfather. One of the main functions of the ranch is working to heal troubled and/or abused horses. The show is quite feel good, never too dark or angsty, and it follows the family through their work with horses and other animals as well as changes in their personal lives (marriage, children, etc.) There are lots of good characters you connect with as well as lots of beautiful horses. The show is Canadian and has aired 10 seasons so far and was recently renewed for an eleventh. The early seasons also feature recurring roles played by Stephen Amell (Arrow) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black).

Chelsea Para – The longest running scripted one hour show in Canada, Heartland is a family friendly drama that has good writing, interesting characters, and beautiful scenery and horses. People of every age can enjoy what the show brings to the table each week. You don't even have to be "horsey" to enjoy the show since plenty of time is spent on the human storylines as well. For those that are going to watch for the horses, this show covers many different disciplines and horsemanship techniques, all of which are fun to watch, and it's easy to get attached to all the character horses.

Folielex – Based on a comic book, this show chronicles the story of Christopher Chance, a former hit man who, plagued by a tragic and blood-soaked past, now works as a for-hire bodyguard. He protects his clients by secretly infiltrating their lives in order to draw out and eliminate threats. Running point on the missions is Winston, a former cop. Also, Guerrero, a former colleague from Chance's old life, more often than not offers his unique set of skills to help out. The second season also saw the addition of Mrs. Isla Pucci, a rich, socialite philanthropist who started out as a client and ended up footing the bill for the company, and Ames, a street smart thief who joins the team. Portrayed by the wonderful Mark Valley, Christopher Chance has all the Jason Bourne moves with all the James Bond charisma and wraps that up with a fun cowboy attitude that just make the show a joy to watch. The supporting cast of Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Haley is stellar, especially when it's just those two playing off each other. Their chemistry and their characters' bickering make for some of the best moments the whole series has to offer. The ladies introduced in season 2 were a welcome addition to the fully male cast and added some interesting layers and dynamics to the show. Overall this was a FUN-tastic piece of popcorn-action TV, with some great character moments peppered in there. I honestly wish there was more than just 25 episodes. On a positive note, there are no major cliffhangers, simply a "the show goes on despite the curtain call" vibe. So, feel free dive into this world and not be left hanging, just simply yearning there was more.

Ellys Cartin - An unexpected delight this TV season, Inbar Lavi plays chameleon Maddie, a con artist who works with a team in the employ of a sinister type called The Doctor. Her act is making people fall in love with and marry her. Then she takes everything they have. Imposters picks up when two of her former husbands team up to track her down. Ezra and Richard couldn't be any different, which produces quite a bit of humor as they start to form a junior con artist team of their own. As for Maddie, Lavi is a revelation, spellbinding as she switches personalities and studies her marks. The first season combines romance, road trip comedy, soapy suspense, and cat/mouse interactions to create a first-rate guilty pleasure.

Ezio Auditore – This is a different take on the zombie genre that is fun and quirky. The series stars Medical Examiner Olivia 'Liv' Moore who is scratched and turns into a brain craving zombie the night of a yacht party. Now working as an ME for Seattle police, Liv discovers that she has the ability to gain the memories, personality and skills of the deceased person whose brain she eats, allowing her to help solve their murders. Working alongside her is her eccentric boss Ravi, and a detective, Clive. All while, Liv tries to keep the secret of zombies from her roommate lawyer Peyton and her ex-fiancée Major. As the series progresses Liv learns there are others like her and that not all of them are as friendly as she is. Also, the accident that turned her into a zombie may not have been an accident after all.

Milo – The CW's main comic adaption that isn't from a superhero source material, it offers the most unique approach on the zombie genre that I've seen and is just so much fun. Liv Moore is a M.D., who becomes a zombie after attending a party and wakes up with a thirst for brains that give her memories - and the personalities - of the deceased whose brains she has consumed. So naturally, she gets a job at the morgue and as a result, there's several new cases, each with different and often hilarious consequences. The cast have among the best chemistry that I've seen in any show, and Rose McIver's acting is excellent as she adopts a brand-new personality each week. Fans of other CW shows will find plenty to love here, and it rarely disappoints. Three seasons in and with a fourth on the way, iZombie is a rarity among zombie shows - it's actually entertaining!

Dahne – Simply put, this is the most pure fun show on The CW. While many of their shows get bogged down in angst and melodrama, iZombie is there to entertain with one of the fastest moving plots on TV. The story twists and turns, going places you never think it will, including a massive twist at the end of the third season which makes the fourth season the most anticipated yet. It’s a sci-fi, police procedural with highly serialized season-long arcs becoming more serialized as the series goes on. Best of all, it never gets boring because Liv, the main character, changes in each episode based on whatever brain she ate last. Rose McIver does an inspired job of adding the changing character elements but still keeping the heart of Liv the same. Plus, it has a great strictly platonic relationship between Liv and Ravi, her boss in the ME’s lab. The banter between the two is a lot of fun without the unnecessary “will they-won’t they” nonsense that hampers and ruins most procedurals. If you are looking for a great romp of a TV show, try this one out. Don’t let the zombie thing stop you, because this is unlike any other zombie show on TV.

Charlotte – I'll be honest, I expected very little from this comedy when I tried it out. It's made by Youtubers and is exclusively available on a minor streaming service. But oh boy, should you not judge this series by its cover. It's genuinely one of the funnier shows I've seen anywhere, bigwig networks included. Its genre of humor leans on the silly side. Think of a show led by Parks and Rec's Andy Dwyer. It's creative, fun, and easy to laugh with. What more could you ask?

Milo – Justified is far more than just your average crime show. Adapted from the work of Elmore Leonard, this six-season long series follows the adventures of US Marshall Raylan Givens, a certified bada** with a badge. The villains are among the best I've ever seen on television, with particularly standout performances by Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder as well as a spectacular role for Margo Martindale in the show's best season, its second. This show, hands down, has the best dialogue on television. Nothing else even comes close to matching its best lines. With one of the best finales ever, this crime show is a must watch, period. It's essentially a modern day western and always worth catching up on if you haven't seen it already.

Milo – Sadly cancelled after two seasons, Cinemax's The Knick is something that should not be overlooked as it is a pure gem and worth watching despite this. It's a medical show unlike any other medical show on television, taking place during the early years of medicine in early 1800’s New York. It's expertly directed and shot in a continuous way so that each scene perfectly transitions from the next, and its cinematography and direction is nothing short of superb, thanks in no small part to the involvement of the fantastic Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven) who directed every episode of Season 1. The soundtrack from Drive and Neon Demon composer Cliff Martinez is excellent, and the atmosphere is just brilliant. The cast is nothing short of exceptional too, with award-worthy performances by Clive Owen (Children of Men) and Andre Holland (Moonlight) in particular. It tackles issues such as racism, corruption and drug abuse all around the operating table, and still manages to maintain a large element of dark humor. It doesn't shy away from showing plenty of blood and guts though, so if you're squeamish, this is one to stay clear of!

Ellys Cartin – Before everyone decided to make military dramas again, TNT had already launched its thrilling, suspenseful The Last Ship. I love this show to pieces. It's rare for me to care about every character on a show, but these post-apocalyptic dramas always do it for me. The crew of the USS Nathan James thinks they are just on a normal off-the-grid mission, escorting a couple scientists on the side. But when they resume communications at the end of the mission, they discover the world as they knew it is gone, lost to a terrible plague and there's no time machine to fix it. There's no zombies either, though that's small comfort, especially when most of them have lost their entire families. Now they have a new mission: helping the scientists make a vaccine and then rebuilding the world from the ground up. Of course, whoever controls the vaccine will control the new world, so they face multiple enemies on land and at sea. This produces countless exciting action sequences. You don't want to miss Eric Dane as Captain Tom Chandler and Adam Baldwin as Captain Mike Slattery. I could go on and on about each character, including Special Forces team members Danny, Carlton, and, later on, Wolf. Just when you think the show can't get any better, it has its best season yet in season 3 when Bridget Regan joins the cast!

Ellys Cartin – If you had told me last year that Legends of Tomorrow would ditch all its season 1 baggage, bring in the best villain lineup ever, and become totally awesome for season 2, I would not have believed you but that's what happened. No need to watch season 1. The show brings you up to speed. Sara Lance, former deluxe assassin/recently resurrected bada** takes the captain's chair of the time ship Waverider, leading Firestorm, Atom, Vixen and historian Nate Heywood everywhere from the Jurassic Area to the Moon to Camelot to World War 1. Their mission is to work together to thwart the attempts of the Legion of Doom (so entertaining) to rewrite reality and find out where their former leader Rip Hunter has gotten to. Along the way, the show is just a ton of fun, with neat visual effects and costumes, as well as exciting action pieces. The show could only be more perfect if it had amazing character development and a strong villain....OH, WAIT, it has all that too! This is one so good you'll want to rewatch!!!

Ellys Cartin – Whether you won't watch a comic book show to save your life or your life revolves around comic book shows, Legion is not to be missed. David Haller lives in Clockworks Psychiatric Hospital, because supposedly voices in his head drove him to attempt suicide. His existence of pills and therapy sessions is disrupted by a newcomer, Syd Barrett. The quiet young woman doesn't let anyone touch her, but David is drawn to her and they become friends. Then the day comes for Syd to be released. Things go horribly wrong and those voices in David's head just might be pretty dangerous. Yes, Legion is connected to the X-Men universe. Yes, there are mutants but it doesn't follow the same old formula. Sinister backstory reveals itself to us, as David begins to understand what he's capable of, and the show uses creative, entrancing visuals to illustrate his journey. In addition to fine work from Dan Stevens as David, the supporting cast, especially Aubrey Plaza, present top-notch characters. You have to pay attention while watching Legion, but there's real payoff when you do. The whole story comes together wonderfully!

Milo – You want weird? You've got weird. Weird is pretty much the one word that most sums up Legion, the breakout new series of 2017. It's smart, clever and inventive, with nods to movies like A Clockwork Orange, and is far and away the most unique take on the X-Men universe yet. But then, given the nature of David Haller in the comics, anything less would have been a disappointment. Often confusing but always great, featuring an Emmy-worthy performances by Aubrey Plaza, Dan Stevens, and Rachel Keller, Legion is the must watch show of the year and with a great soundtrack to boot, it's one of this year's most unique shows and should not be ignored under any circumstances.

Darla – I got hooked on the show when it first aired. I have to admit, I checked it out for Christian Kane but stayed because of the whole cast. They found the perfect ensemble for Leverage without giving in to stereotypes. I enjoyed watching those loners turn into a family and how they used their criminal talents for good, helping people that nobody else would or could help. The stories were always realistic and never lost their humor despite being a con show. I still enjoy going back and regularly watching an episode, as for 40 minutes they make you believe that there are actually people out there that can make this unfair world right again for a little while. How ironic that it's a gang of thieves of all people. Yeah, sometimes the bad guys really do make the best good guys.

Emily Dickinson – Entertaining for the whole family! Amazing cast with great chemistry! Never a dull moment!

Mary E. Brewster – Why to watch Leverage? So many reasons. The premise of the show to begin with. There’s the Robinhoodlums, five different and distinctive personalities, that come together to help those who have been wronged and can’t go against the establishment (or person) on their own. They each bring their own sets of talents to the table – mastermind, grifter, hacker, thief, and hitter. Together they help those who can't help themselves because sometimes the best good guys are the bad guys. The scripts are sometimes taken from the headlines and brought to life with creative genius. I love how at the end of the episode it shows how each of the cons were pulled off, a mini re-cap of the episode. The action is in good proportion, not too much and not too little. The actors (Christian Kane, Aldis Hodge, Gina Bellman, Beth Riesgraf, Timothy Hutton) fit so well with their characters and worked so well together that it came across on the screen. The sets and locations were as well chosen as the cast. The whole show came together to create a wonderful hour of fun, exciting entertainment. The chemistry of the cast though is what makes the show magnificent and still well-loved. So Leverage is my recommendation!

Telisha – They are highly trained at doing bad things - hacking, beating people up, stealing, etc. - but they decide to take on the bad guys who use legal loopholes, money and power to continue to hurt people through drug trials that kill, companies that legally steal homes, and more. They go after the people the law can't and they do it as a family. The close-knit inner family really makes the show great.

Kathy Ares – The Librarians is a great family show, full of suspense, action, and magic. Everyone will enjoy it.

Clarike - Family-fun series with a hint of history that grows on you a little more every season!

Honorat – It’s fun for the whole family and doesn't take itself too seriously. There’s lots of variety in episodes and has great characters and actors. Smart and even occasionally educational, it can also have emotional and dramatic moments. Plus, it doesn't believe in cliff hanger season finales. Mixing up the stereotypes, the guardian colonel is a woman. The Asian character is a lovable rogue, the thief with a heart of gold who can't fight and is full of snark. The cowboy bar-fighting character is the art historian and linguist who loves literature. The girl in the cute clothes is the cutthroat scientist, non-neurotypical, and bi. The head librarian is charming and scatterbrained but a genius. John Laroquette--need I say more. It's a great ensemble cast.

Karen Wampler - It's a bit of action, a bit of comedy, and a whole lot of family friendly television!

Limitless: Netflix

LauraLoo – If you like any of the following you will enjoy this show: a wide variety of adorable and interesting characters, a stunningly layered and complex villain, a thoroughly relatable protagonist, a crime procedural that is so much more than just that, a serialized story arc surrounding a mythology that is routed in captivating sci-fi elements, a soundtrack and score that always plays the right songs in the right moments, a set of actors, actresses, writers, directors, and other creative cast and crew members who not just perform amazingly but have fun with the material they are creating, a show that gets better each week, a show that encompasses and transcends every genre you can think of? Limitless masked itself behind "your typical CBS police procedural", but proved week after week that it had so much more to offer. NZT-48 is a drug that allows you to access the full potential inside of you, and with that comes a lot of crazy scenarios and situations. If you dropped it after the pilot in fear that it would be unoriginal and boring, it is NOT. This show cared deeply about how it presented its cases of the week. Whether it was quirky animations or Brian's crazy NZT antics, the writers knew about the inherent stigma towards this genre and always strived to create a world beyond this, despite the serialized moments being the best part of every episode. If that's not enough, the two lead characters weren't involved in some forced romance. They remained friends and that friendship was excellent. This show knew how to have fun and serious, heartfelt moments. It was cancelled too soon, but fear not, it did not end on a cliffhanger.

Ellys Cartin - Lucifer was not what I expected. I started watching with the season 2 premiere, and it took my breath away. For one thing, the cast is amazing and the strong storytelling perfectly complements their talent. The cases of the week capture your attention, the screenwriting is peppered with smart humor, and almost no other show as thoughtfully or realistically handles spiritual questions like this one does. Every episode is super entertaining. Characters grow and change, you actually don't see the twists coming, and Tricia Helfer plays Lucifer's loving but scheming Mom! I can't help but watch it live, although all episodes are available on Hulu to binge...again and again.

Hey all,

The television powerhouse that is HBO's Game of Thrones kicks off its campaign today. This, off the top of my head, may well be the first time the show is still airing its season while the competition is running, which could give it an added boost. I suspect it is also now at the height of its popularity - though that isn't to say it won't grow even further before it concludes. But Teen Wolf, its competitor today, isn't exactly lacking in support around these parts. It too is currently airing new episodes - ironically, both on Sundays, the day on which their battle commences - of the final season and taking down Thrones would be a real statement of intent.

Prison Break, recently having concluded its revival and earned a surge in popularity doing so, opens its account against fan favourite Hannibal. This is tough to call. Hannibal certainly isn't short of supporters - vocal ones, at that - who would love little more than to see the Hannibal Lecter drama receive the same treatment as its opponent here and return for another season. But FOX's drama is fresher to air, and may well be able to capitalise on that. In any event, it should be an interesting tie.

Hey all,

Last year's runner-up, Hannibal, features first up today. Just as last year, the show isn't seeded and faces one of the top eight finished shows of the tournament; last year it was LOST, today it's Battlestar Galactica. Can the NBC drama make it to the final once again? Our other poll features two shows that both came to a conclusion earlier this year: Banshee and Agent Carter. Both made their debut in the competition last year, and both were knocked out in the second round. Only one can make it this year, but who will it be?

Hey all,

Going into the final, it had been an excellent, yet quiet month. There were a ridiculous amount of upsets across the various rounds, and though most polls didn't accumulate as many votes as we've been used to since the introduction of the social media logins, it's been fascinating to watch it all unfold. I said in my nominations post that this year was going to be bigger than ever before, and while that wasn't true in a votes sense, in terms of shock and overall enjoyment, I think I was right.

But more on that in a moment. You're all impatient to know who won. Well, assuming you haven't seen on the final's post. Anyway, our winner for 2015 is...

Having won both the Episode Competition and the Character Cup this year, Person of Interest has made it a clean sweep and claimed victory in SpoilerTV's premier summer competition. It does of course 'receive' our Series Competition trophy, as presented below.

As I mentioned above, there were far fewer votes this year than last. Only six polls this year surpassed 1,000 votes, compared to 31 polls last year that achieved that feat. The final, however, did manage to gain over 10,000 votes, only half of what we reached last year, but impressive nonetheless, especially when you consider it was the only poll to reach 2,000 or more.

I love a good stat. Last year I had so many stats I'm sure you all fell asleep reading them. This year, however, I have nothing more for you. DarkUFO, whom I rely on for a lot of things, usually provides me with pageview stats but he's busy with a house move, while I have run this competition in amidst a rather busy period for myself, and so I wasn't able to compile any voting stats beyond the above.

I do, however, have the updated list of show positions from all six competitions thus far. We've now had 144 different shows compete.

This is the second time I've run this competition and it's been great fun. We almost got through the whole competition with no feuds. That was until we got a couple of cheating accusations during the final, which were just uncalled for. Please remember that this is simply some fun and a way to pass the time until the fall season begins. It means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things and winning the polls will have absolutely no impact whatsoever on your show, and there's no need to be disrespectful. But otherwise, it's been an excellent competition and in the aftermath of the controversy that was the Character Cup final, I'm impressed at how well things have gone in the past month.

Aside from that, I have read through every comment posted throughout and I love how passionate everyone has been about their show. The comments sections are almost as important as the polls themselves because they are a platform for you as fans to say positive things about your show and perhaps convince some site visitors to watch it. Positive, enthusiastic comments are far, far better than negative, disrespectful ones.

A few thanks are in order. Firstly to Adam, whose real life commitments continue to prevent him from being able to run this competition. Also to DarkUFO who provides the platform for me to run this competition as well as for all of the excellent stuff he does behind the scenes on a regular basis.

But most importantly, I'd like to thank you - the fans. Without all of you taking part, this competition couldn't exist. SpoilerTV is "by the fans, for the fans" and that is entirely true of this competition.

Last year I mentioned that we could have a much more organised set of competitions in 2015. With the SpoilerTV Awards having picked up right at the end of the 2014-15 season, we've gone from that, into the Episode Competition, to the Character Cup and finally ending with the Series Competition. It's meant that we've had some sort of competition on the site virtually every day this hiatus, to try and ensure that you, the fans, don't have to think too much about the long period of time without your favourite shows.

That's over now, though. Tomorrow marks the return of the fall season which means that we'll have an onslaught of new and returning shows to watch. Of course, we'll have full coverage of the season here at SpoilerTV. Make sure you check out the Reviews page where you can find advance previews of upcoming premieres as well as reviews of new shows. There are a variety of other excellent features on the site too, including Scene of the Week and Quote of the Week, the Cancellation Predictor, Throwback Thursday and of course the SpoilerTV Podcast, on which I co-host. Our latest podcast is our big fall preview show, so make sure to check that out ahead of the new season. And there is so much more content here, so if you're new, take a look around and you will definitely find something of interest to you.

2015 saw our fourth different winner in Person of Interest, and a deserved one at that. The fans have been so loyal and so passionate from start to finish this summer. Will it be this successful next year? Who knows. For now, though, it reigns supreme and has set a new high bar for every other show to strive to achieve.

For now though, Namaste, and see you in 2016...

Hey all,

So, after some technical issues yesterday evening meant that my schedule wasn't going to fit a final ending on Friday evening, here we are today on Thursday evening as the final is here.

Our two finalists today are Hannibal and Person of Interest. The latter's participation in this final is hardly surprising, as POI has already won the Episode Competition and the Character Cup this summer. Hannibal, however, has gained traction after its cancellation by NBC and has surprised this year in how well it has done. I really cannot call this final, and that's just the way I like it.

The final will last 48 hours. A quick reminder to please remain civil in the comments. It goes without saying that there may be some of you not happy with this final pairing, or that could still be frustrated that one of these shows knocked out your favourite. However, please don't start attacking other fans or fangroups in the comments. We've had a really good competition for this so far - the absolute best of the five I've done. Assuming that the final is a close one, it can easily be exciting even for us neutrals, and there's no need to ruin that by making rude comments.

Speaking of neutrals, if you aren't fans of either show, leave a comment saying who you think will win, and who you'd have wanted to win this competition. Let's all enjoy this final.

Good luck to both sets of fans. May it be a nail-biting affair that goes on until the final minutes on Saturday. 48 hours...

A reminder of the rules:

1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly <strike>24</strike> 48 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round.
2) Vote for your favourite, spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) To vote, login with either your Facebook, Twitter or Google+ profile. If you don't want to use any of those, you can go direct to Opinion Stage and get an account to vote.
4) Comment on what you voted for on in the comments below.
5) Have fun. This is a friendly & competitive competition. Please do not start attacking other fans or fangroups in the comments, because this really isn't what this competition is about.

NOTE: The poll will close at 20:00 BST on Saturday 19th September

Hey all,

Yesterday, I posed the question of whether or not the out-of-nowhere success story In The Flesh could make it through the Quarter-Finals against three-time winner Supernatural. Though I didn't state it yesterday, despite the British zombie drama's success thus far, I had an expectation that Supernatural would progress. How wrong I was. In The Flesh received more than 100 votes more than its opponent to leave us with a final four containing no previous winners. We WILL have a new winner come Friday evening.

Today, it takes on Hannibal. On paper, Supernatural was a tougher task but this competition has suggested that the recently cancelled NBC drama more than has what it takes to win this competition. It beat Game of Thrones by nearly 900 votes yesterday and so In The Flesh will have its work cut out today.

The other Semi-Final taking place today sees Person of Interest, tipped by many (including myself) as favourite for this year's competition, face Major Crimes. The TNT drama's success isn't quite as surprising as that of In The Flesh, with it gathering a large amount of votes at the nomination stage, but I'm still impressed by its progression to this stage. This could be a very, very interesting tie.

Hey all,

After 28 days, we're down to the last eight in this year's competition. And boy, is it intriguing. Only four from the 16 seeds that began the competition remain today - Game of Thrones, Person of Interest, Buffy and Supernatural.

The third round saw a few big names go out, not the least of which was Arrow and one-time winner Castle. Seeded shows Dominion and FRIENDS (Arrow and Castle were not seeded) also suffered defeat.

The biggest story of the competition thus far is the success of In The Flesh. The British show has taken out NCIS, The Musketeers and Sherlock so far, but faces its toughest task yet as it takes on three-time winner Supernatural today. Could this match signal the end of the fairytale? Only the next 24 hours will tell.

In what is arguably the most exciting match-up of the day, Game of Thrones faces Hannibal. Both shows are well loved here, though Hannibal has gained a fair amount of traction since its cancellation, and it took out Arrow in the previous round.

It's a clash of two seeded shows as Person of Interest takes on Buffy. The CBS drama is looking to secure its third SpoilerTV competition triumph of the summer and it should be very interesting to see how it fares against Buffy today, which took out another popular show - Dominion - in the third round.

Our final poll of the quarter-finals sees Charmed up against Major Crimes. The fanbase for the TNT procedural seems to be growing by the second here at SpoilerTV and it's already beaten Once Upon a Time, The 100 and FRIENDS to make it to this stage. Its opponent, Charmed, has already taken out the defending champion Outlander this year, as well as the much-loved Agents of SHIELD in the last round.

Normally, I'd look at these eight contenders and only see four shows with a real chance of winning. But given how well all of the quarter-finalists have performed and the unpredictability of this competition, particularly this year, I'll open that pool out to all eight contenders. I have no idea who will emerge as victor by the end of the week, and I can't wait to see who it is.

A reminder of the rules:

1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round.
2) Vote for your favourite, spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) To vote, login with either your Facebook, Twitter or Google+ profile. If you don't want to use any of those, you can go direct to Opinion Stage and get an account to vote.

Gillian Anderson had a great panel at Fan Expo. Sadly, my tech failed me again, so I don’t have video to share with you. What follows is a fairly faithful – but not quite word for word account. She was clearly in good spirits, having just wrapped The X-Files. She arrived with an X-Files hat signed by herself, David Duchovny, and Chris Carter that she auctioned off for charity at the end of the panel, netting $1000 for the charity.

Teddy: Can you take us back to first getting the role of Scully in 2003?

Gillian: 1993…

Teddy: It ended in 2003.

Gillian: In 1993, I don’t think you were born yet. I remember I was in flannel pajamas when I read the episode and the walls were line green – not my choice – and I wasn’t in the habit of auditioning for tv. It was the second thing that I auditioned for, I might be lying, I can’t quite remember, but the first thing I did a guest role on a thing called Class of '96, which lasted for a few minutes, and that’s the only other tv thing that I’d done. Oddly, in that, there was a plot point that that my character was reading Moby Dick. Did anybody see that episode? No. But in that, my character is reading Moby Dick which, of course, becomes a plot point in The X-Files.

So back to the flannel pajamas. I was just going in for an audition. That’s what it was. And then it turned into being asked back and then it turned into being asked to Network, which I’d never done before, which is a terrifying experience, for every actor to sit in a hallway with the other actors who are auditioning for the same role. And you are released when they want you to be released. So you get called in, somebody else gets called in, they come out with a smile on their face, you think she got it… and you’re there for hours.

And apparently, the story goes that Chris wanted me that first day for Scully. The network did not. (groaning) I know! Poor me, poor me. (joking - laughter) So I went away and didn’t have a job and quite a few days later, it wasn’t immediate, I was called back for my second network appearance. They had flown in other actresses from New York. Who I knew from New York because I’d just moved to LA from New York who I used to go and audition for theater with. Cynthia Nixon and Jill Hennessey and all these girls that I knew, and obviously later, went on to do extraordinary things, but they were all sitting in the hallway with me, auditioning. I was driving my boyfriend’s white convertible Mustang at the time and before I left after the second audition, the casting director pulled me over to the side very naughtily and told me that I had the job. But I’d already offered to give Jill a ride back to her hotel. That was a very uncomfortable ride. So how do you think it went? I don’t know… (laughter) fingers crossed… (laughter)

Did I even answer the question? I have a tendency to run off at the mouth… most of the time I don’t even make sense.

*There was a question from the floor, but Gillian was distracted by what the questioner was wearing – she was dressed as what we’re supposed to wear in 2015, according to Back to the Future 2.

Gillian: I was so excited to show my little boys – 6 and 8 – Back to the Future 1 and then I put in 2 and I was like, no, no, no! So inappropriate! Three is alright, but 2…. Do you have a hover board? (she asked her to turn around to see her whole outfit)

*Do you personally think that Scully was abducted or was it the government?

Gillian: She had been abducted by the government? (shrugs her shoulders) We might find out in season ten. Might. Does anyone have a glasses cleaner thing? My skirt isn’t doing the job. I can’t see a thing and they’re filthy! (several people come up to stage to help her out) My boys used to be obsessed with these things. They used to want to sleep with them like mini-blankets. They had a name for them. They called them squinchies or something…. One of them at age 2 made up a name and they became obsessed with them… anyway that’s completely beside the point. Do we have another question?

*The X-Files started airing in South Africa when I was 13 and it was the first time there was a strong, independent woman…

Gillian: In the entire universe…

*Yes (laughter). Dana Scully inspired me to become a scientist.

Gillian: Cool. Congratulations. Do you do that for a living now? What area are you in?

*Molecular biology and space (didn’t catch it).

Gillian: Hot damn! I bet you get paid a shitload for that! (laughter)

*The show was incredibly scientifically accurate…

Gillian: It’s just because my education was so good they always just came to me to say Gillian, is this right? Does this look right to you?

*Were you given scientific research by Chris Carter or the writers?

Gillian: No. They hire very, very smart people for that kind of stuff. We’ve usually got scientists and people in medicine. There’s a lot to do with hospitals in season ten. So there’s a lot of medical jargon and a lot of doctors standing around to tell us what the heck we’re doing. I’ve never said heck in my life.

Teddy: How gratifying is it for you when young women come up and say you inspired them to get into their fields?

Gillian: It’s not me. It’s Chris Carter who had the foresight and the genius to come up with this character at this particular time when there was such a need for it. I could do that well, and that’s what I often get hired for often, to play the smart woman or the boss. But my brain is very small. (laughter) There are other things that are big…

*You did a video for Cheetah conservation. How did you get interested in the project?

Gillian: A friend of mine who is a fashion photographer, in his spare time, he takes photos of cats. He’s obsessed with big cats. He travels around the world and met her and this organization. It’s an incredible organization and they’ve brought a particular kind of wild dogs from Australia who are good at reining in the cheetahs, so they stay in particular areas, encouraging poachers not to kill them because they’re going on to the farms. They’ve created this system that actually helps the farmers and helps the cheetahs to stay alive. He asked if I would meet her, and she asked if I would do a video, and I said yes, and that’s how that happened!

*Do you think that Stella and Scully would make good partners?

Gillian: You know, somebody asked me that at another comic con about whether they would hang out, and I thought that maybe Stella would have a few things to teach Scully about drinking. But partners as in life partners or working partners?

*Whichever one you want.

Gillian: They actually might make good life partners. I hadn’t thought about that before. I want to see somebody doing an After Dark sketch of Scully and Stella. Do you know about this site? David just introduced me to the site. That’s all I’m going to say. There was a very hot picture of Mulder and Scully After Dark.

*If they were to do musical episodes of The Fall, X-Files, and Hannibal, what song do you think each of your characters would sing and why?

Gillian: If there was a musical version of The X-Files, Scully would sing “Jeremiah Was a Bullfrong.” Because that’s all she can sing. If Bedelia was to sing… Jesus Christ, what would she sing? “Let’s Get This Party Started” – yeah, let’s see Bedelia sing Pink’s “Let’s Get This Party Started” and then Hannibal could come in and do some dance moves. Stella. Any suggestions? (an hilarious exchange during which a guy tries to shout out a song and can’t be understood)

*Which one of your characters would you like to meet?

Gillian: Good questions today! Um. Maybe Miss Havisham from Great Expectations. It would be kind of fascinating to meet her and really weird.

*How do you feel about being such a strong, independent woman in The X-Files?

Gillian: Good question. I feel pretty cool about it actually. How old are you?

*12.

Gillian: Well, in the olden days (laughter), in 1993 when this started, there weren’t really any strong independent women on television. And I’m serious. I’m not exaggerating, there weren’t. So there was Baywatch, do you know what Baywatch is? What else was there at that time? It was slim pickings… (the crowd shouts out Murphy Brown and Designing Women). Oh… then I’m wrong. But there weren’t that many and there are today. So I think that women at the time appreciated that and were like I see someone that I actually recognize because I don’t usually look like that in a bikini. And so, it started a trend and I feel very proud and grateful to have been one of the first strong independent female characters on television and have since then been cast as strong independent women and sometimes stronger and more independent characters than Scully was. And it’s pretty cool to be a part of that trend. Thank you. Pretty strong independent female to get up in front of 8000 people to ask the question.

*You brought a lot to the role. In the beginning Scully was walking behind Mulder and you were instrumental in bringing her up beside him. Do you think there would be a Stella Gibson on today if it wasn’t for the Scully-effect?

Gillian: That’s a good question. I don’t know. I’d have to imagine that at some point somebody else would have done it along the way. Somebody would have seen the gap and the need. So it’s possible, but I can definitely see the trajectory there. But also Alan the writer of The Fall, which is where Stella Gibson resides, wrote that with me in mind and had I not done The X-Files, he probably wouldn’t have written it with me in mind, so I guess the answer would be no.

*Shouted from the crowd – Could you bring Streetcar Named Desire to Toronto?

Gillian: Aw. New York’s not that far from Toronto. I know that for a fact in my small brain. And there are still tickets available. So please come.

*Who was responsible for bringing The X-Files back, and what was it like when you found out, and what was it like going back there after so many years?

Gillian: Well, it wasn’t like they said it’s coming back and you’re coming with us, and I went oh, okay. It was kind of like they said we’re thinking about this. And my reaction was oh, what a bad idea. Initially, because my experience of doing The X-Files as doing 24 episodes which in my current life, living in the UK with 3 children is not a do-able thing. In those days, that took us 9 and half months a year, and this year, our episodes took longer to shoot individually. So we did 6 episodes in three months.

So my initial reaction, because I was doing a lot of tv at the time and I like to shake it up and do theater and film. And then when they said it could be a small amount, and that’s the time when we were starting to talk about, it was at the very beginning of networks, like Fox, opening their minds to the idea of doing shorter amounts. Even at the time when I was doing Crisis on NBC that was 12 or 13 and that was quite a big leap for them to make to just do 12 or 13 at a time. And that was only a couple of years ago. It’s a whole new idea for networks to do short stacks. And it wasn’t until they could agree to do that that either David or I could commit to it.

Teddy: This mini-series that we’re going to get is it one story in the sense of one continuous arc?

Gillian: It is not. It’s exactly what you used to get. There is a couple of comedic episodes. There is a couple of monster of the week episodes. And there are a couple of mythology episodes.

Teddy: Were you happy about that that it was going to retain the DNA of the original series?

Gillian: Extremely. At the beginning, I was thinking what is it that we’re putting out here? Because we were at the forefront of new tv back then and it was the first series that was lit by flashlight… we were a lot of firsts, having that much money up on the screen. Those big production values up on the screen. We were the beginning of that. So did that mean what was expected of us was to come back and match that and basically be the new version of how tv should be today? So when the first episode wasn’t that, my first reaction was… man, is this enough? And then, the expert in all things, Simon Pegg, said to me, what they want is exactly what they got to begin with. It’s like comfort food. They want what you originally gave them and that will be enough. And that’s what you’re gonna get. (cheers) And I think in all respects, so I think, hopefully, you guys will be happy.

*Everyone knows that your favorite episode of X-Files is “Bad Blood”…

Gillian: Can I tell you something? Sorry to interrupt. Oh, get it out cause I’m sure you’re nervous to ask the question, and I’ll interrupt later.

*I was wondering if you’re familiar with the Taylor Swift song, “Bad Blood,” and if you think it’s worthy of sharing the same title as your favorite episode.

Gillian: I don’t know that song, but would anyone like to sing it for me? (a group in the song start singing the song – pretty well too!) But no. Because it’s not really appropriate for the episode. It needs to be Shaft! That needs to be the soundtrack.

So, I watched it again recently because I thought I keep leaving my kids in London to go shoot this thing in Vancouver and they have no idea what it is that I’m doing. So I thought what episode can I show them that is even remotely appropriate – in any way shape or form for almost 7 and 9 year old, and I thought, ironically, that “Bad Blood” would be good. Nightmares for a fucking week. (laughter) That kid with the green eyes! And my six year old, every time my 8 year old turned the corner he’d be like (makes monster face and hands). And that whole thing where he jumped across the bed like a squirrel? Oh my God! So now that, I’ve literally tormented them. They are not a fan of The X-Files. It’ll be like 21 and 24 by the time they watch the series again. It completely backfired. Oh my God and they would not shut up and of course they told their dad… so a nightmare.

Teddy: Still your favorite episode?

Gillian: Still my favorite. I mean Luke Wilson!

*Have the strong feminist characters you’ve played, mainly Stella Gibson, influenced how you characterize Blanche?

Gillian: Not necessarily. I wanted to do Blanche since I was 16 years old, so it was very much a dream come true after 30 years of knowing that I wanted to play her. As much as I felt like I resonated with her inside, I never actually studied her or studied the play before, so when we started rehearsals for that it was important to me that I let go of all my preconceptions about who she was and what the play should be etc. There’s only one thing that I, well two things, that I really cared about when we were putting the production together and one was that it be in the round and that it be in the summertime because I wanted the audience to feel the heat that we would feel in New Orleans, and believe me, both of those things happened.

So, in starting a hundred percent from scratch, as much as one can, really let the director educate me, and all of us, about the play and history and the characters and the family and the climate at the time, the political climate, the social climate, the genius of Tennessee Williams and the threads that he weaves with his material, and I feel like she was very much born out of a new idea not necessarily influenced by… but by the same token, I am a feminist and I can’t not inject an aspect of that into my version of her, but I don’t think that I ever sat on the outside and thought this is how it needs to be because in the past she was portrayed in a different way. It was very much an organic and pure path to find her.

Teddy: Just a quick follow up to that, I read that you really love punk, and I always wanted to ask you if your interest in punk and that genre of music informed your ethos and your feminism and kind of what you brought to roles as an actor.

Gillian: I have an inbuilt intolerance for hypocrisy. And there is an element of that in anarchy and in the punk movement and there is an element of that in feminism. Feminism is just people’s desire for equality whether it’s race equality or female equality or pay equality, whatever the fuck it is, it’s about the intolerance for what should not be going on in the moment. And I think that’s a lot of what the current feminist movement is about. It’s like enough already, we’ve been talking about this for so fucking long. We’ve gotta do some things, get things done. I talk about it when I’m asked about it. I don’t preach about it. I talk about it when specifically in relation to Stella because a lot of the journalists want to address that issue. It’s a human issue. Equality on this planet. Whether your aboriginals in Brazil fighting for your piece of forest or whatever it is. It’s important and vital to humanity’s existing on this planet as one, as a human race. I feel strongly about that. Clearly. (applause)

*What’s it like working with Jamie Dornan?

Gillian: Who? (laughter) Jaime is an incredibly lovely, sweet, hysterically funny guy. He’s great to hang around with, he’s great to hang around off set. We didn’t, as you know, having watched The Fall, have a lot of opportunity to do that, but we’ve spent time together doing press, and the scenes that we did do, and going out for drinks and stuff. He’s just a lovely, lovely guy, you’ll be happy to know. And he has a really good singing voice, which a lot people don’t know… and the women go, “oh” and the guys go, “grrr – that too!” (laughter) But he does!

*Which place has impacted you the most?

Gillian: I would say, impacted, either Africa or India. I spent a lot of time in both places not just filming. And they both get under your skin in very, very different ways. I’m about to do another film in India in a couple weeks, and I’m excited to be impacted by a culture and by a country and to learn something new about another place in the world. Have you ever been to either of those places? Because people say when they go to Africa that it often they say it gets under your skin and you never forget it and there’s a truism there. And I don’t know what that is but I also feel like when one is truly exposed to how the majority of the world lives and the majority of the world lives very differently than the way we live in North America, and any time one is actually truly exposed to that it can’t help but impact one’s life experience and how you see the world.

*How do you prepare yourself for such a raw and emotional performance like playing Blanche? And will your performance change in front of a New York audience?

Gillian: I won’t change my performance at all. We had about four weeks to rehearse, which is not a long time for a 3 and half hour play. And also for a complex character like that. It was down to partly my passion for it but also the genius of our director that we worked with, Benedict Andrews is just probably one of the best directors I’ve ever worked with in how he just takes us through the study of the material and the characters. And it’s quite daunting at the beginning as it is with anything in life when you start something new and you know you’re putting yourself out there. And as much as I’ve always want to play Blanche my whole life, I was absolutely terrified of it, and I have experienced panic attacks in my life and on stage and assumed that that would also be the case with this production. And by the grace of God it wasn’t, and I don’t know why that was, but hopefully, that will be the same when I’m in New York. (looks for wood to knock on!)

And so with anything, even this project that I’m about to jump into, playing an historical character, it’s really important for me to do the work in advance, to feel like I’ve shown up for myself, shown up for the character, that I have it in every cell of my body, and when I feel that, I have done that work, then I feel safe, I feel, obviously, more confident, and trusting of my choices. But also with anything there is fear. The first couple of days on any job I find really difficult, no matter even with The X-Files. The first couple of days for me are a certain Hell. And I don’t necessarily know that I am the character in those two days even if I’ve been working on it or played it for a decade. It takes me a little while to assimilate, so I have to imagine on one level, even though it’s magnified by being in the public realm that’s a lot of people’s experience of new things. That new things change, putting oneself out there in the world is really a scary thing, and what I have learned over the years is that by doing it anyway that I have survived those things. I’ve thought I would die. I haven’t died. I thought I would fail. I haven’t failed. My version of failed can come in many different ways, but the fact that I have shown myself that I can show up and do things has taught me the next time I want to show up and do things that I can and I think that is really important.

And part of that came from, my Mom told me that even as a child, there was no telling me what to do. That literally, I was the boss of the household. And, you know, she’s right. (laughs) I’m sure that gumption and sass has a lot to do with it but also I got an aspect of that from her. It’s a good thing to pass on to our children, especially to our daughters, I think.

*Thank you for your confident outspoken-ness in regards to feminism and how unapologetic you are about it. It means a lot. What would your interpretation be of Bedelia and Hannibal’s relationship when they were on the run in Florence?

Gillian: What would be my interpretation of it? My interpretation is very much what you see on the screen which is that there was in fact… that they were an electric couple. It is duplicitous, it is disturbing. There is a great deal of free-floating fear. There is attraction and sensuality and potentially sexuality there on some level whether it’s in a kiss or a promise or whatever it is. I imagine that they probably had separate bedrooms, but the fact that they had the intimacy that they had which was pretty intense, especially under the circumstances, was… I don’t know. It had a dangerous energy to it. It filled in so many of the blanks and question marks just by the fact that she stayed and he let her stay.

You don’t have a mike to ask me a question. That might have been done on purpose. (someone yells from the crowd – what about the last scene?) What about the last scene? What did you see? You saw Bedelia sitting at the end of the table with a… a what on the table? A leg. And what makes you think I was eating it? I… she was waiting for a guest… Three chairs… Did she cook it herself – all good questions… So, at some point she reached for something. (a fork) to do what with? (unintelligible) Maybe. Did she look comfortable? Did she look happy? Did she look like she was looking forward to the meal or what was going to happen next? All good questions. But I will tell you one thing. The fork was not to eat the leg. But hopefully, I hear they’re investigating other ways for it to be seen. (cheers)

And then she auctioned off the hat which was hysterical and a lot of fun for those who stuck around.

Hey all,

So, the third round commences today and we've had some really big names go out in the second round. Including the show that came into this year's competition as reigning champion.

Yes, Outlander crashed out at the hands of Charmed. Given how popular the show has been and the fact that it won last year, having come out of nowhere, this is huge and its exit has blown the competition wide open. We lost plenty more shows in round two as well. Fringe suffered defeat to Chuck. Though Arrow didn't go out, Merlin was three votes from defeating the CW show - I expected that to be a walkover for Arrow. The Musketeers lost to In The Flesh, in another result that saw a mostly unknown show come from nowhere. Agent Carter, semi-finalist in the Character Cup, was defeated by Sherlock. Then, yesterday, The 100 crashed out at the hands of Major Crimes, while The Flash lost to FRIENDS.

Five more seeded shows went out last round. It has been a bloodbath so far this competition and with just over a week left, I'm expecting much more of the same.

So, without further ado, let's get into today's polls!

A reminder of the rules:

Hey all,

Today's opening polls sees fan-favourite Arrow, which took out Beauty and the Beast in the first round, face Merlin, which beat Sons of Anarchy. While the British show is well-loved, I'd expect it to be on the receiving end of a mauling today. Our other poll today sees Hannibal, having progressed past LOST in the first round, face White Collar, which knocked out Alias.
