Welcome to Day 3 of our pitches. Pitches from previous days are linked below. Again, thank you to everyone who helped with the pitches. To keep articles shorter and more readable, all pitches were edited for length, clarity, and grammar. Nominations were also limited to 3 per show with a couple very popular shows having more. I am truly sorry if your nomination is not in here. Know that I appreciate your time and pitches. Making the choice of what went in was difficult. After all sections are posted, I will include a link to the original spreadsheet so you can read them all in their unedited entirety.
Danny Phantom - CBS All Access, Hulu
- 3 seasons, 53 episodes

1. The North Remembers - I never thought much of this show given it was created by Buch Hartman. His other show is not one I’m particularly fond of so Danny Phantom was a pleasant surprise. Danny Fenton, a timid, outcast 14-year-old boy and son to the world’s leading ghost hunting expert, suffers an accident when he activates his parent’s latest invention - a portal to the ghost realm. The accident alters his body, granting him ghost-like powers of flight, invisibility, enhanced strength, and speed. He uses his new abilities to keep his home of Amity Park safe as the spectral superhero Danny Phantom. Most of the series revolves around Danny fighting ghostly enemies alongside his best friends: technology obsessed expert Tucker and Sam, a no-nonsense environmental-loving goth who speaks her mind despite what others think. Danny struggles to control his powers while also dealing with the trials of being a teenager. In addition, Danny has to contend with his city’s perception of his alter ego, going from a misunderstood menace to an eventual hero. This is a very campy comfort show with action, humor, character development, and pop culture nods.
Derry Girls - Netflix
-2 seasons, 12 episodes

1. ??? - The closest comparison I've heard to this show is It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia but I think of it as the Irish Seinfeld, only with way funnier one-liners. The basic premise is about 4 teenage girls growing up in Northern Ireland during The Troubles, but this is a comedy and a hilarious one at that. Erin, Michelle, Orla, Claire and Michelle's wee English fella cousin James may be living in a territory ruled by political conflict, but to be honest, their everyday lives as Irish teenagers attending Catholic school are full of so much more drama. This show is hilarious, irreverent (very, very irreverent), goofy, and even touching at times; it's based on the real life experiences of creator Lisa Derry, who wrote for the original Being Human. Trust me when I say Sister Michael's quips alone are well worth the price of admission.
The Deuce - HBO
-3 seasons, 25 episodes

1. The North Remembers - After his success with The Wire, David Simon teams up again with HBO to create another gripping on-the-street crime series. James Franco stars in a dual role as twin brothers who see the rise of the porn industry and the gentrification of New York. Set in the 1970’s when crime, violence, drugs, extortion, and mob influence run rampant in the Big Apple, two brothers, one a small bar owner and the other an excessive gambler, both are suddenly roped in to work for the mob against their will. Teaming up with an ambitious street worker (Maggie Gyllenhaal) who seeks to take advantage of the new legitimate porn industry, the three struggle to make stable lives for themselves, facing off against mobsters, pimps, and corrupt cops - all of them trying to keep the status quo of New York streets from changing.
Devs - Hulu
-1 season, 8 episodes

1. Start_wearing_purple - Devs is an eight-episode, sci-fi miniseries that does what all great sci-fi does; it makes you question reality. After Lily’s boyfriend Sergei goes missing the day he starts working on the mysterious Devs project, she begins to investigate and in doing so, turns her world upside down. All roads lead back to Devs but what is Devs? In order to find out, Lily has to question everyone around her including herself. The ultimate theme of the story is determinism versus free will. Do we ever have control over our own actions? Nick Offerman and Alison Pill put out A+ performances in this masterpiece. Offerman plays Forest, a tech savant with deep emotional scars, determined to find an answer to the central tragedy of his life. Pill plays Katie, an engineer and pretty much zealous believer in determinism. While not a unique theme, the story itself is one of a kind. It is a refreshing reminder that good sci-fi is still out there and can still grab you.
Dietland -
-1 season, 10 episodes

1. Luana - This show is not for everyone; if you're against feminism and body positivity, you should definitely steer clear. It took me a while to check it out but once I started, I couldn't stop. The protagonist writes the email responses for a teen magazine, and her boss is played by Julianna Margulies. It all seems pretty straight forward in some ways until an uprising starts and everything gets crazier from there. These are strange times but it's been a while since I watched a whole season pretty much without pause. This show is funny, incisive, and thrilling. It will leave you reeling, and though there's just one season and having more would've been great, it has an acceptable ending and it's absolutely still worth watching.
Digimon - Hulu
-4 seasons, 205 episodes

1. The North Remembers - I always tend to see this as the antithesis to the Pokemon franchise. The show follows Tai Kamiya and his six friends at summer camp when they are suddenly whisked away to the Digital World, a vast land where everything, even the kids themselves, are composed of computer data. There they are greeted by their Digital Monsters ‘Digimon’ partners. The gang and their partner Digimon then set out for a way to send the kids home, as they travel the treacherous lands of the Digital World and encounter the countless evil Digimon who seek to destroy them. While there have been multiple iterations of the franchise, fans universally agree the first two seasons are the main story as they focus on that particular group of characters. The franchise was so popular that a series of movies have been released recently, several years after the show ended, which follow Tai and his friends from their older teen years to young adulthood. What makes the show different from Pokemon is that Digimon are sentient. They talk like people and are as memorable, with colourful personalities and character depth, as their human companions.
Disenchantment - Netflix
-2 seasons, 20 episodes

1. The North Remembers - From Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, Disenchantment is a rambunctious fantasy series of a kingdom run by a not-so-typical princess. Princess Bean is the heir to the kingdom of Dreamland; however, her headstrong and rebellious nature makes her unsatisfied with the traditional norms expected of her. Rather than going through with an arranged marriage to a neighbouring prince or managing the affairs of her people, Bean would rather live a life of hard drinking, fighting, and raising hell. Teaming up with a demon equally as troublesome as Bean herself and an innocent, kindhearted elf longing to see the world outside the elf realm, the three misfits embark on a journey of self discovery, battling against evil wizards, ferocious monsters, and corrupt rulers.
Dispatches from Elsewhere - AMC
-1 season, 10 episodes

1. Lou - To say this show is hard to explain may well be an understatement. Basically, four strangers meet playing a puzzle game which requires them to find clues across Philadelphia. However, the show is much more than this. It’s an exploration of loneliness and finding friends, how art and creativity can be overtaken by corporations and destroyed, finding your true self, and facing your fears. This is a show that will either grab the viewer or leave them cold. It really worked for me but I can see why it didn’t find a bigger audience. It is worth giving it a chance though and hopefully it will capture your heart like it did mine.
Doctor Who - Netflix, BBC iPlayer, HBO Max
-12 seasons, 147 episodes

1. Milo - Doctor Who is the most iconic British sci-fi series and arguably one of the most iconic British TV series full-stop. Having a legacy that spans from the 1960s to present day, its recently rebooted series started in 2005 and is an excellent jumping on point for new audiences. A classic time travel show famed for its ability to adapt to anything, Doctor Who is at its best when it is at its most mystical: a show with the ability to take audiences throughout the entirety of space and time, travelling from the past to the future and anywhere in between. The main focus is on the protagonist, a time-traveller known as The Doctor, and The Doctor’s companions who act as audience-inserts. Multiple actors have played The Doctor but the ones you’ll be following are Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker. A significant part of British culture, the show tells a variety of thought-provoking, high-concept sci-fi stories containing all-time classic monsters and aliens. With an ability to switch between light-hearted fun and pure, behind-the-sofa inducing terror on a whim, this all-audience friendly show is perfect to watch with the family.
Dollhouse -
-2 seasons, 26 episodes

1. The North Remembers - This short-lived, sci-fi cyberpunk, drama series aired for two seasons on Fox. Eliza Dushku stars as Echo, part of a secret organization that runs “Dollhouses,” which program their operatives with skills and personalities their clients pay for. Depending on her assignment, Echo will take the skills and persona of a perfect date, an assassin, or a professional thief, all to keep customers and her bosses happy. Many of her team question the morality and ethical concerns of being Dollhouse operatives, which seems ideal except for the high price all the members pay - their original identities and lives must be wiped clean. Meanwhile, a dogged FBI agent (Tahmoh Penikett), who seems to have answers to Echo’s past, actively seeks her and attempts to expose Dollhouse and its operations at all costs.
Doom Patrol - DC Universe, HBO Max
-1 season, 15 episodes

1. That Which Dreams - The Justice League are the world’s greatest heroes, shining examples of what everyone should aspire to be. The Doom Patrol, on the other hand, are not. A bunch of screw-ups that would rather just be left alone, they are compelled by cosmic forces to shoulder the mantle of hero in order to save their mentor. Delving into dark humor, satire, and the psychology of what powers could do to your mental health, this show is quite a different take from DC’s other fare.
-1 season, 12 episodes

1. The North Remembers - One of Paul Blackthrone’s earliest television series and based on books of the same name, Harry Dresden is a wizard who specializes in spells, curses, and all manner of the occult. When the Chicago police have an unexplainable crime, they consult Harry’s expertise even if they don’t fully believe in magic and the paranormal. Harry’s childhood was a difficult one, with flashbacks showing how his magical powers emerged and how he became the sorcerer he is today. While in the present, he teams up with a no-nonsense cop to protect Chicago from the paranormal and the high council of wizards who disapprove of his maverick methods. While its only one season, it shows Paul Blackthorne is able to carry a show as a lead.
Durham County -
-3 seasons, 18 episodes

1. The North Remembers - Durham County stars Flashpoint’s Hugh Dillon as homicide detective Mike Sweeney, who leaves the big city after the death of his partner and moves his family back to his small hometown of Durham County. In addition to dealing with his partner’s death, Mike also struggles with his cancer-ridden wife and conflicted daughters, who aren’t too happy with the family’s sudden relocation. Upon his transfer to the Durham police, Mike is assigned the high profile double murder of two teenage girls. Investigating deeper, he believes that the murders are somehow tied to his old childhood rival (Louis Ferreira), which complicates things further as Mike tries to find justice for the dead while old wounds are reopened and the past resurfaces. A creepy character driven series, Durham County shows that Canada can produce a dark, compelling, edge of your seat drama.
Eureka - Amazon Prime
-5 seasons, 77 episodes

1. Jeff - While transporting his daughter to visit his ex-wife, Jack Carter accidentally stumbles into the hidden town of Eureka, which houses the world's most brilliant scientists. The town itself is kept under wraps by the watchful eye of the government. He quickly finds himself as the town sheriff due to his ability to connect with people and his proclivity for maintaining the safety of the town. Wacky, science-based hijinks ensue as well as multiple crossovers with Warehouse 13.

2. The North Remembers - The titular town of Eureka is a small, secluded town populated by America’s brightest scientists, whose work leads to innovative discoveries and more often than not, to unnatural and hilarious chaos. A quirky, well-written sci-fi series all about a tiny town that brims over with geniuses and scientific breakthroughs, this charmingly eccentric little show centres on simple man, Sheriff Jack Carter, who tries to keep the peace in Eureka. While he may not be as brilliant as the local residents, his simple mindedness and sharp judgement are often what keeps the town sane when things go awry.
Everwood - Amazon Prime
-4 seasons, 89 episodes

1. The North Remembers - One of the WB’s founding shows, Everwood was created by Greg Berlanti long before he did the superhero genre. It starred Treat Williams and a young Emily VanCamp. After the death his wife, Dr. Andy Brown leaves his high prestige practice in New York to move to the small town of Everwood, Colorado with his two children, seeking to heal from their recent loss and because of his wife’s connection to the quaint town. While Andy struggles to heal from his grief, he also tries to repair his distant, broken relationship with his children as the three of them adapt to Everwood’s community. A heartfelt family drama that explores themes such a long term cancer, depression, parent-child clashes, homosexuality, unwanted pregnancy, peer pressure, suicide, and teen sex, this show was surprisingly deep and insightful for its time.
Faking It - Amazon Prime
-3 seasons, 38 episodes

1. LauraLoo - I know what you're thinking. From the premise alone, this show seems poor. Best friends Karma and Amy pretend to be a lesbian couple in order to gain popularity while in high school. But what if I told you that this sets up a heartbreaking yet all-encompassing, deep self-reflection on the part of Amy to figure out that she actually might like girls in one of the most impressive ways for a show of this kind? Hester High School must be the most accepting and inclusive school ever depicted on television. There really isn't any bullying or phobias of any kind here. The only bigotry is the internalized hardships the students place on themselves. Rita Volk really anchors this show, along with Bailey De Young's Lauren as one of the only intersex characters ever. The show rightly calls out the two mains for their mockery of sapphics; however, what unfolds is curiosity and confusion, each season seeing more thoughtful exploration than the last. Factoring in its sudden and somewhat rushed final season and finale, what we have was a show that deserved more than it got. I long for a reboot one day.
FBI: Most Wanted - CBS
-1 season, 14 episodes

1. The North Remembers - Unlike the original show, this one hooked me right off the bat. It has a more “boots on the ground” feeling rather than the mystery of the week of the flagship show. Jess Lacroix is a caring, single father and the hard driven, veteran agent in charge of the FBI’s fugitive task force that pursues the most elusive and dangerous criminals across the nation. Members of Lacroix’s tight knit team include Clinton Skye, a Native American expert tactician and sharpshooter and the brother of Lacroix’s late wife, former soldier Kenny Crosby (Kellan Lutz), the team’s muscle who battles the mental and emotional trauma of his service days as often as the criminals he hunts, Lacroix’s right hand Sheryll Barnes, an ex-undercover cop and lesbian mother who tries to balance her peaceful family life with the dangerous nature of her job, and Hana Gibson, the team’s tech analyst, who for once on a CBS drama is not portrayed as an overly eccentric oddball but rather as a sassy, hard hitting, grounded and competent agent, actively involved in the team’s field operations. If you like fast-paced, action-packed shows with well-developed characters and their relationships with each other, this show is a must watch.
Feel Good - Netflix
-1 season, 6 episodes

1. LauraLoo - Feel Good is a show that can make you feel more than simply "good". It tells the story of Canadian comedian Mae Martin, playing a fictionalized version of herself. Struggling to combat her own demons and maintain her sobriety, she turns to stand-up comedy. It's here where she meets a cute woman named George, and the two of them unexpectedly hit it off. Their dynamic may look picturesque on the outside but once stripped away from the initial excitement of it all, it becomes something deeper and darker. Lisa Kudrow is also here portraying Mae's mother, who seems utterly selfish but is ultimately sympathetic by the end of the season. Mae's mind takes her to dark places, hearing a ringing in her ears when she can sense herself being drawn to old, toxic habits. There are times she can resist, with the help of George, but other times she feels merely powerless. George is also struggling with her new reality as she always considered herself to be strictly straight, but things are not always so surface level. The show's humour is structured in a way that feels entirely real, wholly believable, and it requires more seasons for its ending alone.
Flashforward - ABC
-1 season, 22 episodes

1. The North Remembers - When a strange event causes everyone on Earth to blackout for exactly two minutes and 17 seconds, those affected get a vision of their future - some good and some bad. At the centre are two FBI agents, Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes) and Demetri Noh (John Cho), who seek to unravel the mystery of who or what caused the blackout as those who experienced visions work to change their fates. Flashforward is an amazing science fiction show that sadly never found its way, even with a cast of big actors playing well-developed, flawed, and desperate people who seek to survive their predetermined fate, all while wondering if the future is set in stone and what can be done to avert it. With the science fiction elements of Lost and the race against the clock stakes of 24, this short lived series is a must watch for genre show lovers. It also was one of the earliest shows to introduce a main cast lesbian character (Christine Woods). This gripping show constantly ends each episode with you asking, “What the hell?”
Flashpoint - Hulu, CBS All Access
-5 seasons, 75 episodes

1. The North Remembers - This Canadian-made show starred Enrico Colantoni as Sergeant Greg Parker, the tough as nails yet tenderhearted empathetic leader of the Police Strategic Response Unit (SRU), an elite team of cops who are tactically trained to use lethal force as a last resort only if their negotiation tactics fail. Co-leading the team as Greg’s #2 is Ed Lane, a cop who’s quick to pull the trigger and often struggles with the burden and consequences of when he has to take a life. Each episode starts with an at-risk situation involving the team, the criminal, and the victim in precarious situations only to flashback to the events earlier that lead to that point. The show did a good job portraying the criminals as just desperate people in rough situations and had Greg and his team try to talk them down peacefully rather than take them out. It also portrayed the cops as humans with their own flaws and struggles. Calls got to them, their relationships in and outside the team were affected by their jobs, and they dealt with changes in their lives, good and bad, all getting through it by relying on each other. While originally broadcasted on CBS, the show was cancelled after one season but got picked up for international distribution lasting six additional seasons.
For the People -
-2 seasons, 20 episodes

1. Luana - For the People is set in New York’s Federal Court, where brand new lawyers work for both the defense and the prosecution as they handle the most high profile and high stakes cases in the country. Not just another legal drama, this show takes the time to show you both sides of each case, allowing the viewer to ponder legal and moral arguments from both sides, something we don’t see every day and could definitely use more of. It ended after two seasons but that doesn’t make the episodes any less valuable. With Britt Robertson at the head of an amazing cast and some brilliant writing, including some of the best monologues I’ve heard in awhile, this show is a great way to spend some quality time, and even rewatch every once in a while. I certainly would not mind watching some of the newbies here in any upcoming shows.
Frequency - Netflix
-1 season, 13 episodes

1. The North Remembers - In 2016, Detective Raimy Sullivan stumbles across an old ham radio that she uses to talk to her father. The kicker? Her father was killed in action in 1996. Somehow, using the radio, Raimy is able to communicate with her father from across 20 years, warning him of his future death and allowing him to prevent it. However, changing the past can have consequences for the future. Raimy realizes her life is now different from the life she knew. Her fiancé doesn’t recognize her and her mother, who was alive and well before, is now dead. She was murdered by a serial killer who, originally dormant for 20 years, is now active. Now with memories from two different timelines, Raimy and her father must work simultaneously in different eras to undo the changes, get her mother back, and set the timeline right. Peyton List often receives flak given her history with shows but this series really displayed her range as an actress. It's only a season long, like so many of her other projects, but a deleted scene was released after the cancellation that gave the series closure.

Last year ahead of episode 9 of For The People we got the surprising season two renewal, this year sadly we got the cancellation news. And while the cancellation decision was understandable from a profit angle, I am still saddened by the fact For The People isn`t anymore. Despite the cancellation For The People delivered another heavy and powerful outing, as Supergirl and Wonder Woman crossed paths again and a Jill & Rogers romantic relationship got pushed to a new test. “Who are we now?” was written by Alexander Newman-Wise and directed by Daisy Mayer.

A lot has changed since Sandra`s and Kate`s epic face off in 18 Miles Outside of Roanoke, yet one thing hasn`t the spark that Brit and Susannah bring to their respective roles and how their interactions take this whole episode and show for that matter to a new level. Their clash during this episode seemed very straight forward and like Kate had this one in the bag but the benefit of the doubt aka reasonable doubt Sandra brought into play would take a valid swing at any offense prepared by Kate. As viewers, we`ve got the bts stuff we knew Sandra`s client was guilty but as a Jury member only seeing what was presented I would`ve had my doubts. It was just a precious piece of writing and a challenge for the jury. Everything Sandra presented made sense, Theo was a liar, when he got caught, he changed his story and of course, he would protect his sister over a random girl. And as she was hitting right into the spot you could see Kate`s offense fall apart and take this whole story to a new level.

The interaction between Sandra and Kate was just too good. It is tough to maintain a friendship as you are put into a situation where you or your friend has to lose. The performance of the actresses felt natural and relatable, with the pace and character moments perfectly creating tension and relief as the story progressed. Still, this time around Sandra pulled ahead with her closing. I remember how good

and strong Susannah`s performance was as she explained her 18 Miles Out of Roanoke story, but just as good as Sandra`s closing. She was poignant, with a perfect word choice and certainty in her voice that made her closing that much more convincing. The case took a majorly unexpected turn when Jill and Roger interfered and closed the case with a bargain deal. Sandra`s rage was unstoppable and Britt´s performance beyond anything she delivered in the previous 18 episodes. The frustration that built up within her over the last couple of episodes finally unleashed. Jill had no counterarguments, as every sentence out of Sandra`s mouth was the painful truth her emotions toward Roger were covering. And while it pains me to say, cause I love Jill & Roger to the bones, it looks bad. Being in the power position both of them are making any choice they make seem biased.

This certainly wouldn`t be a Shondaland show if this argument didn`t happen just when Roger was about to make a big move in their relationship. Roger`s scenes with Tina were hilarious. The way she drew out the emotional dude out of Roger was sweet and hilarious. Their banter was just working so well, with a perfect flow which countered the other two heavy stories happening during this outing. What will the writers do in the series finale? No clue, Sandra`s words hit Jill quite hard, yet her and Roger`s relationship is a long way coming. My only hope is that we get a decent closure considering the cancellation.

On the other side of the Prosecutor-Defense face off were Allison and Jay and Seth and Leonard. While Leonard and Seth didn`t have active cases this week the writers found a way to keep them around as Allison and Jay fought hard for a struggling war veteran. The fact that we probably won`t get a proper Leonard-Allison to hook up is a shame. The writers were slowly working towards it and now it can`t flourish the way it should. The story of the war veteran took quite the dark turn as they started recording him. The writers were going to emotionally destroy us, that was obvious but instead of a splashy little movie, they showed the painful reality that stabbed right into the heart, even Judge Guillotine.

That`s the wrap on For The People`s penultimate episode. What are your thoughts on the events of this episode? Would Sandra convince her into her truth? Or would you stick with Kate? Sound off in the comment section below. Till next week. . .

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

The real beauty of For The People is their ability to give either character the spotlight and that actors ability to carry the episode out on their own shoulders. So in this week`s episode, Jasmin Savoy Brown took the episode and let Allison rule all over us. “Moral Suasion” was written by Chelsea Grate and directed by Valerie Weiss.

In another heartbreaking case of social injustice, the For The People writers pulled out all the stops and made me whimp by the time I have finished this outing. The connection between Allison and Rodney was right there, it was just one of those perfect moments when you click with somebody.

Their small talk about Project Runway, the getting to know each other it all felt authentic and natural. Jasmin was mesmerizing, she had a special glow this episode, she was motivated, excited, she waited for such a juicy storyline for the whole season and she brought her A game. She fought like never before and all her fighting eventually was about to pay off when faith decided otherwise. Rodney couldn`t take what his life has turned into and the insecurity of his future so he took his life. My opinions on suicide change from time to time, I often find it as a selfish option but with Rodney, I felt it why? I understood it and while disappointed I got it, I`ve related to his pain and that is the most important thing a show can do these days.

The introduction of Allison`s parents wasn`t smooth, but their reaction felt reasonable. She only called them up for money. That was a bad move, yet shows how far Allison`s desperation went. Her final speech to Rodney`s aunt was impeccable, so well written and smoothly executed. So much power and emotion.

Otherwise pairing Allison up with Leonard and Ted gave refreshing results. Allison had great momentum with both characters and the energy building up during their scenes just made it an even more captivating hour of television.

To balance out the dark shadow of Allison`s story, the writers hilariously put Judge Byrne on Jury duty. Vondie Curtis-Hall made me laugh my ass off during his scenes, his comedic timing, his facial expressions, and interactions with the other Jury members were on point and brought me to my knees. All around it was great seeing this so serious person that is on a sort of pedestal cause of his moral integrity be down and simple with all those regular folks. I am not saying Byrne presents him as someone better than other people he just carries this integrity that makes him stand out from others.

The trial itself was another hilarious event. From the useless defense attorney to the prosecutor using a pointer they just charmed a smile on my face. Byrne interfering with the trial as much as he could be executed smoothly and with a major dose of Judge charm. The scene with Seth and Kate meeting Byrne in the coffee shop was hilarious. Ben Rappaport is just so perfectly awkward as Seth and it played well into Byrne`s hands. The way Byrne later depicted the trial and the image the prosecutor tried to portray in the jury members head was smart and executed with surgical precision. We definitely need more of Byrne out of the courtroom, he is just that good. Let`s hope he exits the courtroom in the next season (fingers crossed for that).

The secondary plot revolving around Sandra finding out about Roger and Jill`s relationship was a bit draggy. But overly I think the writers just didn`t want us to forget it so it could play out in the coming episodes.

"Stop playing by the rules."

This episode was a bit slow, it did give the characters the chance to develop a bit more which is something I would be fully on board with if I didn't feel like there's some change in the writers' room that is trying to send them on different paths without really showing us why the character would do such a thing. The main thing here is that now Sandra knows about Jill and Roger and I wonder how that will play out.

efense attorneys are underwater with a flu outbreak; Sandra gets what looks like a minor case of a Braden Walsh fishing at a reservation but when a federal wildlife officer is reported missing, Sandra got a clue from the guy about where the officer might be and she’s not sure if she should turn it over and betray her client, but she has a conversation with Kate and she gives her the map.

They eventually find the body but now there’s the question of whether the amount of time Sandra waited could’ve made the difference. But apparently, Sandra’s biggest concern is about her turning on her client. She says she’s loyal, it’s her own identity, that she’d never betray anyone, no matter what they do, which kinda seems a bit off character for her, yes, she's loyal to Allison in that way, but she's always the moral compass in most rooms, I feel like the writers are losing sight of who the characters are lately, not only here but with Leonard in the last episode as well.

Speaking of which, Allison goes to talk her down but all she ends up saying is she’ll see her home. I have to say I love they’re developing Sandra’s relationship with Ted and Kate but I feel like they’ve forgotten a little about her relationship with Allison which was pretty much the heart of the show at first, I wonder what’s up with that.

Seth takes a brick of cocaine from evidence by mistake and it gets stolen, but just when he’s about to turn himself in the guy who doesn’t want the trouble it would cause brings it back, this feels like a dumb storyline but it was good to build their friendship some more, so that’s cool.

"Role models are not perfect."

In this episode, Jay gets a federal drug case where he needs the client to flip on someone else from the prison, and he’s clearly trying to get his own self-esteem up, but it’s more funny than effective. And things only get worse when another inmate, Randy Stanton (José Zúñiga – Madam Secretary, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), is trying to “steal” his case by offering legal advice. In the end, the guy actually manages to help, and I’m sure it’s not the last time we’ll see him.

Ted and Sandra flirt a little and they decide to box together, but when he starts to make his intent on seeing her outside of work clear, she says her work is her life, and she’s choosing boxing as her ONLY distraction because clearing her head actually makes her better at her job, so he gets the message, it’s not personal but nothing’s gonna happen there, yet. We know something will probably happen eventually but I like this as a way to stretch it out and maybe let them get to know each other as friends before anything else happens.

The biggest story is definitely Leonard’s, who gets a case against a billionaire in real-estate, Isaiah West, defended by Philip Kaws (Obba Babatundé – S.W.A.T., Dear White People) a cunning and charming lawyer that’s actually been a role model to him. But after he makes him look like a fool more than once, Leonard decides to put his admiration aside.

Kaws tries to bury him in motions and they wear him out, but when that doesn’t work he manages to get inside his head by suggesting he was only chosen as prosecutor because of the color of his skin, and I have to say I did not take Leonard as someone who would be surprised or visibly offended by this. And the U.S. Attorney, Douglas Delap, sure pulls no punches when he tells him exactly that, that it’s the way life and politics work, that no matter how talented he is, the color of his skin will affect the perception of others and his chances in life, for better or worse.

After that, he opens up to Kate in which we knew was going to be one of the best scenes, and he says he’s sick and tired of feeling like he doesn’t belong, like he’s never going to be treated in the same way as a white man, and yet he’s not “black enough” because of his upbringing. By the end of the episode, Kate tells him something I’m sure many were already thinking and it’s that he actually belongs where he is right now, even if what Delap said remains true.

After that, he truly goes for it and not only he gives a winning and kick ass closing argument, but he manages to tear Kaws a new one when he brings up his past record and takes advantage of the fact he’s been an admirer for years to show just how well he actually knows him and his flaws, something that clearly hits him hard. I’m so glad we’re getting to see more of Leonard and though Kate was very good at just being there for him, I have to say I missed their interactions: But the truth is Susannah Flood always manages to steal every scene she’s in, so I did appreciate her taking a step back to let Regé-Jean Page shine, which he definitely did.

Marko: E2 Laurel appears in the flashforwards to save Mia. Finally we got what many comic book fans wanted for 7 seasons. Laurel Lance as a full-fledged mighty Black Canary. The phenomenal entrance, the admiration in Mia's eyes and the attitude she transferred to the screen. It was a perfect moment and fulfilled E2 Laurel Lance's redemption story. On the other hand, it paid respect to E1 Laurel Lance's dying wish to carry on her legacy with the created Canary Network. Laurel's reputation was dragged through mud multiple times and this is at least something to keep her reputation clean in the Vigilante world.
Samantha: Same and for the exact same reasons. As a Laurel Lance fan this episode made me really happy, even if we had to wait so long into the series for it to happen. E2 Laurel Lance is carrying on the legacy of her E1 counterpart & this is one redemption story I can root for.
Samantha: Once Fallon saw the photo Monica sent the show could've gone down the really predictable route of Fallon going at Kirby all guns blazing. Fallon acknowledging she had a right to be angry at the betrayal but shockingly wasn't showed a lot of growth for her, as did explaining to Kirby she was more angry that she hadn't had the courage to tell her the truth and Kirby accepting that. These two have come a long way since Kirby's introduction to the show and I really love their friendship. Kirby telling Fallon she wanted to go on the book tour because she was responsible for making the deal happen & Fallon accepting that without any complaints just sealed the deal on a really lovely scene.

FOR THE PEOPLE, "The Boxer", April 18, 2019, Actors: Jasmin Savoy Brown, Britt Robertson
The Scene: Allison comforts Sandra
Mads: I missed these two! They've barely had any scenes together this season and I'm glad they finally had a really nice moment with Allison being there for Sandra after the difficult decision she had to make pertaining to her client. "I love you, Sandy." They're so sweet.
Justyna: There's a number of scenes I would like to highlight from the hour. I could not decide, until the very last moment, which one to include in the article. There are these two incredibly powerful exchanges where John Bradley and the rest of the cast shine in their performances, showing their characters' vulnerabilities and internal conflicts. First, when Sam meets Dany and a thank you turns into the most unexpected and painful confession. And then there's the long-awaited moment when Jon finally learns the truth about his parents. As much as I would love to continue to write about these, the actual first thing that came to mind when I was deciding on the best scene to highlight from the episode was actually its ending. There's no dialogue in the moment, the viewers are following a man who arrives at Winterfell and is slowly revealed to be Jaime Lannister. More than that, the first person who notices his presence is Bran Stark. Bran's expression is impossible to read but Jaime's clearly shaken by this meeting. It's clear that Bran's the last person he would want to encounter. I love that we've been seeing Bran waiting throughout the episode and he's been mostly dismissed by everyone, due to his abilities and behavior, but he still lets the viewers know early on that he's "waiting for an old friend". And yet it doesn't truly hit you until that last scene. Loved how obvious and still surprising this turned out to be. Also, there's something powerful about the fact that final season premiere ends with these two, knowing that their last meeting was the ending of the series premiere as well. A wonderful full-circle reference. Kudos to cast & crew for this memorable hour!
Laura B: Dany, Jorah and Sam have an exchange. John Bradley really did an excellent job when a pleasant conversation about helping Jorah with his greyscale and Sam asking for pardon for taking some books immediately goes south, when it's revealed that Dany burned Sam's father and brother alive. It's really to Sam's credit to see that he still feels bad, even for a man who didn't treat him right. Moreover it was this exchange that leads Sam to finally tell Jon the truth about who he really is, which was also a wonderful scene! I just worry now that Sam will lose his integrity by not showing Dany the same compassion he was willing to show for his father.
Marko: Ed and Oswald embrace each other. Nygma and Oswald went through so many ups and downs during their 5 season run. They grew into formidable and psychotic villains. Them completely embracing their destiny and trying to almost kill each other showed how far they have come and how much they respect each other.
Klutzy girl: Barbara names her and Jim's daughter after herself and Lee (who helped during the entire pregnancy and assisted in the delivery), thus giving rise to Barbara Gordon. I loved this moment so much and it also doesn't surprise me that Barbara passed her own name on.

IN THE DARK, "The Big Break", April 28, 2019, Actors: Perry Mattfeld, Calle Walton
The Scene: Murphy talks with Chloe about menstruation
Marko: It is unbelievable how much heart this show has and how much story it tells with simple scenes with poignant writing. The connection between these two blind girls is just heartwarming and exploits a different side of Murphy's character.

Milo: H's identity revealed? This was a frantic, tense sequence that was among the show's best. Corbett snapped and shot at the masked man after his raid on the Eastfield depot backfired - Hargreaves - unintentionally killing him. It seemed this was the straw that broke the camel's back and now Corbett is rogue and infinitely more dangerous than ever before. The show kept us in the dark and on the edge from the word go, and I cannot wait to see where it goes from here. As a bonus, there are still enough questions behind the identity of H - as ever, on Line of Duty, that we have lingering in the back of our mind. Was Hargreaves truly H? Or could it be, as the show seems intent on pushing so hard, our beloved Hastings?
Jennise: That was a packed couple of minutes of screen time for Michael. Michael, who's been searching for his roots or a way home his entire life, is desperate to save the family he's finally found. Alex, desperate to get Michael to leave the building, finally admits how he feels about Michael. On the heels of that revelation Michael discovers that the woman he has an unexplained connection with is his mother. In that moment she knows her child survived and didn't spend the last 70 years being tortured and Michael knows that someone loved him. And a few moments later she, and the other captives are incinerated. It was a great scene that provided the emotional set up for the final scene of the episode.
Mads: Michael sees his mother. Ugh, what a heartbreaking episode! Michael finally finds his mother locked up in an alien experimentation lab and then is forced to watch her die when the entire facility explodes and he is helpless to save her. Michael Vlamis was amazing in this scene.

Jennise: There were three scenes I wanted to nominate, but I picked this one because it caught me off guard. Davis hit a hurdle (passing out while leading her team into a burning building) that she couldn't clear to give herself a bit of space to think she gets permission to visit Clay in the hospital. When Clay asks her about OCS she tries to turn the conversation back toward him, but he shuts her down. She has no choice but to talk about what's bothering her. When she admits to thinking about walking away from her dream Clay isn't particularly kind. Understandable, she's thinking about giving up on her dream when he's trying to deal with having his dream taken from him. Clay tries to soften his words by pointing out that the navy can't afford to lose her and to "get yourself right". It was a much harsher "pep talk" than I expected, but, I believe, what was needed. It was a nice moment.
Milo: In a finale full of awesome moments (this is one of those times that I really wanted just to put the entire episode down here) that ranks up there with one of the best single episodes that the entire franchise has ever done, which is saying something - Star Trek Discovery doubled down on its emotional stakes with a farewell to Spock from Burnham. We all knew that Spock couldn't join Burnham on Discovery's voyage to the future yet to see them say goodbye in person after everything that Season 2 has achieved in showing between their relationship made it all the more rewarding for a brilliant payoff, especially with everything that followed as we learnt what happened to Spock, Number One & Pike in the aftermath. I hope Discovery sets up an Enterprise-centric spinoff, as it's absolutely what's needed.

SUPERNATURAL, "Jack in the Box", April 18, 2019, Actor: Jensen Ackles
The Scene: Dean breaks down in the woods
Klutzy girl: Dean breaks down in the woods following Mary's death. This was an amazing bit of acting by Jensen Ackles (who discussed how hard it was to film at a con weeks ago) and so painful. He's putting on a brave face and clinging to his anger to deal with his mom's death but Dean's grief is clearly overwhelming and it hurts to see him like this.

THE FLASH, "Godspeed", April 16, 2019, Actors: Grant Gustin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, The Scene: Barry tells Nora he doesn't trust her
Justyna: This one is quite painful to watch. Especially when you can understand both sides of the story. Learning about Nora's past gives the viewers a better understanding of her actions and motives. It's clear that she never meant any harm and she truly wanted to meet her father and help him solve that one mystery that he never could. But after following Barry's story for the last few years it's hard not to see how much the truth hurt him. Nora's betrayal is a terrible reminder of all the losses he's suffered. Eobard Thawne detroyed his life. He murdered Barry's mother and allowed the whole world to believe that Barry's father was the one responsible for her death. Barry lost them both, his entire family and now he learns that despite knowing that Nora continued to ask for Thawne's support, even when she had everyone else by her side. Her choice leaves Barry absolutely heartbroken and unable to trust her judgment. He acts on his emotions and returns her to her time. Her reaction at the end says it all. First it's Barry that almost breaks down as he asks her "how many times..." and finally it's Nora who ends up all alone, feeling truly abandoned and broken. I'm sure that's not how the story ends, especially considering the fact that Barry made the decision on his own, not allowing anyone to say goodbye. I feel for both of the characters here. Such wonderful performances by Jessica Parker Kennedy and Grant Gustin.
Naomi: After Nora is allowed to tell the team some of the truth she has been hiding, Barry asks to speak with her alone. He shares with her that he understands her asking for Thawne's help to travel back in time to meet him, but he cannot understand why she continued to have a relationship with him in secret even after she found out that he killed her grandmother. Barry tells Nora that he doesn't trust her and that she can no longer stay in the past with them. He wooshes her back to the future, telling her that if she tries to travel back in time he'll feel it. Barry leaves Nora standing alone with a very unfeeling goodbye. This was a good scene filled with emotion by Jessica Parker Kennedy and Grant Gustin. It showed Nora's fear of the truth and abandonment as well as Barry's disappointment and sadness at his daughter's betrayal.

Milo: In a very big game-changer for the series that means nothing will ever be the same, the series took its time to send off Quentin in a pitch-perfect way, sacrificing himself to save his friends. Everything worked perfectly in the build-up to his death, which was ever so devastating, especially when coupled with one more musical number. I don't think I'll hear Take On Me the same way again, and chances are high that there won't be a more emotional death this year on television.

Justyna: Lea's story in this week's episode was heartbreaking to follow. Unfortunately you knew what to expect and no matter how hopeful you'd try to be Lea still died, despite the fact it would be so easy to save her if she was only given more attention from the hospital staff. A never event, a mistake that should never happen. Racial bias (unconscious or not) in a place meant to save anyone and everyone. It was good to see this particular hospital learning from this terrible event, working on ways to improve but that entire ending proves that there's so much more to be done to prevent these deaths from ever happening again. Bell's speech is memorable, but it's the part where a father has to take his baby home alone, with tears in his eyes that hits so much harder. And then there's the footage that I did not see coming. A real life story about a woman named Kira Dixon Johnson, one of the inspiration for the episode. This short tribute was meaningful, powerful and absolutely heartbreaking. If there's even a smallest chance that an episode like this one can make a difference in the world I'm most grateful for telling this story. Kudos to cast & crew for all their work.
Mads: Devon confronts Dr. Stewart about his racial bias. Another heartbreaking scene but this was an incredible and vital episode. The death rates of mothers in hospitals, particularly black mothers, is unacceptable. Racial bias is highly prevalent in our society and it's horrible that even our healthcare system partakes in it. I'm glad The Resident decided to call attention to how hospitals need to do better in this regard because it is a serious issue.

Hey, all, sorry for the delay, I will be posting the review for the following episodes shortly. On this episode of For the People, we’re reminded about one of the best qualities of this show, the friendships. Not only Jay and Seth were great but that moment when Allison and Jay see Sandra trying to clean up her office after working with Kate was hilarious. I have to say I’m loving this new bond between Sandra and Kate, though Allison doesn’t really seem to agree, yeah, she was mostly joking, but I’m pretty sure I detected some jealousy there.

Seth is having trouble with his apartment and while they repair it he stays with Jay and his parents who are ecstatic about having proof that Jay’s friends aren’t imaginary and they get along wonderfully, so much so that he’s tempted to stay, but a stern talk from Leonard makes him realize he can’t do that, he still feels lonely so he ends up asking Jay to be his roommate and I’m always looking forward to new relationship developments here, so this is a great start.

Alison gets a stamp theft from 59 years ago; the National Philatelic Foundation just wants them back from an old man who, turns out, is trying to sell them to save his brother’s great-grand-daughter who has leukemia. Luckily Allison finds a way for the museum to pay him a reward for returning the stamps, a win-win that ends with an emotional family reunion.

Now, to the big case of the episode: A letter from Emma, a 12-year-old with a 4-year sentence in a Juvenile detention facility, gets Sandra to a much bigger case, a judge who gets paid to get that detention center at full capacity. Judge Grant Fitzpatrick (Robert Curtis Brown) is happily sentencing a kid with a year in Juvie for a school fight when we meet him and a horrified Sandra goes to Jill to pitch the case but she’s not allowed to investigate the Judge for his connection to the private juvenile detention center, so she goes straight to Kate.

Kate says no at first but Sandra is sure she can convince her if she can find a little bit more of information so she enlists the help of Ted who’s the one that figures out the money laundry scheme to pay for the whole thing. Am I the only one who finds Ted suspicious? I mean, honestly? Ted? I have a feeling that’s not exactly his birth name, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s something shady in his past, maybe that’s my years watching the good wife, but there’s something about investigators that just makes me wonder.

Kate’s not really happy about having so much proof and having to go against a respected judge. Still, she goes at him hard, but when things get tricky she starts doubting the whole case and her own identity as a prosecutor. Roger tells her outside of their comfort zone is where the good lawyers are and he pushes her to stick with the case until she can prove the witness is lying, which she does in spades by calling Judge Byrne to testify about the connection.

I might be alone here, but the comparison with the judicial system to one big happy family didn't seem like the right move to me, it was too much of a romanticized view of something that's not only far from perfect but it has caused too much pain in real life to let this sit quietly. Still, I'm glad she won the case and the kids were able to say their piece to the judge who just sat there expressionless, as if he wasn't villainous enough before. And then the episode ends with a fun party at Jay's new and Seth's old home.
