AS NETWORK LOOKS TO DOUBLE ITS ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING
“GUILT” JOINS OTHER PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED PILOTS “STAY,”
“BEYOND” AND “GORGEOUS MORONS”

Burbank, CA (June 25, 2015) – As ABC Family works to double its original programming over the next four years, the network has greenlit pilot production on a new one-hour drama series “Guilt.” This announcement comes on the heels of the network ordering pilots for scripted dramas “Stay,” the supernatural drama “Beyond” and scripted comedy “Gorgeous Morons.”

“‘Guilt’ is a sophisticated, sexy and suspenseful crime epic that will have audiences captivated week-to-week,” said Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, ABC Family.

“Guilt” is an edgy, soapy thriller that revolves around an American in London who becomes the prime suspect in the savage murder of her roommate. As the investigation unfolds, the viewers will question whether she's a naive, young girl whose poor decisions are being magnified under the ruthless glare of the British tabloids, or whether she's a sociopath who brutally murdered her friend. Even her own sister, who comes to London to defend her, will question how well she really knows her little sister as more and more ugly truths come out. This mystery will twist through all layers of London society -- from a posh, but depraved, sex club all the way up to the Royal Family itself. “Guilt” is written, created and executive-produced by Kathryn Price (“The Game Plan”) and Nichole Millard (“The Game Plan”). Steve McPherson will serve as executive producer. “Guilt” is a co-production of Sea to Sky Entertainment (the joint venture between Lionsgate Television and Thunderbird Films) and BV Family Productions in association with ABC Family.

09:50 - Netflix - To Launch in India by 2016

The potential launch could shake up India's nascent VOD market which has seen recent entrants like Hooq, Hotstar, Ditto TV and Eros Now.

Increasingly global streaming giant Netflix has plans to launch in India by 2016, according to a report in the Times of India Thursday.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, the Times report said Netflix had "firmed up plans" to enter the Indian market which is still virgin territory for VOD companies. “We have said we plan to be nearly global by the end of 2016. We have nothing else to share at this point,” a Netflix spokesperson told the Times.

India seems a fertile market for VOD uptake given that Internet penetration and mobile connectivity are increasing rapidly. According to a recent industry report by consultants KPMG India, the country had about 280 million internet users in 2014, with growth largely spurred by the increasing penetration of smartphones (116 million in 2014). The report predicts that India is expected to reach 640 million internet users by 2019.

Additionally, India's total mobile subscriber base is currently at about 970 million, and the 1 billion user mark could be reached by the end of 2015, according to figures from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. India is the second largest mobile market in the world after China which has 1.27 billion users.
Relative newcomer Rebecca Thomas has been hired to direct Looking for Alaska, Paramount's adaptation of John Green's debut novel.

Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who wrote the screenplays for both Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns, are also adapting Alaska. And Fault and Paper Towns producers Temple Hill are also onboard to produce, as The Hollywood Reporter exclusive reported.

Green's 2005 book centers on a teen named Miles (who, in his spare time, memorizes the final words of famous people) as he goes to boarding school for his junior year. There, he meets a enigmatic student named Alaska and begins to fall for her.
Green announced the news to his four million-plus followers on Twitter.
Green's debut novel Looking for Alaska hit shelves in 2005 and went on to win the Michael L. Printz Award in 2006. Paramount scooped up the rights in 2005, but the studio waited to move forward on the project until after Fault became a massive success (It's earned $307.2 million worldwide). The film adaptation of Paper Towns, starring Nat Wolff and Cara Delevingne, will hit theaters on July 24 via Fox.

Worsties, prepare to meet the female version of Paul (Allan McLeod).
FXX's critical darling You're the Worst has cast Mageina Tovah for its upcoming second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Tovah, whose credits include Joan of Arcadia, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder, has signed on for a multiple-episode arc as Amy Cadingle, Paul's nerdy new girlfriend. The character is described as essentially being a female Paul — she's a bespectacled, stringy-haired interpreter for the deaf who is decidedly secure in her oddness. Good-natured and upbeat, she is seemingly impervious to Lindsay's (Kether Donohue) attempts at undercutting her relationship with Paul. She will first appear in the episode titled "Born Dead."
We've broken the whole season. When I wrote the initial script, it was supposed to be a feature. I was maybe on page 90 and I thought, "I'm not even through the first act," so I thought, "I'll turn this into a show then." I knew what the first season was going to be about, so going into it — even before we made the pilot — I knew what the season finale was.

How was it adjusting the project for TV? Was there ever a concern about having to fill in a lot more story if it was going to a 22-episode first season?

I never pitched it like that. … In fact, even if some [networks] offered 13 episodes, I was saying, "No, it has to be 10 [episodes] and maybe four or five seasons max," because there is an ending and we are building towards that ending and I don’t want to deviate from that. I never had that fear because the first season wound up actually becoming what my first act of the feature was going to be.

COMEDY SERIES DOLL & EM, STARRING EMILY MORTIMER AND DOLLY WELLS, TO RETURN FOR ITS SECOND SEASON ON HBO

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 3, 2014 – DOLL & EM, the comedy series starring Emily Mortimer (HBO’s “The Newsroom”) and Dolly Wells (“Bridget Jones’s Diary”), will return for a second season on HBO. Guest stars on the six-episode season, currently in production in New York, include Ewan McGregor, Olivia Wilde, Evan Rachel Wood and Mikhail Baryshnikov.

The new season will again be directed by Azazel Jacobs and produced by Alessandro Nivola with Kevin Comer under Nivola and Mortimer’s King Bee label. BAFTA winner Andrew Eaton will executive produce along with Lucy Lumsden, the show’s commissioner for Sky. DOLL & EM is an original production from UK broadcaster BSkyB and will premiere on Sky Living in the UK.

Written by and starring real-life best friends Mortimer and Wells, DOLL & EM debuted on HBO in March 2014. The six-episode first season explored what happens when a Hollywood actress hires her childhood friend as a personal assistant while making a film in Los Angeles. A bittersweet, intimate portrait of female friendship, the series followed their relationship through unexpected complications and surprising twists.

In the second season, the two write an off-Broadway play together in an effort to do something creative on equal footing. They manage to hoodwink Evan Rachel Wood and Olivia Wilde into appearing in it, with Wood playing Doll and Wilde playing Em. Chaos ensues when Wilde and Wood begin to lose faith in the project.

Among the critical raves for the first season, the Los Angeles Times observed, “It's as complicated a duet, in its way, as that of ‘True Detective,’ and as well-played and rewarding, the more so as series about female friendship are in proportionately short supply.”
BEGINS PRODUCTION EARLY THIS YEAR FOR SUMMER DEBUT; LINDELOF SERVES AS SHOWRUNNER; PETER BERG DIRECTED PILOT
FROM A SCRIPT BY LINDELOF AND PERROTTA

When 2% of the world’s population abruptly disappears without explanation, the world struggles to understand just what they’re supposed to do about it. Three years later, the new HBO drama series THE LEFTOVERS is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut.

Damon Lindelof (Emmy® winner for “Lost”) and acclaimed novelist Tom Perrotta (Academy Award® nominee for “Little Children”; “Election”) collaborate on THE LEFTOVERS, which begins production of its ten-episode season in New York early this year for summer debut. Lindelof serves as the series showrunner.

Based on Perrotta’s bestselling novel of the same name, THE LEFTOVERS is an original look at The Rapture…because it’s not entirely clear The Rapture happened. Peter Berg directed the pilot from a script by Lindelof and Perrotta. Lindelof and Perrotta executive produce the series along with Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey; Ron Yerxa and Albert Berger co-executive produce. The series is produced for HBO by Adventure Corps in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Set in a small New York suburb, THE LEFTOVERS follows Justin Theroux (“Mulholland Drive”; HBO’s “John Adams” and “Six Feet Under”) as Kevin Garvey, a father of two and the chief of police, who is trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy when the notion no longer applies. Additional series regulars include: Amy Brenneman (“Private Practice”); Christopher Eccleston (“Thor: The Dark World”); Liv Tyler (“The Strangers,” “The Lord of the Rings”); Charlie Carver (“Desperate Housewives”); Max Carver (“Desperate Housewives”); Carrie Coon (“Gone Girl”); Ann Dowd (“Side Effects”); Michael Gaston (“The Mentalist”); Emily Meade (HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire”); Annie Q (“The Reluctant Professor”); Margaret Qualley; Amanda Warren (“The Adjustment Bureau”); and Chris Zylka (“The Amazing Spider-Man”).
MIKE JUDGE TAKES A COMIC LOOK AT WORLD OF HIGH-TECH IN THE NEW HBO SERIES SILICON VALLEY, DEBUTING APRIL 6

In the high-tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.

Mike Judge (“Office Space,” “Beavis & Butthead,” “King of the Hill”) brings his irreverent brand of humor to HBO in the new comedy series SILICON VALLEY. Partially inspired by Judge’s own experiences as a Silicon Valley engineer in the late ‘80s, the show kicks off its eight-episode season SUNDAY, APRIL 6 (10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT).

SILICON VALLEY features a talented ensemble of young comic actors. Cast regulars include: Thomas Middleditch (“Search Party,” “The Office”), T.J. Miller (“Mash Up,” “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”), Zach Woods (“In the Loop,” “The Office”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Franklin & Bash,” “Portlandia”), Martin Starr (“Freaks and Geeks,” “Party Down”), Josh Brener (“Glory Daze,” “The Internship”), Christopher Evan Welch (“The Master,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”) and Amanda Crew (“Jobs,” “Charlie St. Cloud”). Matt Ross (“Magic City,” HBO’s “Big Love”) guest stars.

Richard (Middleditch) is an introverted computer programmer living in the Hacker Hostel start-up incubator along with his best friend, Big Head (Brener), pompous Gilfoyle (Starr) and dry-witted Dinesh (Nanjiani). These social misfits live under the watch of Erlich (Miller), a self-satisfied dotcom millionaire who lets them stay in his house for free – as long as he gets a ten percent stake in their projects.

After a failed pitch to billionaire venture capitalist Peter Gregory (Welch), Richard seems destined to remain at his job at the tech company Hooli, founded by the megalomaniacal Gavin Belson (Ross). When Monica (Crew), Gregory’s head of operations, and Jared (Woods), a Hooli executive, realize the value of the site’s search algorithm, a bidding war erupts between Belson and Gregory, with Richard caught in the middle.

Mike Judge directs four of the episodes; also directing are Alec Berg (HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Tricia Brock (HBO’s “Girls”) and Maggie Carey (“The To Do List”).

The writers are Mike Judge, Alec Berg, Clay Tarver, Dan O’Keefe, John Altschuler & Dave Krinsky, Ron Weiner, Carson Mell, Jessica Gao and Matteo Borghese & Rob Turbovsky.

SILICON VALLEY was created by Mike Judge & John Altschuler & Dave Krinsky; executive producers, Mike Judge, Alec Berg, John Altschuler & Dave Krinsky, Michael Rotenberg, Tom Lassally and Scott Rudin; producers, Jim Kleverweis and Chrisann Verges.
