Subtitle: Lynn’s Ouroboros

Ouroboros – (ur·ro·bor·es) a circular symbol that depicts a snake or dragon devouring its own tail and that is used especially to represent the eternal cycle of destruction and rebirth

I'm familiar with the symbol associated with the ouroboros and have heard the word, but seeing the word in print didn't connect with the image. So I looked it up and figured I'd share the definition.

Odell is officially the most effective villain in my TV Viewing realm this season. I’ve never trusted the guy, but this episode pushed that distrust toward hatred. It’s always awesome when a story gets such a visceral reaction from me.

When the episode started, I jotted down: “It’s absolutely never good when the doctors begin to experiment on themselves. LOL”

I had no idea how much worse than Lynn deciding to create a drug, derived from Green Light, to enhance her brain, things were going to get.

Odell used subliminal messages and drugs to push Lynn to ‘come up with the idea’ of creating this drug to sharpen her mind. It seems she’s underestimated the addictive effect of the drug.

From Odell’s statement there’s likely no way to remove all of the addictive properties. The only upside is that she does seem to have come up with a cure for the deadly Meta virus.

Jefferson spent most of the episode adjusting to the new world.

Lynn is working for Odell, the occupation, his eldest daughter’s presence as a beacon to the resistance (something Anissa doesn’t really sanction), and Jennifer’s support of the occupation, is all just too much for him to take.

He responds in his usual calm and reasonable fashion. He goes to Anissa’s apartment...and starts a screaming match with her.

Their argument is so loud that it freaks Grace out so much that she morphs into a teenager who begs Jefferson not to hurt them.

The nicest thing about that scene was the having Anissa’s love and acceptance be the calming influence that allowed Grace to change back into her primary face.

Yay! Jefferson took the watch to Gambi. Gambi found the tracking device Odell put in it and Gambi being Gambi, he duplicated the signal so that they could spoof location data for Odell. Came in handy when he and Anissa went in to rescue the kid from Jennifer’s class.

I thought the class discussion was interesting. High school kids get a bad rap on television for not practicing critical thinking. It was nice to have a moment where we see the kids discussing and reacting to the world around them.

Given what’s happening with Lynn, I am freaking out about Jennifer and the fact that Odell is sucking her in. He may have forgotten how impertinent teenagers could be, but he seems to have remembered how to manipulate them.

You have to admit, watching Jennifer recharge her powers in the stratosphere was pretty cool.

It’s been a while since we saw Jefferson, Anissa, and Gambi team up. I hadn’t realized how much I missed it.

We’re only 4 episodes in and it feels like things are going to get worse before they come anywhere close to getting better. I am really enjoying this season.

What did you think about the episode?

Miscellaneous

How funny was it to have Jennifer tell her Dad he was overreacting.

Gambi was adorable gushing over Jefferson’s new suit watch.

Painkiller was a lot more interesting, and kind of creepy, once they turned off the arrogance. His abilities do make him an excellent interrogator. Did anyone ever not tell him what he wanted to know?

It was a pleasant surprise to see Principal Lowry fight for his students.

Why are all of Odell’s people obnoxiously arrogant?

The casting of Major Grey hits one of my pet peeves...casting someone far too young to have had the time to advance to the character's job position.

Henderson deserves to get a bump to mayor after all of the smack he's had to take since the ASA took over Freeland.
