6th October 2018 - Scott Wilson & Sonequa Martin-Green Returning

During TWD’s Saturday panel at New York Comic Con, showrunner Angela Kang confirmed the Bernthal news and also revealed that two other former characters will be making an appearance in the first half of season 9. In addition to Bernthal’s Shane showing up, Scott Wilson’s Hershel and Sonequa Martin-Green’s Sasha will also be returning to the AMC drama.

27th August 2018 - Ryan Hurst to Recur as Beta

Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, Bates Motel) has joined the cast of The Walking Dead in the recurring role of the villainous Beta, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. In the comics from Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard on which the show is based, Beta serves as the lieutenant of the Whisperers, a group of survivors who thrive in the apocalypse thanks to the use of skin suits worn to blend in with the dead.

Beta is the strong and silent type, a brute force of nature. What he lacks in expressiveness, he makes up for with intense physicality, as well as intense loyalty — especially to Alpha, the group's leader.

24th August 2018 - Cassady McClincy to Recur

Cassady McClincy (Love, Simon) has joined the zombie drama in the key recurring role of Lydia for the upcoming ninth season. McClincy's Lydia is Alpha's daughter.

20th July 2018 - Rhys Coiro, Zach McGowan, Brett Butler & John Finn Join Cast

For starters, Brett Butler (yes, she of Grace Under Fire fame) will arrive as a "salt-of-the-earth" type named Tammy Rose, and John Finn will portray her husband Earl who also happens to be a blacksmith. They'll both belong to the Hilltop community, and it sounds like Earl will have quite a useful skill to offer indeed.

Meanwhile, actors Rhys Coiro (Entourage) and Zach McGowan (The 100, Black Sails) will appear as Jed and Justin, respectively, two characters that are each uncooperative Saviors (big surprise that there'd be some Saviors with attitude still lingering around, eh?). Contrast them with Dan Fogler's (Balls of Fury) character Luke, a survivor who is apparently keen on making friends for the sake of safety. We can tell Luke's a smart one already.

20th July 2018 - Nadia Hilker Joins Cast

“The 100” actress Nadia Hilker has been cast as Magna for “The Walking Dead” Season 9, TheWrap has learned.

Magna is a character introduced in the comics after the post-All Out War time jump, and is described by AMC as “a tough as nails survivor who has been living on the road.” Magna is first introduced in the comics in issue 127.

20th July 2018 - Samantha Morton Cast as Alpha; Leader of the Whisperers

The Walking Dead has cast its new big bad for season nine: Samantha Morton, who joins the cast as Alpha, leader of the Whisperers, one of the most iconic villains from the comic books on which the AMC drama is based. Executive producer and Walking Dead comic book creator Robert Kirkman announced the news Friday at San Diego Comic-Con.

Alpha is the leader of the Whisperers, a ruthless woman who is bald beneath her zombie mask, charged with presiding over the rest of her people. In the comics, she's close with two specific members of the clan: Beta, her enormous lieutenant, and Lydia, her daughter who becomes a love interest for Carl. Given Chandler Riggs' exit from the series in season eight, any and all future storylines involving Lydia will clearly need to undergo some alterations.

19th July 2018 - Dan Fogler Joins Cast

Dan Fogler has had run-ins with some fairly fanciful creatures, but he’ll now have to face the undead. The actor, who stars in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films with Eddie Redmayne, has landed a role on The Walking Dead season 9, EW has confirmed. Fogler's character is being kept under wraps.

19th July 2018 - Eleanor Matsuura Joins Cast

Matsuura is known for several roles, including Epione in Wonder Woman, Hannah Santo in MI-5, and Baron Chau in Into the Badlands. She is now The Walking Dead's Yumiko, multiple independent sources have confirmed to ComicBook.com.

16th July 2018 - Lauren Ridloff Cast in Multi-Episode Arc

Lauren Ridloff, who is deaf and was nominated for a 2018 Tony in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play category for her role in Children of a Lesser God, will be joining the show for a multi-episode arc as Connie.

Connie has been described as “a seasoned survivor deft at using her senses to read people, situations, and trouble. Her character is deaf and uses American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate.”
