The Middle - Fight or Flight - Review

Hello readers! I hope that everyone is having a wonderful summer full of binge watching and catching up on shows. I apologize for this review being so late, but I did really enjoy the season finale of The Middle, and I hope that you all did, too.

It's the end of an era for The Hecks as Axl as graduated from college. After his party is over, Mike tells Frankie that there will be ground rules since Axl will be living in the house again, and she's worried about having to share a house with him. Things don't start off well as Axl doesn't want to clean up because he's tired and needs a break after 23 years. Brick also can't clean because he has a reading injury (I thought that was hilarious). She's also having to deal with Sue's inability to get rid of stuff. So, overall not a great start to the summer for Frankie.

Sue goes off and buys more junk, but on her way home she ends up in a car accident. Sort of. She freaks out and tells her parents she was in an accident. She even left a note on the car which is funny because there was no damage. After they deal with Sue, Axl runs into the kitchen to announce he's going to Europe. He's very excited, but Mike is not. He tells Axl that he's an adult and has to get a job. Axl argues that Kenny's paying for it, but Mike still thinks it's irresponsible for him to go. Frankie kind of takes Axl's side by telling Mike Axl has his whole life to get a job, and he may not be able to afford Europe again. Unfortunately for Axl, Mike is adamant that he not go.

Axl gets a passport in the mail, and the two get in another fight. It ends with Axl shouting, "I'm going to Europe, and you can't stop me!" He starts to pack, and Mike asks him important questions like how he's going to get home. To be fair, Axl should probably think about those things.

Sue continues to worry about her "wreck" and wonders why no one has called her. She leaves more notes on the car. Brick causes her to worry more by suggesting the guy is getting a lawyer. She left the scene of the crime and admitted guilt. So she comes up with more ridiculous scenarios and goes back and leaves a huge sign over the car window.

Axl decides that he can't go to Europe and starts to post his resume online when Frankie tells him he's going. She helps him pack so he can make it to the airport on time. After Frankie tells Mike why she thinks Axl should go, we find out the real reason he was against this Eurpoe trip: He wanted to spend more time with his son. He wanted to watch some games and spend time together before he moves out and starts his life. This was touching, and a little sad. I've always appreciated that The Middle writes real story lines, and this is definitely something people can relate to.

As the Hecks run out the door, Rob, the owner of the car Sue "scratched", shows up. He's not mad as there is no damage, and he tells Sue she should be proud because of how nice she is. I loved when he said her parents raised her right and then Frankie tells Brick he's an idiot because he wanted to take that stupid lawn chair to the airport. Rob ends up driving the family to the airport because the car wouldn't start. I loved the drive to the airport because it was a typical Heck family drive with everyone complaining.

When they arrive at the airport everyone says their goodbyes. Frankie tells him to email her, and Sue says to take pictures, and they both hug him. Mike tells him to check out the Colosseum, and the two hug. This was the saddest goodbye, but I appreciate that Mike was finally okay with his son leaving and seeing the world. Axl waves goodbye to his family and tells them he'll send a post card from Paris.

Just when everything like it's going to work out for the Hecks, Brick scrapes that lawn chair against Rob's car and takes off the paint. It wouldn't be a Heck family trip without at least one bad thing happening, right?

I really enjoyed this season of The Middle, and I can't wait for the fall to watch season nine. I want to know all about Axl's Europe trip and see what's next for his life after college. I want to see more of Sue's adventures in school and just more of The Hecks in general.

What did you think of "Fight of Flight"? Are you happy Axl went to Europe? What do you want to see in season nine? I really appreciate you all reading and commenting on my reviews this season, and I will be back in the fall for more reviews of The Middle!
