A Handmaid’s Tale “A Woman’s Place” was directed by Floria Sigismondi whose other credits include American Gods and Daredevil. Sigismondi she is best known as a music video director, having worked with the likes of David Bowie, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, and Marilyn Manson. Not surprisingly then, the cinematography is particularly stunning in this episode.

The centerpiece of this episode is a visit from a Mexican trade delegation. We learn a bit more about Gilead – how it was formed and a bit of how it functions.

The Waterford’s host an important dinner party in their home. Fred (Joseph Fiennes) isn’t happy with how the evening goes. There is another, more public dinner, and Fred is much happier with how that goes.

This week the flashbacks center around Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski). It’s clear that religion has played a big role, but she was – and is = a sexual being. We learn that she wrote a book, and she had an important role in forming Gilead. She used to have a temper – and I think she still does...

Nick (Max Minghella) and Offred (Elisabeth Moss) are both cute and sweet together. Offred makes a couple of hysterical remarks about what she’s wearing. Offred is in a precarious position and must decide whether or not to take a risk. One decision leads to a surprising discovery.

Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) actually shows some compassion for Janine (Madeline Brewer).

Once again Elisabeth Moss delivers a powerful performance. This is another terrific – and terrifying – episode. Try to figure out who said what in the list below!
